Photoshop CS2 obsolete with an Olympus E-3

I just received my new Olympus E-3 this week and it is a very impressive professional DSLR camera. I have to say that I am exceedingly disappointed with Adobe right now as it looks like they are no longer supporting Photoshop CS2 even though it is only one revision old. With the latest updates I can use their digital negative converter (which I wish more camera manufacturers would support) and my Photoshop Elements 5.0, including Camera RAW, works with the E-3 ORF/RAW files. Photoshop CS2 apparently has no plug-in for it, the latest Camera RAW doesn't work in it or in Bridge, and it no longer accepts new .dng files sent to it from PSE5. It is now largely useless to me as I can't used it until the photos are degraded .jpg's.
I am on Vista, so is their anything I need to do, or is my analysis above correct? CS-2 over CS had enough to make me upgrade, CS-3 over CS-2 didn't.

Nobody likes the fact that to get the latest raw support for the latest
camera (without hoop jumping) you have to upgrade Photoshop. Most of don't
think it is fair. However, there are some things to keep in mind.
1. Each new major release of Photoshop brings massive updates to ACR. These
updates would not be an easy or really cost effective thing to do for older
versions of ACR.
2. It is very likely that updates to ACR are not solely in ACR itself. I
would imagine that some changes have to be made to Photoshop to. This means
they couldn't update ACR to work with CS2 because CS2 is lacking things that
would be needed. Things that are only in CS3.
3. Even if Adobe charged $19.95 for the ACR upgrade for Photoshop CS2 if
they couldn't bring it inline with CS3's ACR but only could add support for
new cameras people would still complain.
4. There is a work around, download the latest DNG converter program, it is
free and convert your raw images to DNG. This is in my book a good thing
anyways. Just as soon as DNG becomes and ISO standard it will be the safest
raw format available. In other words it will be the most future proof raw
format we will have. Once your files are converted to DNG you can then load
them in to the ACR that comes with CS2.
Myself, I think the mistake Adobe made was not making the camera support a
plug-in for ACR. By doing this they could have simply updated ACR as they
wished giving you the new version with each new version of Photoshop, but
allowed people with the old versions to use new cameras because you would
only have to download new profile plug-ins for new cameras. I don't see new
cameras as being a major reason to upgrade ACR. I see the new features and
improvements made to each new version of ACR more of an upgrade draw than
new camera support. I think Adobe would have lost very little income by
designing ACR to support new cameras by doing plug-ins. I would still have
upgraded from CS2 to CS3.
Of course there is also the new upgrade policy. Photoshop 7 is the oldest
version you can now use to upgrade to Photoshop CS3. If you have a version
older than 7 you have to buy the full Photoshop package, you can't upgrade.
When Photoshop CS4 comes out then CS1 will be the oldest version you can use
to upgrade. So sooner rather than later unless you like to buy full packages
instead of upgrades one is going to have to upgrade anyways.
Myself I would use the DNG converter now and then upgrade Photoshop when CS4
comes out. I figure CS4 is less than a year away.

Is adobe photoshop CS2 compatable with windows 8?

I have removed and re-installed CS2 twice now and still get the same library application error.
DO NOT INSTALL WINDOWS 8 ONTO YOUR COMPUTER IF YOU WANT TO KEEP CS2!
Telling us to spend more money to upgrade our software to meet OS does not show trust to the users. CS2 should be able to work with new OS systems and if not users should be allowed to update their current program for free to be able to use it on the new OS.
    Thank you,

  • Camera Raw 3.8? - Photoshop CS2 useless with Canon G9?

I use Photoshop CS2 with Camera Raw 3.7 and I am very satisfied with it. Now I am thinking of buying a Canon Powershot G9, but I am worried about raw-file support in Camera Raw. I see that Camera Raw 4.3 have support for several new Canon cameras, (not yet G9) but will Camera Raw 3.7 be updated with the new cameras? Otherwise I will feel tricked by Adobe.

ACR 4.3 does support the power shot G9 according to the specs.
There will be no updates for CS2. You are left with two options:
    upgrade to CS3
use the DNG route. DNG 4.3 converter to convert the RAW from G9 to DNG and that will open in CS2 RAW.

  • Is Photoshop CS2 compatible with Mountain Lion

Will Photoshop CS2 currently still installed on my 8 yr old iMac work on a new Mac with O.S. Mountain Lion?

The CS2 version of Photoshop is Power PC code only, It won't work with your new Intel Mac OSX 10.8.2
    I found this:
    Q. Will Adobe update Adobe Creative Suite , Studio 8, or individual applications, such as Photoshop CS, InDesign CS, Illustrator CS, Dreamweaver 8, Flash Professional 8, or After Effects 7.0, to be Universal applications?
    A. No, Adobe does not plan to re-release current products as Universal applications that can run natively on both Intel- and PowerPC-based systems. This applies to Adobe Creative Suite 2 and Studio 8, as well as individual applications such as Photoshop CS2 . . . .

  • Is Adobe Photoshop CS2 compatible with Windows 8.1

I currently have Windows XP and after 10 years have to buy a new computer. I have seen that CS2 works fine on Windows 7 , but now see that Microsoft is discontinuing support for Windows 7 January 2015. Rather then buying a refurbished W7 computer and having ti upgrade in a couple of years, I am thinking of just getting a new W 8.1 computer. Will I be able to install and use my CS2 with a W 8.1 computer? I really cannot afford to buy the new PS and a new computer...I also love my CS2 and have lots of brushes and plug ins that I cannot replace because the companies have gone out of business...

yes, though you may need to use compatibility mode to install.
also, use ps cs2 from here with the posted serial number, Error: Activation Server Unavailable | CS2, Acrobat 7, Audition 3

  • Windows Vista and Photoshop CS2 Compatibility?

I am considering the purchase of a new computer. I have Photoshop CS2, and I am debating whether to get Windows Vista or Windows XP Pro. I have read in the database about Vista and CS2, "Installs and runs with minimal known issues." But it also states under Support for Windows Vista, "not officially." So I am wondering whether anyone has PSCS2 running under Vista, and what kinds of problems you've encountered? Thank you.

I have come across a severe Photoshop CS2 incompatibility with Vista.
One of my printers is an Epson Stylus R310, which prints on both paper and disc. While this model has been on the market for a number of years, many people are still using it, especially those who, like me, have added a continuous-flow ink system to it.
Epson appears to have sat back meekly and allowed Microsoft, whose programming limitations know no bounds, to produce a Vista 'driver' for the R310. Epson even proudly announces on its various international sites that the driver is 'In-box'.
This so-called driver is so poor that Epson has had to release a PDF that shows how to fool the printer into printing to disc when using Epson's own CD Print software under Vista. The Epson XP driver automatically switches the printer dialogue to CD mode, but with the Vista CD workaround the paper mode is retained on screen and it is not until the printer reacts in CD configuration that a user knows that the workaround has worked.
When it comes to Photoshop no workaround seems possible. Print Preview just doesn't work as it does under XP. It is not possible to switch printers, so the target printer has to be made the default so that a preview appears. Otherwise, the user is stuck with the default. In my case, I have used the Photoshop preview box under XP to switch from my default A4/A3 mono laser if I want to use the R310 or my HP 1220. Epson Support's reaction to this situation is that it is up to Photoshop to change.
Problems such as these with the R310 under Vista no doubt apply to many other printers whose Vista drivers carry the dreaded '(M)' in their name.
This leads to a question of my own. I am wondering whether CS3 has tackled this problem of using truncated Microsoft Vista printer drivers with Photoshop. Can anyone enlighten me?

  • Photoshop CS2 and Nikon D200

Does anyone know when Adobe will make Photoshop CS2 compatible with the new Nikon D200? Attempting to get an answer or assistance from Adobe customer service is impossible. Photoshop CS2 CANNOT (will NOT) open Nikon D200 images. I merely get "Could not complete your request because of a program error" message when attempting to open D200 images within Photoshop CS2.

There is a lot of information on this in the Camera Raw forum on this Adobe users site.
The upshot is that they will have it "soon" and the manufacturers do not publish a date.

    Problems with Photoshop CS2
I originally purchased this software several years ago. At time I was running Microsoft Windows XP.
    This computer recently was replaced with a Dell running Windows 8.I reloaded my CS2 on this computer & it ran fine with a few exceptions as follows;
when the software comes up initially I get a message that says “could not complete your request because of program error”. Hitting OK allows me to continue using the software .
When I try to activate a function using CTLR or ALT keys I get this message “required application failed to load and the product cannot continue. Please reinstall the application”. This causes the application to abort.
Reloading my CS2 continues to generate the same messages when I depress the CTLR or ALT keys.

Your original copy is obsolete and Adobe is offering a free replacement you are entitled to. Download and use that and that should clear it up for you.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS2 with Leopard?

Has anyone got experiences with Photoshop CS2 and or InDesign 2.0 and Leopard?
I know, if problems occur there will be no help from Adobe, but how bad might the problems be?
    Any experiences or advices?

I just started running into a new problem while trying to resize fonts in Photoshop CS2. When manually scaling up or down outside of the given size list (6, 8, 9, 10, etc.), the number input field seems to get a little confused and disregards your request. When hitting Enter, it applies a space. Sometimes if I click off and then back onto the input field, and then type my number in it will work about 50% of the time.
Oh yeah, and Photoshop simply crashes from time to time. It doesn't recall having the particular file open that you were just working on, so you essentially never really worked on it. At this point I'm just going to assume this is acceptable program behavior to both Adobe and Apple.

  • Photoshop CS2 crashes when importing with Mustek A3 scanner

First off, yes, I know I have an old version of Photoshop. When I got my new Macbook a year or 2 ago I was only able to scan via TWAIN using Photoshop CS2, and it has been the best way.
However, lately the scanning has been buggy. I've had no problems using PS as a whole, but sometimes when I got to Import < ScanExpress A3 USB 1200 Pro it'll scan halfway and crash, or the program will just outright crash. Today I've spent about 2 hours just trying to scan one image. It managed to work once, and now it crashes every time I try scanning.
These are the specs of what I'm using:
    Mac OSX 10.6.7
    Photoshop CS2
    Mustek ScanExpress A3 USB Pro
Any help is appreciated. I need to use this scanner daily for work - If I can't get these images scanned then I don't get paid!

Perhaps a full uninstall will help. here is the link to the OSX uninstaller and drivers.
    http://www.mustek.com/mustek/supportdrivers.php?&show=drivers&disp_cat=Scanner&disp_sr=USB %20Port&disp_mod=ScanExpress%20A3%20USB%201200%20Pro&disp_catid=18&disp_srid=31&disp_modid =207
Then proceed to reinstall the OSX 10.6 driver for that scanner.

I am using a Photoshop cs2, and I wonder if it is possible to keep the settings of the guidelines when closing an image, with the actual document ? It would be nice to have the guidelines locked down, I find it than when opening the same or another image, the guidelines are not locked, it is annoying to have to lock them down again. and it would actually be nice, to ba able to give specific directions when placing the guidelines. Thanks

Then why are the guides unlocked when I reopen a document that I saved with the guides locked ?
    Thanks.

  • Photoshop CS2: "file not compatible with this version of Photoshop" error

So, I've been working with Photoshop for almost 20 years now, and lately I've been getting this error message on occasion (but not on every file) when I go to open a file I worked on just yesterday: "Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop." I just worked on it yesterday in Photoshop. The file was saved as a PSD, and when I attempt to open it through Painter IX, that program tells me that it's not a Photoshop document. Why can't I open this file anymore, and why is it giving me this error message when I don't have Norton AntiVirus installed, and my 'maximize PSD and PSB file compatibility' is set to 'always'??
Does anyone have an idea on how I can open my file? How can I get around this, and how do I prevent it from happening again?
    OS: OSX 10.4.11
    Photoshop CS2

This is the boilerplate text I use in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that normally, it does work, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please
    cease and desist immediately
in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files.
Working across a network is not supported.
    See:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/322391.html
    Copy the
CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work. It should.
Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does
not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.

    jpg does not support Layers.
Just to make sure, what exactly do you mean by "stacking photos" and what do you want to achieve thereby?

  • Raw Beginner need help with Adobe Photoshop CS2

I am reading Photoshop CS2 for digital photographers by Scott Kelby. I am looking at pg 55 if any one has this book and would like to visually see what I am about to describe. I own Adobe Photoshop CS2 software. After bringing up Adobe bride RAW on my PC, I then see all the settings, Exposure, Shadows, Brightness, Contrast, and Saturation.. Located directly above all of these settings is Auto and Default which you can click on and adjust all settings at the same time. If you don't like what you see you click on Default to go back to the original, you can then make your adjustments individually. In my CS2 book there is an Auto box you can check or un-check beside each setting, Exposure, Shadows, Brightness, and Contrast. My question is how do I get the Auto box beside each setting so I can simply put a check in that box and preview changes individually instead of the Auto and Default on top which changes every setting at the same time? I hope this make since to you, if not I will try to explain again.

Thank you Ramon for your help. I will just be happy with what I have, which works fine but I thought it might be better for me to have the individual Auto check box for each setting. Thank you for the tip to double-click the sliders to reset it to default, it works in CS2 also:) Actually this gives me more control and works out great now that I think about it. I am sure there are more handy little tips I should know about but don't because I am a beginner in learning RAW. Hopefully I'll stumble across a book or some thing over the internet that will help me with my learning curve.
