Photoshop CS2 Raw original is changed
Hi,
First I crop a section of a Raw image and save the crop as .jpg.
When I reload the Raw image it shows the crop with a tint of the original.
How do I restore the original Raw image?

Problems with Photoshop CS2
I originally purchased this software several years ago. At time I was running Microsoft Windows XP.
This computer recently was replaced with a Dell running Windows 8.I reloaded my CS2 on this computer & it ran fine with a few exceptions as follows;
when the software comes up initially I get a message that says “could not complete your request because of program error”. Hitting OK allows me to continue using the software .
When I try to activate a function using CTLR or ALT keys I get this message “required application failed to load and the product cannot continue. Please reinstall the application”. This causes the application to abort.
Reloading my CS2 continues to generate the same messages when I depress the CTLR or ALT keys.Your original copy is obsolete and Adobe is offering a free replacement you are entitled to. Download and use that and that should clear it up for you.

Photoshop CS2 RAW (NEF) Issue
Hi,
My RAW (.NEF) files will not open in Photoshop CS2. Everytime I try to open a raw image it says...
"Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file"
Don't know what to do. CS2 on OSX 10.5.8 with Nikon D90 photos.
I'm going to take a guess here and it has something to do with the Nikon software provided to transfer the photos from the camera/sdhc card?
I'm assuming the software (Nikon Transfer/ViewNX) has overwritten some Adobe plugin or driver?
Anyways, someone please help! I need to edit my photos and this is a pain in the A!
Thanks
Cheers
MikeYour camera needs the Adobe Camera Raw plug-in version 4.6 or 5.xx.
Neither will work with CS2 – you need to upgrade Photoshop or use the DNG converter.

Raw Beginner need help with Adobe Photoshop CS2
I am reading Photoshop CS2 for digital photographers by Scott Kelby. I am looking at pg 55 if any one has this book and would like to visually see what I am about to describe. I own Adobe Photoshop CS2 software. After bringing up Adobe bride RAW on my PC, I then see all the settings, Exposure, Shadows, Brightness, Contrast, and Saturation.. Located directly above all of these settings is Auto and Default which you can click on and adjust all settings at the same time. If you don't like what you see you click on Default to go back to the original, you can then make your adjustments individually. In my CS2 book there is an Auto box you can check or un-check beside each setting, Exposure, Shadows, Brightness, and Contrast. My question is how do I get the Auto box beside each setting so I can simply put a check in that box and preview changes individually instead of the Auto and Default on top which changes every setting at the same time? I hope this make since to you, if not I will try to explain again.
Thank you Ramon for your help. I will just be happy with what I have, which works fine but I thought it might be better for me to have the individual Auto check box for each setting. Thank you for the tip to double-click the sliders to reset it to default, it works in CS2 also:) Actually this gives me more control and works out great now that I think about it. I am sure there are more handy little tips I should know about but don't because I am a beginner in learning RAW. Hopefully I'll stumble across a book or some thing over the internet that will help me with my learning curve.

CAN NOT OPEN CANON EOS20D RAW FILE IN PHOTOSHOP CS2
I had Photoshop CS2 installed on my PC some years ago and could open my raw files from my canon eos 20d. I changed the hard drives in my pc to solid state drives and had to reinstall photoshop cs2. I could not activate photoshop as it was too old a version so I had to download from adobe website with their activation code. Now, I can not open any of my canon eos 20d files. I have taken some now photos just a few days ago and the problem still arises. I get the message that it does not recognise this type of file. Any ideas?
You downloaded, extracted (unzipped) the Camera_Raw_3_7.zip and copied/moved the Camera Raw.8bi to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS2 (windows 64 bit system)

LIghtRoom color problem vs PhotoShop CS2 on Nikon RAW
I recently bought Adobe Lightroom and I was surprised to notice some huge color differences compared to PhotoShop CS2.
Im using Nikon D80 and shooting RAW. I have calibrated semi-pro monitor.
The same RAW file opens in LightRoom pretty well until you get the rendering preview. Once the preview is done, the picture becomes desaturated in red and blue and has a green cast especially in the shadows with much lower contrast. If I use Edit in PhotoShop option, the picture becomes even worse (even more desaturated and greenish) when opens in PhotoShop. If I open the same RAW in PhotoShop directly (using the NEF plug-in, not CameraRaw!) everything is just fine. The picture looks as opened in Nikon Picture Project or as I saw it when I took the picture.
After doing some research, I think that my problem relates to the way that Adobe Camera RAW, Bridge and LightRoom open a Nikon sRGB 4.0.0.3001 (D80) raw file. However, all the things being equal, PhotoShop CS2 (using the NEF plug-in) renders the same colors as Picture Project does (and what I saw on my camera and in reality). I also noticed that choosing sRGB in Camera Raw bring the things closer to the Picture Project colors but far from identical. Anyways, there is no way to change anything in LightRoom, outer than manually twicking all colors until I think it looks good. Which, I think Is very subjective and is different for every picture.
Right now, my Creative Suite Color Settings is North America General Purpose 2 (synchronized for all CS applications) and no application asks me anything about changing the color profile when opening the file. I shoot (with D80) in raw, Normal camera mode (no saturation / contrast, color profile change). I opened the same file in all mentionned applications (LightRoom, CameraRaw from Bridge, PhotoShop and Picture Project) and save them as .jpeg (same size, dpi, etc.) without changing anything (no camera calibration in ACR or LR; no printer profile in PhotoShop). I sent the .jpegs to my local Costco and printed them on glossy paper. All of them printed the same way that they look on the screen. LR, ACR - desaturated on red&blue, color cast on green and low contrast, while great vivid colors and contrast from PhotoShop and Picture Project. For me it looks pretty much as Adobe applications convert Nikon sRGB into a very unappealing Adobe sRGB (and way different from what I saw in reality). I know this is very subjective; some people may argue that Nikon profile is too reddish and oversaturated. But I find the whole story rather unusual. They all work in the sRGB space and there shouldn't be any differences. I've done lot of testing with color profiles and replacing the Camera Raw plugin file format (common files) with Nicon plugins and vice-versa. But still the same result.
I create a User Profile in LightRoom and I get pretty decent colors now, but when I want to edit the file in PhotoShop (from LightRoom) I get the same green and desaturated version.
What do you think?>Regarding LR, what I'm looking here is a "factory made" solution; something that can give consistent results in the initial conversion (like Nikon plugin for PhotoShop, for e.g.)
The problem with that conversion is that you cannot change it. In lightroom you change the actual conversion parameters, which gives you far more leeway and allows for far better conversions in the end. Currently (this will change with Lightroom 2.0 apparently) the only recourse you have if you prefer Nikon's colors is to shoot jpeg, or run your NEFs through capture and create 16-bit tiffs. This is just the way it is. A hammer gives a different result than a screwdriver.
>It's hard for me to believe that Adobe has invested so much energy and resources in color profiling but it's unable to get nearly close to the Nikon raw colors.
Nikon's colors are far from colorimetrically correct which you can see in many tests. Here is an example for the D300: http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/D300/D300IMATEST.HTM It is off in the deep reds, the saturated blues, and the Olive-like colors. Profiling the camera does not help you get close to Nikon's colors, but it will get you closer to the ideal colors. I doubt it has been Adobe's goal to get close to the in-camera rendering with Lightroom upto 1.4. They profile all the cameras and make some value judgments on what is more important. Skin tones vs saturated colors etc just like Nikon does.
Regarding getting close to camera colors, there is a trick that you can do to get close to the camera jpeg that involves the ACR calibration scripts. You do need PS CS3 though.
>I find rather strange that apparently there is no way to get professional conversion. This is defying the main purpose of Color Profiling, I think.
Why is Nikon's conversion professional and Adobe's not? They are both just interpretations of the sensor data. Adobe's is actually colorimetrically more correct in many cases. Colorimetrically correct often means boring unfortunately. This has to do with the fact that our eyes are not color measurement devices but that we have brains interpreting the data. To get pleasing results, Color Profiling does not help as much as you'd like. My issue with the in-camera or Nikon software approach is that it locks you down creatively to the
creative choices the Nikon folks made. Now, be aware that in the Lightroom 2.0 forum the Adobe folks have hinted at major changes to the rendering engine that will bring colors closer to the vendor rendering. How they will do this is unknown right now. -
Olympus E-3 and Photoshop CS2 .ORF Raw Files
I've recently purchased an Olympus E-3 (previously owned E-330). I use CS2 and Windows XP Media. I am new to shooting RAW images and just got back from a trip where I shot RAW (.ORF) images.
I updated my DNG converter and Camera Raw to 3.7 (as that is the highest level supported by CS2). The list of supported cameras include the E-3. But I still get the error message that it can't complete your request because it is not the right kind of document.
I try to use the DNG Converter and get a message there was an error parsing the image.
What am I not understanding? Since the E-3 should be supported in Camera Raw, why am I getting this error message? I really enjoy the flexibility of photoshop Camera Raw and wish to continue.
What is the best and easiest way to open these files in Photoshop? I am stuck with a ton of .ORF images that I cannot open. Please help!I am now assuming ACR is the the same as Camera Raw (and please correct me if I am wrong). But I have tried the latest DNG converter 4.5 and Camera Raw 3.7 in my Common Files/plug ins folder.
>The way you phrase this seems to indicate that you somehow try to open the files directly "using" the DNG converter. You have to convert them first, so that you have two sets of files, one .ORF and one .DNG.
I tried going through bridge to open in camera raw and it is dimmed. I tried double clicking on the .orf file and get the original "not the right kind of document error". How to you "convert them first" as mentioned in the quote above.
Before all I had to do was double click on the .orf file and Camera Raw opened or I just used Adobe Bridge and double clicked. What steps should I follow now?
Again any assistance would be greatly appreciated -
Using LR2 w/ Photoshop CS2 and Camera Raw 3.7
I am using Photoshop CS2 and Camera Raw 3.7 on a Mac G4, OS X 10.4.11.
I am about to install my upgrade to Lightroom 2. Is this a bad idea?
I have read about some compatibility issues re Camera Raw, and I have also read about how to solve the issue of exporting the keywords.
Will this keyword issue fix work on my system?
What are the real-world practical implications of still having Camera Raw 3.7? I usually adjust images in Lightroom, then any further adjustment is done in Photoshop (not CR). So is the only downside going to be that if I revisit the image in Camera Raw, the adjustments will not show up? Or will it also not show up in Bridge?? And if it is only in CR, is it that the image does not have the adjustments; or does it show the adjusted image, but has just all the sliders zeroed out?
I am hot to install LR2, but I want to make sure that I am not going to open a can of worms. And yes, I could buy PS CS4 (which would get me CR 4.5), and I would like to, but I don't have a G5. And I cannot afford to buy a new desktop computer right now.
Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Dean Abramson>so is the LR version of RAW as good as the one in CS3?
It's far better as it has local adjustments and such. Lightroom is more equivalent to the ACR in CS4. To make changes you make to images in ACR outside Lightroom show up in Lightroom, you need to sync the metadata. ACR does not write the changes to RAW images to the Lightroom database, but it writes it into xmp sidecars either right next to the RAW file or embedded into it. So Lightroom has no idea you did anything until you specifically ask it to check for updated metadata.
Note that trying to work with both bridge/ACR and Lightroom on the same set of data will inevitably make you lose data or edits at some point as you're dealing with a synchronization issue, so be careful. -
"Use RAW files with external editor" greyed out for Photoshop CS2?
I've just upgraded from iPhoto 5, and the "Use RAW files with external editor" option in the advanced preferences is greyed out when I select Photoshop CS2 as my external editor (back in the General pane).
It works fine when Preview.app is selected. I can understand that pre-CS2 Photoshop wouldn't be available, but CS2 is capable of editing RAW images.
Has anyone been able to get iPhoto 6 to send a RAW image to Photoshop CS2 using this preference? I've written an Applescript to do it in iPhoto 5, but I'd rather use something cleaner...
15" PowerBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.4)Works great with Photoshop Elements, opens with Camera Raw. The issue is you can't save it so that iPhoto gets the changes.
You have to save it and then re-import. I tried all permutations of saving it in originals and modified folders in the library. No luck. The only thing I didn't try is to save it as a jpeg over the top of the full sized one iPhoto created on import. -
Using Adobe Photoshop CS2 version 9 and have updated it, but when stacking photos, it comes up with PSD, whereas I want Jpeg, and I change the format to Jpeg and the box then comes up with cannot save as there is a program error. Be very grateful for help with this, please.
jpg does not support Layers.
Just to make sure, what exactly do you mean by "stacking photos" and what do you want to achieve thereby? -
I have Photoshop CS2 but my computer crashed on me which means I lost it..when I try to download it from adobe web site it stops at 173/340...is there anyway I can use my original CD and then use a different serial number
No, you have the web site version because this applies:
Error: Activation Server Unavailable | CS2, Acrobat 7, Audition 3
The rest we cannot know. You have not provided any system information or details like what browser you use, so nobody can help you with your technical issues.

What camera raw plugin for Photoshop CS2 + Canon Rebel T21
I still have the excellent Photoshop CS2 and bought a Canon EOS Rebel T2i. However, the raw files come up in Bridge without picture preview. The file is a CR2 file. When double-clicked, Photoshop 2 opens and gives error dialog:
"Could not complete request because not right kind of document."
I see that version 5.7 and 6.1 of Adobe Camera Raw Plug in are compatible with this camera. Can I use either plug in with Photoshop 2?Congratulations on your decision to move up to Photoshop CS5. It's a good product.
I'm not sure exactly what you mean by your question, though...
In my own case, I have .CR2 files associated with a program called Irfan View so that when I double click a .CR2 file it opens immediately in this very fast image viewer program. All .CR2 files have embedded JPEG previews, and I can view these embedded JPEGs from my raw files instantaneously with Irfan View.
While using Explorer, if I want to open an image file with Photoshop (i.e., to do an actual raw conversion), I either drag the file and drop it on a desktop Photoshop icon -or- I right-click the file and choose Open With - Adobe Photoshop CS5.
Multiple versions of Photoshop will live happily side by side on the same system. You just can only run one of them at a time.
Most folks recommend leaving older versions of Photoshop installed. This allows you access to the version you're familiar with so that you can go back and check settings, save actions, etc. and it does provide you a backup editor if something should go wrong with the new one.
Assuming you have the disk space, you never really need to uninstall an older version of Photoshop, and in fact uninstalling Photoshop after installing a newer version is reported to cause problems in some cases.

Camera Raw 4.0 unusable in Photoshop CS2
If you have Photoshop CS2 and you download the latest RAW 4.0 update, forget about opening any RAW files from cameras produced in the past year and a half or so. As a clever marketing move Adobe has disabled all functionality for RAW cameras once covered under RAW versions 3.0 through 3.7 when using the RAW version 4.0 in Photoshop CS2. Why would they do that, you ask? To sell more software, of course!
The RAW 4.0 update adds only the Panasonic DMC-FZ8, a camera that I recently purchased. But, if I want to view RAW files from this camera I have to upgrade to Photoshop CS3 or buy Lightroom 1.0, and that is exactly what Adobe is hoping. Suddenly my Photoshop CS2 program has become obsolete because in addition I can no longer open RAW files from my Nikon D200. What is so difficult about making the RAW 4.0 plug-in compatible with other more recent Photoshop programs? Absolutely nothing! Adobe cares more about selling new software than they do about customer loyalty. Such a marketing practice is unfortunate and, in my mind, reflects poorly on Adobe's business ethics."I think a nice compromise to the ACR things is to design the next full version of upgrade of ACR (in this case 4.0) so that it will work with the last version of Adobe Photoshop (in this case CS2)."
Yeah, ok, here's the problem with that...Mac CS2 required 10.3.9 or above...Win CS2 required Win 2K or XP/SP2...Photoshop CS3 (and Camera Raw 4.0) requires Mac 10.4.8 and Win, XP/SP2 or Vista.
So, you code to the latest APIs of the system (10.4.x, XP/SP2 or Vista) and you are supposed to magically make a plug-in work on older APIs of the previous version of Photoshop? Even though, to progress and advance (and hopefully optimize) you commit to using the new APIs. So, how ya gonna make Camera Raw 4.0 work in Photoshop CS2-disable it for 10.3.9 and Win 2K? Forget about using new API's and suffer through the old ones?
So, you say, well, just keep updating Camera Raw 3.x...ok, for how long? Forever? For 1 quarter? For a year?
So, you got the Camera Raw engineering team (3 guys) taking time away from Camera Raw 4 to re-write code for Camera Raw 3 for cameras that weren't even sold when Camera Raw 3.x shipped...you ok with that? You realize that it will drain resources from new products with new features, but that's ok. . .you want Adobe to support old products even though they no longer sell them.
I suppose in a perfect world, that would be ok. But as a user of the current Photoshop CS3 and Camera Raw 4, I would want the engineers to be concentrating their time and energy working on what they ARE selling right now. Adding new cameras to Camera Raw 4. Adding new functionality to Camera Raw 4.
People have a pretty skewed view of software, IMHO. They drop down bucks for HARDWARE and expect the software to be upgraded forever, for free. There's just as much value in intangible personal property (software) as there is in tangible personal property (hardware). And...it ain't like these shiny new cameras don't come with the camera maker's software...and Adobe STILL provides support for new cameras in old versions via DNG...which, BTW is free...
Big ol' bad Adobe, out there trying to screw their customers...I don't think so. They bend over backwards to do the right things, but of course, to some people, even that's not enough. -
