Photoshop CS2 requires repeat activation

After three years of use, my installation of CS2 has started warning me that the 30 days period for activation has expired and I will need to activate before I can continue to use Photoshop. I have had to re-activate around 8 times now, but activation does not last. After a while, it will not load without yet another activation.
Does anybody know what is happening, and have a fix for this, short of uninstalling and re-installing Photoshop,?
I am using Windows XP2 Home, SP2
Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 @ 3.0 GHz
OCZ 4056MB DDR2 PC7200,
Sparkle GeForce 7950 GT 512MB GDDR3 PCI-Express,

Peter,
Given that you said you have been running a RAID configuration for a 3 years with no CS2 problems, I'm inclined to agree with Rob and Dave about the registry cleaner being the likely culprit. Either that or something may strangely be deleting one of the activation records.
Are you familiar with using the Registry Editor, invoked by entering "regedit" from the Run dialog? If so, here is what I suggest you do while your system is activated:
1. Launch REGEDIT
2. Navigate down the left pane of the Registry Editor to each of the following registry keys (they look like folders). For each, right-click on it and select "Export", and provide a file name. If I anticipate multiple exports as will occur here, I use names such as "pscs2a.reg", "pscs2b.reg", etc. and save them all in a common folder.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe Systems\Common Install\Shared Service\B2B86000]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe Systems\Licenses\Adobe LM Service]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\ALM\B2B86000]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{236BB7C4-4419-42F D-0409-1E257A25E34D}]
[HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1202660629-1336601894-839522115-1003\Software\Adobe\ALM\B2B86000]
Note, that last key may not be identical on your PC as on mine, so you might just browse to the [HKEY_USERS] branch and then perform a search on "B2B86000", and export the key associated with the found data.
3. Close REGEDIT
4. Browse in Windows Explorer to the following location:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe Systems\Product licenses
5. Make a copy of the file named B2B86000.dat, perhaps saving it to the same folder as the exported registry keys. This is one of the critical activation hashes for PS CS2; another is in a hidden area of the hard drive boot sector, hence why RAID configurations are at risk of causing problems.
You may not need all the keys identified, but I'm just trying to cover the most likely ones. Some clearly contain activation status information that, if corrupted, might result in the problems you're seeing. In any case, the idea here is that you're creating backup copies of those registry keys and the activation hash.
Now, if another time arises when you're prompted to reactivate, first confirm whether or not the B2B86000.dat file exists in Product Licenses folder of Step 4. If not, restore an instance of it from the copy you made and then launch PS CS2 again to see if the reactivation is prompted. If not, you've solved the question of what is being affected, but you'll still have to try and figure out how; I can't help with that part.
If the B2B86000.dat file is intact, then try restoring the registry keys, perhaps even doing so one at a time with test launches of PS CS2 after each key is restored. Double-clicking the file will prompt whether or not to merge the file into the Windows Registry, so you simply choose "Yes". If you incrementally restore those keys and find that after one of them PS CS2 launches without the activation prompt, then you will know that key and perhaps the ones preceding it, were all needed. At that point, you then would likely need to explore whether your registry cleaner is deleting any of those keys.
Hope that helps,
Daryl

  • Photoshop CS2 on Win7 Activation Server no longer available as CS2 not supported

My XP PC died and was replaced by Win7 Laptop.  Loaded my legitimate Photoshop CS2 software, but Activation Server no longer available as CS2 not supported any more.  Need to run my CS2, so how do I make this happen?

As for the Activation Server please read this

As for whether CS2 and Windows 7 play nice I don’t know, what with being a Mac user …

  • Photoshop (CS2) asks for activation, completes, then exits after popup

I am using the Adobe Creative Suite 2. Photoshop is version 9.0.
I open Photoshop and here is the first pop-up I see:
    http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q161/eXar7331/Misc/1st.jpg
It says: "The license configuration data for Adobe Creative Suite is no longer usable. Click OK to continue."
I click OK and this is what I see next:
    http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q161/eXar7331/Misc/2nd.jpg
It's the activation window (do note I already have activated after the install)
So I activate, and it says thank you... as you can see here:
    http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q161/eXar7331/Misc/3rd.jpg
Then immediately after activation, I get this pop up:
    http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q161/eXar7331/Misc/4th.jpg3
It says "An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format."
I click OK then I get another pop up:
    http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q161/eXar7331/Misc/5th.jpg
It says "Could not complete your request because of a program error."
I click OK and nothing happens. But if I click on ANY tool or function within Photoshop, I will get the last pop up which is:
    http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q161/eXar7331/Misc/6th.jpg
It says, "A required application library failed to load and the product cannot continue. Please reinstall the application."
Then Photoshop closes, and I begin to weep.
So it asks me to activate, even though I have already activated it successfully. Then it tells me to reinstall even though I've already reinstalled twice now. I don't know what to do. The only thing I've changed on my computer recently is I've added fonts that I downloaded from a public website. Now my PS is screwed. Anyone?

You've been having complete, show-stopping problems for 22 days, and you haven't called Adobe Customer Support for help?

  • Cannot install paid versions of Photoshop CS2 or CS3 on OSX 10.8.5

Over the past 10 years or more, I have purchased Adobe Photoshop several times - including CS2 & CS3.  I purchased a new MacBook Pro running OSX 10.8.5 and am not able to install any of them.

    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/system-requirements-photoshop.html
Photoshop CS2 requires an older PowerPC based Mac. It will not install or run on new Intel-based Macs, regardless of operating system.
Photoshop CS3 is supported on Intel-based Macs but only on OSX 10.4.8 - 10.5 (Leopard).
If your Photoshop CS3 is a standalone version (not part of a Suite) then you are eligible to sign up for the new Photoshop Photography Program at $9.99/month

  • Trying to nstall Photoshop CS2 on a new PC with Windows 8.1? Adobe uploaded me a version that doesn't require activation, but it doesn't work!

Trying to Install Photoshop CS2, which I bought several years ago, on a new computer with Windows 8.1? Adobe uploaded me a version that it says doesn't require activation, but it doesn't work!

Your advice to use the serial number provided by Adobe is right on point.
The only thing special I've done that's not typical is that I have UAC disabled, which does serve to make a system more compatible with older software (and with old geeks like me who prefer to be full-time admins).
When I installed Photoshop CS2, it just went in and worked.  I didn't think twice about it.

  • Photoshop cs2 activation

it seems that adobe wants people to by there over priced products at every upgrade. because i was unable to deactivate my pscs2 be for doing a system restore ia'm now unable to reactivate the program. i successfuly transfered the software from a win xp computer to a win 7 computer and had it work great for six years, adobe tech support claims if will only work on win xp & vista. anyone out there now of a solution?

Adobe decommissioned the CS2 activation server but provided a free solution:
You have to download a special version of CS2 that does not require activation but needs the new serial number they also provide.
Google "download adobe Photoshop CS2"  if the following link doesn't give you access immediately:

  • Photoshop CS2 Activation Problem

    Hello
I'm trying to install Photoshop CS2 for a client, but when I launch the application I get the error: "An error has been detected and activation cannot continue. Please restart your computer and reinstall the application"
I've already done the obvious thing to reboot and re-install the application with the same error. I tried deleting temporary files to no avail. Is there any other solution I should try before I re-image the machine?
I've uploaded a screen shot of the error here: http://tinyurl.com/6rew36
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I'm getting this same error message "An error has been detected with a required application library ...". I have used my CS2 for the last 3 years with no issues. I've un-installed and re-installed 4 times to no avail. Is there really no fix? That seems pretty incredible that no one has found a solution.
Anybody been able to resolve? Is it as simple as disabling the firewall & antivirus?
    Thanks for the help,
    Wes.

  • Adobe photoshop cs2 activation

Hi, I have original Adobe photoshop cs 2 product with key, but when I am trying to activate, appear error: activation server is not available at this time. Could you help me ?

Bit behind the times aren't we.
Download the full suite here - perfectly legal if you already have a licence, and no need to activate

The activation server for CS2 is now permanently closed I believe.

  • Photoshop CS2 activation issues

I recently had to purchase a new hard drive for my computer and had to reinstall my copy of Photoshop CS2.  It will not activate or allow me to use it.  The Adobe website shows the product is registered to me...so I see no reason for all this trouble.  I have spend hours trying to reinstall from the original CD as well as trying from the Adobe website.  I am currently one frustrated person who is VERY upset with Adobe at this point.  If this is their way of telling me to buy a newer version of their product - it will NEVER happen.
Any usable input would be greatly appreciated.  This is certainly holding up my photo work.  Thank you in advance!!

The activation servers for all CS2 applications are gone now, but Adobe has made activation free versions of the CS2 apps available here, http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/creative-suite-2-activation-end-life.htm l.

  • Photoshop CS2 un-installed and re-installed without de-activavtion. Activation window refuses to procede.

? Photoshop CS2 on Windows Vista. On start-up PS refuses access. Decided to un-install and re-install, unfortunately not thinking of de-activation. Now, on start-up, window offers registration which always fails. I am not offered help>de-activation, or help>transfer activation. Help>Adobe Forum!

Did you use the right serial number? The windows download is 348MB the Mac download is 441MB If your was 380MB there may be a problem with what you downloaded... If you can not get it to install you may have to contact Adobe customer Support. However CS2 is no longer suppoorted.

I am reloading Photoshop CS2 and I can't get it activated. How is this to be done?

The activation servers are retired and so your old CS2 copy and serial number no longer work.
Adobe has non-activated Photoshop CS2 and a new serial number to go with it only for CS-CS2 owners.
    Get this here at:
    https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/entitlement/index.cfm?pid=4485850&e=cs2_downloads

    Hi Adam,
The activation server for CS2 products is no longer available. You need to download and use the serial number from the below article.

  • Same Photoshop CS2 activation issue with new installer also.

Dear Adobe support team, we have downloaded the Photoshop cs2 from the link http://www.adobe.com/downloads/cs2_downloads/index.html. As per your suggestion I un-installed the older version and installed new version and tried to activate the product. But I have failed to activate as per your instruction. I want to get rid of activation message. Kindly also let us know what all do we have to un-install before the fresh installation.

    Thanks for your support.
We are able to active CS2 in administration login. Now there is no activation message.
Now there is a different message window popping up. Every time I launch Photoshop CS2, the adobe updater message is popping up. I am not able to take screen shot of the window. We tried deactivating this in msconfig options but no success.
