Photoshop CS3 quit working

I'm using Photosop CS3 on Mac 10.4. I am able to launch photoshop and open one or two files, but then it stops working. It won't even allow me to do a File, Open, as Photoshop just appears inactive. If I restart the system, it will let me open another file or two, then stop working again. Any tips? I tried deleting the preferences and that didn't help.

I would create a new user account. Login to this new account and test Photoshop. If your problem is no longer precent, then you know it's something in your user/library that is corrupt or damaged. If this is the case, you would have to hunt down any file, just like your preference files, that might be created by Photoshop.
If Photoshop still hangs on the new user account, you probably need to reinstall it, or you have something else conflicting with it. It that is the case, look at Login Items that might have been installed recently.

I have CS3 Photoshop on a Windows Vista machine. Just recently, it has stopped working whenever I try to open an image. The program opens up just fine but whenever I try to do anything, an error message pops-up and Window shuts it down.

After Photoshop Elements quit working for the second time in three months, I uninstalled it and now cannot get it to reinstall from the disc. Nothing happens when I insert the disc. All I can do is look at the folders and files and see nothing that tells me how to start the installation. Clicking "open with Auto play" gives me irrelevant options, view photos, share, etc. I'm running Windows 8. This program has worked, although buggy, for the past year.

reinstall by clicking setup on your disk or downloading and installing,

  • Why did my copy of Photoshop CS3 stop working? The message tells me that Adobe has stopped licensing it. I love it. I want to use it. How?

My copy of Photoshop CS3 has stopped working. I love it. I am very familiar with it. I paid hundreds of dollars for it. When I click on it (W/my MAC) I get a message that reads: "You cannot use this product at this time. You must repair the product by contacting Adobe Customer Support."
So how do I repair it so it works again? I've called the "Chat" forum three times and they do nothing. Please help...I use this Photoshop CS3 for work.
I have the serial number, but not the original disc which was damaged.
    Thank you in advance.
    Rob Taylor
I am trying to run it under Mac OS 10.9.5

The simplest way to clear it up is usually a re-install. Here is a link to the installers: Download CS3 products. Have your serial number ready.

    Yes.
    Download Photoshop Elements products | 13, 12, 11, 10
However, the real issue is why the program is not working. Did you install anything recently?
When you tried to re-install from the disk, did you shut off the antivirus program temporarily?
Have you tried a system restore to a point in time when the program was working properly?

Photoshop CS quit working, saying that recent changes to my computer (?! No) deactivated it. Attempts to re-activate by Internet don't work ("not available right now"??) and Adobe doesn't do phone re-activations now.
    Any suggestions?

Is that the ancient Photoshop CS a.k.a. Photoshop 8.x ?

  • Raw plugin photoshop CS3 not working

Have a new laptop Samsung QX412, can't get raw to open in photoshop cs3. It works in my desktop. Laptop running windows 7 (64) Home. Photoshop shows "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document". Have updated both photoshop CS3 and bridge. Photo's being saved in bridge from camera, Canon 50D. Have tried comments from windows forum. Still no go. As someone else has said, I'm a photographer not an IT expert and starting to get quite frustrated. I would appreciate help. Thankyou.

To use Windows effectively, sometimes you just have to get into the technical aspects of using the computer...
Search your system in the vicinity of the folders used for Photoshop plug-ins (e.g., under C:\Program Files\Common Files) for multiple copies of the file Camera Raw.8bi and note the dates/sizes.  Somehow, because of a mistake in trying to install it, I suspect you have multiple copies, and Photoshop is still using one other than the one you installed.
Normally, Photoshop CS3 will look for Camera Raw.8bi in this location:
    (on a 32 bit operating system):  C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS3\File Formats\Camera Raw.8bi
    (on a 64 bit operating system): C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS3\File Formats\Camera Raw.8bi
The Camera Raw 4.6 plug-in file on my system has these characteristics (note specifically the size).

  • Photoshop cs3 quits unexpectedly

photoshop cs3  is quitting when i open images.
if the images are over 500MB and i don't wait for the preview to open before opening it crashes immiadiatly. if i wait it doesn't crash straight away, but after opening two or three images it crashes.
i have never had this problem before.
i have repaired the pernissions in disc utility. still quitting....
    does anyone have any ideas?
this is driving me nuts....is there anyone out there?

i don't wait for the preview to open before opening it
I don’t understand what that means.
Anyway as with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems You might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences You’ve changed) by pressing command-alt-shift on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.

  • Photoshop CS3 stoped working and all other adobe programs as well

Well i tried updating my photo shop and it than restarted and i became impatient and stopped it after it restarted. later i tried to use photoshop and it said "Adobe photoshop CS3 has stopped working" and than under "a problem caused the program to stop working correctly windows will close the ptogram and notify you if a solution is available" so i than tried to reinstall with out uninstalling first and it still didn't work. does any one know how to fix this? your help would greatly be appreciated!

    again, couldn't hurt.
slightly off topic but, i've had nothing but grief from reader 8. i can't view pdfs in the browsers anymore, it just hangs and hangs. maybe it'll come up eventually but after a minute, if i need to see it bad enough i'll kill acro32 process and just download it and view it from the desktop.

  • Photoshop CS4 quit working

I upgraded from CS3 to CS4 several weeks ago, and everything seemed ok except for a few little quirks with onOne. I was able to work around these issues and thought CS4 was great. Now the problem.......I tried to open CS4 yesterday and it would not open. Blue box came on screen and went through the process like it was launching, then message came up "CS4 has quit working". The program closed and continues to do this every time I try to open it. CS3 works, Bridge works, Lightroom works, only the CS4 will not work.
I uninstalled it and reinstalled the program. Everythig loaded fine with no messages or problems. But.........it still will not work. I need help!

Is the OnOne software already updated to a CS4 compatible version? If not, it may completely mess up things. This is a known problem.

  • Photoshop CS3 quits

    Hi all
In my workstation when i try to open Photoshop CS3 it open and quits immediately.
This happens frequently in my Mac
Anyone Pls give a solution for this.

This happen to me whenever I do an upgrade to the application or the OS and they are not compatible.  Make sure you are using the latest versions of both your OS and the application.  Although just notice this is CS3 so not sure how high up the Mac OS is capable with CS3  That maybe an issue asa well.

I can't get Photoshop to open. I installed my wacom tablet yesterday & now it just says it's stopped working. How do I get it back. I uninstalled tablet...that didn't help

Windows maintains a reliability History. When an application like Photoshop stops working windows windows record that into the reliability history. So look at your system history and are what is recorde when Photoshop stoped working. Where is the failure. Here you see some that happened on my system.  The failures in CC and CC2014 happened in Windows and were cause by a device driver update. I updated the device driver to a newer version and test what cause Photoshop to stop working and now all is well,
