Photoshop CS4 action - No overwrite Dialog Box ?

In Photoshop CS3, when an action tries to save a new file with a filename that already exists, it brings up a warning Dialog Box, which is very helpful to avoid mistakingly overwriting files.
However it looks like CS4 does NOT ask, and simply overwrites, like much older versions of Photoshop.
Is there any way to turn this dialog back ON?

I'm not creating any Batch Processing, so I don't think this works for me.
Regarding the Interface, I already do have the quirky tabbed interface turned off, but there are numerous other side-effects that are undesireable.
For instance, it is very difficult to determine which document is currently active; previously, it was obvious which document was active, as the title bar turns the color of your Windows setup. Distinguishing the current active document is extremenly helpful in preventing the use from making adjustments to the incorrect document. Also, document windows now cover up the palettes; very troublesome. Dragging images from Internet Explorer windows docks the images, even when you have docking turned off. Just to name a few.....
I've seen too many companies go down this road of redesigning the user interface away from standard windows, and it always results in disaster.
Maybe they'll finally listen with CS5.....

  • Dreamweaver CS4 - Update Template Files dialog box doesn't appear

    I've just made a small change to my website's template file in Dreamweaver CS4, but I can't figure out how to apply the change to all pages on my site.
    As I understand it, a dialog box is supposed to appear immediately after you hit 'Save'. This gives you 'Update' or 'Don't Update' options.
    The box does not appear for me. No idea why - I saved the revised template and nothing happened!
    Is there another way of updating the webpage files with the revised template? Or can it only be done though the dialog box? If so, how can I bring the box up?
    Thanks for any tips, tricks, or explanations...

    Well, I'm not sure what rule I've broken. I followed the procedure set out in that tutorial to make my template in the first place, although I used Janine Warner's book 'Teach yourself Dreamweaver CS4' which goes through the same steps as the web tutorial - with the exception of the 'Apply your Dreamweaver template' section, which seems to suggest that you create your web pages first, and turn them into templates later.
    I simply created my basic page layout, saved it as a template, and then created every page on my site by clicking 'New from template'. No problems, everything worked well.
    I don't see why it would be necessary to create a new page from a template, and then apply the template to the page. Doesn't that amount to using two different methods to do the same thing twice? In any case, there's nothing in the book about 'Applying' a template, so I didn't do it. That's the only point of difference. But is it the problem? Is the book wrong?
    Now I've got the book open in front of me at page 196 - 'Edit a template to update web pages created with it'. Interestingly, I may have discovered why it was not possible to edit my link in the Property Inspector.
    The book remarks, more or less as an afterthought tacked on to the end of the page, that in order to use the Property Inspector to edit a template, I must first click on the element I wish to edit and then click 'Modify', 'Templates', and 'Make Attribute Editable'. Only then can changes be made.
    The book says nothing about editing elements *without* using the Property Inspector, as I attempted when I tried the 'Insert Hyperlink' method, so I'm not sure whether this is possible or not. As it didn't work for me, I'd say not - but it would be nice if the book was specific on this point!
    It's amazing how vague some of these tutorials can be - and also rather baffling that they can differ so much from each other. Website construction is all about specifics after all - everything is either 100% right, or 100% wrong. There shouldn't be any room for fuzziness. As it seems I have a specific problem, it must come from a specific, identifiable cause. It should be possible to say, "Ah, now if THAT is going wrong, the error must be HERE. Fix it by doing THIS."
    Well, I'll try making the attributes of my elements editable now. I'm not sure if a text link counts as an element (that's another point on which my book is a little vague), but I dare say I'll find out shortly!

  • Photoshop elements 2 print preview dialog box

    I'm running PSE 2 on a PC with Windows XP and an old Dell monitor with 800x600 resolution.  Problem: when I check the "More Options box, the box cuts off  at "Print Space"  And I can't control communication between PSE and the printer.  I've fooled with the windows control panel etc. to try to reduce the size of the dialog box to no avail.  PSE preferences does 't help either.   Am I doomed?

    Are you sure you can't change the resolution to 1024 x 768 pixels?

  • Feature Request: Ability to Not Have an Action Button in Dialog Box

    As it stands, the dialog box requires you to have an "OK" button, and a "Cancel" button (names can be changed...) - both of which will dismiss the dialog box. More buttons than that and you have to define an accessory view or put buttons in the views - all of which is fine, except when a dialog box is used more like an application frame, in which case it would be preferrable if only one button dismissed the dialog box (e.g. 'Done').
    Rob

    Here's an undocumented way to create a dialog with just a single "Done" button.  Not sure you want to rely on this though :-;
    local LrDialogs = import 'LrDialogs'
    local LrFunctionContext = import 'LrFunctionContext'
    local LrTasks = import 'LrTasks'
    local LrView = import 'LrView'
    local function findButton (x, label, visited)
        if visited == nil then visited = {} end
        if type (x) ~= "table" or visited [x] then return nil end
        visited [x] = true
        if x._WinClassName == "AgViewWinPushButton" and
           x.title == label then
            return x;
            end
        for k, v in pairs (x) do
            local result = findButton (v, label, visited)
            if result then return result end
            end
        return nil
        end
    local f = LrView.osFactory()
    local controls = f:column {
        f:static_text {title = "Look Ma! No OK or Cancel!"},
        f:edit_field {value = "fields"},
        f:push_button {title = "Do It"}}
    LrTasks.startAsyncTask (function ()
        while true do
            local okButton = findButton (controls, "OK")
            if okButton then
                okButton.enabled = false
                okButton.visible = false
                return
                end
            LrTasks.sleep (0.1)
            end
        end)
    LrDialogs.presentModalDialog {
        title = "Test", contents = controls, cancelVerb = "Done"}

  • When I try to open a PSD file, Photoshop opens the new file dialog box instead

    This does not happen with all files, but I have a few that have become corrupted it seems. I have previously opened, edited and saved these files without any difficulty, but now they will not open.
    This is what Photoshop shows when I try to open the files
    For the affected files, it does not matter if I open my Library and click on the file, or click File>Open within Photoshop. The same thing happens.
    If I click OK, then a blank file opens.
    Any ideas on how to fix the file?

    These file may be corrupt if Photoshop CS6 works otherwise.  If you upload them to a file sharing server and post a link to them I will download them and see if I can open them in the versions of Photoshop I have installed on my machines.

  • Photoshop CS4 Actions

    I know how to create actions, but I don't know how to only apply them to part of the photograph.  I can apply adjustments to only part of a photograph, but I don't know how with actions.

    I know how to create actions, but I don't know how to only apply them to part
    of the photograph.  I can apply adjustments to only part of a photograph, but
    I don't know how with actions.
    You should drop this question in the PS forum for more response.
    However, a lot of things in PS can be recorded in an action but it is not
    easy to have those on a particular part of the file. Could you specify what
    you want to have done in an action.
    And have you also considered to record the thing you want and put that in a
    separate layer with a layer mask.
    For instance say if you want to have a part that needs to be darker and you
    would like to use levels for that. Open a file and then start recording the
    action. Choose Adjustment layer levels and set this to your wishes. With
    shift key press on the create new group icon in the layer panel to place
    this adjustment layer in a new layer group. Next with option key pressed
    select layer mask for that group and this will clear the level settings with
    a black layer mask.
    Select this layer mask, then press D to set the foreground background to
    default and press B to select the Brush. Then stop recording and now you
    have a file with a hidden adjustment layer in a group with a layer mask. Set
    the brush Opacity either with 100 % or less and brush in the layer mask to
    make the part of the image you want to be darker.

  • Program Error Dialog box won't go away!

    Recently when I open almost any photoshop file, I get a dialog box that reads "Could not complete your request because of a program error"...when I click "ok" nothing happens, the dialog box remains and I can't do anything but force quit photoshop.  This has started happening out of nowhere.  Any ideas?

    Can you raise the Preferences dialog with command-K and cancel that? (Probably not, but under some circumstances this may help with unresponsive dialog.)
    Anyway, you don’t give much information:
    How To Get Help Quickly!
    Boilerplate-text:
    As with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems you might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed) by pressing command-alt-shift on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.
    System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts, cleaning caches, etc.) might also be beneficial, Onyx has been recommended for such tasks.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/onyx.html
    Weeding out bad fonts never seems to be a bad idea, either. (Validate your fonts in Font Book and remove the bad ones.)
    If 3rd party plug-ins are installed try disabling them to verify if one of those may be responsible for the problem.

  • Downlaod Student Edition Photoshop CS4

    Can you please tell me how to register a Student Edition of Photoshop CS4. No form in box for proof of ID

    Well, where do you get it from? Sorry to say so, but this doesn't sound legit. Student & Teacher editions are always the current version and CS4 is 2 versions out of date. If you bought it as "used" from someone else, that in itself is a breach of the license agreement - S&T editions cannot be sold. And even then the serial would have to come from the persoon who registered it in the first place. I'm afraid you've been had, as they say, but consider getting in touch with S&T support regardless...

  • Need action to open save dialog box and STOP there. Help!!

    So here is the background info, in case it helps to know why I am looking for this option - I am pulling photos off an internal company database. I can not access these photos as regular files - I have to go to our website, input an employee number, and right click, copy. Therefore, any options related to batch editing, if they'd even help otherwise, are out for this first step
    In the meantime, I have created an action that opens a new doc, pastes the photo in, and resizes it. Assigned f5 as the shortcut. Then, to save my dexterity (:P) I also reassigned the "open save for web & devices" shortcut to f6.
    However, this is such a massive project, and coming to a time-crunch, that I'd really like to take the action I created even further to cut out that second step (open save w/ f6).
    I've googled and apparently am not phrasing the question right, no matter how hard I try.
    HOW in the world, if possible, can I add a step to my action that simply OPENS the save for web & devices dialog box? I know how to make it open and save, but no more than that. I need to open and just STOP there, so that I can simply hit enter and input the desired file name.
    Is this possible?! I'll love you forever if you can tell me that it is and how to accomplish it! Btw, I am on Photoshop CS4.

    For your F6 save files action, record it saving a file (it doesn't matter what or where for the moment)
    Now, in the actions palette, click the right hand box where your save action is. A dialogue box will pop up saying "This will toggle the state of all dialogs in this action..." Click ok beacause we want to hand over control of the save back to the user. Now, when you run your save action the dialogue will appear and you can save the file where and as you want.
    Hope this helps.

  • Photoshop CS5 crashes when selecting print settings in print dialog box

    I work on a Mac Pro desktop with OS 10.6.4. Photoshop CS5 crashes every time I try to select "print settings" in the print dialog box. I work in a large office and our networked color printer is a Konica Minolta bizhub C451. In fact, if I hit "print" it will crash whether or not I hit "print settings" first. In CS4, there was a separate menu item that allowed you to change printer settings before going into the print dialog box. That choice is gone now, you have to select it through the print dialog box.
    This is the only way I can print out color proofs for my clients. Unfortunately, I do not have administrator rights to any printer (our office has about 100 people, only IT staff can fiddle with that). What can I do to get this solved?

    I think I have fixed it, though I'm not sure why this worked.
    System Preferences>Print & Fax. Selected the Konica Minolta printer (the B/W printer was working fine). Changed the name. Still didn't fix it. Went back selected my newly named Konica Minolta then "Open Print Queue" (like Dave said)>print settings. Change the driver to "Generic Postscript printer." I could print, but only on letter-size paper, no other options available (need tabloid). Went back to system preferences>print & fax>Konica Minolta2>open print queue>drivers then I reselected the updated printer drivers--the same one that hasn't been working.
    Now, it works.
    Thanks all for the helpful advice!

  • Printer dialog box does not appear in Photoshop CS.5

    I use Photoshop CS.5.1 with a Macbook 2013 using version 10.9.5. The printer works perfectly with all other applications but in Photoshop no printer dialog box comes up and the print job does not appear in the printers queue. Anyone the same issues?

    First, try nuking (deleting them and letting the application create new ones) your Photoshop preferences:
    To re-create the preferences files for Photoshop, start the application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"
    Note: If this process doesn't work for you while you're using a wireless (Bluetooth) keyboard, attach a wired keyboard and retry.
    Important: If you re-create the preferences by deleting the Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings file, make sure that you only delete that file. If you delete the entire settings folder, you also delete any unsaved actions or presets.
    Reinstalling Photoshop does not remove the preferences file. Before reinstalling Photoshop, re-create your preferences.
    NEW Video! Julieanne Kost created a video that takes you through two ways of resetting your Photoshop preferences. The manual preference file removal method is between 0:00 - 5:05. The keyboard shortcut method is between 5:05 - 8:18. The video is located here.
    Mac OS
    Important: Apple made the user library folder hidden by default with the release of Mac OS X 10.7. If  you require access to files in the hidden library folder to perform Adobe-related troubleshooting, see How to access hidden user library files.

  • Saving Photoshop CS5 Print dialog box presets or defaults?

    This question was asked in 2008 for PS CS3 with no answer, so I will ask it again...
    OS 10.6.4
    Using Canon iPF 5100 and 6100 printers
    CS 5 Photoshop
    Is there a way to set a preset in the PS Print dialog window for 'Photoshop manages color' and the ICC profile so that I do not have to reset them every time I print?
    Also, where does PS pull the information for the printers pop-up menu near the top of the Print dialog box? Is this a preset or is it just pulling these printer names from the OS? I ask this because when I switch between one of the iPF printers, the Print > Color Management section defaults back to 'Printer Manages Color' and greys out the profile pop-up menu.
    Thanks.

    No, no presets but you can record the settings in an action. The action can record printer, printer settings and color management settings.

  • Photoshop CS5 32bit No HDR Pro dialog box after merge

    Hi
    I wanted to merge 3 photos using the HDR fucnction in PS CS5. Everything seems to work perfectly, I select the files and they seem to merge but at the end when the dialog box should pop up and allow me to make adjustments it just closes down. not Photoshop... but the window with whatever it is doing and leaves me with a blank normal PS screen as if I just opened up photoshop. The dialog box never appears. I tried the 64bit version and it does work normally but the 32 bit version does not. I removes any plug-ins I put there and removed my extra actions / plug-ins folder and restarted Photoshop each time but nothing made the dialog box work.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi Mike, you have me at a loss.  I assume we've corresponded in the past.
    I'm sorry that I can't think of another thing to tweak in this case to see if you can get it to work.  I assume you've let it run a long time.
    Do you see any errors in your Windows System or Application Event Logs that might yield more info?
