Photoshop CS2 denying administrative privileges

I just installed Photoshop CS2 on Windows Vista and registered it using my serial number, but when I open the program to use it, a window pops up telling me "You are not allowed to continue because your account does not have the proper privileges. Pleases log in using an account with administrator privileges and try again."
The problem is that it's my personal laptop and I'm the only user (or administrator for that matter) on it. Why isn't it accepting that? I tried asking Microsoft for answers but they said to ask the Adobe Support team. I called technical support but they don't do CS2 anymore. Anybody have answers?

Don't run the program installer when you put the DVD in. You need to explore the disk. Look for the photoshop folder. Open the folder and look for the .exe file, right click on that and choose run as Admin.
Before you install on Windows 7 ensure any anti-virus is turned off to include windows defender. Keep UAC running.

  • Access Denied when trying to access shared folders on the server with administrative privileges

I have problem accessing shared folder on the server machine from Windows 7 machine even if I try to access it with administrative privileges (server Administrator account). I will try now to explain better my situation.
In my company, we have small network infrastructure with one main server machine (HP ProLiant server) with Windows Server 2012 R2 installed and couple of desktop machines. The network is administrated by me.
On Windows Server we have installed and setup DHCP, DNS, Remote Access and Routing, File and Storage and Active Directory services. Desktop machines are having Windows 8.1 Pro, Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 Home Premium installed on them. In Active
Directory I have created domain, User groups and Users for employees in my company and so far, I didn't added desktop machines to the domain.
Also, I've created one folder on the server which should contain different projects data for network users and I have set access permissions and security for this folder and shared it on the network (I've added couple of users to one user group and I
gave Full control to this group over this folder). When I try to access this folder from network, I've been asked for login credentials (normally), where I just type in one of users username and password who has been given access permissions to (who is member
of group with full control over the folder). From Windows 8.1 Pro and Windows 8.1 machines I can access and work on this folder without any problems.
The problem comes with Windows 7 machines. On Windows 7 machines (I have also tried this with Windows 7 Ultimate in VMWare) I can access server, I can see its shares, but as soon I try to access folder I've created for projects, I get Access Denied message
with request for User login credentials. Whichever user account I use (even servers main Administrator account) I keep getting this message over and over and I'm unable to access it at all.
I have also tried to access the server through VPN (from local or outside) but I'm getting the same error again. Also I've tried to add these Windows 7 machines to the domain and login with domain user but the result is the same. Turned off both firewalls
(on server and desktop machines, which I know is unnecessary, but lets try it), still same case. I've tried couple more things with registry editor on desktop machines which I found on different forums and websites but still no luck. And now I don't know
    what else I can do.
Does anyone knows what's the problem here, have I set something wrong, have not set something I should?

    Hi MeipoXu,
thanks for your response. I will first answer on your question.
Yes, the main issue is that we can see the folder when we access the server but we cannot access its contents from Windows 7 machines. I have tried on two machines, one with Windows 7 Home Premium version and the other one with Windows 7 Ultimate version
and the situation is the same.
As you recommended, I've checked Network Discovery and File and Printer Sharing and the situation is next: File and Printer Sharing is turned on all layers (Private, Public and Domain) while Network Discovery is off for all layers too. I don't know if this
is normal thing but Network Discovery cannot be turned on in Windows Server (I'm able to select Turn on Network Discovery and apply the changes, but when I get back to this settings page, I again see that it's turned off, so I assume this can't be changed
    at all).
I also tried with icacls in command prompt and everything seems to be ok there regarding permissions. Share permissions are set to Full control to Everyone and Security permissions are set to Full control only for Administrators and the user group I've created
for employees in my company. The confirmation for this is that on Windows 8 machines you can access this folder without any problem and without getting any message connected with access permissions with any user account within this user group. This share is
created through File and Storage Services service in Server Manager panel.
And then something came up on my mind. I went in Server Manager to check shared folder settings in File and Storage Services and under Settings page I saw that "Encrypt data access" has been enabled (I enabled this option because I thought
I will get more security with this option). I asked my self what would happen if I disable it, tried it and now everything works ok on Windows 7 machines too. Now I assume that Windows 7 doesn't have this feature implemented or there are some
settings which needs to be set on Windows 7 machines to make this encryption thing work with Windows Server. So basically, I will let this feature off for now until I find out more about it and how to implement it to work with all operating systems.
I want to thank you once more for your kind help!

I will be upgrading to photoshop elements 12 and read that it was necessary to install photoshop elements with an account that has administrative privileges.  I'm not sure how to do this.

    Waltard wrote:

There is no problem with any of the PSE versions.  I have used version 10, version 11 and version 12 in trial mode and I didn't see any problems with any of them.
Your case is unique in that you have only one user account on the machine and so by default that account has all the privileges of an Administrator.
also, you don't need to uninstall anything;  Version 10 and version 12 can work from your one machine.  they are installed on separate folders so don't worry about having old version on your machine.
Just go ahead and install version 12.  You can download a trial version of PSE12 and it has all the features and functions of the boxed version that you can buy from Amazon or some big name stores.  After installing the trial version, you can use it for 30 days and by that time you will have made up your mind whether 12 is better for your need.  If you like it, all you need to do is to buy the boxed version and use the serial number to activate what is already on your machine.  You don't need to re-install it using the DVDs in the box.
    Hope this helps.

  • Photoshop CS2 Corrupted by Virus

I had the unfortunate experience of having a virus infect my pc. After the virus was removed, Photoshop would not launch. Received error messages regarding bad files, access denied, etc. Decided to unstall the program and then reinstall. The uninstall seemed to work -- meaning t went through some actions and eventually stopped. But when I tried to reinstall, I got this message:
Error 1321.  The installer has insufficient privileges to modiy the file c:/Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS2/Scripting Guide/Sample
                                       Scripts/JavaScript/Active layer.jsx.
Dead in the water at this point.  Suggestions?   (Using XP Pro).
    Joe

Reinstall the application from your disc or the backup image you made of the files you downloaded.
Search the Adobe site for instructions on how to do a full removal first.  This may help:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/331/331405.html
Beyond that, your system itself may be corrupted.

  • Will Windows 7 run Photoshop CS2?

Will a new laptop running Windows 7 be able to run Photoshop CS2?
    Mary Lou

In a nutshell, with User Account Control enabled, Windows Vista and newer try to run your programs as though you're a non-privileged user, even if your account is a privileged Administrator of the computer (most people set themselves up as Administrator).  UAC also redirects accesses to certain parts of the file system to other places, and this is what can interfere with the operation of Photoshop.
The idea is that if you inadvertently run malware, it has less chance to wreck your system if you're running it in a non-privileged manner.
If you're confident your good computing practices and anti-malware software are protecting you from malware infections, then you can disable UAC and Windows will run pretty much as it did back in the day (of XP).  With UAC disabled (set to the lowest setting), if you're a privileged user all the software you run will have full privileges, and no file accesses will be redirected.
It may be that you can temporarily disable UAC while installing Photoshop CS2, then reset it back to default levels.  I haven't tried that but it has a chance of working.
    To disable UAC, do this:
    1.  Click Start, then type UAC into the search box (don't hit Enter).
    2.  When Change User Account Control Settings comes up, click it.
    3.  Drag the slider to the bottom ("Never notify").
    Some light reading:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_Account_Control
It's worth taking the time to understand what UAC does, then you'll fully understand the risks you're taking (or not taking) by changing the settings.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS2 Installing Error

When I tried to Install for tryout version, it sometimes has an error. It says me to put the serial number in. Though it succeed it, it says like this : "Error 1311. Source file not found: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\Photoshop_CS2_tryout\Photoshop CS2\Adobe(R) Photoshop(R) CS2\Data1.cab. Verify that the file exits and that you can access it.".
I verified that the file exits, and I could acces it. What is happening?!

    Hi ,
We really apologize for all the inconvenience which has caused you.
Simply put it in another folder. The path is too long and unnecessarily convoluted - folders inside folders inside folders....

  • Adobe Photoshop CS2 Install

I am attempting to install Adobe Photoshop CS2, I know it is an old version, but I am unable to upgrade at this time.  However, I have the full version of Adobe Photoshop CS2, and when I run the install it states that it is looking for a previous version of Photoshop.  I have verified that this is not an upgrade only cd.  Please advise.

Thanks for trying to help out guys but after hours of toying with this thing it finally hit me like a brick wall.  I found a work around.
For anyone that may run into this issue in the future:
When you run the Adobe Photoshop CS2 install and it will not let you install due to looking for previous versions
Install Adoby Photoshop CS2 as the 30 day trial, which will install without any issues.
After the installation is completed then ender the serial number manually after that.
Not sure why it has to be a PITA about it, but it works.

  • Photoshop CS2: "file not compatible with this version of Photoshop" error

So, I've been working with Photoshop for almost 20 years now, and lately I've been getting this error message on occasion (but not on every file) when I go to open a file I worked on just yesterday: "Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop." I just worked on it yesterday in Photoshop. The file was saved as a PSD, and when I attempt to open it through Painter IX, that program tells me that it's not a Photoshop document. Why can't I open this file anymore, and why is it giving me this error message when I don't have Norton AntiVirus installed, and my 'maximize PSD and PSB file compatibility' is set to 'always'??
Does anyone have an idea on how I can open my file? How can I get around this, and how do I prevent it from happening again?
    OS: OSX 10.4.11

This is the boilerplate text I use in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that normally, it does work, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please
    cease and desist immediately
in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files.
Working across a network is not supported.
    See:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/322391.html
    Copy the
CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work. It should.
Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does
not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.

  • Can't Install Photoshop CS2 Correctly

I recently installed Photoshop CS2 on my Windows XP (SP2) computer. It installed fine about a year ago, but I got a virus and had to format my drive to get rid of it a few months ago. I tried to reinstall my software today, opened it, clicked the register later option and tried to start using the software but an error message popped up: "An error has been detected and activation cannot continue. Please restart your computer and reinstall the application." Obviously I followed these instructions. I also tried running the installer as an administrator. No luck. No matter what options I select I still get this message. I can't even install the 30-day trial version of the software because when I start using it, I still get this message. I even get it when I'm not connected to the internet. I don't care if this isn't the latest version. I still paid hundreds of dollars for this software and I should be able to use it regardless, so would someone please tell me a way around this issue? I have a feeling if I contact customer service, they won't care because it's an older Photoshop. Also note that I've been unable to install this software on other computers as well. I only have one computer running the software, but I was told that I could install this on two computers. Even if I couldn't, that still doesn't explain why even the trial version of the software doesn't work. Please help. Thanks.

  • Photoshop CS2- Invalid Serial Number

I am installing my Adobe Photoshop CS2 on Windows Vista.
When I try to install the program after entering my serial number that is on the CD case,
the program states "Invalid Serial Number."
Customer Service gave me new serial numbers to attempt at fixing this issue and those numbers still yielded an "Invalid Serial Number" error.
Tech Support had me create new accounts with admin rights on my laptop (which didn't work) and then gave me a link
about the issue that had nothing to do with me since I have no VCOM software on my laptop (so that too was bogus).
I requested to speak to a manager where the agent diverted with giving me solutions that did not work also in which
he had me use this registry cleaner software and it still didn't work (I didn't have previous adobe software on my computer,
so it wasn't a surprise that it didn't work)
So... Does anyone know how I can install my program on my laptop without getting an Invalid Serial Number error?????
Maybe regular users have some answers.

I've only had similar happen once, when I upgraded AI over about 3-4 versions. My S/N was from the first PC release, and the internal database in the upgrade did not recognize the format, or the S/N. In that case, a 5 min. call to C/S resulted in a number to enter from Adobe, and then it took my S/N fine.
Obviously, you've gone that route, and it's not working. Seems that things have changed with C/S, but I am talking over a decade ago. Are you talking to C/S (Customer Service), or T/S (Technical Service)? For "sales" related things, I have found that C/S is the better. I am assuming that they are still separate departments, though both might well be in India.
Now, one question, you say that C/S told you to run on one machine with "administrative rights." Did you try as an Administrator? These are similar, but there can be differences.
Wish I had something else to offer.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Photoshop CS2 installation issue

I had to clone my hard drive, and then CS2 didn't work anymore. I downloaded the individual programs from http://www.adobe.com/downloads/cs2_downloads/index.html, and they installed and ran OK except for Photoshop. At the end of the install I got this error message: "Error 1402.Could not open key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\...Adobe Photoshop CS2 - {236BB7C4-4419-42FD-0409-1E257A25E34D}. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel." I tried it as the administrator, etc., but I keep getting this message. What can I do?

    Hello Jeff,
I am using Windows 7 Pro, and yes, all was operating well before the activation servers shut down. Also, as I said in the initial message, I was able to download and install the CS2 versions of InDesign, Illustrator, and Acrobat (downloaded from http://www.adobe.com/downloads/cs2_downloads/index.html ). When I try to install the version of Photoshop CS2 (downloaded from that same site), I get the error message (right at the very end of install) "Error 1402.Could not open key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\...Adobe Photoshop CS2 - {236BB7C4-4419-42FD-0409-1E257A25E34D}. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel."
I'm a high school teacher and I use these programs all the time, so this is becoming kind of inconvenient for me...
Thanks for sticking with me on this,

  • Photoshop CS2 Quits on Saving to LAN in OSX 10.4.6

We use Photoshop CS2 and OSX 10.4.6 on 3 G5's and 1 G4. On saving a psd to LAN or desktop, Photoshop quits.
We also have 1 mac G5 on OSX 10.4.3 and 1 mac G4 on OSX 10.4.3 both using Photoshop CS2 and they both work fine.
Is this a problem with OSX 10.4.6? It only seems to have happened since the macs were updated to OSX 10.4.6
Anyone out there got any ideas? I've tried completely re-installing CS suite and also repairing disk permissions with Disk Utility but this makes no difference.
Also tried creating a new user but problem still exists.

    Hi All,
    Thanks for all your help.
Via various sources I've got the problem solved by replacing the 3 following folders from a mac with OSX 10.4.3
    System/library/filesystems/APPLESHARE
    System/library/frameworks/APPLESHARECLIENT.FRAMEWORK
    System/library/frameworks/APPLESHARECLIENTCORE.FRAMEWORK
Shut down and re-start then repair disk permissions.
Shut down and re-start and the problem should be solved.
You do need to have administrator permissions to be able to do this.
It appears that Apple have tinkered with the appleshare settings in the new release.

  • Photoshop CS2 freezing and "Not Responding"

I've had Photoshop CS2 running on the same computer and OS (Vista) since around the time it came out, and it's always worked fine for me.
A week or so ago Photoshop began to freeze continuously, and when it freezes I click on it and it goes into its "Not Responding" phase where the screen whites out. Sometimes it prompts me to close the program. I usually wait until it unfreezes (around 30 seconds) but if I open another window to pass the time, I can't click directly back into Photoshop, I have to minimize the other windows I was using to get to it, and it will not respond the first few seconds when I open the window or the program itself. Sometimes I can get a minute or so of work done, but that's usually it.
I've tried uninstalling the program then reinstalling many times, deleting the preference files with Ctrl+Alt+Del, etc. I have plenty of memory left on my computer. It's only photoshop that does this, ImageReady works fine.
Is there anything else I can try to fix it?

Please allow me to suggest a way to help determine if you have hardware problems...
    Try this:
    1.  Click your Start button and type Event Viewer in the search box.  When Event Viewer comes up, click it.
    2.  Look in the Windows System log (or Administrative Events) for errors.  If you are seeing, for example, recoverable disk errors, they will be logged.
    3.  Are you seeing any actual crashes of Photoshop?  If so, look in the Application log for more information on these events, especially for the "Faulting Module" information.
    Also:
    A.  Have you changed / installed any 3rd party software / plug-ins since it worked well?
    B.  Has your maximum RAM allocation for Photoshop changed?  What value have you set in Edit - Preferences - Performance, and what is your total RAM in your system?

  • Same Photoshop CS2 activation issue with new installer also.

Dear Adobe support team, we have downloaded the Photoshop cs2 from the link http://www.adobe.com/downloads/cs2_downloads/index.html. As per your suggestion I un-installed the older version and installed new version and tried to activate the product. But I have failed to activate as per your instruction. I want to get rid of activation message. Kindly also let us know what all do we have to un-install before the fresh installation.

    Thanks for your support.
We are able to active CS2 in administration login. Now there is no activation message.
Now there is a different message window popping up. Every time I launch Photoshop CS2, the adobe updater message is popping up. I am not able to take screen shot of the window. We tried deactivating this in msconfig options but no success.
