Photoshop CS4 Inactive Filters?
I'm working with a PSB doc with many layers and some layer groups. 32400 x 5400 pixels 180 ppi. The Filter menu shows half of the filters as inactive. RGB, 8 bit. Same problem when selected or deselected.
All filters are available when I view other PS documents.
Mac OS 10.5.7
If so, that's a HUGELY misleading statement and a terrible idea.
CS4 automatically saved my doc as PSB without any warning to me,
presumably when it determined the pixel dimensions). I had NO choice.
The project I'm doing requires some of the disabled filters. And the
worst thing of all, is that PS CS4 won't permit me to Save As... PSD,
only as TIFF. I'm concerned about saving it as TIFF with layers
because I don't know if any of my Photoshop later adjustments will be
effected.
Finding out about this after the fact is more than annoying; it's
deeply disappointing and troubling.

Free Photoshop CS4 camera filters for Mac
Hey,
I used to use Photoshop on Windows and I'm now running CS4 on my Mac. Does anyone know where I can download a set of filters that I can put into the Photoshop folders so they'll show up with the default ones that will allow me to change the lighting, B/W, contrast, color, etc? I used to have this on the Windows version but I can't find one that works within Photoshop so that I can just select them from the list instead of installing another stand alone program that does it.

Nik Filters Crashing Photoshop CS4??
I have been using Nik filters since they first came out. When Google took over I townload the whole free suite they offered. Than I was 'force fed' Nik Analog and it slowed all of my Nik filters down, and since then I have had periods of tremendeous slow down. then a couple of days ago, whenever I opened an image in Color Efexs I would get an error message and Photoshop would close down.
Then yesterday I would get the following 'pop up' messages also - but this time it happened every time I tried to open any file in Photoshop. That is, my Photoshop CS4 is not usable.
I also have CS3 on my computer and it works fine. I went ahead and installed Silver Efex Pro 2 and Color Efex from my original discs and they work fine.
Google sent me the latest Nik Filter collection today, but I am not able to install it past this point, even if I have my anti-virus temporarily disabled.Also I cannot cancel or close it and I can only get out of it by forcing a computer restart.
I am thinking that I will try a 'System Restore' next, and if that does not work, re-install Adobe Creative Suite CS4 from my disks.
If anybody has any thoughts on this or experienced something similar, I would greatly appreciate any input.
I am running Windows Vista Home Premium with 4 GB of RAM and 500 GB of hard-drive with 275 GB of Free Space.

christianThank you - yes I have done that, and as of right now I can't install it - as per my last screen shot above. Nik/Google suggested I go into Safe Mode and try it that way. Will do that.
Do you think updating the plug-in will actually make Photoshop CS 4 function again?
Going through this process I uninstall the Google/Nik Filter plug-in, but my CS 4 still crashes - see the first screen shot above.

How do I include gradation filters in Photoshop CS4?
I used to posses coloured gradation filters for my camera, but unfortunately no more and would like to imitate this effect on some images using Photoshop CS4. I have heard that it is possible to include these but don't know how. Can anyone help please?
Create a color gradient on a layer, set the layer blend mode to multiply - then adjust opacity to taste.
Or use the photofilter adjustment layer and add a gradient to the layer mask. -
Extract and Pattern Maker filters in Photoshop CS4?
What happened to the Extract and Pattern Maker filters in Photoshop CS4? Are they gone or placed somewhere else?

I might be an old fart! But I love extract... Are there any other way to make transparent pixels on the edges on the object you want cut out?
Personally I cry at night for the semi-loss of Extract! This means that Adobe wont improve it any more and with time the filter might be all gone!?!

Photoshop CS4 crashing - 'Kernel Invalid Address'?
Hi,
Can anybody help me ascertain why PS CS4 is always crashing? I'm running PS 11.0.2 on Yosemite, mid 2014 Macbook Pro, 16gb RAM, most recent crash log below.
As a possibly-helpful aside, I'm also having the same problem on a mid-2011 iMac, same software etc and always also showing '
EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)... KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x000000000000014c.
I've cleaned both Macs with Onyx, Uninstalled and reinstalled and updated PS on both machines. The new Powerbook has no new memory installed, the older iMac does have 3rd party RAM installed, on which I've run AHT (says fine on both) and I'm in the process of swapping the Ram chips in the older machine around to double check for bad RAM.
So as it's happening on both computers, maybe it's a software problem? I have no idea...
If there's anything in the crash log below which indicates what's going on, I'd be very grateful for anyone's help.

Problem description:
Repeated crashes on iMac when using Photoshop CS4 11.0.2 on Yosemite, mid 2014 Macbook Pro, 16gb RAM. This has always happened a bit but seems to have got much worse after upgrading to Yosemite, though this may be coincidental.
As a possibly-helpful aside, I'm also having the same problem on a mid-2011 iMac, same software etc and always also showing
EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)... KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x000000000000014c.
I've cleaned both Macs with Onyx, Uninstalled and reinstalled and updated PS on both machines. It still does it in Safe Boot Mode. I did have Trusteer Rapport, (a 3rd part ‘man-in-the-browser malware app’) turned on on both machines at first but I’ve disabled that and it’s still crashing PS. The new Powerbook has no new memory installed, the older iMac does have 3rd party RAM installed, on which I've run AHT (says fine on both) and I'm in the process of swapping the Ram chips in the older machine around to double check for bad RAM.

Photoshop CS4 Crashes When Deleting In Explorer Window
I'm running Windows 7 with gigs of hard drive space and 9 gigs of fast RAM. Whenever I open a file in Photoshop CS4 Extended (v.11.0.1) the "Open" file explorer window pops up and I then navigate to any image folder. If I'm in this window and see any file I don't need any longer and try to delete it PS crashes. I get the "Photoshop no longer responding" error and it shuts down. Other times it happens while I'm working on a file, sometimes when applying filters. The following error always shows up in the Event Viewer:

I've looked everywhere for an answer and Google doesn't have anything. I did try the following as suggested on other forums for similar crashes:
Repaired/replaced the QTCF.dll file (Apple QuickTime DLL)
Ensured fonts aren't corrupt
Ran diagnostics on RAM, HD and system incl. registry - All OK
Ensured scratch disks were local and correct
Deleted PST temp files
Tried starting PS without preferences
Reduced/Increased memory allocation
Installed latest video drivers from ATI
Reinstalled PS CS4
Any idea what is going on? This is seriously affected my workflow and I can't seem to find anyone with a similar issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

JimAccording to a few google searches the dll has to do with either itunes or quick time. The quick time fix was to go to control panel, programs, click on quick time then repair. If you have itunes install do the same but there might not be a repair option when you highlite.
Go to the adobe website to see if there is a quick time viewer for Windows 7 64 bit.

I don't have itunes or Quicktime installed on either computer. I can't remember if the CS4 Extended disk install quicktime. All I installed off the Disk was CS4 Extended and Bridge. -
Adobe Photoshop CS4 or Lightroom?
I am very new to the photoshop programs and was wondering if I could get anyones opinion. I have a windows XP computer and want to be able to do some photoshopping/editing on photos that take with my Canon XSi. I was told that Lightroom 2 is all I'll need for all my editing since I'm just an amature, but the more I've seen on the adobe website, it looks to me like CS4 is the editing program and lightroom is really just for sorting photos and doing very general editing. I'm kind of confused on what each program is used for and would be greatful for any advice on whether to just stick with lightroom 2 or make the jump to Adobe photoshop cs4.

I don't follow what you said about Elements not having the editing capabilities you want. What is lacking? It has many lighting & filtering features. I don't have it, but I've helped people learn it. I was quite surprised at how much it can do.
I know nothing about Lightroom, or Aperture, as I have no need to shoot RAW files. As I said, Photoshop is the only program I use. For me, it covers everything. I do weddings, portraits, restorations, manipulations, Covers for CD's and books. So my confusion is when you say that Lightroom suits your needs better when it covers fewer areas than Elements. In other words, why get Photoshop when you feel that Elements is lacking? -
Pixel Bender Gallery Error in Photoshop CS4 Student Edition
When trying to access pixel bender filters with Photoshop CS4, filters>Pixel Bender>Pixel Bender Gallery, I get an Error dialog images as follows...
I have read the ReadMe file and have the GeForce 8500 GT Video Card on this list.
The Pixel Bender Toolkit is installed at C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Utilities\Pixel Bender Toolkit c/w pbk filters that run in the toolkit.
In Photoshop there are a number of pbk filters in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Pixel Bender Files.
The Operating system for the computer is Windows XP Professional c/w service pack 2 at least.
My question is... why am I getting this error message and how can It be fixed?Here are two further images and an NVIDIA System Information report you asked for that I have prepared, I hope this will help.
I am aware that I could download trial versions of Photoshop CS5 and its Pixel plugin version, but first, this first image shows a message that loads from Photoshop CS4 when I start the program and has always done so from day one of owning the machine and the software, could this be of relevence to what could be the root of the issue at hand.
I also use 3D Studio Max with OpenGL and have noted rotating moving objects in 3D space of a file size of 10MB is very slow and chuggie, is this relevent, does this information give any clues.

Photoshop CS4 Persistently Crashes Leopard 10.5.7
Some help with this problem would be great.
We are running a Mac Pro Intel 8-Core with the ATI Radeon HD 4870 on OS X 10.5.7
Throughout the day and quite randomly Photoshop CS4 will hang and a crash log will either be generated by the Finder or Photoshop. I will attach as many crash logs as I can. Is this a hardware problem??We've been seeing the exact same thing (almost identical reports) for almost a year now. It has gotten to the point where the crashes have simply become part of the workflow. It passed the point of frustration months ago.
We reported the problem to Adobe when it first began happening and ran through all the tests.
- Complete uninstall / fresh install
- adjust memory usage in PS (50, 60, 70, 80, 90,100%)
- run with no filters / plugins
- run in safe mode
- checked video cards for current drivers / specs (all brand new and all up to date meeting all PS requirements and then some)
None of these things has resolved the issue. We're convinced that there is a serious issue with how PS utilizes memory within OSX. No one seems to care other than the apparently few of us affected. -
Opening in raw in photoshop CS4
I just got CS4, upgrading from elements. I am wanting to open photos from Aperture into PS in the camera raw plug in option that comes with CS4.
Anyone know how to achieve that?
I know how to find a picture in a file and open it manually, but hoping for a shorter version.
Another question would relate to the aperture library. Can photoshop 'see' into that library or does it only work through Aperture?Appreciate the feedback.
I wasn't sure what referenced were and the difference, so I looked them up. Best as I understand it then, if I go with referencing my files from now on, I'm essentially creating my own hierarchy of files and managing them myself. Then I get Aperture to "see" them so I can ... do what? Make small adjustments?
Help me better to understand why a person would want to reference and then use Aperture. I was thinking the whole purpose of Aperture was to help organize and structure files in a relatively mindless fashion, good for people like me who do not desire to make individual folders and manage all the photos myself. Not that there's anything wrong with that, just time consuming and more than I care to do.
I'm guessing the advantage of referenced + Aperture is that I can then browse through them easily with Aperture as the viewer of the files, and use Apertures features for raw adjustments?
Here's some background: started with a 35 mm camera and iPhoto a few years back. Lots and lots of pictures. Then got a digital camera a couple of years ago, elements, and found the need to manage my pictures with Aperture. Now tens of thousands of pics later...can't recall why I felt I needed Aperture, except the organization side of it and the quick viewing. Now I'm going another step further and realizing all about raw files in my camera, the editing abilities, and so forth.
Couple of weeks ago I attended a Scott Kelby seminar on photoshop CS4, I'm hooked. What I can do through that program is addicting. So I got PS CS4 and want to use the camera raw option in PS CS4.I think I'm beginning to see a pattern where I'm slowly growing in all that the world of photography entails and am running into natural growing pains perhaps?
#1 - I'm wondering if Aperture does about the same thing as camera raw in PS CS4? I was able to track along with most of what he explained in camera raw as I saw a parallel option I have used already in Aperture. Any thoughts on advantages/disadvantages of staying with Aperture, using it's raw editing abilities, then using PS CS4 more for layers and filters? Pontification anyone?
#2 - Anyone care to give their opinion regarding the referenced versus importing straight into Aperture? Advantages/disadvantage of each? What reasons would I want to use one over the other?

Is there a way to set custom keyboard shortcuts for Liquify and Vanishing Point filter interfaces in Photoshop CS4? When I change my keyboard shortcuts preferences for Photoshop, they don't change for these filter interfaces. Is there another way?
what is the problem ??
I tried to change the shortcut for the Vanishing Point and Liquify from
Edit -> keyboard shortcuts(button) -> keyboard shortcuts (tab) -> filter (tab)
and you will find these filters :
double click on it and make a new shortcut
but it MUST be Ctrl + (any letter) or you can make it Ctrl + Alt + (any letter)
but if you made it just one lettre like S for example
you will can't make a shortcut.

White balance feature in Photoshop CS4?
Is there a white balance feature in Photoshop CS4 [like in Lightroom]?
WB is a bit of misnomer... what your fiddling with is temperature. And it's not always in balance or using white (what is white in higher dynamic range images anyway?).
To be honest I find the wb approach a bit cludgy in PS and far prefer to look at it in ACR if I can.
Curves in LAB has th best response for me to correct colour casts... the colour balance tool in RGB is really doesn't live up to its name...as per the photo filters that dont. As ACR shows, you cant just slap orange over an image and say its warmer. -
I cannot save custom lighting effects in Photoshop CS4
Under Filters>Render>Lighting Effects.
Whenever I try to save a custom lighting effect in Photoshop CS4 an error message pops up saying "An error occurred while trying to save the style."
I am using an iMAC.

Thanks for any help.I solved the problem by deleting my original user account, but saving all my files first. I created a new account with adminstrative access, then opened up my old user files from the Deleted User folder and dragged them over to my new user account. The problem with saving custom lighting effects in Photoshop is fixed. Thanks for the tip leading me to realize it was the user profile causing the problem and not Adobe PS.
