Photoshop CS lighting effects rendering malfunction

You know I am really angry with Adobe regarding this issue. I have spent hours on the phone with them and they have no clue what they are doing it would seem. I have lost a client job because of this.
If you have this issue please let me know:
Try to render lighting effects in your image and you cannot manipulate your lights as in scaling and moving them. You will see the light but cannot do a damn thing with it.
I spent 2 hours online with Adobe tech support which involved them taking remote control of my machine. New account was made in Windows and Photoshop launched under that account which solved it temporarily. Then it was decided to throw out all my ADOBE preferences under may account which worked until today when I started working again only to find out the problem is back.
I am just completely dissapointed now with Adobe in general. If they cant fix their own software what is a user to do.
Can anyone help with this issue from experience? Please do not guess - I am need an actual permanent solution.
Thanks

  • Photoshop cc lighting effects do not seem to work

I am trying to put spotlight on area in photo but from render - lighting effects all that happens is my workspace changes on the right to "lighting effects" but nothing works and I have to close this side and shut down photoshop just to go back to a normal "essential" workspace. == what is the problem?

I'm having the same issue as well. Just started using CC tonight on both my home and work Macs. My home computer is a late 2006 MacPro, 6GB RAM, 2.66ghz and the work computer is 2013 MacPro with way more guts in it. Photoshop at home runs terribly slow all together but I did manage to see some slight improvement when I switched off "Use Graphics Processor" in the Preferences panel (Prefs > Performance) but this also turns off the Lighting effects filter. I remote logged in to my work Mac and using the same file (saved in the cloud), applied the lighting filter and it worked perfectly. All that to say, I'm pretty certain is a graphics processor/memory issue more than it being a CC issue. At home, the filter attempts to work, stops, and the only thing left is the properties panel like the effect is active.
Looks like I need some upgrades.
    Hope this helps!

  • PhotoShop CS6 - Lighting Effects Not showing

I know the question sounds like the ones you get all the time but in PhotoShop cs6 I can access the filter>render>lighting effects but when I click the lighting effect tab nothing shows and when I watch a tutorial and people open filter>render>lighting effects a adjustable thing appears on the layer which they can edit but I can not do this. Any help?

I had exactly the same problem and here is the answer: update the driver for your video card. And when you update, go to the vendor website! (i.e. the vendor of the particular video card you have). If you don't know what kind of video card you have, use the commands: Control Panel/System/Device Manager, then double-click on "Display Adapter". It will display a tab called "Driver", which will give you the date of your current driver. If it is anything older than maybe a year, go to the vendor site and download the appropriate driver. My download was about 260MB in size. It also seemed to improve my screen resolution a little at the same time.
But there is more! Photoshop CC uses two things called OpenGl and OpenCL. I have no idea what they are, BUT, I think both of them must be selected in order for Lighting Effects to work on Photoshop CC. And where do you select these things? Edit/Preferences/Performance
And finally, check the box "Use Graphics Processor", then click on "Advanced Settings". Under Advanced Settings you will see
And you guessed it! Click on the box "Use OpenCL". I have no idea if the 30 bit display box should be checked - I was trying everything at one point.
Anyway, it seems like Adobe has adopted new technology somewhere along the way, such technology not being included in video drivers just a few years old. Personally, I think Adobe should have made more of an effort to highlight this problem and provide an easier-to-figure-out solution.
    Hope this helps!

  • Lighting Effects renders black, or very dark.

    Hi,
I have been faced with an almost identical problem listed here - http://forums.adobe.com/message/5486667#5486667
However, the solution listed has not helped me.
The only thing that changes it from complete blackness is the "Ambience" value.
I've done all software and hardware updates, reinstalled the graphics card driver, and restarted a multitude of times.
    I am using:
    Dell Optiplex 390
    Intel(R) HD Graphics 2000
    Windows 7 64 bit
    Photoshop CC
    No Color Management
No plug-ins, or anything other than default PS settings
If it helps, I used Lighting Effects on Photoshop CS3 and CS6 for almost two years on this machine with no problem. This was the first time I had tried to use it since I upgraded to CC. I uninstalled all other versions of PS when I upgraded, so I have not tried to replicate the problem in older versions.
I have attached screenshots for reference.

Check to see if there are any updated drivers for your card.  http://support.amd.com/en-us/download
The standard advice is to get the latest driver from the Graphics card maker rather than Microsoft or your PC maker.

  • Lighting Effects Renders All Black

I ran CleanMyMac 2 and it must have tossed out something -- because now Filter > Render > Lighting Effects = ALL BLACK. And the adjustment and hotspot circles no longer appear. See here:

    Worked fine yesterday. Thanks.

For anyone else with this problem, resetting the Preferences worked for me:
    Reset preferences.
Resetting preferences returns OpenGL settings to their default status. Reset Photoshop preferences by pressing and holding Shift+Ctrl+Alt (Windows) or Shift+Option+Command (Mac OS) immediately after you start Photoshop.
Click Yes when asked if you want to delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings File.
Retry the function that caused the problem.
If that doesn't work, try the other troubleshooting tips on this page:

  • Photoshop CS6 lighting effects filter--where are the handles?

I have read all the previous posts about this, and taken all steps. Running WIn7, 64 bit, my video card is 512Mb, drivers are up to date, PS is up to date, I restarted and stil no handles appear in the Lighting Effects filter.

Does "all steps" include ensuring 'View > Show > 3D Lights' is enabled and 'View > Extras' is enabled when the Lighting Effects filter is active?

  • Photoshop CS5 Lighting Effects

I accidentally deleted the “Five Lights Up” Style. How can I restore it to the Style list in the program? “Five Lights Up” is still included in the Photoshop/Plug-ins/Filters/Lighting Style folder. I have a backup of the C drive before deleting. Is there a file that can be replaced from the backup?

I have sorted it out thanks to your questions:
I have both Photoshop installed, 32 bit and 64 bit
I always use the 32 bit version and  that where the Style got deleted from the list in the program
when checking in the plug-ins/Lighting Style folder I was checking in the 64 bit files and of course the Style was included.
now checking in the the plug-ins/Lighting Style folder in the 32 bit files, sure enough the Style is missing. I have replaced it and all is fine. Thank you very much
BTW that Delete button on the program is dangerous...

  • Lighting Effects filter in PS (CS6; 64-bit) crashes program

This is a Win7 64-bit OS, new CS6 installation with all updates applied/installed.
Use of Lighting Effects rendering filter in PhotoShop (CS6, both 64- and 32-bit versions) causes PS to crash.

I did make some suggestions, which you appear to have only dabbled with...  Did you try Basic mode?  Did you try checking/unchecking all the various settings in all the combinations?  Be exhaustive.  You feel your system is advanced, I get that, but you're looking to isolate a problem here.
I'm not as familiar with nVidia as I am with ATI, but have you investigated the various settings their driver UI provides?
I'm not saying there's a definite fix in there, but In doing these things you might:
Discover a combination of settings as a workaround that makes it work acceptably for you.
Be able to tell Adobe or nVidia exactly what to look for if they want to investigate it further.
By the way, have you contacted nVidia and let them know Photoshop is crashing when it tries to use their GPU for Lighting Effects?
Lastly, some folks have found that fully uninstalling the display driver, cleaning up any remnants of it and prior display drivers that may still be laying around, and installing the latest driver sometimes helps.  Display driver writers are apparently not all that good at writing installers.
I never had this issue with CS4... Only CS6
People sometimes like to say that kind of thing, but (and I'm sorry to be blunt):  So what?
This is an entirely new program with new, different, and greater demands of your computer system.  It's using more and different features of your GPU than any prior version.
I can only assure you that it does work okay for some others.  I have had no problems with Lighting Effects myself.  But you should know that since Photoshop CS6 first came out I *HAVE* had crashes while trying to do 3D modeling work.  At least some of those were caused by the (then current) ATI display drivers.  I (and others) contacted ATI and described the problems, and their subsequent driver versions have gotten more stable.  Their current version seems to work rather well with Photoshop CS6.  My point is that things can get better.  Hang in there.

  • Why "Lighting Effects.plugin" in FIlter folder does not appear in the Rendering menu?

Photoshop CS5 - I need to work with the "Lighting Effects.plugin".
The plug-in is correctly installed into Adobe Photoshop CS5.1>Plug-ins>Filters but it NOT APPEAR rolling down the RENDERING menu!!
How can I make it visible?
    Thank you

That particular filter was not updated/upgraded to 64 bits, therefore you need to launch Photoshop as a 32-bit application.

In 64-bit versions of Mac OS 10.5 and later, some older, optional plug-ins are available only if Photoshop is running in 32-bit mode:
In the Finder, choose Go > Applications.
Expand the Photoshop folder. Then right-click the Photoshop application icon, and choose Get Info.
In the General section of the Info window, select Open In 32-bit Mode.
Close the Info window, and restart Photoshop.

  • Photoshop lighting effects puts horizontal line through image

Apply filter > Lighting effects to an image (300 ppi RGB) and when photoshop renders the lighting, there is a horizontal line through the image. It is not a screen or video issue, it is in the image and has to be retouched out like corrupt image.
not a transparency issue, tried different file formats, flattened image first, etc.
    WHY?
Had this happen before, but now in Cloud V6 is really aggrevating. People have been posting about this for at least 3 versions with no answers.

Moved from the Creative Cloud to the Photoshop forum. They will be able to help you here.

  • Lighting effect not working for photoshop CC 2014

hello there i can not seem to get the lighting effects working in Photoshop cc 2014 i updated it and also made sure my graphic driver was updated and also made sure that it was strong enough to run it and it is so now i'm just confused why its not working.
not sure what to do from here need to get some textures done and this does not help and couldn't find anwsers on the adobe contact us tab so came here.

I could repro this. Fix it by restarting Photoshop.
What happens is that when you toggled your graphics acceleration on without restarting Photoshop, it made Photoshop go coo-coo for Cocoa Puffs. (It happens.) Hopefully, someone from Adobe's staff will see this.

  • I have an issue using Lighting Effects in Adobe Photoshop CC 2014

    Hello everyone,
I am having issues using Lighting Effects in Adobe Photoshop CC 2014. I created a duplicate layer that I want to do the effects on, converted it to a smart object and on that same layer went to Filter>Render>Lighting Effects  to get to the Lighting Effects screen. When adjusting the parameters (drag/reshape the lights) for either the spotlight or point light, I don't see any changes. Can someone tell me what could be the issue or if I'm doing the steps wrong to apply the effects?
    Here are my specs:
    Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.140303-2144)
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600S CPU @ 2.80GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.8GHz
    Memory: 8192MB RAM
    Available OS Memory: 8174MB RAM
Card name: AMD Radeon HD 6570
    Manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc.
    Display Memory: 743 MB
    Dedicated Memory: 1008 MB
    Shared Memory: 3831 MB

I am experiencing flickering issues as well. However my issues are with the Fast Color Corrector and the Three Way Color Corrector. It seems as if the color correction tools are causing intermittent flickering on some people's systems.
Additionally when I converted some old PPCC 7.2.2 projects which had the Three Way Color Corrector applied, some clips in sequences would come up as a green screen in the program monitor. If I turned the TWCC off the footage would display correctly in the program window. If I turn the TWCC back on it would display the green screen again.
I haven't found a solution to the flickering but to solve the green screen issue I have to remove the effect, then re apply it. I guess for whatever reason, the 2014 version of PP has issues with 7.2.2 projects where the TWCC was applied.
I'm hoping Adobe will address this soon with an update for the various bugs that have been reported.

I don't know why there has been doubt since post #12 where I explained that Ps must be running in 64-bit mode when more than 2100 MB RAM is reported in Preferences.
Anyway, here's a screenshot of Activity Monitor showing CS6 in 64-bit mode and CS5.1 in 32-bit mode.

So, you're totally new to computers?
Go to the Help menu in Photoshop and select the System Info menu item.  Copy all that information and paste all of it here MINUS your serial number.
Yes, Photoshop can delegate a lot of the computing tasks to the GPU on your graphics card.  You may have to disable that feature in Photoshop Preferences > Performance.
