Photoshop CS4 Extended, issues with resolution and font sizes on Mac

I have Photoshop CS4 Extended, which worked fine on my old 15 inch Macbook Pro, I think it was 2011 and had high definition display.
I now have a new 15 inch 'late 2013' Macbook Pro with retina display (2880 x 1800), and OS 10.9.4
I have 2 problems:
1) Using photoshop now, the resolution is a lot worse than with my old computer, even though my screen is higher resolution.
For example, the images themselves are worse resolution on my display, far less crisp and more pixelated than any of my other programs. And even the windows such as 'save as...' screens are terribly pixelated also. Is there a way to fix this?
2) When using the type tool, I cannot find how to change the size of the font. There used to be numbers which I could change, and also select the font type, both on the top menu bar always visible. Now there is not anymore. What there is there at the top, is what looks to be a bar on top of another bar. The top layer bar is on the left and reaches about one third of the way across the top, and I can drag it by its corner so it can extend more, but not less. It looks like there are things behind it which I cannot see, because it is over the top of them. Perhaps the text size and font options are stuck behind that. What can I do?

Hi JJMack, you said "Seems like you want a low resolution display hook and external display to it." I do not know what that means. I did a google search for "low resolution display hook" and it came up with zero results. Also I do not have an external display, only my laptop.
Does anyone know what I can do to fix this issue? I would greatly appreciate any solution.

Photoshop CS4 Extended - error 150:30 - "LicenseRecoveryLauncher" not supported on Mac OSX Yosemite 10.10

I recently upgraded to Mac OSX Yosemite 10.10
When I try to open Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended it says error 150:30 Licensing for this product has stopped working.
I followed the help advice which says to download some software to mend the problem but it wont launch - error message You can’t open the application “LicenseRecoveryLauncher” because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.
How can I fix the problem?

OS 10.7 and above uses the python script (.py) which is included in the License Recovery kit.
Mac OS X 10.7
a. Double-click the LicenseRecovery111.dmg
Note: Leave this window open and proceed to the next step.
b. Double-click your Hard Drive.
c. Double-click Applications.
d. Double-click Utilities.
e. Double-click Terminal.
f. Type “sudo python “
Note: There is a space following “python”. Do not press Return.
g. Drag LicenseRecover.py from the LicenseRecovery folder onto the Terminal Window and press Return. Note: Make sure that the Terminal window has the command and the path to the APP file. For example: "sudo python /Volumes/LicenseRecovery\ 11.6.1/LicenseRecovery/LicenseRecover.py”
h. Enter your administrator user name and password when prompted and click OK.
i. Follow the onscreen instructions.

How do I fix rotate issue with thumbnail and full size?

When I look at photos in the thumbnail view the rotation is wrong. When I click and view the photo in full screen mode, the picture auto rotates. This is frustrating and I can't figure out how to fix the problem. I've taken a Youtube screen video to showcase the problem. Any suggestions appreciated!

Using iphoto 11 9.2.1

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuild the thumbnails.
If that doesn't help:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Photoshop CS4 Extended 64bit Color glitchs and crashing?

today after a few weeks of not touching Photoshop for digital painting, i went to draw with it and my Intuos 4 Wacom Tablet. Nothing was wrong, and i was very far into the process of finishing the picture, but then suddenly Photoshop started being very weird with me. I was using layers to paint different tones over eachother, but then there was these two colors that wouldn't mix properly and caused middle-grey solid edged pixels to appear when the color was at full opacity. It was as if the two colors wouldn't mix for some reason.

Image:
Image size: approximatly 2000px x 3000px
8 Bit
RGB Color
All raster graphics, no vectors or smart objects, nothing like that involved
Computer:
8GB RAM
Quad Core Processor
512MB Video RAM (NVidia)
With just Windows 7 Ultimate running with a few minor programs and the image open in Photoshop, roughly 3GB RAM being taken up. (Just over half the resources Photoshop is allocated in it's preformance preferences (given 5189MB)).
Even after quiting Photoshop and reopening it, the problem was still there. Later on, i went to put a lense flare in on the image, and there was no abnormality such as slow down or loading etc etc, but Photoshop immedetly crashed every time after restart of the program and trying to do the same thing.
Eventually i figured out what was wrong; but it still doens't make sense because Photoshop, especially the 64bit version, is supposed to be more than capible of doing what i was using it for. I had about 25 1000px X 1000px pattern overlay patterns loaded into memory aswell. When i cleared them to the defaults, everything was no longer being glitchy. So i'm still not sure why this happened. There was no lag at all to suugest it was running out of resources, and according to Task Manager everything was running just fine too. Any insights on this occurence?

this fixed the program error for me, at least for the time being. i do use the opengl drawing thing quite a bit though, i hope they fix this. i also hope its not my machine (1 year old macbook pro). i also speeded things up on my machine by having a separate scratch disk that i plug in (a firewire 800 drive) which i thought was the program error problem at first. some of the files that were not able to open i was able to initially open by duplicating them and then opening them. but not today--i haven't been able to open anything until i turned off the opengl drawing preference. good luck whoever you are! i know how frustrating this is--believe me, i almost slammed my computer on the ground today when it wouldn't open my files!
note that overall the opengl feature, i feel, is pretty rad though--i love being able to draw and rotate the entire canvas to match the orientation of my drawing capabilities!

Issue with Adobe and Fonts

I type my papers for university out in Pages, and then export them to PDF using the free Adobe. It ALWAYS changes my font from Times New Roman to Helvetica. Every time. This is really bad because graduate applications need the font to be TNR. I desperately need help. How can I keep the font TNR even after exporting to PDF?

As for not applying links, uncheck Edit > Substitutions > Smart Links.
Don't have an answer that even I would believe regarding glyph utilization in Pages. Many fonts do not appear to offer typography panel choices.

Issues with PDF displaying fonts on a Mac

When a PDF is exported in Word for some reason the Macs in our office are unable to display a particular font. Instead large black bars are displayed where the typeface should be. No error message is received either during the export or the opening of the doc. The check box to display fonts as bitmaps if they are cannot be embedded is also toggled on. I have never seen this before and am stumped. Please help if you have seen this before or know how to fix it.

Errrmmm, sorry about the misunderstanding. I guess I should of specified better.
The NEC ND-3500AG is an optical drive. Its quite common and cheap nowadays. LaCie rebranded their external version the Lacie d2. It offers DVD/CD/DVD-R/DVDR/DVD-RW/DVDRW/DVD DL/CD-R/CD-RW capabilities.
I stuck it in the optical bay so that I wouldn't have to spend an extra $100 (for a $30 drive) on the Mac Pro when I bought it.

Satellite A200 - Picture issue with Photoshop CS4 Extended

Hi Everyone
I have a Toshiba Satellite A200 notebook and I have tried to install Photoshop CS4 Extended yesterday.

I have updated the ATI driver, uninstalled and reinstalled CS4 and its still not working. I also have Photoshop Elements 6 which is opening the same images perfectly so it mus be a CS4 and A200 compatibility problem - does anyone know how to fix this or what the problem could be?

Maybe you should update your Photoshop CS4 Extended software.
In my opinion this could solve this issue because as you said the picture can be edited properly using the Photoshop Elements 6.
I think its ONLY a Photoshop CS4 Extended software issue.

Deploying Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended over Network - issue

Hi all,
I'm hoping anyone can help me with this issue that has plagued me for a few weeks! First of all, here's the details I have:
* Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended - downloaded media from Adobe website
* Creative Suite Deployment Toolkit - again, downloaded from Adobe website
* Installing to Windows XP with SP3
I ran Creative Suite Deployment Toolkit and set it up including our Volume Licensing key and it output some files including the XML files. I double clicked the AdobeUberInstaller.exe file and it got installed without any issue.
However, when I ran it as silent install via our SMS, it always get stuck at Adobe AIR install with the install log from
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Installers\Adobe Photoshop CS4 11.0 09-02-2009.log
with this at the end of the log file:

I have left it more than hour. I also have left it all day, the log file is always full of it. I even "told" Creative Suite Deployment Toolkit not to install Adobe AIR and it still tries to install it anyway. I checked the AdobeUberInstaller.xml file and it has <Action>donotinstall</Action> marked for Adobe AIR. So I'm not even sure why it's trying to install it.
This happens on a PC that has Adobe AIR installed. I tried on another PC where it doesn't have Adobe AIR installed and I still get the same thing.
I'm running out of ideas how to get this to work and this is why I'm here to seek further help from you... help?
Has anyone seen this issue before and if so, what was the fix to get it to work?

Hi all,
I received this e-mail from Adobe, so I thought I'd share this with you all for future ref.
Air needs to contact Adobe to get a certificate.   I would recommend not installing this as part of the suite and push out seperately. At any rate, if you AIR remotely, you will need to set the proxy to allow for the certification process. The other option might to create a snapshot of Air with the certificate already in place.

Photoshop CS4 Extended and Lion 10.7.4

Does Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended work on Lion 10.7.4? when I get the "Licensing for this product has stopped working" and I advance to where I'm to click on the License RecoveryLauncher.app it does not appear. A file called License Recovery Launcher does appear with the circle with the line through it.

Since this post is 4 months old, but for some reason only appeared today, assume problem solved.

Photoshop CS4 Extended- change from PC to Mac and a lost licence key.

I have been trying to get into adobe chat to ask these two questions, however it always comes up with an 'chat is unavailable' and I'm unsure of where else to turn- as there is no email contact and no number.
I bought Photoshop CS4 Extended (Student edition) a few years ago and got a disk which i have been using on all my pc computers (deactivating old computers and re-activting new ones), However i have now changed to Mac- and the disk will not load on the mac as it is set for windows. I have then tried to download, CS4 online- but my licence key comes up with a red cross and it will not be accepted. I have looked at other chats and looked at different sites to download the cs4 (and apparently the extended cs4) however i can never find the right download or its just a read me pdf document.
I just want my CS4 photoshop on my new mac computer and unsure how to get it.
Secondly i lost a licence key when one of my family computers died- and have only had one licence key since then. I'm just wondering is there a way to get this back?rent
Is there a different way to contact adobe? Chat just doesn't seem to work for me- and i would love to get these two questions cleared up.

Prior to the subscription models—and of course that includes CS4—the Photoshop license was platform specific, either Windows or Mac, but not both. Your CS4 Windows serial number ("key") will never work on the Mac version.
CS4 is out of the loop as far as requesting a platform swap for a nominal fee. It is no longer supported by Adobe in any way. A platform swap required the destruction of your PC version, so you could not use both the PC and the Mac versions.
For a time, you could have used CS4 to upgrade to CS6 for about $200, but that time window has closed by now. Now you would have to own a legitimate version of CS5 in order to be eligible to buy an upgrade to CS6.
You can of course buy the full version of Photoshop CS6 Extended for $1,000 from the Adobe store:

Alternatively, you can subscribe to Photoshop CC and Photoshop CC2014 on a monthly basis without ever owning the software. If you stop paying monthly, the software ceases to work.
The cheapest subscription is the Photography plan, which includes both Photoshop and Lightroom for $10 a month.

Can accurate measurements be made and images scaled in Photoshop CS4 Extended - Student Version

I draw and amend plan based images (similar to Ordnance Survey plans) and need to be able to work in detail using accurate measurements to create a 2D representation of a building or other feature and their surroundings to a particular scale. Ideally I want to take this further to use the base plans as a means of generating a 3D image.
I currently have Photoshop Elements 6 which does not allow me to either measure distances/line lengths or work to a defined scale. Am I correct in understanding that Photoshop CS4 Extended - Student Version would overcome this technical deficiency?

Get the trial and play with the vanishing point filter. It allows you to draw planes in perspective, scale, clone to the drawn perspectives, measure distances between points and define a distance which is used as a baseline to measure out all the other perspective lines.

D7000 raw files not seen in my iMac OS 10.7.5; Bridge and Photoshop CS4 Extended

Please help!!! I just bought a Nikon D7000 and my iMac OS 10.7.5 does not recognize it, I cannot see the D7000 on the Desktop, Bridge, Photoshop CS4 Extended, etc Please assist.

ACR 6.x only works with Photoshop CS5, not CS4. The latest Camera Raw you can install into Photoshop CS4 is 5.7.
You have two choices, one free, one not:
1. Use the latest version of the free downloadable Adobe DNG converter to convert all your raw D7000 images to .DNG files each time you shoot, then open the .DNG files into Photoshop CS4, which it knows how to read with Camera Raw 5.x.
2. Upgrade to Photoshop CS6, which will give you maximum convenience and integration to be able to just open the D7000 raw .NEF files directly through Camera Raw.

Photoshop CS4 and Photoshop CS4 Extended trial version

Hello,
I have Photoshop CS4 installed on my Windows Vista system and wanted to download the Photoshop CS4 Extended trial.
I tried to download the Photoshop CS4 Extended trial on the desktop as well as on the laptop and wasn't successful.
I was able to download other Adobe trial applications such as Flash CS4, After Effects CS4 and so forth.
I thought the issue mentioned above was due to the fact that Photoshop CS4 was already installed or maybe cause only Photoshop CS4 is available for the trial and not the Extended version similar to CS4 Encore?

I think John understands me. As a matter of fact I have a PS Standard
CS2, CS3 and CS4 installed on my system and was wondering why I wasn't able to install a PS CS4 Extended trial. Apparently you just can't.
It's a pity 'cause as a consequence if you want to try the Extended version you have to get rid of the Standard version first and then download the Extended trial version?
I think it would also be better that the Adobe site should mention that you cannot download the Extended version when you already have the Standard installed? For example if you hover over the PS CS4 icon here, you will notice the 'try' link. Then you might expect that you just can download and install the application whether you have the Standard already on your system or not.
