Photoshop CS not saving files correctly.

I have just recently tried to upload jpeg files converted from PSD and TIFF files in Pshop CS and received messages that the files were not jpeg files even though they had .jpeg at the end. I think this may have started about the time that I upgraded to 10.4.5 because several friends mentioned that they could not open some jpegs in their mail. At the time, I just figured it was a problem with their mail - but this upload experience seems to indicate otherwise.
I did a search and did not see anything quite like this posted yet. Just wondered if anyone else is getting complaints that their jpegs can't be opened or if someone is aware of this problem.

In the pulldown menu for format, it shows me JPEG, but it automatically uses the three letter extension on the file name when this is selected.
Let me know if that does the trick.

I'm not sure that Lion AutoSave feature apply to network servers.
I'm just sure that the Versions feature doesn't.

  • Photoshop edits not saved in iPhoto

I've set up Photoshop CS4 as my external editor in iPhoto, and this has been working well for quite a while. I usually edit in Photoshop and save over the original (both jpeg files) in iPhoto. However, today I noticed that my edited work was not showing up in the gallery view (i.e. even after saving over, the original version of the photo was shown in my gallery). On close-up I can view the edited photo, but once I edit another photo the previous photo I edited reverts to its original form. I've tried repairing the library and permissions by pressing option + command on startup, but the problem still remains. None of my edited work is saved once I close and reopen iPhoto. Please help! :-(

You are saving as a jpg (if the original file is a jpg), right? Check this workflow and see if you're doing anything significantly different than what's described.  Screenshots are from Photoshop CS3 but should be similar to later versions.
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
    Screenshots are from PSE 10
Note 1:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.
Note 2:  editing a RAW file with either PSE or PS creates a new file which must be saved outside of iPhoto, i.e. the Desktop, and imported as a new photo into the iPhoto Library.

  • Photoshop CS6 stopped saving file extensions

I am running PhotoShop CS6 on Mac Yosemite 10.10.2.  Photoshop suddenly stopped saving file extensions.  I can open the files saved on my computer, but others cannot because the file extension is missing.  Under preferences > file handling > append file extension, "always" is selected.  It doesn't matter which file format PSD, JPEG, PNG, etc., the file extension is not saved.  I have the capability to view the file, but if I send it to someone else, or if I save it to dropbox and download it back to my computer, the image cannot be viewed.

Try resetting the Photoshop preference file: Hold Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Opt+Shift as you initiate Photoshop's startup. Select "yes" when asked if you would like to continue with reset.

  • How do I prevent Lightroom from creating duplicates if the edit in photoshop is not saved?

    Hello!
How do I prevent Lightroom from creating duplicates if the edit in photoshop is not saved?
So... Quite often I choose to 'Edit in photoshop' from Lightroom but then end up not saving the result. (for example, because I just wanted to experiment with the photo, or I'm not satisfied with the results)
However, Lightroom always creates a copy of the original photo, which stays in the catalog even if the photoshop changes aren't saved.
Is there a way to stop this, and only add a photo if it has been edited in PS?
    Using LR5 with PS CS6 on a Mac 10.9
    THANK YOU!

Select 'Open the Image in PS as a Smart Object'. The image will be rendered by ACR in memory without being written to disc until you save it from within PS.

  • Photoshop does not close files and the program does not quit.

I have been on the phone with tech support for over an hour. Photoshop does not close files and the program does not quit. I am on a Mac and I am using Photoshop CC 2014.

Have you tried uninstalling Photoshop CC and re-installing? Another thing to try is to remove all Photoshop CC plist files. There is also the Cleaner tool:
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6

  • Old CS2 Photoshop & Bridge not recognising files

My old CS2 version of Bridge and Photoshop will not recognise files from the new(ish) camera I just bought, a Canon EOS5D Mk II.
It doesn't show a preview image in Bridge and when you click to open it, it just says "Could not complete the request because it is not the right kind of document".
I can get the Canon software to convert a RAW to TIFF and open it but I want to use the batch processing and selection facilitites of Bridge.
Any ideas how I can get round this problem?
    Many thanks.

This is a very old discussion but in short, each new camera has its own unique Raw code. Adobe offers free upgrades for ACR (Adobe Camera Raw needed to convert the Raw data to an actual image) several times a year but only for their latest version of Photoshop (in this case PS6 and PSCC)
Here is a list of camera's with compatible versions of ACR:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
And the versions of PS with the ACR versions so you can see the minimum required version you need to match your new camera:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
For your 5D II this means at least ACR version 5.2 that comes with CS4
You can either use the free Adobe DNG converter to first convert your files to DNG and then handle them in CS2 but you can also try to upgrade and match the technology of the camera with your software.
Besides that, shooting Raw and batch process to tiff without first changes the settings of the Raw file to your custom wishes is sheer pointless. You don't profit from Raw unless you make the effort to first develop the files in ACR  to your custom wishes (or use Canon Software that came with your camera which to my opinion is very clumsy and very very slow / unproductive) and then start batch process for further development in PS or whatever.

  • Photoshop CS6 not saving

I am using Windows 7 with an i7 core and 18gb of RAM. I recently purchased a CC subscription.
In Photoshop CS6 I have noticed that at times after having saved a .psd file, after I come back to it later the changes are gone. At first I thought perhaps I fogot to save, but last night I saved several photos I had been restoring and was careful I did save them. This morning once again the changes on one of the photos were not saved, they had reverted to the original file before the restoration was done.
Has anyone else noticed this problem? What could be causing it?

Well, they never save properly on the operating system level or something on your system is restoring older versions of files. There's literally a gigazillion potential causes like PS's own recovery mode restoring files, because the app crashes on exit, Windows' system restore, backup tools, virus scanners interferring in the safe process, permissions issues preventing file writes or even genuine hardware issues with your harddrive and its controller. Impossible to know. Definitely not a general PS fault. If at all, I might imagine something being awry with history states, but that would still be fixable by simply picking the correct state on the saved file...

  • Photoshop changes not saving in Aperture

    Greetings,
I'm having a frequent but inconsistent problem that when I open images in Photoshop. After saving the changes and closing the PS file, the copy is still there in Aperture but it remains a copy of the original, it does not record any changes made in PS. When I quit out of Aperture and restart, I get the stacked images thumbnail but with only one image in it, and only marked as one image in the corner (whereas it said two and there were two images in it before quitting Aperture).
    any ideas?

Hmm! hadn't done that yet (this happens both ins PS CS3 & CS4 by the way, saved as either 8 or 16 bit TIFFs) and maybe this is a piece of the puzzle--went to show package contents and found the original files, including all the copies, which were each given individual folders with successive numbers. For example, the original files is "Bottega_432" and can be found in its folder names as such. Each PS saved version was given its own folder with the same name but numbered successively in brackets after the folder name. Should these be going into the same folder and are not for some reason? The images themselves seem to be fine. I'm guessing it has something to do with Aperture not seeing the new folder it created for the new version? directories? this is beyond me.

When machine is first started the program works, for about 10 mins, then
I can not open files, create new ones. When it does work it can not perform functions like transform etc.
I tried disabling third party plug ins

    Nothing seems to work.

There is a script running which Noscript lets me forbid, called akamaihd.net. It runs a script which is the same as in html when you highlight a word then attach a url to it.
I don't know why I am seeing it but not others. FF and Chrome seem susceptible to it. It's not malware as usually thought of because no virus/malware program finds it here.
Unfortunately, I have to forbid this script for every site I visit.
In the other thread where your browser displayed an 'i.trkjmp.com' link which isn't really in the web page, I gave you a Google link for info about the problem. You said that it must be something else. Well, for months now, Chrome and Firefox users have been troubled by extensions which cause the 'i.trkjmp.com' problem. You might want to revisit the link I gave you.

  • Photoshop does not return files to Lightroom

Hi, using Lightroom CC 5.3 and Photoshop CC. Export files for editing in Photoshop, edit then press Ctrl S and files do not return to Lightroom but are written to the catalogue. Occasionally things work OK, but mostly the above happens. I reinstalled both programmes and have moved older catalogues,(the legacy of updates) to a separate file so only one catalogue is involved. My preference settings are all as recommended by Kelby or a Evening. Any ideas?

Hi, I am fully up to date with CC. I have re-installed both Ps and Lr .
I find that pegs behave as they should but raw files (I use DNG) don't . But they do using Elements.
Had nearly two hours with agent in India on 14th who took over the computer and tried stuff but concluded that all would be well if I  stopped converting to DNG. As this is recommended practice and DNG is Adobe's product anyway this kept me unimpressed. He said my concern would by "escalated" up the  chain and somebody ( better qualified?) would call me back. Still waiting a week later and unimpressed.
I had my own copy of Lightroom 5.3 and Elements, so while I like Photoshop I plan to  dump the CC contract within the 30 days until it can be made to work for me. Good luck.

  • Photoshop elements not saving edits/captions

I am perplexed how to get my photoshop elements 4 to save my photo edits and captions. It has worked well for many years but something happened a couple of months ago and now it is not saving either my photo editing or captions in organizer...HELP!

DJ, My computer is windows 8, below are the system requirements for PSE12 - looks like it will run in 64-bit. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
No, you have seriously misunderstood what I said. PSE will not run as a 64 bit application under Windows. Even though you have a 64 bit version of Windows, PSE will NOT run as a 64 bit application under Windows. It will run as a 32 bit application under Windows 64bit, giving it a maximum of approx 3 GB of memory to work with. I don't know if that will make your problems go away or not. Please download the 30-day free trial of PSE 12 and see if your problems go away or not before you make a purchase.
    From the system requirements
all other applications run native on 32-bit operating systems and in 32-bit compatibility mode on 64-bit operating systems
