Photoshop CS2 won't save files in JPEG format

I have Windows Vista and am using Photoshop CS2 Version 9.
Until today everything was working fine, but there are two problems.
1. Only today I have a limited amount of formats to save a .PSD file in:
PSD, CIN, PDF, RAW, PNG, and TIFF.
Whereas if I want to save a JPEG file per say as another format, I get the full list to choose from.
2. If I choose a layer on an image, not all the filters show up that I can run it through. The 'Artistic, Brush Strokes, Pixelate, Sketch, and Stylize' are not clickable.
Thank you.

You slipped into 16 bit mode. Try going back to 8 bit.

  • Photoshop CC won't save files after update

i just let Adobe do an update to photoshop CC last night, and now this morning, when i go to create files and save them for use in premiere CC, they don't save. i click save, save as, ctrl+S, they just don't do anything. they don't bring up the save window or anything. the only way i can save something is using the "save for web" option and that's not the best option for me right now. is this something that got broken in the CC update?

It looks to be system specific.

  • Photoshop CS3 won't save files as ".png"?

I have the same problem as the creator of this thread...
    http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080417004746AAjYbui
...except, his solution did not work for me. In Adobe Photoshop CS3 for Mac, I cannot "Save For Web". The button is there, but it is disabled for some reason...
I have the image in RGB Mode as everyone says it should, and have kept it in 8bt resolution. I can save everything as ".psd", ".jpg", and many other files - but not ".png". It simply does not appear in the drop-down menu when I select "File - Save As".
Also, people have mentioned an "Alpha layer" or "Alpha channel", but I do not know what those are.
Please advise on how I can fix this without having to reinstall, if possible.
    Thanks!

Check the bit depth and color mode of the document.
And check that the plugins are installed.

  • I have used Image Capture to scan images/documents and then saved them as either PDFs or PNG files.  For some reason, just this past week Image Capture will no longer save the file.  It scans, and the Scan Results window pops up, but it won't save file.

I have used Image Capture to scan images/documents and then saved them as either PDFs or PNG files.  For some reason, just this past week, Image Capture will no longer save the file.  It scans, and the Scan Results window pops up, but it won't save file.
The file name has no special character in it, just letters and no spaces.
I have done this in the past and it has worked, but now it will not.
I have not upgraded any software, that I am aware of.
After scanning, the Image Capture pops up the Scan Results with the file name in the window, but neither the Scan Results nor the Image Capture window responds to inputs.  The Image Capture window is frozen, with only the "Overview" and "Cancel" buttons active (but non-responsive).
Is this a software issue or a scanner hardware issue?  I am using a HP Photosmart C6200 series printer/scanner on a network using a Time Capsule airport.
    Thanks.

    I had the same problem.
Got a 90% fix.  Apparently the Mavericks preferences won't work with Yosemite, so I just deleted the Image Capture preferences.
Unfortunately, the "Scan to" folder seems to be permanently set to the Pictures folder.
    1.  Quit Image Capture
    2.  Go to Finder > Go > Home, which opens up your home folder (named after your user name)
    3.  Open Library > Preferences > com.apple.ImageCapture.plist - Drag this file to the Trash
    4.  Start "Image Capture", click "Details" and change all your settings as you prefer
    5.  Quit and restart "Image Capture".   Notice it remembers all your settings except "Scan to" folder.  It insists on saving to "Pictures".
That's as far as I was successful.  I tried changing the "Scan to" folder to "Desktop", but on launch, Image Capture always sets it back to "Pictures".
    This is what I tried:
    6.  Download and install "Pref Setter" from http://www.nightproductions.net/prefsetter.html
    7.  Quit "Image Capture".  Right-click on "com.apple.ImageCapture.plist" and open with Pref Setter.
    8.  Search for "Pictures", which finds "~/Pictures" (the tilde character at the start means your home directory).
    9.  Double-click on "~/Pictures" and change it to the folder you prefer.  I like "~/Desktop"
    10. Choose File > Save then Quit from Pref Setter.  Note that re-opening the plist file still shows "~/Desktop"
    11. Start up "Image Capture" -- on startup, "Image Capture" sets "Scan to" folder to "Pictures"
    I consider this a bug.

  • Numbers 3.0 won't save files!

Numbers 3.0 suddenly won't save files on my Macbook Pro.
I opened a .csv file, made some changes in Numbers, and tried to Save to my desktop.  I get a window that says "The file '[filename].numbers' couldn't be opened".
I tried to Export to a .xls file, and also Share>Send a Copy>Email and chose Excel as the option.  Same message about not being able to open the file.
This makes Numbers totally unusable for me.  And for some reason, the old version of Numbers is suddly gone, so no fallback there anymore.
    Any tips?

And for some reason, the old version of Numbers is suddly gone, so no fallback there anymore.
    Hi Oslo,
Numbers 3 exports to Excel fine on my machine, though it uses the extension .xlsx not .xls.
    Same with Share>Send a Copy>Email. Works fine.
So maybe you should try closing Numbers 3 and reopening it, or restarting your Mac.
Your old version of Numbers should still be on your Mac, in a subfolder within Applications named iWork '09 or similar.

  • 'Save As' to JPEG format (or to TIFF)

The 'Save As' command produces 20 different file format options to choose from. When 'saving as' to the default PSD format, the selection is obviously quick and easy. However I mostly 'save as' to JPEG format or TIFF format and it is awkward to make the JPEG or TIFF format selections each time.
After doing 'Save As', I have been clicking on 'Format' and then typing 'j' or 'ti' to bring up JPEG or TIFF from the menu of 20 formats to speed up the selection a little bit as compared to scrolling through the Format menu.
But it would be much easier to have a script that could bring up a modified version of the "Save As" dialogue box so that 'Save As' to JPEG format or 'Save As' to TIFF format could be executed very efficiently and without having to wade through the clutter of the 17 other file formats in the Format menu which I hardly ever use.
I have done a fair amount of web searching, including on ps-scripts.com, but so far without finding a good solution to this. Any help would be much appreciated.
Of course I have thought of creating an Action (with assigned keyboard shortcut) which saves to JPEG and another Action which saves to TIFF. However, the saved file then always ends up in one location and with the same file name, therefore often requiring the additional steps of renaming and moving the file.
Batch processing of Actions (perhaps in conjunction with the Image Processor script) is perfect for batches, especially for large batches but I was hoping for something quick and easy for saving files individually.
    Thanks!
    Geoff
P.S. I also tried finding a way of disabling all the 'Save As' file formats which I never use so that the 'Save As' format choices would be very few (i.e. 3 or 4 instead of 20) but have had no success there.

It's been awhile since I played with the saveAs function.
Pretty sure you have to type the file name in the save dialog
Here is a function I created for work.
I removed a lot of code from it that doesn’t pertain to this topic but the code should work
This might help you with a little more understanding and show how you can hard code where to save without even bringing up a dialog box
saveAsPNG( filelocation + filename )// usage
    function saveAsPNG( where ){
                   var tmpFile = File(where + '.png' );
                   var pngOpts = new ExportOptionsSaveForWeb;
                        pngOpts.format = SaveDocumentType.PNG
                   //     pngOpts.PNG8 = true;
                        pngOpts.transparency = true;
                   //     pngOpts.interlaced = false;
                        pngOpts.quality = 100;
                   app.activeDocument.exportDocument(tmpFile,ExportType.SAVEFORWEB,pngOpts);
              return true;

Help!  I have Photoshop CS4.  I have had trouble in the past with photoshop not recognizing my raw files from Nikon (NEF).  Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't.  Now I can't get PS to save any file, jpeg or ps.  Can anyone help me please?

Please read this FAQ for advice on how to ask your questions correctly for quicker and better answers:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/419981?tstart=0
    • What exact version of Ps CS4 are you using?  11.0.2?
    • Exact version of the OS?
    • You are not working over a network, are you?
    • Have you tried creating a fresh, new account and logging in as a different user?
    • Have you Repaired Permissions with Apple's Disk Utility?
    • Check the read and write permissions on the folder(s) and volume(s) to which you are attempting to save.
This is the boilerplate text often used in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that normally, it does work, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please cease and desist immediately in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files. Working across a network is not supported.
    See:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406793.html
Copy the CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work.   It should.
Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.

  • CS2 won't save jpg since LR2.7 has been installed

    Hi folks,
A few weeks ago I purchased LR 2.7 (and don't regret it for a minute!). Since then my CS2 has developed some funny habits, though, and won't save any  photos as jpg that have first been worked on in LR. The error I get is "Cannot save due to program error". I assume that CS2 (antiques, I know...) is not really compatible with LR 2.7. But at the moment I have to make do with exporting first from LR and then opening it again in CS2 if I need to go on there. Everything works fine that far but after all the work I put into the thing CS2 just won't play. No problem saving as psd file. And I have created a 'workaround' to save my efforts after all, pasting it into a new document in CS2. No problem saving then. But it seems rather strange to me.
I work with an XP PC with loads of space & an external harddisk, a dual core quad processor and 4GB RAM. The original photos are taken in RAW.
Anybody who can give me an idea why my CS2 is having these fits of jealousy since it got competition from LR?
    Thanks and grts

    Hi Victoria,
Thanks for the very prompt reply!
And yes, I indeed did use the adjustment brush in all the obstinate cases. I
think that I'll go for Jeffrey's for the time being and wait for my purse to
fatten up a bit to get the CS upgrade which I was planning anyway. Thanks a
    lot for your help

I'll bet you've used the adjustment brush or graduated filter?  There's a
CS2 bug that falls over that perfectly legitimate metadata.  Your options
    are:
    >
        •    Upgrade to CS3 or later.  (While we’re on the subject of CS2 and
upgrades, CS5 is the last upgrade that CS2 users can buy at an upgrade
price.  Once CS6 is available, CS2 users will have to pay the full price to
upgrade, as only the previous 3 releases qualify for the discounted upgrade
    pricing.)
        •    Check the ‘Minimize Embedded Metadata’ checkbox in the Lightroom
Export dialog, which will strip ALL of the metadata.  It solves the problem,
but leaves you short of any metadata in your files.
        •    Use Jeffrey’s Metadata Wrangler to strip just the problem metadata
from the file, which is by far the best option.
    >
To use Jeffrey’s Metadata Wrangler Export plug-in, you’ll first need to
download it and install the plug-in from
    http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/metadata-wrangler
    >
Select the plug-in in the lower left of the Export dialog, and you’ll see
the additional section appear in the main Export options panel — scroll down
    if you can’t see them.
    >
The only part you need to remove is the ‘crs’ block -– all of the rest of
the metadata can stay.  The ‘crs’ block is the Camera Raw Settings metadata,
better known as the Develop settings, and photos exported with that block
removed will quite happily save as a JPEG, even with Photoshop CS2.

  • QT won't save movies, exported jpegs won't open.

I am running the latest version of QT pro on my PC, windows XP. When editing a movie clip, I can edit to my heart's content, but when I go to save it, QT won't save it. It acts like it saves, but it doesn't.
Also, when I export a movie to picture, the resulting image is useless. Photohop can't open it. Windows Picture and Fax Viewer can't open it...nothing works. In Windows Picure and Fax viewer (for the jpeg), I get the error message, "No review available." In photoshop (for the jpeg), the error message is: "Could not complete your request because an unknown or invalid jpeg marker is found." When I try to open the pct file in Photoshop, it says," Could not complete your request beause the PICT file is too complex to open on this computer. Photoahop Windows supports raster PICT files only." I have a GIG of ram and the PICT file is only 65 KB. I have tried using various joeg settings, exporting as a PNG file... nothing works. What's up?
I bought Quicktime speciically for these two functions, and neither one of them works. I have Quicktime on a mac at home and it works fine.
Any help would be hugely appreciated!

Looks like the update has wreaked havoc (who uses that expression nowadays, anyway?) on your PRAM settings. You can try and reset them:  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

  • Adobe Stock Photos Stuck in Trash and Photoshop CS2 won't run!

Okay, I apparently did something stupid. I'm not even sure how this happened, but I realized that Adobe Stock Photos folder was sitting on my desktop (I'm using OS X 10.5.6). I don't know when this happened and I didn't think I needed it so I dragged it to the trash. NOW I cannot run any of my Adobe software (includes Photoshop CS2, Illustrator CS2 and GoLive CS2).
I can see the folder sitting in my trash, but it won't let me drag it back out. So, just as a test, I tried dragging out the one other file (.jpg) and I can't get that one either. I know this isn't a Mac forum, but I'm desparate and cannot find anything to help me.
Probably I am going to have to reinstall everything and (of course) I can't find my CDs!!! Please don't get angry if I'm asking the wrong question. I've done an internet search and I cannot find any solutions.
    Thanks, Anne

Adobe stock photos does not even exist anymore.
Have you tried deleting your trash? I have no Adobe stock Photos on my computer and everything works. try restarting the computer.

  • Photoshop CS6.1 Cannot save file as .tif-program insists on .pdf

On Mac Pro using OS X attempt to save completed file as .tif.  Photoshop insists on saving it as a .pdf.  None of the format shown in "Format" field link up with actual extension.

Hi. I have used the PS CS6 trial and an Epson v500 scanner to scan a 6 by 4 image at 6400 dpi using File => Import => From image device. The file was saved as a pdf and opened automatically in CS6. I was satisfied with the image and wanted to save it as a something other than a pdf since pdf is not really a widely accepted image format for archiving. The image size came out to ~ 6 GB. I went to Save As and the only options I see from the save as format drop down box were PSD, TIFF, and PS Raw. I tried Tiff, but it told me it cant save files past 4 GB. IM not interested in the other 2 formats it allowed me to save as. Any ideas? Why cant I save as a JPEG or BMP when something ahs been scanned as a PDF?
As for plugins, I downloaded the official PS CS6 Mac plugins and placed them in the appropriate plugins folder.
Are there file size limitations with respect to saving a copy when you have opened a file as a pdf?
Its not that there is anything wrong with the pdf format, its just that I cannot use the scanner plugin for importing an image from PS6 to save as a Tiff or JPEG under 6400 dpi and 48 bpp settings (this problem was discussed ina nother thread).
    Any ideas?

  • Can photoshop 9 change multiple tif files to jpeg

I have muliple files saved in .tif and need to change them to jpeg. Is there a way using photoshop 9 to change multiple files from .tiff to .jpeg so they can be uploaded to a website? If so what are the steps to change the extensions?
    Thanks in advance

Sure. If you're using the windows organizer, just select the photos there and go to File>Export and you'll see what to do. Medium is usually a good enough quality for the web.
If you don't use organizer or you're on a mac, go to Editor>File>Process Multiple Files and point to the folder where your originals are. (If you have photos in both portrait and landscape orientation, you'll need to split them into two groups.)
However having said all that, save for web in the editor makes the smallest files (it removes the EXIF information), but you can only do one at a time that way.

  • Word 2007 won't save files with Acrobat Pro 9.0 Installed

Last night an issue started occurring while trying to save a document in MS Word 2007 (part of an Office Ultimate install).  After about 10 hours of trying several suggestions from a variety of forums and MS suggestions I found that the only time I cannot save a file by traditional means is when Acrobat is installed.  I tried updating Acrobate and had the same thing happen.  MS says all that's left for me to do is get an answer from Adobe (I have to wonder if it's a copout).
    Steps taken so far:
Disabled the PDF add-in - still unable to save Word files
Removed PDF add-in - still unable to save Word files
Removed entire CS4 suite - Word was able to properly save files
Installed only the parts of the suite that I use frequently (Photoshop, Soundbooth, Premiere, Acrobat) - unable to save Word files
Removed Acrobat Pro 9.0 - Word saves files properly again
When I say it will not save a file I've tried the keyboard shortcuts for Save/Save As, Choosing the Save/Save As from drop down, and even attempted to save by closing the document.  When prompted with the option to save changes I say yes and nothing will happen, I have to close the document with nothing saved.
I hate the idea of reinstalling Acrobat each time I need to use it to keep Word functional.  I've seen a ton of threads on other forums related to this issue.  Has anybody else seen this or know about a fix/work around?  Any help is appreciated.  Please let me know if additional detail is necessary.
The operating system for the affected computer is Windows 7 32-bit.

I installed each update individually (6 of them) and rebooted after each update.  Opened Word and attempted to save a document (after each update/reboot), the documents still cannot be saved (previously created documents still cannot have new detail saved).
Decided to delete the Office folder in the following path: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\PDFMaker\Office
Opened up word and Acrobat went through an installation processes, to replace what was removed I assume.  After this was done I attempted to save a document and was still unable to do so.  Went back and deleted that Office folder in the above path again.  When opening Word this time I cancelled the installation process that Adobe was trying to complete.  Preventing the install of the settings and PDF add-in allowed documents to be saved again in word.
I decided to try to remove the innactive add-in from my Word Options and received the following error message:
"The connected state of Office Add-Ins registered in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE cannot be changed"
Due to my deleting that folder?
I suppose I could cancel that installation that initiates each time I open Word (or any other Office program that benefits from Acrobat Add-ins) but that will be a bit of an annoyance.
Anybody have another suggestion, know what may need to be deleted from the registry to prevent the Add-ins installation when opening Word, or know where that setting can be changed?
Hopefully getting close to a resolution

  • ACR won't save files other than in original file folder.

This has just started.  All was fine until now.  I recently was working on several files in camera raw.  Went to save files but discovered that I am unable to save the image, no matter what file format I choose -- TIFF, PSD or JPG -- unless I put it in the original folder it came from.  For example, I would choose Save Image from ACR, then Save in New Location, then Select Folder, choose another file folder (say Desktop) and then it would try to save it but would tell me the file could not be created.  If I choose Save in Same Location, everything works fine.  I AM able to open the RAW file in Photoshop and Save it from there.  As I said this is happening all of a sudden.  I am working with Vista 64 bit and with Photoshop 64 bit.  I tried using the 32 bit program but the same thing happens.  Any suggestions or should I just completely uninstall and reinstall?  I have checked and have all the latest updates for both Photoshop and ACR.  Thanks.

  • Photoshop CS2 won't install on MacBook Pro, 10.4.6

I have a 15 inch, 2.0 ghz MacBook Pro running 10.4.6. At this point I have installed all of the current Apple software updates.
I'm trying to install Photoshop CS2 and the installer hangs up and freezes the entire screen (although I can move the mouse) at the very beginning of the installation. The installer reads "Running Installation Script". The only way out is to do a hard reboot.
I've searched this forum and the Adobe forum and can't find any work arounds. On the Adobe forum it was suggested to do a clean install of OS X and it should work. I'd like to avoid that because of the time and possible loss of data.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

Yup ... same for me. Both PS and Common Files are greyed out and I can't uncheck anything.
Also, I did verify the disk permissions; created a different account; and even booted in Safe Mode.
It looks like Adobe is using the "we don't support Intel Macs yet" line so any fix for this may need to come from Apple.
I do have PS 7 running (I didn't install it on the MacBook, it ported over from my old machine when I set the new machine up) so I'm not completely dead. Sure wish I could use Adobe Bridge though.
EDIT: I just found this on the Adobe forum:
"Apprently there are some problems with the QT7.1 update.
Unfortunately, the only solution is to reinstall your OS and then install every update other than QT7.1. "
