It depends on the original format and the destination format of the file.

Photoshop CS4 Trial installation asking for disc again and again

I had to uninstall my Creative Suite CS3 because of licensing problems. Then I could not reinstall it on Vista Home Premium SP2 ("unsupported OS").
Now, as long as I am waiting for Adobe to respond to my case, I tried to install CS4 Trial versions of PS and DW, so I can go on working.
But:
Whether I install them from a HDD or from a CD/DVD, it always asks me to insert the disc again into the related drive. Of course it is already in - installation has to be aborted.
I am very hesitant to purchase the CS4 upgrade, since it seems that after their huge hassle with the CS3 suite they still haven't their product installation problems fixed.
Anybody had fixed this?

Have tried all these too, and went a bit further with copying the folder to the desktop, but it also ended with a fatal.
Since the origin of my trouble is the endless hassle with my CS3 Suite installation, I ordered a CS4 Premium Web Trial and see if that installs.
Don't want to risk paying for another uninstallable product.
Before I install that, I will:
- uninstall all Adobe products
- including all flash versions that might still be lingering around
- run the CS3 cleaner
- clean and defrag the drive
- brush my teeth
-... anything else?

Why does Elements 6 default to such funky quality levels when saving?

Sometimes when doing "save as" it defaults to "3" and other times "5", etc...how does it decide what to offer? And don't I want to use "12" anyway? For a "mainstream photo editor" why doesn't it default to "12" for everyone? Doesn't Adobe want to show that their program creates great-looking pictures? Of course I could be misunderstanding the concept :)

I am far away from being an expert on this subject. But, until you get better answers from experts, the following observations that i made on my PC might help a little bit.
On my PC, often, when I "save-as" a jpeg photo with a "quality" of 10 and later re-edit and save-as again that photo, PSE will preset again the quality of 10. It seems that the quality that i preset is somehow "sticky". But I do not know the exact rules used by PSE for this somehow "sticky" reuse of the quality.
Perhaps, you might wish to make some experiments on your PC and if you are lucky you might even (like me) get along with the behavior of PSE (a behavior, that unfortunately does not seems to be documented in the PSE help Documents). If you (or somebody else) finds out something about the rules used by PSE: I will be grateful to hear about it.
Notes: on my PC is use Windows XP with SP3 and PSE V6. As far as I remember, PSE V5 (and perhaps even some of the earlier PSE versions) had a similar behavior on the subject of the preset jpgeg quality. Also, I perform most of my edits with the Full Editor of PSE (i.e.: I am not using the limited Editing facilities of the Organizer).
I also believe to have noticed (but I am not really sure about it) the following: As long I do not exceptionally change for the saving of one particular photo the jpeg quality, PSE has in my environment the tendency of using my preferred quality of 10 for the first Save-as of a photo that had never been edited before. I do not know, whether this is because PSE somehow remember that I used 10 the last time that I saved a photo that had been edited for the first time.

Assuming that you've got the relevant iOS version on the iPad, then you can change it from a 15 minute period during which it doesn't need to be re-entered to immediately via Settings > General > Restrictions > Require Password

This usually happens when you had/ have a newer Adobe product like a trial on the system and it points to updated install components. You will have to uninstall each and every bit of Adobe software and then reinstall in the proper order. Running the cleaner tool may also be required.

It seems that there might be some gremlin in the licensing module. The PS CS4 board has several similar instances. I do not know exactly what the problem is, but this should be an easy reset by Adobe. It has worked for the PS users and requires one free telephone call. I am with Harm on this. I doubt that many, if any, users can be of much help. The installation issues *used* to be simple and quick, but I have not had to make that call, since Illustrator 3. Have your S/N handy. If you purchased from the Adobe Store, a receipt # might come in handy too. Once your product has been verified, you'll probably be asked to enter a key, and away you go.

Adobe Photoshop CS4 has Stopped Working on Windows 7

Hey guys and girls. I recently got a new computer running Windows 7 64bit. I still have good ol photoshop cs4 and wanted to use it on this new computer. The install process was completed and as I started the program, I get the "Adobe Photoshop CS4 has stopped working" box. I've looked through some forums, and a lot of them mention the wacom tablet issue, which is not the issue since I've yet to install the drivers for my tablet. Has anyone come across this problem at all? This is what shows up when I get that error box.

The first thing that I would do is insure that you have the latest video driver installed (but do keep any older ones, just in case you must roll-back - newest is not always the best).
If that does not help, then open Even Viewer, and check for all warning, or error messages in System and Application tabs, for the time that PS crashed. If you find any with links, follow those links - be patient, as some might take a few moments to send data to MS, and then for MS to process it, to open the proper page for that link plus the data gathered. This ARTICLE goes into a bit more detail, and I do not think that it is too Adobe Premiere-centric.

I went through the process of clicking through the how to's and the troubleshooting and came to the conclusion that I need to install the adobe drive 5 but I can not complete the installation. I may be incorrect on this so I need immediate assistance as I have poster and ad deadlines. I also tried disabling the gatekeeper and solution 3 on the troubleshooting of slow saving on photoshop.

Are you attempting to save the file to a network location instead of your local hard drive? If so, this is probably why you are encountering an issue and why Adobe Drive would be the solution. As we've documented, it is a bad idea to open from or save directly to a network source: Networks, removable media | Photoshop | CS4 and later. Drive can help you get around this by setting up an Adobe supported virtual connection to the network. Thus, if installing Adobe Drive is the solution you need and your need help with installing Drive, please post to the Downloading, Installing, Setting Up forum.
If you are not saving to a network location, then Adobe Drive is not going to be the answer. Then we'll need to know more about the file you are saving.

Run the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool, reinstall the program. Make sure to run it with sufficient user privileges.

Also, you can make sure your system is 64 bit capable by:
Open Performance Information and Tools by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Performance Information and Tools.
Click View and print details.
In the System section, you can see what type of operating system you're currently running under System type. Under 64-bit capable, you can see whether you can run a 64-bit version of Windows. (If your computer is already running a 64-bit version of Windows, you won't see the 64-bit capable listing.)

these has been happening on and off for a few days now.
when i click update on my local copy of the sdk ready to do my morning build I've started to be asked for a username and password. I do have a username and password for sandbox and patching etc but entering this has no effect.
are there times of day when the trunk is locked or something like that? This is not happening all the time but it is several times a day.
has anyone any idea why this is happening

Ive had this same issue on and off across all the open source svn
im yet to find any pattern apart from the fact that the auth error only ever shows the root of the svn request.
Ie http://opensource.adobe.com/svn/opensource/
Now im not sure if thats just the way the reporting ui works of if it indicates that somewhere in the update it starts to trigger the url rot and thats where the auth request gets triggered. This may be total nonsense. Just a thought.

The easiest thing to start with is to reset the Eraser Tool.
Right click on the Eraser icon in the tool options bar and then click on Reset Tool.

Though it's unlikely to be wrong if things were set up properly in the first place, as a check go to Mail Preferences>Accounts and check that the server setting for IMAP (incoming) is imap.mail.me.com (not just mail.me.com).
Your next step either way would be to go to System Preferences>iCloud and sign out, then sign back in again. (You can ignore warnings about data disappearing - your calendars etc. will disappear when you sign out but reappear when you sign back in).
