Photoshop CS is Not Responding

Running:
Photoshop CS
Windows 7
Story:
So I was printing some documents a few days ago, left for a few hours with the document still open. I came home to find my Photoshop was not responding. It has been unresponsive since. It will load the splash-screen then the tools and layering windows will pop up, but then its completely dead.
I was doing some reading into this issue and found someone had had an eerily similar issue about 99% the same, but there was never a solid resolution to the problem.
So far attempted:
- ctl + alt + shift to delete prefs.
- Manually deleting all tool prefs
- Running in comparability mode (which some how makes it worse)
- Making sure program is run as administrator.
- Uninstalling and re-installing
- Uninstalling all components to my printer (since someone else had the same error after printing)
- Uninstalling all recently added fonts
Interesting Tidbits
- Photoshop will not uninstall and reinstall by itself now without crashing the installer. The whole creative suite needs to be uninstalled to remove Photoshop. (not that this worked any)
- All other CS programs are working fine, Image Ready Included.
- When in Image ready, if you click the link to Photoshop it will pop up with an error saying "unable to find helper program on your computer"
Hopefully that's enough info to help pinpoint the problem. In tearing my hair out trying to find the solution and Adobe wouldn't help me even if I paid them to. D: CS is no longer supported, and I really don't feel the need to upgrade from something that works (or worked) perfectly fine for my needs. Thanks to anyone who read my issue, whether you know of a solution or not I am grateful for your time.
Next Solutions if none found:
- Safemode restore to two weeks ago.
- Total system restore.

Don't give up completely on that yet...  A reboot after having made a different printer the default might be in order, then a retest of Photoshop.

You really need to install the CS6 updates.  You haven't installed any of the updates.
And you need to update your Intel video card driver.

  • My Photoshop CS6 is not responding.

My Photoshop CS6 is not responding when opening. What should I do. thanks.

Also look at this one. Unable to start Photoshop CS6 - could not open a scratch file because the file is locked (Windows)
It's a good lesson as to why things go wrong and whether it is actually a problem with Photoshop.
    And this: http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/2012/07/photoshop-basic-troubleshooting-steps-to-fix-mos t-issues.html
Maybe I can't give you the right answer at this moment, but I can hopefully give you a ride to where you can get to it.

We really cannot know. So far you haven't told us anything about your system nor is there any feasible way to diagnose what this "missing file" could be, no matter what. That is, short of elaborate tracking and observation using specialised system diagnosis tools. The welcome screens can be brough back via the Help menu, but well, this might bring back the problems as well. Anyway, this is most likely nothing that a forum can help you with. If you know a computer geek, give him a call. Otherwise I don't see what we could do for you.

  • Photoshop CC (2014) "not responding" at startup

    Hi,
I've just installed Photoshop CC (2014) on my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013), running Mac OS X 10.10.2. On startup I get the "spinning wheel of death" and my CPU run up to 100%. In the "Force Quit Applications" window I get "Photoshop not responding". After about 5 min photoshop sems to work but it's very slow. I've used Photoshop CC (not the 2014 version) without problems until this morning.
Any ideas? I've already tried to disabled the GPU without any luck.
    Thanks,
    Calle

Same problem with Prmeiere, no problems with InDesign..

  • Photoshop CS6 is not responding when leaving PS and coming back again

A weired problem: My new installation of Photoshop CS6 (OS X Mavericks on a new MBP) is not responding when leaving PS and coming back again.
Example: i open a new file in PS - then i click on the desktop - when i go back to PS again, it is not responding to any click on any window (except for the menu bar).
I can solve the problem when i try going back several times or when i go back to PS via the icon in the dock.
But it is still very annoying in a quick workflow.
I would appreciate any idea what i can check more, cause i tried everything and i can’t find this issue on the web…
    Thanks…

Problem solved… The troublemaker was the Trackball Works Driver for Kensington trackballs / Expert Mouses…
I’m now using a generic driver for USB devices and everything is fine.

  • My Photoshop CS3 is 'Not responding'

    Hi all.
I havent been using my photoshop (CS3) for the past month because everytime I try to access it, it starts up but doesn''t show the interface (only the window). I would wait for the interface to display but it never. When I click on the window, it ends up 'not responding', then I'd have to close it. I've also tried re-installing it but that doesn't help. My RAM is 2G, 1.6GHz AMD processor. I've used it before on the same system.
    Please help

    Try a Preferences Reset first:
Press and hold Cmd - Shift - Opt immediately upon cold-starting Photoshop.  If you get the keys down quickly enough - and you have to be VERY quick - it will prompt you to confirm deletion of your established preferences, which will lead to them all being set to defaults.

  • Photoshop CS3 install - not responding at startup

    Guys,
Just got a new machine at work and I'm trying to reinstall Photoshop CS3 from disc.  Everything looks like it installs smoothly, but when I try to launch PS, it just hangs with a grey background and finallly says "not responding".  I've tried to hold down ctrl-alt-shift to get the preferences menu, but nothing ever pops up.  I also looked in AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Adobe Photoshop CS3 Settings   but there are no files located in this dir.
I am admin on my machine so everything should've installed correctly.  It ran perfectly on my old machine which I installed from the same disc as I'm using now.
    Any ideas?
    TIA!

    Two additional ideas:
    1.  Visit the web site of the maker of the video card in the system and get their latest display driver.  EXCEPTION:  If it's an ATI GPU, get their Catalyst 11.7 release, not 12.1, which has been shown to be buggy with Photoshop CS5+.
    2.  Force a Photoshop preferences reset by pressing and holding Control - Shift - Alt immediately after cold-starting Photoshop.  If you're fast enough, and you have to get them down very quickly, it will prompt you to confirm deletion of the current preferences set, which will lead to a full return to defaults.
If you don't see an immediate "Delete preferences, are you sure?" type dialog, close it all and try again.  You have to be really quick.

  • Photoshop Elements 9 not responding

I am using Photoshop Elements 9, but I am beginning to get the error message that it is not responding.  What could be the problem and how to fix it?

It could be any number of things -- but you haven't given us enough information to be able to help you.
Are you running the 64-bit version of Windows 7? You may want to check out the 64-bit version of Windows 10. It runs like the wind on that OS!
New computers are usually full of outdated drivers, temp files and fragmentation.
Have you manually gone to Windows Update and downloaded all of the latest updates? Do you have the latest version of Quicktime, per the program's requirements?
When did you last clean and defragment your system? In my books, I recommend Advanced System Care from iobit. It cleans your temp files, tunes your registry and defragments with a single button. And it's free!
    http://www.iobit.com/advancedsystemcareper.html
When does it lock up? When you first starting the program or when you're in the midst of editing? What is the source of the video you're editing when it locks?

I can use my photoshop few hours ago, but once I close it, it's not responding.
I tried restart my computer, as well delete the photoshop preferences, it's still not helping. Anyone can help? As Im rushing on a design ~~~

Could be normal compatibility issues. You know, it's old software running on Windows 7. Anyway, nobody can tell you anything based on such sparse info. Resetting the prefs could simply indicate that you need to fix your user privileges/ file permissions, but then again this could be a virus scanner blocking things as well..

  • Photoshop CS3 Extended Not Responding after Installation

A couple of days ago, I purchased a copy of CS3 Extended and was ecstatic. I got home and installed it on my computer, only to find that when I opened the program, it would just not respond, so I was left with a white window. I was afraid it might be the software, but my dad tried it on his computer, and it worked just fine. I'm really not sure what setting or anything might be causing this issue. I've read the troubleshooting from cs3, but it did not appear to help at all. Any help would be appreciated. I'm also willing to post computer stats or whatever may be needed in determining the problem.

Make sure you download the dot release (10.0.1).
And all white display sounds like 2 bugs we know of: video card drivers (common), and a flaw in some Pentium4 processors with Hyperthreading (an updated BIOS can patch around it).

  • Photoshop CS5 does not respond to Lightroom

Hi. I have just recently upgraded both Photoshop CS4 to CS5 and Lightroom 2.7 to 3.0. They're great upgrades and am enjoying the new features. However, there is one hangup that I am running into. When in Lightroom, I do a right click over an image to Edit the Image in Photoshop CS5. Most of the time the image will then open in Photoshop and I can then proceed to do my edits. But, after a short while (after a couple hours), this procedure stops working. When I click in Lightroom to Edit in Photoshop CS5, Photoshop will begin to load up, but then the image to edit never appears. I then quit Photoshop and reload it, but then it still doesn't respond to Lightroom. After quitting both programs and retrying the whole process, Photoshop still won't respond.
The only way to fix this I've found is to restart or log off the comp (I'm on a mac with OSX 10.6). Some on here have said to delete the preference files. I've done this, but still no luck. I've deleted Photoshop CS5 and reinstalled it, and still the problems persists. I've updated my CS5 to version 12.0.1, and still the same problem. Has anyone else out there experienced this problem?
    Thanks

Worst case: trashing prefs by keeping ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop (and then using the dialog) should allow you to open it.

  • Photoshop CS3 doe not respond.

    Hi,
I am using Mac OS X 10.5.8. Powerbook G4.  I can open PS CS3 but once I click to open a file, it hangs and the program does not respond.  I tried changing the performance memory usage to 50% but that did not help.  I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the program too.  I'm still having a problem.  Any suggestions?

How did I get to the Crtl + Alt + Shft Meathod?
Good question..... I right clicked the .exe icon and selected
