Photoshop CS2 invalid user name or serial number

Application won't open and I receive the following message:
" Your photoshop user name, organization, or serial number is missing or invalid. The application cannot continue and must now exit"
The application was downloaded from adobe to replace a legitimate copy of CS2 which would not operate on windows 7. This was some time ago and the application worked, but it doesn't now.
What to do?

Since you didn't answer the question of where you got Photoshop, I should point out that this is not as some people say "free Photoshop". You are only allowed to use it if you were a previous license holder of Photoshop CS or Photoshop CS2. Otherwise it's piracy. No problem at all if you are just trying to reinstall an old license, but worth pointing out as some people have found themselves in deep water.

Got CS2 To Install but now getting notified that "user name, organization name or serial number is missing or invalid."

After much frustration, got CS2 installed to replace my now-unsupported CS1. Went to open Adobe Photoshop and got your Adobe Photoshop user name, organization name or serial number is missing or invalid.

First, Ganesh, your response isn't helpful because that link just explains why I had to download CS2 in the first place. Your response is the same that I got through repeated interactions with Adobe support personnel. If you're not going to provide a solution, then do not reply at all.
Second, GautamBehl, that doesn't explain why I was getting the notification when I tried to open Photoshop after successfully installing the CS2. Perhaps I should have been clear and explained that I was installing the "3 disc" CS2 design suite.
Here's the workaround I discovered. I downloaded Photoshop CS2 separately and had no problem. I would suspect that doing likewise with the other programs would get a similar result. I would expect that Adobe would fix the problem with the CS2 suite of programs, but according to my ineractions with Adobe support, are more interested in trying to sell recent software to users that they have just frustrated.

Which Operating System you are using?
In the serial number window, on the title bar check if the product name is Photoshop elements 13
There are some PE serial number which is specific for windows OS, you may check that also.
You can contact Adobe support and verify your serial number once

Make sure you are typing the correct serial key on the insallation screen of PS CS6. Also, check if you have redeemed the serial key correctly.

I receive an invalid user name message in Creative Suite 2

I own CS2 and have had it on my Windows 7 computer until the computer crashed last week. I bought a new computer and it has Windows 8. I went to install my CS2 cds and it doesn't work. I read this thread and installed the software via the install links through my Adobe username, but Photoshop and InDesign are not working.
When I open Photoshop, I get the same "Your Photoshop username, organization, or serial number is missing or invalid. The application cannot continue and must now exit." I went to the link you gave on 3/28/14 above, but it refers to VCOM Fix-It Utilities 6 or SystemSuite 6. I have neither installed on my machine.
When I open InDesign it asks me for my serial number. I entered the number given with the CS2 download, but it doesn't work. It says "The serial number you provided is not valid. Please check your serial number and re-enter it."
I have tried to remove and reinstall several times. Please HELP!

If you registered PSE before, go to the main page of adobe.com, sign in and go to your account and you should find the serial number there in your purchases.

I am getting an "Invalid user name or password" error on E71 after changing password on both Ovi.com web site and in sync profile on E71. Yes, I did make sure to enter the correct password into my ovi.com sync profile on the E71.

I agree. I'm in the same region of the U.S. as you (McLean VA), and I bought the E71 unlocked so I could use my T-Mobile SIM and number with it. Another plus is it works just about anywhere in the world.
As regards software, a lot of it just doesn't work (a la Ovi sync). There are some very nice third party apps, such as Joikuspot (WLAN anywhere) and Goosync (when it works, it's a good Google services sync tool). I am addicted to Comedy 104 on its internet radio application, and Mobbler is a pretty good way to get a last.fm-like experience on the phone.
Shame on Nokia for releasing a not-ready for prime time service, then not supporting it. Very Microsoft-like!

Aperture keeps asking for my name and serial number

Aperture keeps asking for my name and serial number, but only on one of my Macs. This is a new Mac that I restored from my old Mac. It made sense to have to put in the documentation the first time, but the program keeps asking for it. Any thoughts?

Be sure to enter the serial number, when you are logged in from an account with Administrator priveleges - otherwise the serial number cannot be stored.
Aperture is installed for all users on your mac, so the serial number is written to the system library, not the user library; this requires read/write access for administrators. Do you enter your serial number using an administrator account?
SInce you migrated your system from another mac, you still may have an older ProAppSystemID file or Aperture cannot write to the System Library.
To stop Aperture asking for the serial number, first check, if you still have an old file "ProAppsSystemID" in your System Library.
Quit Aperture.
Go to your MacintoshHD and open the folder "Library", then "Application Support", then "ProApps".
Remove the File "ProAppsSystemID" to the Desktop, if it exist and restart Aperture.
Reenter your serial number, hopefully for the last time.
Sometimes Aperture writes this file to a temporary directory, when it cannot write to the Library. If the above does not work, look at the temporary directory /tmp
Use the Finder's "Go" menu
Go > Got to folder and enter /tmp into the textfield. If you see ProAppsSystemID there, move it to its proper location in /Library/Application Support/ProApps.
Aperture must be running, and you will have to wait a few minutes to be seeing the file appearing the /tmp directory.

I am further told that "Adobe apps cannot be installed on case-sensitive drives, you need to Install the product onto an HFS+ or HFSJ non-case-sensitive drive."
What I don't understand is this: I originally bought and installed Photoshop CS6 back in March 2013, and it worked fine. Yesterday my hard drive had to be replaced and my computer person salvaged as much of what was on it as he could, but now I have to reinstall Photoshop. 1) Why did it work before and it's not working now? 2) Is there anything I can do that does not involve reformatting the hard drive?

It means what it says. The "computer person" formatted it wrongly/ unsuitably. it needs to be formatted again.

Background job in APO does not start because of invalid user name

I have a macro in a planning book and the /sapapo/cons_check program which a triggered via a background job. Now, I have problems with the start of the job:
At the time the job was created inside SAP, an error occured. The job contains invalid values.
The user name within the job does not exist any more.
Now, I try to change the user name of the job (via step in sm37), but the error occured again.
I have the possibility to create the invalid user name once again in su01.
But I want to change the user name of the job - does somebody know how to do it?

Hello Heinz, this looks surprising.
It's quite easy to change the user name in the SM37 job step, and we haven't faced issues with this.
Could you check how many jobs are in either "scheduled" or in "released" status, and change steps for all of them? May be you changed the scheduled job, but the released job wasn't changed.
Use your job name and give a search date as 1-2 years in the past, and around 1 month in the future. With this time horizon, you should most likely be able to capture all the relevant jobs having the same name that you are using.
Now change the user name in step for all the jobs received above to be fully sure.
One more trial could be to copy the current scheduled job to another job, modify the user name in this newly created job and then delete the old one.
One of the above trials might possibly help you in some way, else its very tough to understand/explain your situation.

To add to what BenB advised, make sure you have proof of purchase when you call Apple for a replacement serial number.
For future reference, it is a good idea to keep all software serial numbers in a database or text document. Considering the cost of the software, keeping a list of serial numbers can come in very handy at times like this.
