Photoshop CS4 GPU redraw problems

I have problems with showing layers after I move them. When i hide or show some layers the changes will show only after i click somewhere in the window. like window redrawing have some pause.
I have Nvidia GeFrocce 7600 GT with latest drivers.

Just clear install photoshop with no plugins
All app with GPU usage is shutdown
GPU drawing turn off\on no effect
I just notice what redrawing work few second after start appl, but novigation window empty, all redrawing after click :'(

Photoshop CS4 file saving problem...

Photoshop CS4 file saving problem: When no file name is specified, Photoshop saves file to the root directory of the drive instead of the current folder. It auto names the image with the name of the folder that was active. Can this be fixed?
BTW: I was using "save for web"--not sure if it that matters.

Bug reports should go in the main forum.
And yes, SFW has it's own file code so that is a very important detail.

Photoshop CS4, genius pensketch, problems

I have a problem with the genius pensketch 9x12 on photoshop CS4, time to time the brush get stuck in one point and just make straight lines.
I work on windows 7, Reinstall the drivers but the problem persist.
this problem only happen on photoshop, illustrator and other programs doesn´t show this glitch.
please somebody know what happen?

Adobe Pixelbender / Photoshop CS4 graphics / memory problems

I have been using my 4 year old MacBook Pro for rendering images (using the GPU) with a special pixelbenderscript and stitching these images together with photoshop CS4.
With mybrand new MacBook Pro, suddenly I get erratic behaviour when rendering the images, the whole screen gets covered with a mix of the image and parts of the desktop/application.
The next problem is the stiching of the images in PS CS4, where I get a "out of RAM" message where my old MacBook Pro did the work just fine (and I have 4GB RAM now, before only 3).
Is this a known issue? Any solution?

Go to this site and download the 9.9 driver set. The 9.5 driver set had a streaming problem that had to be fixed with a hotfix. I have the 4870 also and the 9.9 drivers are stable and have no issues with PS CS4 on vista 64 bit.

Sometimes it is better not to change drivers if you don't have issues. But the 9.5 set has issues.
Make sure you un-install the old drivers. When you click on the Icon and start the install it will unpack as normal but you will come upon a screen to install or uninstall. Choose uninstall to remove the old driver package. Reboot. Then click on the icon again, it will unpack and you will get the screen again so choose install. Reboot after install.
If I remember correctly the 9.5 drivers, after install, did not show the reboot screen. You still have to reboot.

Adobe CMM and Photoshop CS4 File Info problems

I installed the Adobe Color Management Module several days ago.

Today when I opened the File Info dialog in Photoshop CS4,I got a blank black window. Same went for the Kuler window and other extensions under the Window menu. Other panels such as the palettes and toolbox were fine.
I went through reset prefs,reinstalled PS,and reinstalled my video driver.
Same problems.
Uninstalled the Adobe CMM and the panels returned to normal.
I don't know exactly what happened,but something this forum should know about.

Chris,I downloaded and reinstalled the CMM and the problem repeated.
File Info: blank, as well as the Kuler, and Connect extensions under the Windows menu. Additionally,any custom panels installed via Configurator also went blank.(although I had uninstalled those on my first round of troubleshooting)
Again as soon as I uninstalled the CMM,I got the File Info, Kuler, and Connect windows back.
This is on a Toshiba A205-S5843 running Vista SP1
I also tried the CMM on a Toshiba A75 (Windows XP)with a trial of CS4 Extended. There were no problems on that configuration with the CMM installed.
I don't know what it is,but thought it should be passed along.

Photoshop performance and redraw problems

Hello,
I'm running Photoshop CS5.1 x64 12.1 on a Windows 7 SP1 machine with all updates installed and the latest AMD 13.9 drivers for my HD6850 card. The PC has 8GB RAM.
Whenever I zoom in, there is an annoying redraw effect whereby the image "tears" as it's redrawn in "squares". This is not the usual vsyncless tear because if i simply scroll the image left and right it does not happen. To fix this, I can enable OpenGL and the tearing will be gone. However, when OpenGL is enabled the brushes lag quite badly. Sometimes it takes a full second from the moment I start a stroke to the moment it appears on screen. I've set OpenGL to basic and disabled all other options such as vsync and anti-aliasing. I've tried setting the cache levels to 8 and all cache tile sizes, restarting PS after each setting change. I've found it impossible to eliminate PS's non-OpenGL zoom tearing and brush lag when OpenGL is enabled, so I'm forced to fix one and live with the other.
I'd appreciate any advice, thank you.

It sounds like you are seeing the tiles that Photoshop splits the screen into. You really need Chris Cox to give you the best settings and other advice, but this might be one of those times when the 'Tall and thin/Default/Big and fat' options make a difference. I'm going to hazard a guess that setting a smaller tile size would be best. Short of a system upgrade that is.

Photoshop CS4 OPENGL Drawing problem with Photoshop CS4

Hello, I've had this problem since i installed photoshop cs4, and its finally getting on my nerves and i'm looking for a fix.
I am on Windows XP SP3, NVIDIA 8800GTS. The OPENGL Drawing in Photoshop CS4 works fine, but a lot of times, when i start photoshop, it'll say that OPENGL Drawing is disabled and i'll have to go in to preferences and re-endabe and restart photoshop again to get it working. Please help, it's really annoying

NVIDIA apparently does not update their drivers specifically to correct Photoshop CS4 incompatibilities. There release notes have never mentioned bugs or fixes relating to Photoshop.
Try setting the 3D settings to Performance (rather than Quality) in the NVIDIA Control Panel.

Photoshop CS4 installation path problem

i having installation problem after i restore my pc, where i have install it normally before window restore. after install it doesnt work at all.
It set the installation path to common files folder, i have try uninstall all and reinstall it but still cannot modify the installation path.
Please tell me how to fix it?

By Fresh install i mean that Uninstall the existing Photoshop CS4 application through Windows Add/Remove Programs and install again through the Photoshop CS4 installer.Do inform if this works for you.

Saving Jpeg in Photoshop CS4 and having problems

Okay, i have been looking all over the internet and i hope it's something really foolish...
After editing a photo in Photoshop (CS4) and saving it as a JPEG / JPG, many people using windows can't open the file, and it gets the extension .JPGG ( ...?... )
If I import the picture in Iphoto first and then mail it ther is no problem.
perhaps this is quite obvious to some, but it's a mystery to me.
To update my website i need to save my JPG files to an XML folder and then flash reads the files and opens them in the site.
The JPG files i saved using photoshop won't open in the site, even worse, the site won't even load because the loader gets 'stuck'.
i tried putting them in Iphoto first because that helped with with mailing, but it doesn't seem to be working this time.
I've tried all the JPG saving options like Baseline etc. converted them to RGB ( they already were) so i'm out of options.
ANYONE ?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I have CS3 so don't know if there's major changes to the formatting process by each version. That may be a question to ask in the Adobe support forum.
However, for a workaround you might try using the Automator workflow I created to change any image file to jpg with the sRGB color profile. Just drag the files onto the workflow icon and they will be converted. You can get it, "Convert to JPG and Embed sRGB profile", at Toad's Cellar. See if those jpgs will work OK. There will be some jpeg compression applied but if they are for posting on the web it may not be objectionable.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

PhotoShop CS4 hotfolder creation problems in OS10.8.1

Hi there. I am new to AppleScript, and I am setting a hot folder to PS CS4 in OS 10.8.1
Once a file is dragged to this folder, open Photoshop automatically to do one action. And then save this file.
I have read through several solutions through some forums, and tried one by myself.

1. There is an error :Expected end of line but found identifier. The word "showing" in "open thisFile showing dialogs never" is highlighted.
     I checked this error, the applescript says that there is a space...
2. I just use "open thisFile" to try, another error: Expected end of line but found class name. And then "document" of "tell current document" is highlighted.
3. I also delete "tell current document" to test again, then "action" is highlighted and the error: "Expected end of line but found identifier."
This script is followed by script manual of PS CS4. I don't know where the problems are....
Can anyone give me some advice? Thank you!

I would try restoring preferences: Restore preferences | Dreamweaver CS4, CS5, CS5.5
If that doesn't work, a Clean and Reinstall might do it...

Photoshop CS4 - GPU support on standard ?

Does Photoshop CS4 standard benefit from the GPU support , OpenGL 2.0 ?

Not sure about the 8800 but my 8600GT with 512MB and the latest driver released by NVidia this month works really well. I found I need to leave the Harware Acceleration slider all the way to the right. Any setting less than the max caused some visual artifacts and double images to appear.

Photoshop CS4 extended upgrade problems.....Help!

I am using Photoshop CS3 (registered and activated) on my old computer.
I built a new computer and want to install CS4 extended on it. I purchased a Photoshop CS4 Extended update from Amazon for $342.99. During installation of CS4 on my new computer I entered the serial number. The next page that pops up is Upgrade Check that asks: 1) Select product that you already own: The only choice is Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended and 2) it asks for the serial number. I am upgrading from Photoshop CS3, not the extended version, so it will not accept my serial number. Photoshop is installed on a trial basis right now.
I tried installing Photoshop CS3 on the new computer but that did not help and CS3 did not recognize the CS2 installation disk that I put in the CD drive to prove that I was allowed to install a CS3 uprade.
The new computer I am trying to install on is an Intel i7 920 processor on a Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD4P motherboard, with 12Gb RAMM, a Sapphire Toxic Radion HD 4870 graphics card, and running Windows XP pro 64 bit. I installed the operating system on the D drive. This computer is not setup to connect to the internet.
I am also trying to install Adobe CS2 Creative Suite (everything except Photoshop), but the CS2 installation does not recognize the Adobe CS1 disk 1 when I put it in the CD drive as requested.
This is all very frustrating considering how happy I have been with my Adobe software all the way back to Photoshp 5. I called the 800-833-6687 number and after playing phone tree for a while was informed that I was calling outside their hours (at noon on Sunday) even though the webpage I got the number from says they are available 7 days a week.
It was bad enough that after spending $195 to upgrade to Photoshop CS3, 3 weeks later Adobe announced Photoshop CS4.

From your message I deduce that you purchased an upgrade that is not in the upgrade eligibility path from the version that you had.
It's not logical but then what is these days in Adobe marketing? The only solution seems to be to get back on the telephone.

Photoshop CS4 Extended install problem

Hi all, have loaded up CS4 Design Premium onto the pc. All software went well except for photoshop - it seems to be CS4 (standard not 'extended') that has installed. The splash screen says Photoshop CS4 (not 'extended'), the file types list mentions no 3D files, etc. This was after doing a full reinstall (after trying the typical first time around) to make sure I didn't miss anything. Can anyone pls let me know if there was something extra we needed to do to access the 'extended' tools? (hoping its something obvious thats just got straight past me). Cheers.

I would give Adobe customer service a call or their sales area. From what it looks like it is a serial number issue and nobody except them can help you out. They will need to give you a serial number to unlock the extended part since it looks like the serial number is just for CS4.

Photoshop CS4 has a problem loading

I don't know what happened, but today when I launched Photoshop it had a problem loading on the splashscreen when it said "Building TWAIN Menu Items". I don't know what happened, it worked perfectly fine yesterday, but today it just kept getting stuck, I'm running on Vista 64-Bit Home Premium if that matters. There was an automatic Windows update last night, so I though it was that, but when I did System Restore and when I tried un-installing the updates it still didn't work. Any help would be appreciated!

Twain is not supported in 64 bit. Maybe there is a 32 bit driver in the wrong 64 bit folder?

Photoshop CS4 impressions: many problems

I have been using CS4 for two days. It is slower than CS3, the interface is horrible and help does not work at all. I have posted elsewhere on the major bug that cursor outlines either vanish, go to a partial arc or freeze. This is really not good enough.
Help: the on-line help does not work. You get a generic page. If you try to download the PDF, it fails. The on-line help is useless. There is no help supplied withthe disk.
Image resize: if you want to resize and image you cannot do so in pixels. Why woudl anyone resize a screen image in - for example - points, which is one of the options on offer?
Brushs: Load gives a windows screen that is blank, withthe option to load .abx (I think)- files. None are shown, despite Win Explorer showing dozens of them.
The standard windows maximise - minimise-exit symbols are sometimes surrounded with windows colours and sometimes grey. Maximising an image window hide them and tabbing with F through the options never shows them.
Stacking when minimised does not allow the stack to be moved, but when you size to minimum it leaps unpredictably so you get a stack that just happens to be where it wants.
I find it extraordinary that actions such as dodging is noticably slower than in CS3, where it was essentially real time on any good processor. This has a 200-400mS lag. Menus take noticable time to disappear and dragging causes skewing and leaping in ways I haven't seem since Photoshop 8.
Frankly, I think I want my money back. Certainly, the company will not be buying this upgrade for our staff.

Thank you, Jim Farmer. Yours is a most helpful post. However, a number of people have posted to this thread to the affect that 'it is not Adobe's fault that [your] drivers are out of date'. This would, perhaps, be a reasonable position if the release that fixed some of the worst problems (from nVIDIA) was not dated 11 November 2008, that is, released long after the Adobe product. The original, allegedly malfunctioning drivers had a July 08 date - hardly ancient.
That said, it is very definitely the task of a software developer to ensure that the client has the support utilities on their computer that they need for the product to function. Adobe could easily check during the installation process, for example, and ask the user if they want to install the relevant drivers off the web. They could equally easily put a message somewhere - on the packet, on the CD - to the affect that new drivers would probably be needed.
As matters stand, however, the raw software package is typically unable to access help. The download of the help pdf fails (three times.) The user side PDF is hidden, and accessed only if you do occult things. (See an earlier post.) I telephoned Adobe support and got a young man who giggled a lot. He was unable to tell me how to access help in any form, promised to e-mail back and didn't do so. In all, it has taken around two person days to get this package operating in a way that is acceptable, does not fail without warning and has GUI oddities which are tolerable rather than show-stopping. It remains a Beta product.
I am writing this in the - altruistic, public spirited - hope that Adobe monitor these Forums and that they will take some action in later releases. It is quite unreasonable to expect designers and photographers to have knowledge at the level displayed by Jim Farmer, any more than a mobile telephone user should know about telephone operating systems, network domain multiplexing or other technical underpinnings of what they do. It seems evident to me that Adobe has a nest of suits and a separate herd of techies, and never the two do speak. The result of this is paid for by the customer, but for many people, I suspect, just this once, and on sufferance. Certainly, we shall stay with this one copy until matters are acknowledged and improved.
