Photoshop cs3 + windows vista + intuos 3

I am working with "photoshop cs3" "windows ultimate vista" and an "wacom intuos 3" tablet and I experience heavy lags while drawing like the brush-strokes don't quite follow my moves, and I have to wait for them to catch up.
When I open a large file and I try to apply the first brush stroke on my drawing the cursor screen disappears for a while and photoshop is not responding.
Then Photoshop comes back so the cursor and I can start to work. But as soon as I drag the page using the little Hand tool photoshop stops responding again for few more seconds and when it restarts I can hardly control the direction of my new brush strokes.
Apparently in order to restart the only remedy I found (by chance) is by toggling the layer visibility status (change a layer from visible to not and back to visible again). After this exercise I can draw in photoshop again! But of course same problems again as soon as I will use the hand tool and move on the screen again!!!
Any idea about what could be behind my problems!?
What should I check?
(These problems started after last week immediately after re installation of vista on my machine, I never had this problem with vista photoshop and intuos on that same machine before!)
Thanks
Mario

I have CS3, Vista Ultimate and an Intuos3 tablet. No lags or delays now. But I used to have them and many were reported on the Wacom Users Forum when Vista first came out. I can't remember now what the fix was - have a look on the Wacom Users' Forum. If you had it running ok on your previous Vista installation some software setting must have changed in the new installation. Things that may help are:
get latest Nvidia vga card drivers (if you have an Nvidia card); get the latest Wacom driver; Logitech Setpoint software conflicting - the latest is ok for me; disable/switch off the Vista Pen and Input device.
Sorry, I can't remember the fixes but they should be available if you dig around in the Wacom Users' Forum.

  • Fonts Not Available in Photoshop CS3 (Windows 7)?

    Hello,
My desktop computer crashed yesterday and I had to run out last night and pick up a new unit as I'm trying to meet a number of deadlines (and not having much luck getting the work done in my laptop).
The new computer uses Windows 7 as the Operating System.  It has already presented a ton of headaches... I've already spent in excess of ten hours trying to reinstall hardware and dealing with the various quirks that arise.
The latest of these issues is that I cannot seem to access some fonts from Photoshop CS3.  I'm having the same issue, to a lesser extent, in Illustrator 10.
For instance, after downloading the Helvetica and Helvetica Neue families in Windows 7, they do not appear in the Type menu in Photoshop.  There are a ton of useless pre-installed fonts there, but not the ones I installed.  If I try to access them from Illustrator, it displays only one weight of each typeface (for instance, it displays Helvetica Neue 65 but omits 55, 75, 95, etc....).
The issue does not occur for all fonts.  For instance, I installed AvantGarde and it displays just fine.  In that instance, the fonts were TrueType whereas the Helvetica font files are Type 1 font files.
Can anyone help?  I've already lost a day-and-a-half of work, and can't afford to spend much more time screwing around with this nonsense.

    Bill,
Thanks for your thoughtul and thorough reply.
To clarify, I do have a copy of ATM, but just have not installed it on my XP computer or this new one.  It is on my Illustrator 10 install disk.  Not sure if it will work on Windows 7, as Illustrator 10 would not run on the new computer until I set the compatibility to work with Vista and earlier.  I suppose that I could install it and see if it works.  Might be worth a shot.
I will check out the software titles you referenced.
With regard to font installation on Windows 7, there are three techniques as far as I can tell.  They are:
    1) Drag and drop method: Works the same as it always has.  Simply drag the typefaces into the Fonts folder or Control Panel > Fonts.
    2) You can navigate to where a font file is located (the desktop, for instance) and then right-click on it and choose "Install."  This is what I referred to previously, and I tried it after drag-and-drop did not work.
    3) For the third method (according to Windows 7 documentation I found online at http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7desktop/thread/324ecdc6-8574-4527-8099- efc430bf550f), you are supposed to be able to go into the Control Panel > Fonts, press ALT (to display the menu) and then choose File > Install New Font.  You would then be prompted to navigate to the typeface you want to install.  However, this option is not available on my computer.  When I tried it, I can access the File menu, but "Install New Font" is not listed on the dropdown.

  • Photoshop CS3, Windows XP

I have both Photoshop CS3 and Photoshop Elements 6 on my computer. When I click on a .psd file it opens Elements to read it, and I want it to open CS3. How can I fix this? Thanks so much for your help.

    For Windows XP:
Open Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer)
Go to Tools > Folder options
    Select the File Types tab
Scroll down to PSD and click the Change button and change it to Photoshop.
I haven't had to do this on Vista, but I would presume it would be similar.

calibrating requires a hardware calibration utility. if you have an LCD monitor, make sure that the utility you get supports LCD calibration.
some names of hardware kits you can get include ColorVision Spyder/Spyder2 and Pantone Huey, but there are others out there as well.
Note that you may have installed updates via Windows Update that installed an ICC profile for your monitor, as this is a new thing with Vista. ICC profiles that are provided by a monitor manufacturers do not contain the same information as an ICC profile created by a calibration utility. to test if this is the problem, launch Photoshop and you might get a warning saying "The monitor profile 'profile name' appears to be defective. Please rerun your monitor calibration software." Clicking the "Ignore Profile" button will prevent Photoshop from using this profile and causing the discoloration. If you do not see this warning, open the PS preferences by clicking the 'Edit->Preferences..>General' menu option, click the "Reset All Warning Dialogs" button at the bottom, then restart Photoshop.

  • Photoshop and Windows Vista Compatibility

Will my Photoshop Elements 12 run on Windows Vista or do I have to upgrade?

    60something wrote:
I'm quite new to this game so what did you mean by "Service Pack 2?"
Right click 'Computer' on your desktop, and chose Properties.  Near the top of the panel that opens, you'll see Windows Vista.  If it does not say Service Pack 2 beneath that, use Windows update.
Or treat yourself to a new computer.  Anything would be better than something running Vista, and Photoshop would be so much nicer to use.
If you take me seriously, please ask us before committing to a particular model.

  • Where can I download a trial of Photoshop for Windows Vista?

I'm trying to get photoshop on an old WIndows Vista machine and it's saying it isn't compatible. I have photoshop running on XP on a different machine and the key is there, so all I need to do is install Photoshop trial on here. The disk is missing, also, so that isn't an option.

Which version of Photoshop are you trying to install on Vista?

  • Installing Photoshop on Windows Vista....HELP!

    Can someone PLEASE help me?
I had a PC which got hit by lighting and now it is d-e-a-d dead. It has Windows XP on it and it also had all my programs. I have Photoshop version 6, with the CS2 upgrade. I have product key and paid for it.
I went out and bought a laptop, and it has Windows Vista on it. I can't seem to install my Photoshop because it won't even read my ver 6 disk. It will read the CS2 disk, but since it is only an upgrade, it keeps asking for anther ver and stupid Vista won't read my ver 6! ARG!
What am I do to? I downloaded a patch for Vista and PS, but it is for ver 7 and higher......but I have 6! It's not like I run 6 anymore, I use the CS2, but i need to install 6 to get CS2 on the machine.
Does ANYONE know what I can or should do? I soooooooo need my program working, I am losing work over this!
    HELP!

    > You have to have version 7 for the upgrade.
Not for CS2. But the problem is that the OP is using a DVD drive. This
was a known issue installing CS2 upgrades. The installer couldn't read the earlier version from a DVD drive.

  • Photoshop CS3 - Windows 8.1

I had Photoshop CS3 installed on my previous computer.  I now have a new computer with Windows 8.1.  Is there any way to make it compatible with 8.1?  CS3 was originally downloaded from the Adobe site and I still have the serial numbers.  I can't find a download for CS3 on the website to reinstall it.  Am I out of luck?

Are there any issues with this Operating System and Photoshop CS3 Web Premium?
You bet there are. Starting with Win 7 the print engine and certain other parts of Windows have changed and naturally the new security menchanisms may require compatibility modes and a lot of trickery already upon install. It's not impossible, but issues should definitely be expected - some small, some more critical.

  • How can I install the photoshop in windows vista

How can I install the photoshop in windows vista

Windows 7 was the first Microsoft OS that needed fewer resources than its predecessor, it will run faster than Vista on the same system).  Windows 7 is also a really nice OS, whereas Vista…  well let’s just say it isn’t!  So if you are investing in a shiny new version of Photoshop, why not do the job properly and upgrade your OS as well?  It will make you very happy.

  • Photoshop CS3 Windows à installer sur MAC

    Bonjour,
Je suis propriétaire d'une licence  Photoshop CS3 pour PC Windows et je viens de changer de PC. Je viens d'acheter un Mac Book et je voudrais installater ma version de photoshop sur mon MAC Book. Comment faire, SVP?
    Message was edited by: domitoussaint

you can't install pc apps on a mac (or vice-versa).  you need to purchase a copy of ps for your mac.
adobe allows users to swap platforms, but only for current products, http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/order-product-platform-language-swap.htm l
your options are to look for a third party or move up to ps cc.  adobe has a time-limited special for $9.99/mo that includes photoshop and lightroom and bridge, http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/buying-guide.html
