PhotoShop CS3 vs. Leopard: Have prolems been solved?

Hello,
There is a problem with the font size, brush size, and other numerical values typed into Adobe Photoshop CS3 reverting to the previous value.
I have heard that the latest update to Leopard, v10.5.2., solves this. Is this true? Are there any other problems that still exist when using Leopard?
I'd like to update but am keeping to Tiger until I can see some clear evidence that PS works OK now.
Thanks,
Tom

John,
You are expressing an opinion of many who haven't used the Leopard, or perhaps only use an operating system to drive other applications and never really learn the OS itself. Leopard is significantly different than Tiger and has enhancements which, if you use them, are quite compelling. I put it on a drive in my Mac Pro a week after the release announcement thinking I'd keep using Tiger. Even though there were some issues with Photoshop, they weren't crippling for me and I never went back. In fact I've only booted into Tiger once since 10.5 was released. Peculiarly, for me Adobe apps were the only problematic ones. My major 3D apps had no issues at all.
QuickLook, CoverFlow in the Finder, the new Spotlight, TimeMachine (which allows me to change my mind about the direction of a creative project and recapture an earlier version), universal access dictionary/thesaurus, the DVD player (which is more sophisticated than any software DVD player on any platform) are just a few of the obvious refinements. I even like stacks and there are enhancements to every aspect of the operating system. It requires an investment of effort to begin to appreciate them. Beyond the user accessible features, the underlying technologies allow for a whole new generation of Leopard only applications.
While you can make a statement that it is just eye candy like Vista, that isn't a fair comparison. Heck it's not even fair to Vista...

I have Photoshop CS3 which I have used successfully for a number of years.  I now shoot pics with a Nikon DSLR D7100. When I try to open NEF files the following flag appears: "Could not complete your request because PS does not recognize this file".  What do I need to do to open my NEF files??  Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply, CP
FYI, the file is a photographic panorama based on several .CR2 photos taken in July, 2012 and processed in CS5's camera RAW/Photoshop.  Beyond the metadata, here are no fonts or text in the file.
    1.  I changed Maximize ...File Capability from "Never" to "Always" and the flattened file saved and loaded OK, though I can't figure why given Adobe's description of this option. "If you work with PSD and PSB files in older versions of Photoshop or applications that don’t support layers, you can add a flattened version of the image to the saved file...".  The file saved in this manner is ~8% larger and is not my preference as a routine since I've TB's of photo files.  By the way, out of thousands of .psd/.psb files, the one being discussed is the first to give me the error.
    2.  I've tried saving/reloading the file on another computer with Win XP Sp3/CS5...again with Maximize Capability OFF.  Same problem.  Turn ON Maximize Capability and it works.  As with the Win 8 machine, Bridge could neither create a thumbnail or read Metadata.
    3.  I've purged the Bridge Cache, made sure there were no old PS page files, reset PS preferences, and disabled my 2 plugins with no change in the problem.  Windows and Adobe progs are all updated.  Saving to a different HDD has no effect.
The problem occurs on 2 computers (Win XP/Win 8), two versioins of Photoshop (CS5/CS6), and "Maximize" On/Off togles the problem.  My guess it is a bug in PSD processing routines.
If I can't find a fix, will keep with Maximize ON and deal with the larger files that result...the cost of insurance, I suppose.
    Thanks again

  • Installing Adobe Photoshop CS3 on Leopard (headaches really...)

    Hi,
I'm a Tiger user and i have another Mac that runs Leopard. I have Photoshop CS3 on a Disc and used in to install on my mac with Tiger, then when i try with the mac that runs Leopard i run into some issues.
    One Error Message states :
    "The application Photoshop CS3

    unexpectedly.
When i open the .Dmg on the disc (or when i drag it to the HD) i get the following message :
The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data
in "adobephotoshop1012-06.dmg" could not be read or
    written.
    (Error code -36)
If anyone can help me it'd be greatly appreciated. like i said i've done this before successfully on a freshly updated Tiger. this problem is new to me. thanks for reading.

    *"The application Photoshop CS3*
    *(beta10.0x20061208) [k] (Universal) quit*
    unexpectedly."
For starters, you're using a beta version, dated Dec 8, 2006...which is not final and still contains bugs... CS3 was not released until Sprint 2007. and second, based on it's file name, your application appears to have been illegally "Kracked"...hense the [k].
If you do in fact have a valid legal license of Photoshop, you should probably post your question on Adobe's forums:

  • Photoshop cs3 on Leopard 10.5.5 printing issues

Our photo lab recently updated both our computers and the Adobe Photoshop program. We are now using Photoshop cs3 on iMacs with Leopard 10.5.5. We have an Epson Stylus 2200 and the print quality is now very poor. Can anyone recommend a printer that produces high quality prints on this system with this software?

Yes, I have updated Photoshop and also contacted Epson...the newest driver is for mac 10.4...they are no longer making this printer and this is the only available driver.

  • Photoshop CS3 no longer have save options

For some reason, when I try to save my files as some kinds of file types like JPEG or things, the option to is no longer there. It only gives me
    Photoshop
    Cineon
    Large Document Format
    Photoshop PDF
    Photoshop Raw
    PNG
    TIFF
I cannot save in JPEG, GIF, TGA, or any of those other file types I may have missed. I really need help here, I looked all over the help in photoshop and this website and nothing knows what happened.
Oh yeah, the save as... window look also changed for some reason.
Be aware I've been using CS3 for several months now, and it's never done this to me before. This is like, brand new, as of today.

I thought 16 bit was capable of being JPEG? Guess not, changed it to 8 and there it was...
    Oh well...
But that still don't explain why my save as... window changed looks overnight.

Which operating system are you running on?
Do you get this error when loading or using the organizer or the editor?
What are you trying to do when you get this error?
If you are using raw files, which camera (make and model) do you use to create the raw files?
If you can load the editor, which version of camera raw do you have loaded? - see Help -> about Plug-in -> Camera raw

  • Adobe Photoshop CS3 and Leopard problem changing number values in the tools

I know that Adobe has mentioned on their site that this is a known problem and that the fix is going to come from a Leopard update. I have not seen anything on this problem from the Mac side so I am wondering when a fix can likely be expected. The Adobe link is http://www.adobe.com/support/pdfs/PhotoshopCS3_LeopardIssue.pdf
    Any clue?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
This is a user-to-user forum, so no one here works for Apple. None of us have any idea what they have running behind the scenes. I'm afraid you're just going to have to wait and see like the rest of us. It's against the Terms of Use of the Apple Discussions to speculate about unannounced or unreleased products, but the Macworld Expo starts in San Francisco in a little more than two weeks. In the past, Apple has released software updates at the same time as the expo to support new software and hardware. No one here can speculate if this will include the update you're looking for, however.

  • Leopard Photoshop CS3 Photomerge won't

Photoshop CS3's Photomerge is the best I've seen, but since installing 10.5.1 on G5 PPC iMac, it won't work. Tried Adobe's tips (smaller file sizes on pix to merge, resetting RAM lower, etc.) but no luck. Still have a G4 15" PPC PowerBook with 10.4.11 and CS3 - everything worked perfectly. Old message from Adobe says that they and Apple are working up a fix for most known issues (photomerge not mentioned).
Best to keep the the PowerBook Leopard-free for now? Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    George Widman
    Philly

I was able to run the Photomerge with three pictures on an Intel-based Mac with Mac OS X 10.5.1 and Adobe Photoshop CS3. I have version 10.0, not the current 10.0.1 version, which version do you have? I've never used that feature before, but the automatic detection option worked really well. I've been doing it manually for years!
Very cool! I don't know if I have 16 pictures I could link together, but I probably have at least six I can try later. (I suppose I could try the manual feature with 16 pictures that don't actually go together.)

  • When installing Adobe Photoshop CS3 on Windows Vista I get this error "Setup has encountered an erro

When installing Adobe Photoshop CS3 on Windows Vista I get this error "Setup has encountered an error and cannot continue. Contact Adobe Customer Support for assistance. Internal Error 2739" I have used the cleanup script included in Adobe Photoshop CS3 installer, and have removed all traces of Adobe apps including the beta versions and Acrobat 8 pro, and I still get the same error, how can I install this application? is there any way or do I have to reformat and reinstall windows?

    Hello everyone,
I was having the same issue:
"Setup Error. Setup has encountered an error and cannot continue. Contact Adobe Customer Support for assistance. Quit."
If you receive this error also, press Quit and follow these steps:
    1. Start
    2. Control Panel
    3. Administrative tools (in classical view)
    4. Event Viewer
    5. Application
You will see something like this:
Double-Click for error (emphasized by red color). I have an error like this:
"Error 1327.Invalid Drive: E:\" if you have the same or e.g. Drive F:\ ir whatever letter, you should solve this problem extremely easy - just insert USB-flash into computer (it will launch as E\ or whatever disk) and than run installation again. It will work than.
Setup doesnt start if disk is offline.

Your Mac Pro 2008 should have no problems with CS6.  Not sure about CC or CC2014. Note that Adobe stills sells CS6 with a perpetual license.
I run CS6 13.0.6 on a 2996 Mac Pro 1,1 without any problems or slowdowns whatsoever.  Just make sure you have your Mac equipped with plenty of RAM, a physically separate HD for Photoshop's scratch, and a video card with enough VRAM on it.  See my machine's specs below.
Intel Xeon Mac Pro 1,1 [late 2006] 2.66 GHz Quad; 16 GB RAM; mutant/flashed, factory-overclocked 875/1225 "Apple PowerColor" ATI Radeon HD 5770 with 1 GB of GDDR5VRAM driving side-by-side dual 22"/24" monitors in Extended-Desktop mode; Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 and Snow Leopard 10.6.8 boot drives; intrusive Spotlight and frivolous Dashboard permanently disabled; USB wireless 'n' available but connected to the Internet and networked via wired Ethernet. • Photoshop CS3 color management "Save for Web" problem

This problem is getting the best of me.......
After spending 3 full days researching this problem, I am no closer to finding an answer than when I started. I still cannot produce a usable image through the "Save for Web" feature of Photoshop CS3. I have read web page after web page of "Tips, Tricks and Recommendations" from dozens of experts, some from this forum, and still I have no solution... I am exhausted and frustrated to say the least. Here's the simple facts that I know at this point.
I have a web design project that was started in PS CS1. All artwork was created in photoshop and exported to JPG format by using "Save for Web". Every image displays correctly in these browsers (Safari, Camino, FireFox and even Internet Explorer on a PC).
I have recently upgraded to PS CS3 and now cannot get any newly JPG'd image to display correctly. My original settings in CS1 were of no concern to me at the time, because it always just worked, and so I do not know what they were. I have opened a few of my previous images in CS3 and found that sRGB-2.1 displays them more or less accurately. I am using sRGB 2.1 working space. Upon openning these previous image files, I get the "Missing Profile" message and of course I select "Leave as is. Do Not color manage". CS3 assumes sRGB-2.1 working space, opens the file, and all is well.
The problem is when I go to "Save for Web", the saturation goes up, and the colors change. The opposite of what most people are reporting. Here's another important point... new artwork created in CS3 does exactly the same thing, so it's not because of the older CS1 files.
I have tried every combination of "uncompensated color", "Convert to sRGB", "ICC Profile", etc. while saving. I have Converted to sRGB before saving, and my monitor is calibrated correctly.
I have tried setting the "Save for Web" page on 2-up and the "original" on the left is already color shifted before I even hit the "Save" button. Of course, the "Optimized" image on the right looks perfect because I am cheating by selecting the "Use Document Color Profile" item. Why do they even have this feature if doesn't work, or misleads you?
Does anyone have any ideas what could be happening here? Why is this all so screwed up?
CS1 worked fine out of the box.
Final note: I do have an image file I could send along that demonstrates how it is possible to display an image exactly the same in all 4 of the browsers I mentioned with no color differences. It is untagged RGB and somehow it just works.
I am very frustrated with all of this and any suggestions will be appreciated
    Thanks,
    Pete

    >> First of all... I'm using an Adobe RGB image master... I open it and get the Profile Mismatch Screen... I choose Use Enbedded profile... all looks well. Next I go to Proof Setup > Monitor RGB... again all looks well, no change that I can tell.
This has further confused the issue on several points, not the least of which version PS you are doing this with?
    >> AdobeRGB> Convert to Profile > Working Space sRGB-2.1... all still looks well... but now, when I go to Proof Setup > Monitor RGB... I see the insane oversaturated look that is driving me nuts.
That is your strongest clue...it sounds like you have a bad system or bad monitor profile. To rule out the monitor profile: Set sRGB as your monitor profile in System Prefs> Displays> Color.
    >> Adobe RGB image master... I open it and get the Profile Mismatch Screen... I choose Use Enbedded profile... all looks well. Next I go to Proof Setup > Monitor RGB... again all looks well
That doesn't make sense, stripping an embedded AdobeRGB profile should desaturate the color in Softproof MonitorRGB, especially the reds -- you have something wacky going on there.
At this point I think you need to review the links and get a grip about how color management and profiles work...
BTW, forget about setting ColorSync in PS COlor Settings, use Adobe ACE.
    MO,
I think SFW is fixed under CS3 :) By default it Converts to sRGB and strips the profile.

  • Trouble installing Photoshop CS3

I've just recently had a clean install on my Apple iMac. I'm now re-installing all the software that I need. I'm having a problem installing Photoshop CS3. I have the folder, the serial number, and its on the list of products registered with Adobe. How do I install?

If your lucky, using the photoshop cs3 unistaller in the Applications>Utilites>Adobe Installers>Add or Remove Adobe Photoshop CS3
    might work for unistalling cs3.
Then doing a fresh install from the dvd or downloader installer might work.
If not, then you'll have to download and run the CC Cleaner Tool
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html
Then search around on your hard drive (check especially hard  drive>library>application support adobe, as well as Applications)
and remove all the bits you can find, then reinstall from your original  installation media.
Do you have any later versions of photoshop like cs4 already installed?

  • Photoshop CS3 Colors Displaying Incorrectly

I just bought a copy of Photoshop CS3 and I have it installed on my desktop and my laptop.  Photoshop CS3 is working fine on my laptop, but the colors aren't displaying correctly on my desktop.  I'll construct an image, save it and open it in another program or a browser, and the colors will be a little different.  I've attached a screenshot to better illustrate my point.  I'm stumped and any help with this is appreciated.

    Mr Technique
In case you don't undertand, that is one technique that does not work.
You would be advised NOT to pass it on to any friends who have colour problems on their display.

  • 10.5.3 Seems to have solved Photoshop CS3/Spaces problem

I've just backed up and installed the 10.5.3 update. The only remaining problem with PS CS3 and Leopard was using Spaces and finding out that the Palettes, Tool Bar and Options Bar would frequently not redraw, depending on how you used Spaces. Twenty minutes worth of testing and that issue seems to have been resolved. The update for my Mac Pro was 420mb and required one OKed and two automatic restarts. It's a bit of a process.
    So far so good!

    Hi Everyone!
I too have this bug on my Mac Pro at work and my iMac at home. I use Spaces religiously so this bug is extremely annoying.
I went ahead and reported this bug to Adobe. I suggest that everyone else do the same.
I haven't been able to fix the blinking cursor without restarting Photoshop but here are some ways to avoid it:
    1. Switch spaces using CTRL + Arrow Keys / Number of Space instead viewing all of the spaces in a grid.
    2. If you are like me and prefer the grid you can avoid the blinking cursor by making sure the Type tool or Marquee tool is NOT selected in Photoshop before you switch Spaces. If you have another tool such as the Move tool selected when you switch Spaces you will not get the blinking cursor when you switch to the Type or Marquee tools after returning from another Space.
Let's hope Adobe gets this fixed ASAP.
    Mike
