Photoshop CS3 crashes a lot when moving layers - Help.

Using:
MAC OS 10.5.4
Photoshop 10.0.1
MacBook Pro, 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 668 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
My crashes are very specific. When I move a layer around in the layers palette, Photoshop will crash. It doesn't always crash when moving layers, but it does happen a lot!
Anyone have the same problem? Any solutions?
Thanks so much.
John

How much space do you have on your scratch disk?

  • Photoshop CS6 a little 'jerky' when moving layers & resizing window (Macbook Pro Retina 650m)

As title says, when I open Photoshop CS6 and simple make a new layer and either use the type tool, it appears to be a little Sluggish/Jerky when moving the layer around.. The same applies when resizing photoshop itself.
I'm updated to the latest version of CS6 and have tried all the combinations in the 'Performance' section of Photoshop.
My Macbook Pro Retina is the 3.4ghz 650m and 8GB RAM offering (OS Mavericks). It's really annoying me as even my old laptop could run it smoothly and that was an i5 and much lower-end graphics card.
The only way I can really describe it (and i'm no tech professional) is when comparing it to silky smooth 60 fps, it looks like it's skipping frames and in term looking 'jerky'. I also use Illustrator and don't really witness the same problem with it.
I know this may have been asked quite a bit.. But I've never found the solution.. Could anybody advise me on what it potentially could be down too? (Might I add the laptop has just had a fresh install of the OS and a fresh copy of CS6)

You could check through the GPU FAQ for anything you might have missed
    http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/photoshop-cs6-gpu-faq.html
You say you have tried all settings in Performance, but I wonder what your  cache levels are set at?  If more than 1, then OK.
There's the general performance FAQ (no doubt lots of overlap)
    http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/optimize-performance-photoshop-cs4-cs5.html
Is this with all image docs, or particular ones?  For instance I have been playing with using ACR to process 32bit HDR files, and it puts a huge load on the system.

  • Photoshop CS3 crashes when saving MAC OSX

Having problems with Photoshop CS3 crashing (Photoshop unexpectedly quit) when trying to save a file. Go to Photoshop/Preferences/File Handling/uncheck Version Cue. Seems that Version Cue is causing a lot of problems.

    >Seems that Version Cue is causing a lot of problems.
It always has. :/ It's an old story.
If you need Version Cue, check out this post:

  • Photoshop CS3 crashes when I try to print from Epson R2400

    Hi,
For no reason that I can see, when I try to print from my Epson R2400, Photoshop CS3 crashes.
It was working fine up to yesterday with no issues.
I have re installed the drivers etc but no use.
I also cannot choose Printer Manages Colors, as it is now greyed out.
When the the Printer dialogue opens and I click on the Page Set up I get the Error that "Photoshop CS3 has encountered a problem and needs to close"
    Any ideas please?

    Thanks for the replies.
I understand now that the procedure is probably the reason.
I was just experimenting as LAB colours are colours we see through our eyes, while RGB, CMYK etc are "computer" colours and so I use LAB colours a lot, before switching back to RGB.
I normally switch to LAB mode and click on the Lightness channel, then play with adjustments of that channel. This time I decided to mess around and see what would happen if I removed all channels except the Lightness one....
Converting to greyscale for me is not enough unfortunately and LAB B+W provides much better contrast and tone than hitting CTRL+Shift+U to greyscale.
Again, I understand what you say, my point being though that Photoshop should not crash because I incorrectly remove the channels, perhaps a warning to tell me I can't do it would be better.
I'll pass this onto Adobe anyway.
    cheers

  • Photoshop CS3 crashes on startup in Win 7 Prof 64 bit

    Hello everyone,
I'm not sure if this particular problem has been tackled before, if it has, I apologise in advance for double posting!
I have Photoshop CS3 as part of the Master Collection that I upgraded to from the old Macromedia Studio MX.  But recently, Photoshop CS3 crashes on start-up and returns the following error: "Adobe Photoshop CS3 has stopped working"
I am running it on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on a system with the following specs:
    CPU: Intel® Core™i7 Processor Extreme Edition i7-975 (3.33GHz
    RAM: 12 GB
    Graphics Card: 2GB ATI RADEON™ HD 5970 PCI EXPRESS - DirectX® 11
    HDD: 2x 500 GB
I tried running it under various compatibility modes, but alas, no luck - stops right at the same problem.
I've noticed that it crashes where the loading screen says 'building TWAIN Menus'.  The software has been working without a hitch righ up until i tried installing my drivers for my old Dell all in one printer/scanner.  These DID have compatibility issues, but I cant find it anywhere on my system to remove them.  Or I might;ve removed them when applying a fix to remove it.
So I guess, it's the scanner software that is doing it.  (hence I might've answered my own question).
Has anyone experienced this problem? perhaps even with thier own printer/scanners etc?  Any ideas how this might be resolved?
Any advice or help would be appreciated, thanks in advance! :-)

    John Joslin wrote:
You should be able to remove the drivers in Device Manager – or just uninstall the Dell all-in-one.
You can also disable the TWAIN plug-in by putting a tilde in front of its name.
Fantastic!  Puting the tilde on the front of the twain plug-in has sorted it.  At least it's working until I can get the drivers off.  I tried disabling the drivers, no luck, tried removing from device manager, still no luck.  Thats something I'll need to sift through the Dell forums for.
But thankfully, Photoshop now boot and works.  Thanks guys!

  • Photoshop CS3 crashes on "save as" command

    Hi all,
I'm running Photoshop CS 3 edition on Leopard. Photoshop crashes every time I try to "save as". Has anyone else experienced this issue? I have 2 gigs of ram on a new iMac.
    Thanks,
    John

I too am having the same issue with Photoshop CS3 crashing everytime I SAVE or SAVE AS, and when I choose File>open while the programs is running.
    I am running
    Mac OS X 10.4.11
Mac Book Pro 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    2GB RAM
I had been running the program successfully for over six months until a couple days ago.
I have verified/repaired permissions, reinstalled the entire Creative Suite, trashed preferences and reduced memory usage all with no luck.

  • Photoshop CS3 crashes every time I try  "safe as" command!

    Hi
My Photoshop CS3 crashes every time I try "safe as" command, I am on OsX 10.5.6. I tried to reinstall the problem is still there, permissions are fixed, I have no idea what happened. It worked for years without problems and now all of the sudden that. The only change I did on the machine is to install PGP.
    Any ideas??
    Thanks

    >It is not a notebook, but a MacPro 32GB RAM ( I think it should be enough) over 700GB for scratch and 160GB HD. I don't think that it is PGP, because the same configuration runs on my 2.6 Macbook Pro perfectly.
Understand that the two machines are not running
exactly the same configuration -- unless you've got 32GB RAM stuffed inside and have matching drives, applications, third-party software/utilities/plugins, OS, and application preference settings on both.
I'm trying to figure out what is different on the two systems.
Also, how did you prepare the computer when you ran upgrades? Did you run Disk Utility and DiskWarrior?

  • Photoshop cs3 crashed while i was working on a file...

photoshop cs3 crashed while i was working on a file. i checked the temp folder and found a file that was modified the day it crashed. there is no extension and when i tried to open it in photoshop it said that it "could not complete my request because the file is in use or left open"... is my file hosed or is there a way to recover it? i was working on it for hours and like a dummy forgot to save it

    Josh,
Someone had posted a link to such a program, as Mike mentioned. It was "supposed" to be able to dissect and restore from PS TMP files. I do not have a link, and also do not know the $, nor how effective this might be. I'd do a search of this forum, trying words like PS TMP, and the like. It was not THAT long ago. Again, have no experience with it (or any other TMP reclamation apps.). Might be worth a try.
All other comments on doing various forms of Save/Save_As are good ones. I'd incorporate those into my workflow, if you have not already.
You might want to look at Stellar-Phoenix for file recovery. Depending on where you were, when the crash happened, you might be able to locate your older
    b image
file on your HDD - or, you might not. Stellar-Phoenix had a trial. Seems that it would scan your HDD, but only the paid version would recover, if found. See if it finds something of use. I'd also do this,
    b before
anything else overwrites that/those sector(s) on your HDD . Probably not going to help, but you never know. Just to be clear, Stellar-Phoenix is a data recovery tool and is NOT a PS TMP file extractor.
Sorry about your misfortune and good luck,
    Hunt

Adobe Applications Manage rin Yosemite Kaput. Advisor directs me here. Another Adobe Run-around. CS5 Extended still crashing with Eyedropper when moved to desktop.

I'm sorry to report that I've not yet  figured out how to go about this 'Cleaning'. I've run the cleaner on the Applications Manager, then attempted to reinstall the downloaded Applications Manager and again I get the same message as above. I attempted to trash the Applications Folder and rerun the installer. That did not work. I then moved the downloaded Applications folder to the utilities folder and restarted CS5>Updates. It reports, again it can't find/or is damaged Applications Manager. I will now take the folder out of the trash and return it to the Utilities folder.
If I run the Recovery tool on Photoshop will I uninstall Photoshop or will it only 'clean' it. Does it mean I will lose any third party plugins?
I do thank you for your continued support. This is the first time a requested answer/suggestion to my troubles has been promptly be addressed by 'Adobe'. I am also pleased I can reply to an email to aid in resolving questions.
    Again, Thanks!

  • How To Access Photoshop CS3 Crash Log

How do I access Photoshop CS3 Crash Logs?

Open Console and then, if the toolbar is not visible, choose *View > Show Toolbar*.
Press the Logs button and then navigate to ~/Library/Logs > CrashReporter or /Library/Logs > Crash Reporter and choose the Photoshop report.

  • Running Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 is sluggish when moving between pictures on new iMac.

Running Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 is sluggish when moving between pictures on new iMac. I have a standard 21" iMac with 8 gb of RAM, but it still sticks for up to 30 seconds when switching pictures in organizer or other functions.  How can I get it more responsive?

How large is your HD & how much space do you have left?  Make sure you are using the latest version of APE.
You should also contact Adobe Support and/or post in the Adobe Forums since it's their product.

  • Photoshop CS3 crashing on Save for Web & Devices

I'm having a problem with Photoshop CS3 crashing every time I use the "Save for Web & Devices" option. It allows me to open the dialog box and configure my file, but as soon as I click Save, it crashes. Has anyone else had this issue and if so, how did you resolve it?

  • Photoshop CS3 is now closing when I attempt to save any file on our network.

Photoshop CS3 is now closing when I attempt to save any file on our network.
This has been occuring for the past few months.  I have 8 years with this not happening on this machine and this network.  I now have to save to my desktop, then move the file to the correct folder, re-open it and work from there.  Any ideas to fix this??

    Hi Andy,
This workflow might be working for you however it is not the ideal or correct workflow.
    Please refer to below article.

Photoshop is not supported while working with network drives. I would recommend an external or a local drive instead.
Thank you for posting on Adobe Forums.

  • CS4 crashes when moving layers

I am running OS 10.5.8 on a 2.66 Quad-Core Xeon Mac Pro with 8G of ram.  OFTEN when I simply try and drag a layer above or below another layer, Photoshop will crash.  Has anyone experienced this before and have they found a working solution?

I had this problem in Photoshop CS4 when running Leopard, somehow finally got it to stop when I reinstalled Photoshop CS4 and applied the update, now it has migrated to Snow Leopard (a clean OSX install, to boot) much to my displeasure.
It happens whenever I'm not paying attention... I'll "move" a layer up or down a few slots like usual, or attempt to move a layer when Photoshop might be consuming a lot of resources (i.e. finishing off a filter effect), or even if I try and move a layer while the layer is being transformed and has not been finalized.
The times this has happened are numerous and annoying, always seemingly random. I could have only five active layers and it will happen, or 10 tabbed projects all with 20 layers, it doesn't matter.
Never tried using keyboard shortcuts for layer arrangement—will have to try that now. Will also start sending the error reports.
I should note that this problem never occured in Photoshop CS3. There is one good thing that has come of this: I've been relying on, and thus mastering, Illustrator a whole lot more which is rock solid for me. I love it.
EDIT: I've got a 2.4ghz MacBook Pro (the late 2008 unibody model) with 4GB of RAM. I usually run on the 9400M integrated graphics chip... I can't remember if this happens on the 9600 discrete or not.
