PhotoShop CS2 Bridge caused strange loss of desktop visibility/memory ??

I have a G5 (Duel) running Tiger 10.4.6. Just lately the Bridge in Photoshop CS2 has not been working too well - it became very slow and sometimes didn't "see" my images. Yesterday I could get it to find my image folders at all. Then all my desktop started to look weird - even when I wasn't using the Bridge. So I closed all the applications and restarted the computer. To my horror all my desktop and preferences (dock, safari, desktop picture, folders etc.) had been lost. At first I thought I had somehow lost all my image folders but using spotlight I found them all there - distribted in places I had never put them. I sorted everything out again and re-did all my customised stuff but it was scary! At no time did the computer give me any warning of any trouble. It did not crash or anything. I was running QuarkXpress 5 (classic 9) as well and had a Skype window open (although I wasn't using it to talk at the time) Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this happened - has it happened to anyone else ? Thanks for any help.. Diana

Hi jamba,
I think the issue is that your output of lspci shows no Audio device. Perhaps it got disabled in the BIOS? dmesg output may indicate something else afoot with your audio hardware.
Hope that helps.
I'll check out dmesg output.  also still need to check if something got disabled in the BIOS.
!snd_intel8x0m  <- is your problem. Your sound module got blacklisted so un-list it. Modprobe it then try sound again or just reboot and it should work.
moonswan.  snd_intel8x0 is the sound card (I think), in the alsa wiki it said it was recommended to blacklist snd_intel8x0m as a quirk fix.
No sound with or without it blacklisted still :-(

  • IPhoto VS Photoshop CS2 "Bridge"

    Hello,
Anyone here in the forum use Photoshop CS2 Bridge?
I'm thinking about switching over from iPhoto to Bridge and was wondering if anyone had any advice about the the two apps?
    Thanks

Pro app vs. consumer App. Learning curve for Bridge, assuming you want to learn all its features, will be higher. You need to manager your own files in Bridge, a pro and a con. I'm not sure Bridge has any concept like albums.
Bridge will work directly with EXIF and IPTC data, which is nice.

  • Camera Raw Photoshop CS2 & Bridge Parsing Problem

I am having an issue with Photoshop CS2. I am trying to work on a .tiff file that I have used the HDR automate tool from. The HDR renders files in 32-bit and therefor I render back to 16-bit once I have compressed the files and save as a .tiff file.
I then use bridge to try and open the .tiff file and the camera raw file is shaded grey. I also have tried opening in PS CS2 and this message comes up when I try and force Camera Raw to Open..."Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file".
PS will open the tiff file on a compressed version and not in the Camera Raw Function.
I have read numerous posts on this kind of problem and people say to update your camera raw plu-in and I have done that and am having the same problem.
Any suggestions I would very much appreciate it.

    Hi Patrick,
You need CR 4.x and Ps CS3 in order to open non-camera raw TIFFs.

  • Long standing bug in Photoshop CS2 Bridge

I have been using Photoshop CS2 for many years and have constantly "lived with" a bug in Bridge whereby, instead of an image thumbnail, there is just an icon shown. This is the same icon that appears before Bridge has read all the images to produce the thumbnails - but some of them get "stuck" and there seems to be no way to make Bridge "read" the image and produce the thumbnail. Pressing "View" "Refresh" (or PF5) does not work. Is there any fix I can download for this, please?

Curt touched on a possible concept:  Abandon Bridge and get a codec pack for Windows Explorer.  Then just use Explorer to integrate your work.  This, of course, assumes you're using Windows.
It's possible a newer version of Photoshop might come with a Bridge implementation that doesn't fail in the same way.  It's pretty much futile to hope for a change to Photoshop CS2 in this day and age.
Did Bridge CS2 have the functions the modern version has for requesting a clearing of the Bridge cache?  If not, perhaps those functions were added to address the kinds of problems you're having.

  • MetaData import from Photoshop CS2 Bridge to Lightroom??

    Dear all,

    1) I am trying to figure out whether Metadata import from Bridge to LR will be supported?
    2) I am not satisfied with Bridge as a Data Asset Management tool and due to an urgent project have to organize all of my >250 Giga data. ASAP. Any suggestions for a workaround until LR is released for purchase?

  • Photoshop CS2 issues & Customer Relation's solution

i bought a g5 quad in June 06 that failed in july 06. they were unable to resolve the issue and gave me a replacement machine.
i was given a mac pro with 4GB of RAM and a terabyte of internal storage. the 2 oem 500GB Seagate 7200.10 hard drives took over 9+ hours to zero out: the apple store genius told me this was normal. i have since purchased 2 different hard drives. one of the same capacity which zero's out in under 2 hours. that number IS normal.
Adobe Photoshop CS2 Bridge and Camera RAW have never worked properly on this machine since i got it, quitting all the time when renaming files or browsing my hard drive folders in Bridge. i was told that this is normal and that CS3 and Leopard will fix all this. then the CS3 Beta came out and the machine quits even with the new version.
i contacted Adobe, they say it is my hardware. i went to the apple store and showed them the problem and was able to duplicate it on every mac pro in their store and they said it must be a software issue.
i bought more RAM from apple. the machine works somewhat better now, but it still crashes in photoshop and adobe camera raw and bridge. i purchased lightroom and have looked at changing my workflow, and this program too quits intermittently.
i called apple customer support again. they walked me through using a different user account. same issues. i asked to speak to customer relations. i got on the phone with the lady, and i asked if it was possible to send someone out to look at the machine since it is not working properly, and she said that it is not something they would do since it is not their problem. i asked if they would be able to help me decipher the crash logs so i can find out WHY the machine is crashing.
her exact words were, "well, maybe you can sell it? if it is giving you all these problems and since it is not our hardware, it might be best for you to sell it and buy something that works."
"sell it." i would like to say that "sell it" was not the answer i was looking for. i wasn't even mean to her. i was extremely polite and i got, "sell it" from customer relations. i hope none of you get "sell it"
good luck to all of you.

You use to use Windows but decided to move to Macs at some point, and not look or go back. And that the Quad G5 worked up until some point.
When I got my Mac Pro back in late August/early Sept, I ran into some oddities that no one could help me with. Drivers from Lexmark for their laser printers. Suffice to say that I spent weeks if not month trying to track down why etc. and doing the "clean install" but ended up with the original install disk image.
I'm always afraid if I am forced to install any drivers for now as a result.
I updated SoftRAID (I thought) and ran into every driver and extension conflict possible, known and unknown.
Clean install and avoided anything I could "live without" this time around, and it was stable. For a few days, any and every - and I mean absolutely anything I tried to launch, run or whatnot would CRASH.
I was ready to point fingers. But at whom? ah! must be the Ramjet. Passes all tests, but there must be a gremlin and nothing is good enough to find the cause.
System is now rock solid and stable.
I don't know really what or why. And whether it was SMC reset (I wish they would paint the button in RED!) or zapping PRAM/NVRAM.
I also installed Vista to see if it was OS X or hardware or not. But I never learned what is needed to really use and secure a Windows system - or troubleshoot it if it goes haywire. But you would.
I have spent 40+ yrs tinkering with computers, and 20 with Macs. I think I still remember some of the troubleshooting days from 1990 hunting down shareware bugs.
If it is hardware, it would fail running XP too, maybe? did you retain your license for and copies of Windows and CS2 or whatever you would use? (The Mac Pro really shines running Windows Vista from what I've seen).
It doesn't take a lot to turn a Mac into a crash-prone system. There are some bugs even with the OS update installer itself it seems.
Troubleshooting is as much art as science. Hunches based on what feels wrong with some sweat and guesses backed by some "CSI" sleuthing and detective work.
Only Apple or Intel would know if they have had to come out with re-designed chips, a newer motherboard, or cpus. Or the AMB used on the Risers.
As I said (5 pages ago?) a friend had a G5 Quad that would not run CS2 properly, was crashing etc. (and had on-site Care etc) and the latest logicboard (3rd) stopped the problems, CS2 runs faster and better, it doesn't crash, and the benchmarks show it.
There are revisions to logic-boards. I read it takes 3-6 months to get a pattern of a problem, and another 3-6 months to redesign parts, manufacturing, testing, between engineering prototypes and manufacturing.
I thought the whole idea of AppleCare was sort of the "care" in AppleCare. And to solve a problem.
It would take someone with access to what engineering errata is going on. What changes were made to G5s. There were other problems with Quad it seems as well, heat, the liquid cooling components (there are two varieties).
I don't have the stomach or temper to deal with customer service, phones, etc. But I would make an appointment (yes, again!). I don't know what terms there are for small business or customers to get premium care, probably not good.
We had a mainframe with a bad memory card or bank. We thought. We also swapped out every part trying to get it fixed. We even had to keep the room temp colder and controlled humidity. A new system for us would have been lower maintenance, lower energy bill, less strain on a/c even. And smaller (so we didn't need to use as much floor space). But government can be "penny wise and pound foolish" in such matters.
I know you are just getting familiar with things like "Onyx" and "Disk Warrior" and such. Those can be helpful.
Crashing does tend to lead to more crashes. Mac OS X is not immune to side effects of what they can do. And usually you want to finish a project, not get sidelined.
I wish you had a G5 Quad in there. Two systems. Maybe two G5s even if you have the work or so you can be running CS2 on one and CS3 on another. Or have a techie "gearhead" come in and test and insure that your systems are in working order. Something.
It ain't normal. And it should get more than a "brush off."

  • Can not open Adobe Bridge in Photoshop CS2

Adobe Bride is supposed to be included with Photoshop CS2, but there are no links to it when in Photoshop.  File>Browse does not go to Bridge.   I downloaded a new copy of Bridge from Adobe and installed it.  There is still no link to Bridge in Photoshop, but there is a Bridge icon in the start menu.  However, double clicking the icon gives the error "The program cannot start because the file libagluc28.dll is missing from your computer".    However, a search for that file finds it in three locations: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Help Center, C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2, and C:Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat.  Any ideas as to how to start AdBridge?

Adobe has disabled the activation server for CS2 products, including Acrobat 7, because of a technical issue. These products were released more than seven years ago, do not run on many modern operating systems, and are no longer supported.
Adobe strongly advises against running unsupported and outdated software. The serial numbers provided as a part of the download may only be used by customers who legitimately purchased CS2 or Acrobat 7 and need to maintain their current use of these products.

  • Update Photoshop CS2 (Adobe Bridge, AdobeStockPhotos)

  • How do I install Photoshop CS2 on a new Mac desktop ?

I have not used my Photoshop CS2 for a few years;   I used to have it on my PC and It loaded and worked fine-   But I had a lot of trouble  between PC and viruses, and so now,   I have chosen an Apple Mac desktop. I have had it for about a week now. The prolem however is that the programme does not seam to load , do I need to go back to using a PC ?  Or is there a way that I can install CS2 on my new Mac?   When I put the disc in the Drive the CS2Disk appears; when I double click on it ; the window showing the folders opens;  and that is where I am stuck. ps the software is original. I am A pensioner and a Fine artist can you help me. also the photoshop logo does not appear on the desktop.

    No way.
    a) PC software doesn't run on Macs.
    b) that being the case, you would have to switch paltforms but
    c) Adobe only offers it for current versions (Order an Adobe product platform swap or language swap)
    d) even if it were possible, CS2 doesn't run on any modern Mac because Apple have long removed PPC code as used by that version
This is not going anywhere for a number of reasons as you see. You will have to come up with something else like getting  a current version of PS Elements, signing up for Creative Cloud or using free software like GIMP, if you realyl don't want to spend any money.

I have a Mac computer and am trying to use a Photoshop CS4 program, but after accessing my desktop files through Adobe Bridge and clicking twice on any of the pictures to get into Photoshop, instead of entering photoshop, I get on the lefthand side an enlarged version of the picture with red, yellow and green buttons on top. Any suggestions on what is wrong, or what can be corrected ?

And there is the problem. Your pictures are opening up in Mac's own Preview app.
Do you want all your jpegs to open in Photoshop, or only when you are in Bridge?
Selecting a program to open a certain file is called: File Type Association.
You can choose this at the MacOS level or the Bridge level.
    Here's how to do both:
Either MacOS or Bridge has the wrong app associated with the jpeg. Let's start with MacOS
Close Bridge and Preview. Select one of your jpegs, and press Cmd i, That will bring up the file info window.
Go down to the "Open with" section of File Info.
Choose Photoshop CS4 and click on the Change All... button to apply this choice to every jpeg on your Mac.
Then open Bridge and see if double-clicking opens it in Photoshop.
Now that means all jpegs on your Mac will open in Photoshop.  Maybe you don't want that.
You can set your jpegs to open in Preview when Bridge is closed.
When you open Bridge, there is Preferences > File Type Associations where you can direct Bridge to open the jpegs in Photoshop when you are viewing in Bridge.

  • Photoshop CS2 - Blowing scans up with as little loss of quality as possible

What's the best way to make a file that you can blow up into a big poster, say 10 by 20 feet, for example, without the image being too blurry?
I plan to scan in some drawings I did on 8.5x11", colour them in Photoshop CS2, and then make a file so that you can print it out as a big poster, like the 10 by 20 feet example above. I would like the printout to be sharp (as little loss of quality as possible).
What's the best way to do this?
Which dpi should I scan the pictures in, so I can blow them up big?
Which file type should I save the working file, and the file I'm going to print them out?
    Please advise. Thank you.

What are your specifics (how high is the resolution of the scans, how many pixels do you have in the image you want to print)?
There are some tools out there for doing just that kind of thing, but you have to realize that there are limits - no software yet can invent detail where none exists.
Starting with very CLEAN image information, a product called Perfect Resize (which used to be called Genuine Fractals) is pretty good at this, as it finds "edges" in the image and tries to preserve them.  I have a beautiful 24 x 30 inch print I made from an old Canon D30 capture (just 3 megapixels) upsampled with Perfect Resize and it stands up even to close inspection.
But the good news is that people don't usually scrutinize giant prints from too closely.  A rule of thumb is that viewing distance will typically be no closer than about the long dimension of the image (e.g., 20 feet in your case).
OnOne Software has a trial version of Perfect Resize available (chances are you'll only need the standard edition).  Alternatively, if you'd like to post a small part of an image you're considering blowing up, I'll be happy to run it through Perfect Resize and post the result so you can see.  Here's a small example using one of my own images:
    Original:
Upsampled 400% in each dimension (this forum software may mess up the display but you should be able to copy and paste it into Photoshop or a viewer app):
