Photoshop CS2: name server problem: Is there a solution?
Hi!
I have Photoshop CS2. I can't start the program anymore because of the already well known name server problem... (DEAR ADOBE!! HOW COULD YOU!!! )
Now, what can I do? As far as I know I purchased the software for an unlimited amount of time (thanks to the fact that there weren't any clouds, halleluja!)
Can anybody help me, please? Is there a way "around"?
Thanks a lot!!!
Christiane

Photoshop CS2 Upgrade Installation Problems w/ Vista Problems
I recently purchased a new laptop w/ Windows Vista which I'm trying to install my copy of Photoshop CS2 onto. My Photoshop license is an upgrade license ... originally upgraded from Photoshop v4.0.
When installing an upgrade copy of PS CS2, it requires proof of your previous version in order to verify you're a legitimate upgrader. This works fine if you're upgrading from a version of Photoshop after 5.x ...you simply insert your CD and the installation continues. The installation process is less straight-forward for users like myself ... installing from an upgraded version prior to 5. I'm required to call Adobe ... and conduct a phone verification procedure where I give them a code displayed on the screen during installation and they give me a response code to type into the installation form.
I deauthorized my old laptop ... start the installation routine on my new laptop ... call Adobe w/ my verification code ... enter the response code (which is accepted) and complete the installation without any problems. My problem occurs when I go to run the software. The startup screen indicates that the software is still in "Tryout Mode", and the first window I'm presented with is the "Adobe Activation" window requesting my serial number. If I try to enter my CS2 serial number it is rejected with the message:
"You must enter a valid serial number before activating online or viewing activation options. Please check your serial number and re-enter it, or click the Purchase button to buy a copy of this product"
The thing is ... this IS a valid serial number. I've confirmed this with Adobe. (It's probably an upgrade serial number, which is why the software is rejecting it). I called Adobe and they're now telling me that I must enter a paid-support agreement in order to receive help installing my software. They claim their software is working correctly, and it must be a problem with my computer.
Has anybody experienced a problem like this? I refuse to pay more for something that worked fine on XP just to use it on Vista due to bugs in their installation and activation routine.function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
mthight wrote:
Have the bugs of using with Vista been fixed, or still not working? thanks,
I know this is an old problem, but surely there is an answer to fix the problem by now...
What problems? I used Photoshop CS2 with Vista with no problems (I still have it installed on a Vista system if you'd like me to check anything in particular). CS3 and CS4 worked well as well. Haven't tried CS5 on Vista as I have moved up to Windows 7, but I suspect it works just fine.

Camera Raw Photoshop CS2 & Bridge Parsing Problem
I am having an issue with Photoshop CS2. I am trying to work on a .tiff file that I have used the HDR automate tool from. The HDR renders files in 32-bit and therefor I render back to 16-bit once I have compressed the files and save as a .tiff file.
I then use bridge to try and open the .tiff file and the camera raw file is shaded grey. I also have tried opening in PS CS2 and this message comes up when I try and force Camera Raw to Open..."Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file".
PS will open the tiff file on a compressed version and not in the Camera Raw Function.
I have read numerous posts on this kind of problem and people say to update your camera raw plu-in and I have done that and am having the same problem.
Any suggestions I would very much appreciate it.Hi Patrick,
You need CR 4.x and Ps CS3 in order to open non-camera raw TIFFs. -
Name server problem on install
Hello,
just wondering if anyone can help - haven't had too much (very little) experience with solaris (or unix for that matter).
When installing Solaris 10 from cd (sparc) I get to the 'Confirm Information' screen, click confirm and it comes back with an error stating that 'The Name Server information entered is incorrect'.
The problem is that the NS's I entered are exactly the same as the NS's on my windows machine - also hooked up to the same router.
If I accept the supposed incorrect settings and continue the install everything completes ok - except the system can't resolve names. Here's the really strang bit - I can do an nslookup of www.google.com no problem (returning from the first NS entered) but can't do a lookup of anything else.
The DNS's are external to my network (supplied by ISP) and the connection is ADSL.
Other options set in setup : DHCP - no (Static public subnetted IP), Kerberos - no, Search Domain : none, Route :specified, ipv6 - no.
(during setup)The Solaris Install Console shows:
Completing system identification...
runCmd error in /usr/sbin/sysidput with output:
Unable to run cmd: /usr/sbin/sysidput
Any help would be much appreciated. (and apologies if this is something I should have picked up on in the docs - I did read as much as I could and I have searched the net for an answer to this)(I have also posted this on the install forum, but got no replies)
GarYou should provide a bit more info on how your network is setup. How are you connected to the ADSL? Does your router have DHCP?
The DNS information you fill in during install is not ment for external DNS servers it's your local networks DNS server.
It is used to verify that the hostname you entered exists in the network/domain.
You could of course fill in external dns servers, but you'd allways end up with a 'can't resolv'. Simply because YOUR hostname does not excist on the external DNS server.
As Codename47 suggests, try not filling in a dns server. (use the hosts file instead)
Just an extra tip that appearantly some don't seems to know:
you don't have to reinstall to get it sorted. The command 'sys-unconfig' will force a reboot and guide you through the exact same configuration menu you had during install. Updating all locale, X and network settings along the way.
The nice thing is you can do it over again till you get it right and fully understand what it all means and changes. -
Net8: Names server problem
Does anyone know how to set up an Oracle Names server properly. I realize that there are two methods , one using cache replication and the other a dedicated database for name resolution. Anyway, when use the GUI tools to create a Names server, I notice that (on NT) that a service is created and it has a registry entry pointed to a file called Names.exe. However, there is no file called Names.exe on my system.

VW Iphone 4s bluetooth connection drop problem, is there a solution or do apple not care
Many people are finding their Iphone 4S drops connection with their VW (Passat etc) integrated bluetooth hands free system after working fine for 5, 10, 20 minutes. The only way to reconnect is to switch the car off or turn the Iphone bluetooth off & back on.
This is a dangerous fault and it appears that both Apple & VW have no solution (or are ignoring as they have already sold you a phone & a car).VW UK (unofficial information) have admitted that their bluetooth system in cars produced prior to 2012 has a
compatibility problem with the Iphone 4S.
This is due to that bluetooth system being developed prior to the launch of the Iphone 4S.
VW cars produced in 2012 have a different bluetooth system that works OK with the Iphone 4S.
As the bluetooth systems are different we are told there is no update software for pre 2012 cars & it is unlikely that
there will be any update in the future.
We have checked this theory as we have 2011 & 2012 VW Passats in our fleet & the drivers of the 2012 cars
have no problems with their 4S bluetooth, the drivers of the 2011 cars all have drop out problems.
The best we can hope for is that Apple acknowledge the problem that they have created (as it is not a VW only issue)
& bring out an update for the 4S that makes its bluetooth as reliable as the Iphone 4. -
White Screen problem - is there a SOLUTION?
I know that many, many people get the "white screen" with content purchased via Apple TV. I know that unplugging and rebooting the ATV works for me. What I want to know is why this problem persists and if there is a definitive solution to it. I'm connected via ethernet to my Airport Extreme, so it's not a network issue.
I'm just tired of the unplug/reboot way of doing things, and would love it if it JUST WORKED...Not sure if you've tried a reboot by holding Menu and down button, rebooting to diagnostics, then choosing restart - this might temporasrily resolve the issue and prevent you juggling cables, but is slower and not a full fix. Though I'd mention in case you're not aware.
It would be worth telling Apple of the problem here - the more that do the more likely it'll be fixed:

Head Jack problems--is there a soluti
Music output through the headset is intermittent. Usually can only hear one channel. Replaced headset with another that works. both headsets work in second zen micro.Wiggle the male headset plug in the socket and get sometimes can get both channels. Looks like a bad connection internally either the part or the solder joint, assuming there is such a thing in there. This is my daughters and it hasn't been used that much that it should fail in less than a year.
Is it easily fixable, or need I send it in? How much do they charge for labor if it's less than a year old? And where do I send it to?As stated below there is a solution, but to prevent that problem ever happening to you again, I suggest that you never wrap your headphones around your player while still connected in the jack. That put a lot of stress on the jack causing it to break the supports. I used to do that before I learned it damaged my player. I think most people do that and is why they have so many problems. Just keep it in mind.

Photoshop CS2 crashes after MS Office install
Hello everyone,
I have been using Photoshop CS2 without any problems since I bought my new iMac a few months ago. I haven't used Photoshop for a week or so, and I am not sure if my last system update to 10.6.8 was before or after that pause in my Photoshop use. What I am sure of is that the day before yesterday I installed Microsoft Office for Mac 2011.
Since yesterday Photoshop crashes like crazy: sometimes right on startup, sometimes when I do something like open a new document or whatever. I cannot find any systematics as to when Photoshop crashes, only that it usually crashes pretty quickly.
Below is the latest crash report. I don't know if the others say the same. Can anyone understand what the reason for the crash is or even if it is related to the Office installation or bad fonts or ...?
Thank you!!!

I've been using CS2 for several years, and currently under OS 10.5.6 (so it is NOT an OS 10.6.x issue). I've been very careful to keep permissions repaired etc. before & after any major install or update. Never, ever had any problem with CS2, none. A few weeks ago, I upgraded from Office Mac 2008 to 2011. Everything seemed fine with the Mac until the next time I used CS2 to scan some docs, but it started crashing for no apparent reason. I was about to try re-installing CS2 or even pay to upgrade to CS5 (CS2 is fine for my needs ... back when it worked). I'm glad I googled "office 2011 photoshop" and found this series of posts. qwertyboy's original post sounded as if I had written it! I hope the font thing is the fix ... however, that seems like the kind of problem that would have affected a Mac 20 years ago back in the dark ages of running OS 7, not a modern OS ... shame on MS software code people for not following Apple Developer guidelines for managing fonts or whatever. Thanks all for the good posts!
PS: I need to comment on the crash report:
"I say it's not Office because there isn't one reference to Office in the crash report. All are squarely Adobe PS."
That's like saying it was Abe Lincoln's fault that he was assassinated because he didn't get out of the way of John Wilkes Booth's bullet; the evidence being that Lincoln's blood was all over the place, but none of Booth's was found. -
it seems that adobe wants people to by there over priced products at every upgrade. because i was unable to deactivate my pscs2 be for doing a system restore ia'm now unable to reactivate the program. i successfuly transfered the software from a win xp computer to a win 7 computer and had it work great for six years, adobe tech support claims if will only work on win xp & vista. anyone out there now of a solution?
Adobe decommissioned the CS2 activation server but provided a free solution:
You have to download a special version of CS2 that does not require activation but needs the new serial number they also provide.
Google "download adobe Photoshop CS2" if the following link doesn't give you access immediately:
https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/entitlement/index.cfm?e=cs2_downloads
