Photoshop CS3 has encountered a problem...

Well, I've spent 2 days trying to fix this issue on my own, it's time for me to reach out and find out if anyone out there can help me!  I can open a Photoshop image fine, but when I try to open a 2nd image (which I almost always do), I get an error message that says Adobe Photoshop CS3 has encountered a problem and has to shut down.  This is disastrous, I can't do my work!  I have Windows XP, and last week a technician loaded Microsoft Expression Web 3 on my computer... as far as I know, that's the only thing that has changed.  Photoshop worked fine last week, but it was probably before Expression Web was installed.  He also has to install Framework.net, he said when he tried to install Expression Web, he got a message saying he needed to install Framework.net first... I have no idea what version of that I have, don't even know what it is.  I didn't look over his shoulder as he was installing... he did say that Expression specified an older version of Framework.net, but I don't remember what version.
I'm concerned that maybe what he installed caused some kind of incompatibility, I know that I'm a couple of versions behind with CS3.  If that's the case, I have to beg and plead my management for an upgrade, but I have to research this first.  Can anyone help me?

How are you opening the second file?  Using the File-Open dialog?
I ask because Microsoft Expression Web is supposed to deliver a codec that understands how to make thumbnails for .psd files, and since an Explorer-like window is involved with File-Open, I put two and two together and it seems that the codec might not be playing well with Adobe's File-Open dialog.
It's been a long, long while but I have a distant memory that there's a way to have Photoshop use an alternate File-Open dialog, or at least there once was...   I think it was a button at the lower left of the File-Open dialog.  Try changing that.

  • Photoshop CS3 has encounted a problem

I installed CS3 under my Administrator username. If I start PS CS3 extended under a different username login, the program starts OK, but will not open any files except camera raw files. The program displays the message "Photoshop CS3 has encountered a problem and needs to shut down...". Even if I save a camera raw image into a psd file when logged in under the different username, I cannot open that file when logged in under the different username.
My question is: Is this normal behavior?
    My systems is:
Dell M6300, XP Pro SP3, 3GB ram, 72.3GB free disk space, PhotoShop CS3 extended Version 10.0.1

Well, but are your user priviliges set correctly? If you add users post-creation of a folder/ file, they will never inherit any info about that user, thus operating on such directories does fail. The only exception is, when you log on the first time on a freshly created user account, but even then it will only affect user directories and standard system directories. Also remember that to actually do some work you have at least to be a Power User or otherwise you may not have permission to read and write any files, regardless of their location.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS3 had encountered a problem V10.0.0.0

Photoshop V10.0.0 will not open. It crashes as its loading the Twain drivers at start up. I am running Windows XP.
I've tried deleting the preferences file, reloading Photoshop and, as a desperate measure, deleting and reloading CS3. Nothing has worked. I tried upgrading photoshop but still no luck. Set my default printer to PDF, still nothing. Disabled my firewall, still nothing.....
The worst bit is its been working quite happily since June 07 and then in late Nov early Dec it decided not to work. I also had a printer problem during this time and reinstalled the printer software, but photoshop wasn't working before I did that.
    The error I get is:
Adobe Photoshop CS3 has encountered a problem and needs to close
    Error signature App Name: photoshop.exe
    AppVer 10.0.0.0
    ModName: unknown
    ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset 0.0.0.0.0.0.0.4
Any assistance would be great - I am getting desperate!
    Regards
    Sally

When I uninstalled my Dell 944 printer Photoshop worked. When I reloaded my printer it crashed again. It seems to crash everytime it loads the TWAIN part of the photoshop opening screen.
I've tried downloading and installing the latest driver from Dell for the printer but its 2005 and the same as the one I have so no luck there.
I still need my printer to work (its my scanner as well) but I am desperate to get Photoshop back! Any clues??

  • Adobe Photoshop Lightroom has encountered a problem and needs to close. (ver 1.4.1)

I completed a search for this problem here and other forums, and found very useful information, however, I still need help. My laptop is an HP Pavillion dv1000, Intel Centrino, Windows XP, 1.24G of RAM; Camera is a Canon 5D, shooting JPEG only.
After a couple of weeks enjoying a vacation in the Caribbean, it was time to load all the new pics in the computer. I removed the card from my camera and using windows explorer, downloaded all pics in MyPictures folder. I created a new folder for this trip, and while I was there, I decided to reorganize several folders from previous trips. I renamed and moved folders around, deleted pictures, etc. (I believe that all the changes that I made created my problem.)
Once I finished all the changes with my folders, I launched Lightroom (ver 1.4.1) with the idea of synchronizing the folders and start working on my new pictures. After apx 8 seconds, I got the message: Adobe Photoshop Lightroom has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.
After a google search, I found a lot of potential answers to my problem, including this one, which I tried:
"It might also be worth trying a temporary test catalog, just to see whether it's specific to that catalog. To do so, go to File menu > New Catalog and create a new catalog somewhere easy - Desktop perhaps - and just try importing a few photos into that test catalog and see if you can get it to freeze. I'm wondering if the catalog's been damaged slightly by that initial unexpected close, and if so, we'll see if we can get that sorted out for you."
I did exactly that (created a test catalog) and I don't get the error. I am not clear on what does that mean. Could you help me understand it? What do I need to do to use my old catalog? Is it damaged? How can I fix it? Did I loose all the work that I did in my previous pictures?
If I go back to my original catalog, I still get the error.
Thank you in advanced for your assistance.
    Tony

    Tony,
    Here's something you might try:
Create a new, empty catalogue and try File->Import from catalog... and specify your broken one as input. With luck the damage will be left behind.
If that doesn't work, try deleting or renaming your preferences file. Look here for its location.
And if that doesn't work, try deleting or renaming your presets folder. See that same website for details.
Let us know how you make out.

  • Dreamweaver CS3 has encountered a problem...

I have searched the interent for hours trying to resolve this issue.
Everytime I open up DW, i get the error message:
"Adobe DW CS3 has encountered a problem and needs to close."
When i click "send error report" or "Dont send,"  DW closes.
If I just leave that alone, i can work in DW.
The problem is its also doing it for Adobe Acrobat 8.0.
    I am operating on XP.
I have tried to go in and unistall the entire Adobe Creative Suite.  I click on "remove" and nothing happens.
I am really frustrated with this.  Any help is appreciated.

Does CuteFTP work on it's own when DW is closed?
I too, use CuteFTP in conjunction with DW and have for many years and have never had such a problem.
Are you doing anything specific in Cute FTP when DW crashes?

  • CS3 has encountered a problem

    get this:

    close. We
    are sorry for the inconvenience.
Here is the identical page, but with the ext. changed to html
    (there is
no php code in the page yet, though there will be:

This page can be edited in DW CS3.
What gives? The code validates. The only thing different is
    the extension!
    Thanks for looking,

  • "Adobe Photoshop CS5 has encountered a problem and needs to close."

I get this error everytime I try to launch Photshop CS5. The startup screen appears but it stops at "Starting Plugins... Scripting support", then it gives that message^(along with don't send and send error report, of course).
    Specs:
    XP Pro SP3
    E6750 dual core cpu(has 64bit support)
    nVidia GeForce 9500gt 1gb
    3gb ddr2 ram
Alright, hopefully someone can help with this.
    Thanks.

Reinstalled everything and it still gives the same error.
Edit: I used the akami download manager, does that have anything to do with it? Would manually installing it be better?

  • Photoshop CS4 has encountered a problem and needs to close

Win xp. I loaded PS and it worked fine. I set Open GL and it still worked. I have a Nvidia Quadra FX 550. It was suggested that I update the drivers which I did. Then PS would not open. I got the message during the blue splash screen. I reverted back to the old drivers...it still wouldn't load.
    Any suggestions?

Open you Event Log and see what the defaulting module is.  It could be PS, drivers, conflicting program, corrupted load of program, or any number of things.

  • Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver

I rummaged around in here looking at opengl topics and others associated with the above error, but I'm not seeing what I'm encountering (or I am and I don't recognize it!).....
I bought CS4 a week or so ago, and installed it on a system running XP32 with service pack 3, 4GB of ram withe the /3GB switch set, nVidia 8600 GT card (which according to the list is supported), and multiple spindles for images, scratch, applications, and so on. I found other topics earlier so I downloaded the most recent drivers for my video card.
I'm not crashing and burning, but I'm getting some messages...
I opened an image, and while working on it I wanted to do a transform/warp. I got the message that Photoshop couldn't perform the operation because there wasn't enough memory. It didn't crash but I had to shut down CS4 and restart it to do the warp.
Most recently I opened a couple images for a panorama, and while doing the merge I got the message that "Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver and has temporarily disabled gpu enhancements." It tells me to check for the latest drivers - I've ALREADY got the lastest drivers. Again, no crash, just the warning. It completed the panorama.
There have been a couple other occurrences of messages of this type, so I'm curious if there's some set of preferences or system settting I need to adjust to optimize things? I've alrady adjusted the nVidia settings because I also run Lightroom and they're having problems too.
I've read the tech notes for the video and such and didn't find any set of optimizations there so is there a set of adjustments beyond the preferences that needs to be adjusted to improve memory and video performance? And if so, can someone point me to them.

As I understand it (suspect at best) XP32 can address 4 gig of memory. the /3gb switch lets the applications get at 3 gig of that. If my video card takes the first 256MB, and XP is guaranteed the other 750 of the 1st gig, and in the CS4 performance preferences I should be giving it from 1462 - 1895 MB (I've given it around 1890), that leaves me with another gig or so... Is that limited to applications or can XP use it? In any case, I'm not crashing, I just get the message every so often about being out of memory. I don't recall ever seeing this with CS3, but new version, new oddities...

  • Photoshop CS5.1 will not even open. Says it has encountered a problem and has to close.

I have just today downloaded a free trial of Adobe CS5.1, but when I try to open it, it brings up the loading screen, and then when it says "Starting-up plug-ins, Scripting Support" an error message comes up saying "Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 has encountered a problem and needs to close.
This also happens when I try to use Photoshop Elements 8. It will not let me on to the Organiser.
As well as this, I had a problem with bridge. Whenever I tried to download images onto my computer, it said "Adobe photo downloaded has encountered a fatal error. Error code: c0000005 (I cannot remember what the address was though). I uninstalled bridge and then tried to download CS5.1 so I could get bridge again, but it has only made things worse!
    What should I do?
    Thanks

Ok I did that and it said
"Faulting application photoshop.exe, version 12.1.0.0, faulting module scriptingsupport.8li, version 10.0.0.0, fault address 0x000d1a2e."
This would make sense as when I try to start photosohop CS5.1 and the strtup screen appears, when it says "Starting-up plugins, Scripting Support" that it was the message "Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 has encountered a problem and has to close" comes up.

  • Just purchased and installed photoshop and everytime i try to open it it says "windows has encountered a problem and must close the program" anyone else have this problem?

I have just purchased the photography package on my windows 8 computer and everytime I open photoshop an error message pops up saying that windows has encountered a problem and needs to close the program. I am really frustrated that this is happening after I purchased this plan and would like to be able to use the product I have purchased

    +1 to Chris' assessment.
Keep in mind that it's your responsibility to provide a problem-free working environment on your computer for Photoshop, and system software (such as display drivers) can have problems.
Look in your Windows Event Logs (specifically, your Application Log) for the info requested above on the specific crashes.
