Photoshop CS quitting after 10.4.6 upgrade

Since upgrading to 10.4.6 Photoshop CS quits every time I try to open it. It goes through the usual process of installing drivers/plug-ins etc and then quits when it gets to the 'Building TWAIN menu lists' stage. I have reinstalled the 10.4.6 upgrade using the Combo version on the Apple website and have repaired disk permissions.
Unlike other people who have reported problems with CS2 after 10.4.6 I am not on a network but am working locally with approx 20GB free space on my HD.
Have just removed and reinstalled Photoshop (and then repaired permissions again) and the problem is still happening.
Any ideas?

Summary:
Group Logic has determined the cause of the Photoshop crash that occurs when saving file to an AFP server from a Mac OS X 10.4.6 client. Photoshop appears to be using an older Carbon call that creates and retrieves Mac OS 9 comments instead of the Mac OS X comments stored in the .DS_Store file. Mac OS X 10.4.6 changes how those older comments are handled which triggers a crash in Photoshop.
Details:
The following is a summary of the actions which cause Photoshop to crash:
Copy a Photoshop file with no comments to the server
Open it in Photoshop
Save it in Photoshop
Photoshop will request the OS 9 comments from the server
Server returns “no comments” because they don’t exist
Photoshop writes comments to the server, usually over 128 or 200 characters (depends on what file format is used)
Resave the file in Photoshop
Photoshop will request the OS 9 comments from the server
Mac OS X Server returns “no comments” whereas ExtremeZ-IP, SFM, Helios and Mac OS 9 return the actual comments
Save completes to the Mac OS X Server or crashes on all other AFP Servers.
The AFP 3.1 specification supports comments of up to 199 characters. In addition we found that AFP 2.2 in Mac OS 9 personal file sharing allows comments of up to 199 characters. However servers running Mac OS X 10.3 and 10.4 do not permit comments over 128 characters (this may be true in earlier versions of Mac OS X, but we did not test them).
These are the facts we were able to determine via packet traces and standard testing:
1. If a client wants tries to add an OS 9 comment that is greater than 128 characters to a file on a Mac OS X 10.4 AFP server, the server will return success but not modify the existing comment. The server simply ignores the request.
2. Photoshop will not crash if an AFP server returns OS 9 comments that are less than 128 characters
From this evidence we have come to the conclusion that Photoshop incorrectly assumes that OS 9 comments cannot be larger than 128 characters. Since the 10.4.6 upgrade it appears that the OS X client will correctly return to Photoshop the entire 199 characters of the Mac OS 9 comment. Since ExtremeZ-IP and most other AFP servers conform to the AFP spec they do send the full 199 characters allowed. Upon receiving the comment from the AFP server, the Mac OS X 10.4.6 AFP client will pass the comment to the Carbon File Manager, and it in turn to Photoshop which will then crash.
This is not seen when saving to the XServe, because it never creates comments if they exceed 128 characters. Therefore the change to the AFP client in Mac OS X 10.4.6 would not affect Photoshop when saving to an Xserve.
Fix:
Although ExtremeZ-IP is following the AFP 3 specification, Group Logic will release an ExtremeZ-IP hotfix next week that will workaround the issue. In order to have the least impact on any other applications, we will add an optional setting called PhotoshopCompatibleComments. When that setting is enabled, ExtremeZ-IP will truncate all Mac OS 9 comments to 128 characters. That will prevent the bug in Photoshop from being triggered until Apple or Adobe fix the issue.

  • Photoshop CC Quits After Running Camera Raw Filter

During the past week, Photoshop keeps quitting after I have used the Camera RAW Filter and then pressed OK.
    Anyone else experienced this.

I have not, but I guess the generic advice may apply …
    Boilerplate-text:
Does turning off »Use Graphics Processor« in the Performance Preferences and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?
Are Photoshop and OS fully updated and have you performed the usual trouble-shooting routines (trashing prefs by pressing command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift while starting Photoshop until the appropriate dialog appears after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance, cleaning caches, font validation, etc.)

  • Photoshop CC quits after starting, when used as a trial - works fine

    Hello,
I've purchased Photoshop and Lightroom bundle (combined deal for 12.99 Eur/Month), the problem is, whenever I try to run photoshop - it immediately quits after starting. Tried logging in and out of Creative Cloud with no luck. Reinstalling photoshop didn't help either. However, when I switched to another account and started photoshop as a trial it works fine (albeit for 30 days as of now). Lightroom (full version) and Bridge also works fine. Seems like the problem lies in Creative Cloud account and not in software. Anybody has any thoughts?

Windows 8.1 has given a few people problems regards video card drivers, but I wouldn't think that would cause a crash on launch.
So you have the Desktop Application Manager installed, and from there you installed Photoshop CC as a trial.  You used it in trial mode for a period of time, but have now paid for a sunscription?
How long did you go with the trial period before purchasing the subscription?
    Did the trial period expire?
Has Photoshop CC ever worked since you took out the subscription?
Have you done anything else like add fonts, or third party plugins, or a graphics tablet?
Just to make sure, check you definitely have the most up to date video card driver.  You might be able to use the auto checker (Iit needs Java installed)
    http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
I don't think it will help, but again to be sure, reset Preferences (hold down **** Ctrl Alt while starting Photoshop)
After the above makes no difference, I guess you need to reinstall.
    Unistall Photoshop from Control Panel.
Download and run the Cleaner tool
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html
    Restart your computer
Right click and run the Desktop Application manager as Administrator. (If it thinks Photoshop is still installed, Quit and sign back inagain.
    Install Photoshop.
If you have problems after that, come back.
    Good luck

  • Leopard and CS2 Photoshop force quits after clean install

I just bought a mac book pro with Leopard 10.5.6. I did a clean install of my CS2 and all apps work but Photoshop. When I launch the program, it gets to the end and force quits. Any recommendations?
I know I need to upgrade to CS 4 and have no problem with that, but don't want to spend the money  yet unless necessary. Can I run Photoshop CS2 on the intel based mac book pro?
    Thanks!

What do you mean by "force quits"?  Force quit is when you force an application to quit.  Programs don't "force quit" on their own.  Do you mean the program crashes?  Any error message(s)?

  • Photoshop 7 quits after initializing

    Error message is:
An unexpected and unrecoverable problem has occurred because of a program error. Photoshop will now exit.
Running OS 10.5.8 on a PowerPC G5 iMac
    Help please!

Photoshop 7 is absolutely not compatible with Leopard (10.5.x), Snow Leopard or Lion.
You can revert to running your G5 with Tiger (10.4.11) or you can buy CS5.  Photoshop 7 is out of the upgrade loop.

  • Photoshop CC quits after launching (Mac)

    Hello!
I have the same problems that others have reported, but I have not seen a definite fix posted. Problem: Just installed Photoshop CC on a Mac running OS X Mavericks 10.9.3 -- when the app is launched, the splash screen is displayed, then Photoshop opens for about a second and promptly closes. If I click on a menu open within that 1-second window, the app will remain open (though you really can't do anything with it, since as soon as you close the menu, the app closes). Note that I also have Photoshop CS6 on this machine, and there are no issues with it.
I have a tried a few of the recommended fixes, such as signing-out, then signing back in, as well as uninstalling all components of CC, using the "cleaner" tool, and reinstalling. Still no dice. As I have both a Mac and a PC, I tried installing CC on the Windows machine and there is no problem with that.
So, I am wondering what my next step should be? Any help appreciated!

    Hi Videojanitor ,
Please rename SLCache to SLCache_old from these location to fix the issue.
    Mac:
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe
    Once done launch Photoshop.
Let me know how it goes.

  • Photoshop quitting after saving.

I am having an issue with photoshop CS2 quitting whenever I save a document. It just started yesterday and the only thing I can think of doing differently was making a couple of software updates.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Couple of bits from Macintouch. May not be your problem or your fix but...
The full 10.4.6 topic is rather long to link and read through, so:
    Bryan Schappel
This is a warning and a fix regarding the recent 10.4.6 update.
My company uses the Mac almost exclusively. We use Adobe CS2 and Office 2004. Against my better judgement I installed the 10.4.6 update (via the Combo Updater) in order to fix the problems with Office. This was a success. They Office users no longer have their issues.
However, my Photoshop users were ready to riot. We use Windows 2003 Server with ExtremeZ-IP for file sharing. After the update my PS users would open a file off of the server, do their retouch and save the file back to the server. Once the save completes Photoshop quits. To make matters worse the Crash Reporter also quits so I can't find out exactly what crashed. For some users Photoshop crashes after each save, for others it crashes one out of three saves.
I spent several hours this morning trying to find out what was crashing and finding a fix. Here's what works so far...
I downgraded the AppleShare client software on the Macs to the version that shipped in 10.4.5. I replaced these three folders with the older ones:
    /System/Library/Filesystems/AppleShare
    /System/Library/Frameworks/AppleShareClientCore.framework
    /System/Library/Frameworks/AppleshareClient.framework
After repairing permissions and restarting the Mac Photoshop no longer crashes.

After upgrading I could not save more than two pictures out of Photoshop before it crashed. I saved to a networked AFP server and AFP seems to be the problem, because saving via SMB don?t cause Photoshop to crash. It looks like the old problem with InDesign and SMB in 10.4.4 (InDesign crashed as soon as you tried to open via SMB) is resurrected in a new variety. The InDesign-problem was solved in the 10.4.5 upgrade. Seems Apple can't get AFP and SMB to be in step when upgrading.

  • WIFI Quit after upgrade to firmware 3.1.

My WIFI quit after upgrading from 2.1.1 to 3.1. It worked twice since the upgrade for a period of an hour or so. I have tried to reset the network, All settings, serveral reinstallation of the firmware. I also Tried to manually enter in my WIFI information, with no success. I tried everything. I can see wifi information when I go into the general settings>About> Wi-Fi Adress 00:1c:b3:48:ce..... My warrenty is no longer valid. Any suggestions???

I've now posted these changes at two other WiFi threads. Try these Settings changes:
    The Setting changes are:
Fetch New Data > Push: Off
Fetch settings are set to Manual & in Advanced all is set to Manual.
My iPhone also lost WiFi but with the changes above it now connects though it takes a bit longer to find the signal. No longer have Push but WiFi is more important, to me anyway. Another iPhone user had success with the above changes.
    Good luck.

  • My computer crashed after an attempt to upgrade to Yosemite. I can't quit the installer and my MacBook keeps on restarting

My computer crashed after an attempt to upgrade to Yosemite. I can't quit the installer and my MacBook keeps on restarting

I Have a 2008 Macbook Pro 15". It was running issue free until I upgraded to Yosemite. Now my logic board is fried and apple will not fix it. It started with mail accounts unable to send mail, just had to delete accounts and re- install to fix that. But, at the same time as the download, I started intermittently getting a green tint over the screen along with a snowy static like an old TV set. Fearing that my download was corrupt, I re- installed Yosemite over-writing the previous version .  The green haze kept coming and going, but I also started getting strobe style white flashes in boxes in the 4 corners of my monitor. I had to do power button forced shutdowns because of pointer and keyboard function failure. Apple Genius desk told me it appeared to be a logic board failure but my computer was too old for them to work onand referred me to a Mac Specialist Center. I was told by both places that Apple installed defective logic boards back then due to changing solder formula. They extended product warranty by adding 1 yr but that still expired in 2012. I tried to post a warning on Mac Forums twice about Yosemite being a poison pill to certain platforms and my posts were pulled. The second attempt was responded to in my personal email account stating that if I don't stop posting derogatory comments, I will be blocked from forum. I am just trying to insert warnings in posts where I can. They haven't discovered that yet. Spread the word!

  • After having had to upgrade to windows 7 i cant find the product key for my photoshop elements 8

i kept the download for my photoshop elements 8 but after the windows 7 upgrade i cant find the product key for the PSE8

This isn't the PSE forum Edward, but you might be aware of that.
PSE8 is going to be fairly old I'm thinking?  Like I said... this is not the PSE forum so people don't tend to know much about it.   The reason I make that point, is that if you have previously registered your copy of PSE8, you will be able to log on to your Adobe ID, go to My orders, and find both a link to download the installation file, and your serial number.
Other than that, I am not sure how you will find it.

  • IPhoto quits after upgrade to OSX Mavericks

I have a macbook pro & I have recently upgraded to OSX Mavericks & installed all the latest updates.
My problem is with iPhoto unexpectantly quitting after selecting slideshow to view an album. I set the transitions ,music etc then click play, then it quits.
I have created a slideshow then again selected transitions, music etc, clicked play & iPhoto quits again.
Perhaps there is something I am missing in the new upgrade, just can't see what.
    Can anyone help please.
    Regards Robyn

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
If the problem goes away in the new library you'll need to fix your current library.
Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
