Photoshop CS3 White screen

Hi,
I'm working for a school and we have 2 lab of 38 pc's running photoshop.
All the 76 pc's are core 2 quad Q8200 with 2go of ram running Windows xp pro
all pc's give us the same error.
When we work on a picture after a few moment, the tool box disappear.
after another few moment of working, the working space become white.
ex: I can reproduce the problem anytime on any of our pc with any picture with the polygonal lasso tool, when I try to make a selection after (approx) 30 click, I loose my picture and I only get my lasso on a white page.
I found a way to work but, for student, it's not acceptable... If I zoom the picture and it become larger then the screen, when the working space become white, I move the mouse down, the picture move and come back.
after a few time, photoshop freeze(not windows) and we can't continue to work at all...
I tought it might be the windows so I test it on 2 other different fresh install of windows without any other software installed but still the same problem.
I tought it might be the core 2 quad (maybe photoshop doesn't like it (not sure of it)) I replace the cpu for a core 2 duo E8400. Worked for a longer time, toke me more then 100 click (approx) but it still doing the same problem.
We can't go on CS4 for now
is there anything I missed that can fix our problem?
Thanks
Frank

New information....
I made more test and finally all our pc crash with photoshop even the laptop.
... we use French stuff... windows xp pro french and CS3 french...
I tried to install windows xp pro English with cs3 in english... stable, can't make it crash (still try to make it crash)
so I tried to install cs3 english on french windows and cs3 french on english windows to know which one is causing the problem between photoshop and windows.
at the first boot, the cs3 english on french windows crash
even after many reboot, the cs3 french on english windows is still stable.
So I think the problem is something (a dll or any other components) from french windows that is causing our problem.
is anyone ever heard from a problem with french windows xp?
(I tried to set the regional option to english united-state, doesn't change anything.)
Thanks

  • Photoshop CS3 white screen / freeze

had CS3 for over a year or so(legit on work computer) and this just started happening this week. at start up and/or after a few minutes in photoshop CS3 it freezes, goes to white screen and hangs and becomes useless. it starts off lagging like if i turn layers on and off takes a moment to change, if i mask something marquee slowly moves or stops moving altogether, flip between different workspaces, open and close files large and small, any of those it freezes and dies having to force it to close. i have photoshop CS2 also installed and it runs fine. everything else CS3 works (illustrator, acrobat etc.)
    things ive tried:
    1. reinstalling: ver10 of disk does this as well as 10.1 update
    2. delete preferences: from docs and settings as well as thru Photoshop
    3. cache purge
    4. yelling
    5. change scratch disk: i have 3 internal drives
    6. memory test
    7. turn anti virus on and off
    8. change page filing size
    help anyone?

I'd remove them. if they're critical, only put them back when you need them in another app, or get a font manager.
photoshop is very persnickety about fonts and will have problems with a font that's not exactly right, where another app might overlook an internal font error. my guess is there IS something funny about those fonts, but the other apps ignore the parts that are "broken".

    > and as the only way another user could reply is if they had that EXACT problem and also had a solution,
I've noticed this message from you several times, John. Often in cases like this where there is a possibility that another user has had the exact same problem, and thus might have an answer.
I suggest that you shorten your message to "You may need to contact Adobe for help, and the following two lines" which will seem less naggy.

  • White Lines appear on Images in Adobe Photoshop CS3

White Lines appear on Images in Adobe Photoshop CS3
Recently discover that on three different computers, while editing images in Adobe Photoshop CS3, white lines would appear on some of the images.
For example changing a image from a .jpg to a .psd or size, or enchantment features, the white lines would appear on the image.
The lines did not appear on any of the printed images, any suggestions.
    Monitor: Sony Trintron Multiscan G4110
    Computer: Mac G5

    >The lines did not appear on any of the printed images,
Although it is odd that three computers exhibit the same problem, and unless you can provide other coincidences (same files, same monitor, etc.), I agree. The video card is typically the culprit IF the image anomalies don't print and if they move about with each image resizing or opening of a specific image. Check to see if it's properly seated and connected. Same for monitor cable. Try swapping in another card.
One other thought: as this is a CRT monitor, what happens if you change the resolution and refresh rate? Are you using a recommended combination for that monitor?

  • Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended freezes on startup under Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit - No splash screen

I installed my licensed copy of Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended today as part of my install a bunch of software after a reinstall of Windows (due to viruses).  I did a completely fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.  I've used Photoshop CS3 Extended for quite a while now so I know what to expect on startup but it was previously installed under Windows XP Professional (32-bit). Figured I would give Windows 7 a chance this time around.
Google searches aren't turning up anything.  When I attempt to start the application, I get a window with the title "Adobe Photoshop CS3" (no "Extended" - I seem to recall the title changes later) and the toolbar appears.  However, no splash screen appears and no Product Activation wizard appears - the application simply freezes on an empty frame and a toolbar.  I've tried running Photoshop as Administrator (right-click, "Run As Administrator"), but nothing changed there.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling.  I tried upgrading to CS3 10.0.1.  Nothing works.  The application simply freezes before it gets anywhere.
I tried calling Adobe Support since this technically falls under installation issues but their phone support systems are down today.  Go figure.
Edit:  I hooked into Photoshop with the Visual Studio debugger and every single thread is executing some variation of WaitForSingleObject() or WaitForMultipleObjects().  The main thread is "executing" somewhere in AdobeLM_libFNP.dll (at address 09619d81 - if I had debugging symbols for CS3, I could provide a function).  There are nine threads "running" at the point the freeze occurs - but all of them are technically suspended due to the functions they are executing - and one thread is in a suspended state.

And, according to the Event Viewer, the "Binary" data translates to a zero-terminated Unicode string of "Cross-thread".
My Visual Studio analysis was far more informative.  All threads are hung inside of WaitForSingleObject() and WaitForMultipleObjects() calls and the DLL in question appears to be FlexNet-related.  I did forget to mention that I also even manually started the FlexNet service in case, for some strange reason, Photoshop was waiting for it to start.  That also did not work.
(And there is nothing in the Action Center control panel either despite the message saying there might be more information there.)
Edit:  The timestamp above might be a little odd-looking.  I didn't originally see anything in Event Viewer until I clicked the first button to send an Error Report.  Mostly I just skipped that part of killing a process.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS3 crashing at open file screen

    Hi all
I've searched online but can't find a relative discussion or solution.
I have Adobe Photoshop CS3. My system is Windows 7 and it's 64-bit (that's about as far as my hardware/technical knowledge goes...).
The problem has only started happening today. Open PS, and go to FILE>OPEN. A sub screen is opened. On the left of this sub-screen are a variety of short cut locations such as 'My Documents', 'My Pictures' and 'My Computer'. Clicking on any of these shortcut tabs results in PS crashing.
The only thing I can think of that has changed since the last time I used PS CS3 on my machine (and I use it daily) is the following:
Installed trial version of Autodesk AutoCAD LT 2014
From this, to watch a Flash video of AutoCAD demo I had to download the latest version of Adobe Flash Player (it was 2011 I believe).
Following the CS3 crashing problems I uninstalled Flash player and re-started but still no luck.
    Have not touched AutoCAD yet.
Any thoughts / comments? My company is looking to invest in AutoCAD so CS3 will need to learn to live alongside AutoCAD (IF AutoCAD is the problem, but I think this is unlikely).
Let me know what you all think!
    Thanks
    David

    Thanks for all the replies.
We (myself and our company IT guy) just tried several of the above, plus some other things.
    1. Shift/ctl/alt reset preferences. Did not solve the problem.
    2. Video driver upgrade. Did not solve the problem.
    3. Complete reinstall of CS3. Did not solve the problem.
    4. Install old video driver (apparently this solved a similar problem in another area of the company). Did not solve the problem.
    5. System rollback/restore (to 20-11-2013 settings). PROBLEM SOLVED!
We have a suspicion therefore that the Autodesk AutoCAD LT 2014 may be something to do with it. We will find out later/tomorrow as I need to get some stuff done in CS3 now (can't afford more lost time!).
Will update once we have reinstalled AutoCAD LT 2014 as to whether this changed anything.
    Thanks again
    David

  • Photoshop CS3 10.0.1 - Launch hangs on Registration Screen, All menu items grayed out

    I'm using Adobe Photoshop CS3 10.0.1.
When launching, the window labeled "Adobe Design Suite Premium CS3" opens - it's only filled with white, and no text or graphics (I think it's usually the window asking me if I want to register, which always comes up when I launch the program (rather annoying in itself).  However, now it seems that the launch gets "hung" on this window, as, even the the program starts, all the menus are grayed out, and I can't open any files or do anything.  Also, the window mentioned above only has the yellow "minimize" button available in the top left corner, so I can't close it or otherwise get rid of it.  Since even the Quit function is grayed out, I have to quit the program with a force quit.  Also, this same thing happens in my other CS3 programs (In Design) as well.
I tried trashing the photoshop plist file (com.adobe.photoshop.plist) and also the com.adobe.118.registration file, which had no effect.
Any advice on how I can fix this?
    Thanks!

Hopefully this solution will work for you:

  • I cannot play a video .mov file in Photoshop Elements 12, it shows as a blank white screen

I cannot play a video file (.mov) in Adobe Photoshop Elements, only can hear sound, and shows as a blank white screen.

    Margie
    Thanks for the replies.
I did some homework on your camera, and it appears to be recording H.264 video compression, Linear PCM Stereo, with a .mov file extension.
Let us do a check list to make sure we agree on the details...
    a. You cannot play back the video in the Elements Organizer 12
    b. Can you import this video into Premiere Elements 12 Expert workspace with the program's Add Media/Files and Folder/Project Assets? Does it then show up in Project Assets with an image in the thumbnail? Can you drag the video from Project Assets to the Timeline and have the Edit Mode monitor display that video and play it back there when you hit the monitor play button?
From what I have read of your camera, you could be recording 1920 x 1080 @ 60 progressive frames per second. Can you supply an information on that? What are you or the project setting as the project preset (See Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and the readings for Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Size, and Pixel Aspect Ratio.)
Could you explain what you mean by
and can play it in the video editor, but it just shows the frames, not a real video play.
I am searching the Internet to see if I can find a sample file that I can download.
    More later.

  • Photoshop CS3 Register Now/Later Screen not loading

    Mac OSX 10.7.5
I have been using the CS3 products (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) every day for many years at work.
    Working fine yesterday.
Try to use them today, the register now/later screen won't load properly (blank screen) so I can't select either option and can't use the apps. We usually "register later" without issue whenever it appears.
Any suggestions on what's causing the issue? Console logs aren't useful.
    Cheers.

Thanks to all of you!  And "rebob," I beg your pardon... I didn't even know my router was working!  I was still able to logon to the internet even after disconnecting it from my computer.  As soon as I disconnected the router too, and ensure I was indeed off of the internet, it worked the first time!  Thanks again!

  • Screen Flickering in Adobe Photoshop CS3 and CS4

I experience screen flickering in Adobe Photoshop CS3 and CS4 when I move my mouse around on the screen. Basically any mouse movement will create flickering. The more and faster I move my mouse the more flickering occurs.
    System Specs
    - Windows 7 64bit Ultimate
    - Intel i7 3.2GHz Extreme
    - ASUS Rampage II Extreme Mobo
    - Corsair Dominator 6GB 1866MHz (Triple Channel)
    - Dual eVGA Nvidia GTX 285 Superclocked Graphics Cards in SLI
    - Dual 60GB OCZ Vertex Series SDDs in RAID0
    - Corsair 1000Watt PSU
    - CPU and both GPUs are water cooled
    - Logitech G-15 Keyboard
    - Logitech G-9 Mouse
    - ASUS 26" LCD VK266H monitor (1920x1200 @ 60Hz) DVI
    - I have the latest BIOS and all of the most up-to-date drivers installed for every piece of hardware.
I have photoshop set to use the maximum allowable amount of memory. The memory slider in photoshop maxes out at 3.25GB which equates to about 50% of my total system memory.
The screen flickering does not occur in any other application or game, only in Photoshop. I have tried every possible Nvidia Control Panel setting for this application, and nothing seems to have an effect on the flicker.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem, or any recommendations?

Aside from the potential SLI issue, you might want to study your Logitech mouse driver.
Going back a bit, several versions of the MS InteliPoint mouse driver caused just what you describe. I have not heard of this with Logitech, but did have some other issues with their SetPoint drivers. In my case, I ditched their keyboard, but kept the mouse (love it), and did away with SetPoint, using the generic driver. All functions that I needed were handled, and SetPoint was out of the equation.
Something else to look at, and good luck,
    Hunt

  • Photoshop CS3 Windows XP Welcome Screen How to redisplay it?

Ok I realize this is a very newbie question and I am sure there is a very easy answer but I looked in the help menu and the knowledge base to no avail.
I stupidly checked the "Don't show again" box on the Welcome Screen in Photoshop CS3 thinking I could redisplay it later easily, however, I am not finding how to do it. I figured it would be like my Illustrator CS3 and be in the help > welcome screen but it isn't.
I'd kinda like to have it redisplay on start up for Photoshop. Please help me to "undo" a blonde moment mistake. Thank you for your time and I hope you had a good laugh at my expense.;) I would laugh but I'm too frustrated for not figuring this out. :)

I hope I don't sound condescending... I just want to understand the issue, so maybe I can help.... but do you mean Photoshop CS2 or CS, perhaps?
My 2nd thought was that you were trying to open CS3's splash screen after Photoshp was loaded; but that has no "Don't show again" prompt, so that can't be it...
Last thought: do you have *both* Photoshop CS3 and CS2 (or CS) installed? It's the only thing I can think of that may be causing confusion, as I have personally mixed up options / features between them when I had them all installed. (Until recently, I had
all versions of Photoshop from 7 to CS3 Extended installed at the same time!) :P
Don't ask me why. I am a digital packrat. :p
    edit: one more thing...
You mentioned Illustrator CS3 having this welcome screen feature, and that its help file shows a way to restore it. I don't have Illustrator CS3; but it sounds like this version of Illustrator still uses the welcome screen, though its Photoshop counterpart doesn't. ;)

Sorry that's untrue. I have Photoshop CS3 running on 10.9.
CS9 or 10? Now you are just making stuff up.
Adobe claim CS3 will work, with a minor issue…

The Adobe updater fails to work for me.
I was prompted to install J6RE which came from Apple, check the Apple support downloads http://support.apple.com/downloads/#java%206
Sorry can't provide a direct link, it was just a dumb 'You need … please click install' dialog.
I think the 10.9 java updater is installing version 7.

  • White screen crash because of free Photoshop app??

I keep experiencing white screen crash roughly 6 or 7 times a day and to be honest I'm sick of it!!
I did a system restore, so my Iphone was restored to factory settings, effectively wiping everything of the memory. Apart from the images I had taken and the images I used for editing my photo's in the free photoshop app.
I am wondering if anyone else has discovered this app as being as issue related to crashes?
Also I have now removed these photo's and all photo's from my Iphone. So according to everyone's suggestion to avoiding white screen crash, I should not experience it as often as I am. Unless this is related the the problematic release of the 3.1.3 OS so called update.
    Thanks

Update: removing the photo's has effectively made it worse - upon resetting the Iphone and the switching it back on, when the apple icon appears, after a few secs it's already crashing again. HELP!!!

Hi I have this problem from a long time.
I have changed my computer too but the problem continues.
Now I'm using Windows 7 64 bit, Photoshop CS3 (updated), ATI Radeon HD 3450 (latest driver), two monitor (one connected by DVI and the other by VGA)
The computer is a Dell XPS 630i with 8Gb RAM and a lot free space in the harddisk.

I open some photos and drag two or three into another. When I press the F key Photoshop crash!! 99% it crashes!!
the problem is identic using mouse and click to maximize the window.
Sometimes if you wait some seconds photoshop doesn't crash but this is not matematical!
    Can you help me?
AH! when I have seen the Photoshop's preferences -- Performance I can not choose GPU setting because it writes that it's not available in windows XP (I'm usign Seven now)
The old pc worked with windows XP...
    Thank you!!

If you Google your computer and windows 7 you will see there are a lot of issues running Windows 7 on it.
Here is the dell support webpage for your machine. There are a few updates for Windows 7 64 bit. There is also a Bios update that you may need to apply for Windows 7 too.

  • About Using Magnetic Lasso Tool In Photoshop CS3 Extended

    Hi All
I seem to be having a problem using the Magnetic Lasso Tool In Photoshop CS3 Extended as when I get half way around an egales beak zoomed in at 66.67% and start to single click around the tight corners the photo is covered over with a white background and the palettes to the right of the Photo e.g. layers, channels, paths becomes white to and all you can see is the paths that the Magnetic Lasso Tool has made around the beak until you click any key on the keyboard but the annoying thing about doing that is that the path automatically becomes selected there for I am unable to draw the paths around the rest of the beak does anyone know of a patch of some kind that will correct this error?
Many Thanks For Reading This And May Be Replying To it.
    All The Best. Regards,
    Oliver
P.S I have downloaded and installed all of the updates for all Adobe and Adobe CS3 Software.

    Oliver,
We have the same exact issue here with the Polygonal Lasso tool. Get anywhere from 20-80% around an object and it hiccups once and then locks up for a moment causing you to loose whatever you've been selecting.
Symptoms include toolbars and palettes turning white and screen freezing for a moment.
Is there an official word on this from Adobe? Or better yet, a solution?
    Thanks,
    George
