No... this is a USER TO USER forum, not Adobe support... only the space is provided by Adobe, for users to try to help other users

  • Issues with PHOTOSHOP CS4 on Windows 7

    Hi!
    I'm using photoshop CS4 on Windows 7, and i have a problem. I'm working on a Core I7 920 with 6Go of ram.
I'm using the 11.0.1 version (the latest), and even with that, the brush is awfully slow on windows 7. I tried with and without the "Open-GL drawing" enabled, it doesn't change anything. I thought it could be the fault of Windows 7's "tablet PC" function, but even after uninstalling it, i still have the same problem. I tried it on XP SP3 on the same computer, and it works normaly.
As i also had some problems with AE, i guess the compatibility is not perfect. I think Adobe should really think about an update for 7 users.

Here's a possible solution (work around) to the lag problem, that worked for me.
Open the Wacom Tablet Properties, double click on the tablet and make sure its in "Standard" mode.
Click on the Mapping Tab ->set the mapping mode to Mouse and turn off Mouse Accelerration.
I also either disabled anything that I didn't use.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why can't I view metadata added in Photoshop CS4 in Windows XP's explorer?

I'm using Photoshop CS4 on Windows XP.  I've been editing the Title and Description fields in Photoshop (and yes, I've been saving things).  When I try to view the metadata in Photoshop at a later point I can see everything just fine.  When I try to view the metadata by going in to windows explorer and looking at the properties, those fields just show up as blank.  This may be a silly question (I'm a bit of a noob), but what am I doing wrong?

I believe Mylenium is referring to this:  Start Bridge, then Edit - Preferences - Metadata.
I don't know what settings to tweak to accomplish what you want, though.

  • When opening a file of any type in Photoshop (CS4), the windows will not appear in Ps.

When opening a file of any type in Photoshop (CS4), the windows will not appear. Photoshop will open and I can see the layers on the right but the document window will not come up no matter what I try.  I try closing down everything, double-clicking a layer, opening multiple windows, etc.. Any thoughts?

Can you post a screenshot of your entire Photoshop screen with a file loaded in and the layers panel showing?
It helps if we see the same problem you are seeing

  • File Access Denied Error trying to load Photoshop CS4 on Windows 7

I am trying to load Photoshop CS4 on Windows 7 64bit & I keep getting File Access Denied. I am unable to read to the disk or to load the program. I do not have the option to open as administrator.

So when you put the disk in it won't run correctly? When the disk is inserted you should have a window pop up with 2 options. 1 to install and the other to see what is on the disk. Choose to explore or open the disk. Go to the CS4 folder where the photoshop .exe file is (that will run the setup), right click on the .exe file and choose run as Admin and it should start. See if it will install. If not then read below.
I am not sure how far you got in the install before so chances are you will have to run the CS4 cleanup utility. 2 levels to run at but don't use 1 or 2 just type in the number 3.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs4clean.html
You may need to run the windows installer cleanup utility too
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Before you try to reinstall the software ensure that adobe reader is not installed. If it is remove it. It has caused issues in the past with vista and CS4 installs.
Also turn off windows Defender and any anti-virus software. You can keep UAC on in Windows 7.
During the CS4 install at 90 percent it will almost stop and may take 5 to 10 mins to finish. This is normal. What a pain huh......
    After install is finished, reboot
After reboot, go to the CS4 64 bit or 32 bit icon (depends on 32 or 64 bit Windows 7) in start area, right click on CS4 64 bit (if you have windows 7 64 bit) and choose properties, compatibility tab and then check run as Admin at the bottom area. Hit apply, ok to close out.
Now start CS4 and run the updater.

  • Any fixes for menus/icons way too small in PhotoShop CS4 on Windows 8.1?

I installed PhotoShop CS4 on Windows 8.1 on new Dell XPS laptop and the menus and icons are very tiny and hard to even see. Does anyone know a setting or fix for this issue? Adobe said they won't help!

Did you ever found a solution to your problem? I have the same frustration now with no idea how to fix it??

  • Cannot install Photoshop CS4 on Windows 8.1

Trying to install Photoshop CS4 on Windows 8.1 but upon the initial "Checking system profile" step of the installation I keep getting this: "Setup has encountered an error and cannot continue. Contact adobe customer support for assistance". Anyone know how to fix this?

    Hi srr49,
You can try installing in compatibility mode and check.
Windows 8.1 is not a supported OS for Photoshop CS4. I would recommend purchasing the latest Photoshop CC.

  • Photoshop CS4 Menu toolbar display bug and fullscreen slowness...

    http://img384.imageshack.us/img384/8202/menutoolsbugee3.gif
I'm having a display bug with the menu toolbar in Photoshop CS4 Extended. Notice the area of tools is gone and replaced by random pixels? This happens whenever I enter the fullscreen mode that hides the interface. And when I exit that fullscreen mode, that bug appears and doesn't fix itself until I restart Photoshop. Can this be fixed?
Image view rotation also happens much slower than normal in that fullscreen mode when interface is hidden. But performs normally after I bring back the interface.
I'm on WinXP, Athlon 64 4000+, 3GB ram, GeForce 6800 GT video card [driver 169.21]. I'm not sure if this is a video driver bug or CS4 bug.

Yeah, Dave, I can understand how that can happen. I've seen that sort of weirdness when I've seriously overtaxed my hardware.

  • I am attempting to install Adobe Photoshop CS4 on Windows 7?

I have a laptop that is running on Windows 7 and I am attempting to install Adobe Photoshop CS4. It downloads the program file alright but when I click on the Set Up button it says "Cannot install Please click quit below" and then below it there are two bullet points that say:
-Adobe Photoshop CS4 11.0.1 - Adobe Photoshop CS4 not installed
    -Adobe Photoshop CS4 (64 Bit) 11.0.1 - Adobe Photoshop CS4 (64 Bit) not installed
What exactly is going on? I tried running the set up in a different compatibility mode (e.g. Windows XP and Windows Vista) but no luck.
Am I even clicking the correct file in the folder? Or is my computer just not going to work with Adobe Photoshop CS4?

These are merely the updates. You need to instasll the base program first.

  • Cannot install Photoshop CS4 on Windows Vista Business

Ok people, looking for some help with this.  I have a new PC (less than 2 months old).  I cannot get Photoshop CS4 installed at all.  I'm sure there have been a million threads like this before asking the same question.  Although I am a newb to Photoshop I am certainly not when it comes to computers, this is what I do for a living.  I can't even believe I am actually having to ask for help.... :\
Anyway, help appreciated.  I have Windows Vista Business SP1 (32-bit), and its running on a Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 @ 2.5GHz with 4 gig of RAM.  I have plenty of free space on my hard drives.
When the install completes, I get the same error message, installed with errors.  When I click to see the error info it says something about language packs (I can get the exact error if you want, just installed and uninstalled about 10 times but hey).
Things I have tried a few times have been to follow through all the other threads and the Adobe support pages - Uninstalling the product through Programs first, running Windows Install Cleanup, running the Adobe CS4 Clean Script - when I do these things in this order both of the cleanup utilities don't find any installs of Photoshop CS4, so it doesn't appear they are doing anything.  I have disabled everything on the PC, done a selective startup, turned off UAC, firewall, anti-virus - everything suggested.  Still, the same error persists.
I have even run my Registry Mechanic and cleaned up that, and of course checked registry permissions etc.  Please help!

You may want to install Vista SP2. It contains a lot of fixes and has the newer 4.5 installer.
Also if Vista is set for English then CS4 has to be set as US English upon install (I think someone already pointed that out).
Before install go services and set the windows installer to auto and start it. Also good idea to turn off windows defender.
Go to MSconfig and turnoff as many start up items that you don't need running (you will have to reboot).
Ensure nothing Adobe related is running in the back ground before install. (someone already mention this I think)
Anti-virus: I turned mine off during install.
I did not install AIR nor Device Central on my system as I would never use them.
    Tiernobyl wrote:
Ok, so I've tried all the things suggested above but still get the same errors....
    Adobe AIR
    Error:
    Error 2.
Adobe Photoshop CS4 English Language Pack
    Error:
    Error 2.
    LangPack (English) for DeviceCentral
    Error:
    Error 2.
Anyone else have any idea what might be causing my problem?  The other thing I was going to try was contacting Adobe support, but can I do this for the trial version?  When I tried to log a case it kept asking me to select my product, but I don't have one yet....
    Thanks.

  • Problems with photoshop CS4 in Windows Vista 32 bits

I have installed Photoshop CS4 in Vista Ultimate 32 bits, in the installation i don´t have any problems.
When click to run Photoshop, Vista launch a message saing me to close de application, so i can´t start Photoshop.
Then i update de drivers of my Graphics card (ATI HD2900), and i try to start photoshop with the new drivers. The photoshop starts without problems.
I open it and i click in the right pane of styles, and Windows launch another message to close de application.
After that i start Photoshop and i read a message that says that Photoshop have desactivate the aceleration of GPU because there were some problems.
I go to the menu of performance in settings and Vista launch another message to close de application when i click in performance to open the settings.
Then i try to open another time the application and i try to open a *.png image file and i paint something in it, then i click in the "X" to close, but the application doesn´t close (i prove with "X" of the application and with the "X" of the image tab). I have to close it with de Task Manager.
Then i try to open a *.jpg image file and Vista launch another message to close the application.
I don´t know the reason of these problems, i´m trying to find something in internet.
I hope you can help me to resolve this problems, i need photoshop.
    Thank you in advance.

Have you checked that the files actually "belong" to anyone? If you reinstalled your system recently, they may have invalid security descriptors. Try to check. Right-click one of the offending files, choose "Properties", then go to the security settings tab. You should at least see 3 entries (Administrators,[your user name], System). If you see additional entries only consisting of numbers and letters, uncheck the "inherit parent folder settings" option, choose to copy all permissions in the prompt that comes up, then delete those invalid entries. In addition, you may need to set a new owner in the "Advanced" options (it should however default to Administrator after the previous steps)...

  • Problem installing Photoshop CS4 on Windows 8 laptop

I tried installing Photoshop CS4 on my new laptop running Windows 8, using my disc. I got the message: 'We looked in the default locations for qualifying products installed on this machine, but none were found.'

    Hi yungys,
As suggested by Michael CS4 is not tested with Windows 8. Please find the system requirements to install CS4: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/system-requirements-photoshop.html#main_ Photoshop_CS4_system_requirements .

  • Installing photoshop cs4 on windows 8

My computer crashed yesterday (old Windows Vista). I had Photoshop CS4 loaded which was an upgrade from Elements. I downloaded it. I have the key number for cs4 and elements. It downloaded ok but will not open .This is on a new Windows 8 system. Any suggestions?

Reynolds you are welcome to download a fresh copy of the installation files at Download CS4 products.
You might also want to look at the fonts you have installed in case one of them is conflicting with the font utilized by installer.

  • Font not showing up in Photoshop CS4 for Windows

I have fonts that I've installed in both my Windows XP and Windows 7 PCs.  They show up in the Control Panel - Fonts and open, they show up in Word, but do not show up in Photoshop CS4.  I see in the CS4 Mac forums that there is a way to register a font in CS4, but I can find nothing on doing that on a Windows PC.  Can anyone help?

Adobe programs are sensitive to font issues, and one, the Titler in Premiere, is the most sensitive. This ARTICLE was written primarily for Titler, BUT translates to PS too. Often, a corrupt, or poorly-designed font will crash Titler, where that same font will usually just fail to display in PS, though it might cause hangs. Tracking down the problem font is outlined in the above article.
However, even if a font is not corrupt, or bad, it just might not display properly in some Adobe programs. I found that Isabelle and Isabella (two different fonts, with similar names) and from several foundaries, just do not display in Photoshop, or Illustrator. They do not crash the program, or cause a hang, but they obviously have an issue, and just will not display. They also do not crash Titler, but do not display.
Other fonts, such as the older DejaVu, installed with OpenOffice, would crash Titler. I do not have that font, but do understand that Oracle has rewritten it, so that it now works OK.
Good luck, and it could well be that your problem font(s) can be replaced by a better one, that has similar characteristics, or can be replaced by the same font, but from another foundary.

  • Photoshop CS4 for Windows - Installing XP 64

I have heard that Photoshop CS4 is not meant to be used on XP 64 but has anyone here installed it successfully? Is it working?
I am trying to install it on my XP 64 PCs and no go. One of them gets pretty far into the installation process and conks out. The other (newer, faster PC) gets this error message when trying to fire up the Installer:
    File Access Denied
Both of these PCs are running AMD 64 bit MBs. The older one has 2 GB of RAM while the newer one has 8 GB of RAM.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. About ready to return the product ...

Thanks Bob for the heads up. I found this text about the release date of Win7:
    Q. What is the expected timeline for the availability of Windows 7?
    A. We are currently in the planning stages for Windows 7 and expect it will take approximately 3 years to develop. The specific release date will be determined once the company meets its quality bar for release.
    Q. Has Windows 7 been released to manufacturing?
    A. Were continuing to work with our partners on the development of Windows 7, and are not sharing any additional information at this time.
    Q. Is the schedule for Windows 7 being moved up due to poor Windows Vista sales?
    A. Were not sharing additional information on Windows 7 at this time. However, were confident that many organizations are recognizing the value in Windows Vista. Of note, sales of Windows Vista licenses have now passed 100 million. In addition, Windows Vista is being adopted by businesses at a rate that is similar to past releases. In the business market there are early, mainstream and late adopters, with the majority of businesses falling into the category of mainstream. Were seeing positive indicators that were already starting to move from the early adoption phase into the mainstream, and that more and more businesses are beginning their planning and deployment of Windows Vista.
You can read the full threaded version at:
    http://www.winvistaclub.com/i7.html
Doesn't sound like Windows 7 will be out anytime soon. Thus I may decide to downgrade my older system once I have finished installing all of my programs to my new PC. Or perhaps get a dual-bootable system for my new one.
