Photoshop CS3 printing garbage characters on HP LaserJet 1300

After installing CS3, Photoshop prints garbage characters on my HP LaserJet 1300.
Yes, I have tried printing as ASCII, ASCII85, Binary and JPEG - nothing helps (plus the settings won't stick even after holding down Alt and clicking the Remember button).
The only way to print right now is to choose Save as PDF in the print dialogue, open the PDF in Adobe Reader and print from there.
Any ideas?

tzw - I responded about this on another forum. I talked to technical support at Adobe about this exact issue about 2 months ago - can't print photoshop CS3 on any of my three HP printers. ( I have a HP1200, an HP 2550 and a HP photosmart 7660) (CS2 works fine) They worked with me for about an hour - called me back and worked some more, and then decided to send it up to the programmers (or engineers or whatever) The programmers called me and worked with me for another hour - trying different set-ups etc., but the conclusion by them was that this was a huge problem in that there were a lot of HP printers out there - that they were going to give this their top priority - and that there would be a fix for this soon. (I have yet to see a fix.)

  • Adobe Photoshop CS3 printing to an HP Pro B9180

I am trying to print a borderless project. The preview looks perfect but when printed it cuts 1/8th of an inch off the top. I have reinstalled Adobe Photoshop CS3, reinstalled the printer and spent 2 hours with an HP tech online and no fixes yet. Windows Vista Home Premium is the O/S.
    Any suggestions, thanks Jan

    Hi Jan,
Don't know if this will help or not, but it may be worth a look. Russell Brown has a video tutorial on printing with CS3 to the HP Photosmart B9180 here:
    http://www.russellbrown.com/tips_tech.html
You'll have to scroll about 1/3 down the page to get to the section entitled
Adobe Photoshop CS3 Standard Edition Tutorials
and its the third tutorial in the list. He also gives some useful tips about drivers et cetera.
    Good luck.

  • Adobe PDF printer 'printing' garbage characters

Acrobat Professional v9.5.0 (Acrobat reports there are no updates available)
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
I print from various applications and web pages to my 'Adobe PDF' printer to save things as PDF files.
Over the last several months, I have begun to have issues with printing to my Adobe PDF printer. This issue happened twice just yesterday, actually.
I will be looking at a web page, and choose to print it to PDF (a purchase receipt for example). I supply the filename and choose to print, and Acrobat will bring up the newly created PDF and it will have garbage characters in various places.
If I try printing it to PDF again, I get the same results.
However, if I print the item to Microsoft XPS format, it works just fine and all the characters are readable.
I don't know what to do. I saw an article about embedding the fonts, but it appears that all the standard 'web safe fonts' are already set to be embedded in PDF files via distiller (if that is what is actually doing the printing to create the PDF). If I have to choose more fonts to embed into the PDF, it seems to be extremely difficult to determine what fonts are being used by each site or application and choosing them all manually to be embedded in the files.
Surely there has to be a simpler solution to this issue.

I too had this annoying issue, usually printing from https sites, although the site address may be coincidental.
    What worked for me was:
    Select Print
In the print dialog box, select Adobe PDF and then Preferences.
In the Printing Preferences dialog box the tab should be Adobe PDF Settings
Uncheck the box next to Rely on system fonts only; do not use document fonts
    Select OK
If the box is already unchecked, it might be caused by something similar. This worked so I went no further. I have not yet checked to see if this must be done each time or how to make it default.

  • Printing Garbage Characters

When a particular user prints a certain PDF the first page, which appears to be a form, prints mostly weird characters with some numbers mixed.  If I log into the same machine under my login I can print it fine. My guess is that user has some setting set that is causing this issue.  Any thoughts?

My issue wasn't just about the first page; most of my pages printed garbage, only a few printed fine.
I started opening the PDF file in Preview and printing from that. I could add blank pages if I wanted a multi-page document to print some blank pages on the back of my 2-sided copies in Preview (Edit - Add blank page). This works great! I've spent months trying to figure this out. I'm running Mac 10.5.8 OS with an updated version of Reader (also printed garbage) and Acrobat Standard 7.0, which is old, but I need it to make one PDF from multiple PDFs.

  • HP3015 Printing Garbage Characters

We have had 2 HP3015's that all of a sudden will start printing garbage like ASCII characters.  Tried reloading drivers.  If we put in HP601 machines instead, the machines function fine.  Hospital setting.

  • Reader printing garbage characters

Whenever I print using Acrobat reader default characters print as garbage, even when printing using "Print as Image".  Print preview looks fine but printer page shows mostly garbage characters.  For example, when printing the Sunday Crossword puzzle from the Washington Post the numbers in the gird print fine but the clues and things like Across and Down headers print with garbage characters.  This happens regardless of whether the document is printed from the Reader directly or from within a browser.  I've used IE8, Firefox and Chrome and get the same result.  The same problem exists regardless of which of my 3 printers I use (HP1020, HP Photosmart 8250, Brother MFC-3740W).  Same type of problem happens regardless of what pdf file I try to print.  Print preview always looks fine.  Printing the same files from my other PC comes out with no problem.  The problem system is running Windows 7 64-bit and problem only started recently, things used to print fine.

In the meantime you will likely find that the fonts are not embedded or you are not sending them to the printer. Reader has not been called Acrobat Reader since version 5. The name was changed to just Adobe Reader to avoid this confusion. Acrobat is the full product with a $$ value to purchase.

  • Laserjet Pro 200 M251NW printing Garbage characters multiple pages after just setting up

I am installing the printer for the first time on a Dell Optiplex with Windows 7 32bit, it is about a year old and is working fine with other printers. The printer was working fine through USB on a laptop running windows XP.
Connected the printer to an open USB on the computer and the auto install started running from the printer. It seemed to run OK, I followed all of the prompts, etc. When I said it should print a test page it started printing multiple pages each with a few lines of what I would call garbage text, strange characters, spaces, random letters, etc. It kept printing pages and I had to turn the printer off to get it to stop.
I was thinking that maybe the drivers from the printer were old and not for Windows 7, so I then download the full driver from the HP website and installed that. It said it would uninstall the original driver, which it did, then it installed and again all seemed OK until I printed the test page, and the same thing as above happened. I also tried printing some text from notepad and it went to the print queue then disappeared. It still seemed like a driver problem to me so I manually uninstalled from the start menu program Uninstall for the printer. This time I downloaded the basic driver and installed - still with the same result. I thought maybe it was because the Quick STart from the printer kept loading when the printer was turned on so I turned it off from the menu on the printer, but it still didn't help. I also tried another USB port on the computer with the same result.
Is it possible there is software left from the first install that may not have been for Windows 7 and it needs to be removed manually??
Any help from HP or anyone would be greatly appreciated as I need to get this printer running for our shipping system ASAP.
    Thanks,
    Rich

I tried all of those things and it is always the same result. Even on the network, printing from the same computer. I was able to print properly from a different computer, to the HP 200 connected to the USB and shared on the original computer - so I then knew the USB was OK.
I was looking online further and found the HP Universal  PCL6 driver, and it actually worked! I don't really understand why the proper driver will not work with the printer though. I even created a new user on the computer so all of the programs, etc. would not load, then I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver - still same problem. The computer also has drivers and printer software for Epson printers, so I don't know if that could be causing some type of problem.
It is good that we can at least do basic printing but I really should have the fully functional driver working for the system. Any help from anyone, and hopefully HP monitors these discussions and can help out.
    Thanks,
    Rich

  • Photoshop CS3 printing problem

    Hello all,
One of my client is having problems printing Contact sheets on his color printer.
    Here is the scenario;
    User opens CS3
File - Automated - Contact Sheet II
Browse to folder where pictures are and selects folder
    Contact sheets get created
At this point, the user must select each sheet one by one and change his printer selection to the color printer because each sheet defaults to his  B&W laser printer
Collegue uses Photoshop CS and only needs to change printer selection for the first Contact Sheet then switches to the other sheets and presses CTRL-P to print them.  If my client does this, the second sheet up to the last sheet would print blank!
Is there a reason why CS3 forces you to change printers for every sheet?
Is there a fix for this?
My client is quadriplegic but has 20% upper body movement.  The less manual modifications the better for him.
I know that he can change his default printer to the color before creating the Contact Sheets then change it back but he wanted to see if there was a fix to the problem first.
    Thanks in advanced.

    Two things:
    - Printer settings are "system settings" in the far and wide sense. If the user does not have sufficient privileges, he may not be allowed to change such settings persistently. This might affect sequential printing like in the Contact Sheet automation, where each file is sent separately to the printer.
    - The printer driver overrides specific settings. This could e.g. be things like "print first page in a different format", automatic paper selection and a few others. Some of that could even hinge on you choosing a unsuitable paper size and layout in the first place which makes the print engine try to make "smart" decisions about these things. Carefully look through the drivers and take out conflicting settings. also, if your printer allows to store custom settings profiles, maybe use a factory preset instead.
If that doesn't work, you can often install the same printer multiple times with different settings by tying it to a different virtual port or using a different driver, like e.g. one time a winPrint driver and the other a PostScript Driver. This will entail some additional manual work, of course, but might solve the problem.

  • Photoshop CS3 prints not central on print preview

I have CS3 and use a 3800 for my work. Whenever I set an image to print the preview displaces the image to the left and up about 1 cm. no other application I have does this.
I am using windows XP on a dual core PC. From what I can tell it is a problem with photoshop as I have now problems printing with other applications.

Mmh, what's a 3800? Epson? HP? Something else? sounds like your printer driver is not correctly reporting its supported regions and rasterization capabilities, which may not affect stuff handled via Windows GDI printing, but could pose a problem via PostScript... Have you attempted another driver or at least creating a second "printer" with different settings?

  • Need help! Printer printing garbage characters and non stop until out of paper

    Hi,
I have a computer lab that has 25 workstations. The workstations are installed with Adobe CS5 suite. Sometimes when trying to print Indesign files, the printer started to go haywire. It will print out garbage character and printing non stop until ran out of paper.
Any help will be great. Thanks in advance.
    Network printer: HP colorjet CP4525
    OS: Win XP SP3
    Software: Indesign CS5

There is no such thing as a Generic Adobe PostScript driver. What is posted on the adobe.com website is a driver installer that simply associates PPD files with the standards Windows PostScript driver that comes with Windows itself. That installer only works with versions of Windows up to and an including Windows XP 32-bit. It does not work with Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server, or any 64-bit version of Windows.
Also note that although the HP CP4525 “supports PostScript” it is not a printer with Adobe PostScript 3, but rather, CloneScript from a third party.
Having said that and understanding that you are currently using a PCL6 driver, I would recommend the following:
    (1)     Try using the PCL5C driver for the printer. PCL6 and its drivers was always dodgy anyway.
    (2)     Turn off the printer's automatic page description language sensing. That feature attempts to guess as to whether PCL or PostScript is currently being sent to the device and switch language processors. It really isn't necessary because HP's drivers prepend the print job with information as to which page description language is being used.
Given the unreliable nature of HP's emulation of PostScript, I would not recommend using any HP LaserJet's PostScript mode for any model of LaserJet in recent memory.

  • Photoshop CS3 printing on R2400 using Roll image over 44 inches

    Hi,
I have an image that is 100 inches wide. and 10 inches high. It is a panorama made up of 9 shots.
According to Epson (I've been dealing the their support center) the Printer can actually print up to 129 inches wide using the Roll feeder and Banner mode with the User Defined size options.
However, it keeps stopping at 44 inches no matter what settings I use.
According to Epson, Photoshop is restricted to a MAX resolution of 300,000 pixels (3 megapixels???) for printing purposes.
I find this hard to believe as this works out as very low.
My shot would have to be reduced to approx 50 PPI to obtain this low Res and the final print would be low grade.
    Any comments here?
Has anyone used this printer and successfully printed on roll?

    Hi,
    Thanks for the information.
I also found a software called Qimage which, although a bit clanky to get used to managed to print to the 100".
I find it strange that CS3 cannot print these images. Even to print to 44 inches you have to rotate the image to Portrait first.
I'll buy Lightroom as large pano's are the requirement at the moment still, but Adobe need to address this issue, unles they deliberatley want us to purchase 2 applications, when one should be enough...
    Thankls for the info again.

  • How to do Wireless Printing from MacMini to HP LaserJet 1300?

I have two broad bank wireless networks at home as an experiment. One from Cox and the other from Verizon. I have my Airport Extreme working fine with internet. When I plug my Laser printer into the USB port of the Airport Extreme I can only print wirelessly when I am on Cox, not on Verizon. On Cox I get a choice of Shared Printer or Bonjour. If I choose either of them and highlight the Laser Printer I can print. If I change to Verizon, neither shared or Bonjour show up and I cannot print wirelessly.
I can print with a direct hook-up (hard cable) anytime. Your suggestions and help would be appreciated.

  • Printing problem - printout that become garbage characters

I am having problems printing - not everything and not all of the time.
But to often I will print something and it will start printing garbage characters page after page. - Wastes a lot of clean paper.
It happens with different applications - including web pages, pdf files, Movie magic Screenwriter. No rhyme of reason to it.
I have a Brother hl-6050 printer. The correct driver is correct.
I should also say this does not happen from Windows (either in a virtual window from my MAC or booting directly to windows) ever.
Last but not least - We print thru a little print server made by Trendnet. It has the lastest firmware. Again only a problem on the MAC. I've tried connecting thru the ip as well as the server name.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Paul

I'll see if I can provide some of that -
Model Trendnet: TEW-P1UG, Wireless print server (802.11g). (Server Name:PS-705EF8)
Adding a new printer in the default options - the systems finds the print server and Lists it twice - Once with Appletalk and the other Bonjour.
The local comes up as Local Zone. I select the Driver for this printer: HL-6050DN series CUPS. -- The Queue name defaults to PS-705EF8-U1.
    Using Appletalk made no sense
Using IP - Default to LPD. The queue becomes the IP address.
Using LPP or LPD: neither work. Can't even print a test page.
I'm less familiar with these particular variations. More use to Windows printing setup which is a little more straight forward. Go figure.
    Thanks
