Photoshop CS4 is closing my layers windows

As the title says, whenever I minimize PS when I maximize it (or open some PSD file) Layers are closed and I need to double click it to expand it, and that's kinda annoying :\ Are there some kind of options for setting this thing up? I have looked in Panel properties, but no luck...

As far as i am awear there are no options for this, however, how do you have Photoshop opened up on screen? Is it full screen or window view, for example? I've found a few annoying minor things go wrong with the UI like pallets go out of alignment when minimized the maximixed if the app is in full screen, so to get round that i make it window viewed by drag the corners to make it look like its full screen. Maybe something small like that could "fix" it.

  • 64 Bit Photoshop CS4 running on 64 Bit WIndows 7 - does it work for anyone?

    Hi,
Is anyone running 64 BI Photoshop CS4 running on 64 Bit WIndows 7 without any problems?   Mine is totally unusable due to wild erratic brushes (clone, healing, eraser and more).  I have had zero success with Adobe.  Two weeks after posting a support incident, they finally responded with an answer that had absoutley nothing to do with my support ticket.  Unbelievable.  SO maybe I'll get another response in 2 more weeks.
I have another thread that explains my problems, but that is not the purpose of this post. For this I am interested in what configurations people are using with 64 bit CS4 and 64 bit Windows 7, especially, what graphics cards are you using in the situations where there are no problems.  I will even buy new graphics cards, because I have to.  I cannot work as is.
Is anyone using dual graphics cards successfully with 64 bit Win 7 and 64 bit CS4.  if so, what cards?
    Thanks

PS CS4 does not support dual cards (or dual GPU cards) so the other card in the case is not being used.
    Set up is simple:
    M4A79T delux MB
8 gigs of corsair dominator ram timings 8,8,8,24 2T CMD4GX3M2B1600C8
    AMD 965 Quad 140 watt
    ATI 5870 with 9.11 drivers
    PS CS4 Extended 11.0.1 update
    Simple USB keyboard
    MS Comfort Optical 3000 mouse
Windows 7 professional 64 bit plus updates. Aero turned on.

There isn't much here which is actionable.  Please review your installation logs by following the steps listed at Troubleshoot installation with install logs | CS3, CS4 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-installation-install-logs-cs3.html.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS4 has Stopped Working on Windows 7

Hey guys and girls. I recently got a new computer running Windows 7 64bit. I still have good ol photoshop cs4 and wanted to use it on this new computer. The install process was completed and as I started the program, I get the "Adobe Photoshop CS4 has stopped working" box. I've looked through some forums, and a lot of them mention the wacom tablet issue, which is not the issue since I've yet to install the drivers for my tablet. Has anyone come across this problem at all? This is what shows up when I get that error box.

      C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Temp\WERE1B8.tmp.appcompat.txt

    Please help, thanks in advance

The first thing that I would do is insure that you have the latest video driver installed (but do keep any older ones, just in case you must roll-back - newest is not always the best).
If that does not help, then open Even Viewer, and check for all warning, or error messages in System and Application tabs, for the time that PS crashed. If you find any with links, follow those links - be patient, as some might take a few moments to send data to MS, and then for MS to process it, to open the proper page for that link plus the data gathered. This ARTICLE goes into a bit more detail, and I do not think that it is too Adobe Premiere-centric.
    Good luck,

  • Photoshop CS4 SDK and 64-bit Windows

Will there be an SDK for 64-bit Windows or do we just use the CS3 SDK and compile plug-ins in x64 mode?
Does CS4 support both 32-bit plug-ins and 64-bit plug-ins when the 64-bit version of Photoshop is installed?

Well, now that Photoshop CS4 has released, we have some answers. Yes, there is an SDK at http://www.adobe.com/devnet/photoshop/sdk/. Yes, both 32-bit and 64-bit environments are supported on Vista-64. This is done by installing 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Photoshop.
    Nicely done!

  • Unable to close Photoshop CS4 (64 bit) - Process in Windows Task Manager remains open

    Hi everyone,
    I've just upgraded to CS4
When i launch Photoshop for the first time, it's running normally.
But if i close it, it seems to be closed, but a photoshop.exe (64 bit) process is still remaining in memory and i can't launch
Photoshop until a kill the first process.
The computer is is Windows Vista 64 bit with 8GB of RAM and a Ndivia Geforce 9400 GT graphic card.
The problems remains if I disable OpenGL or reset prefs.
I only have the 64 bit application installed and for the rest seems fine.
    All help is welcome !

I assume you reboot the computer after removing the buggy software?
I would do a search on your computer for the software and see if there are any remaining folders. If so remove them and reboot.
This is a good free removal software. It is called CCleaner and it will remove any junk remaining on your computer. Give that a try. It also has a registry cleaner too.
Up to you if you wish to use the registry cleaner. May help because there might be something left over from removing the software that is triggering the problem still.

  • Photoshop CS4 (and AI, Illustrator) for Windows 8

    Just realized it's CS4 (I use CS5 at work)...
I can't find where this has been asked directly in another forum, but it seems like an obvious question:
Can I install and run CS4 products in Windows 8 Pro x64? Windows Upgrade Manager said there was an issue (when reviewing my apps) and sent me to the Adobe site where it seemed to want to point me to a $375 upgrade to CS6. I hope this is not the only way to run on W8. Anyone?
    Thanks!

I concur, all CS4 apps (32-bit* - see below) run quite well in Windows 8 Pro (64-bit).  I am experiencing better performance than when I had XP Pro 64-bit on the same machine; However, the following may be of interest:
    Per Adobe:
    1.  CS4 was never certified for 64-bit systems and the latest service pack was a prerequisite for all previous 64-bit Microsoft operating systems.
Sidenote:  The latest service pack for XP 64-bit is actually found under the Server 2003 Service Pack downloads on the Microsoft site.
    2.  All CS4 products are actually only 32-bit except Photoshop which exist in both 32 and 64-bit versions in the installer.
Regarding Photoshop (in my experience - see my system details below for comparison):
    1.  The installer is supposed to install the 32-bit version on 32-bit systems and install both the 32 and 64-bit versions on 64-bit systems, however, with Windows 8 Pro 64-bit, it only installed the 32-bit version of Photoshop.  (I then wiped my drive, reinstalled the OS and then reinstalled CS4 chosing the 64-bit version of Photoshop in the custom install options)
    2.  If you manually select to install the 64-bit version of Photoshop (in lieu of the 32-bit version using the custom install options), the 64-bit version will fail to run, even using any of the compatibility options provided. (I then wiped my drive and went back to a default install of CS4).
    Bottom line:
Be aware that if you select to install Photoshop (64), it may not run and since the 32-bit version is not installed when the 64-bit version is selected, you will have to uninstall the 64-bit version and then reinstall the Photoshop component allow the default 32-bit version to be used.
    For reference:
    Environment:
    Machine: Toshiba R25-3513 convertible TabletPC
Processor: Intel Core2 Duo processor (T5200) (Does not support hyperthreading - which may be my issue)
    OS: Windows 8 Professional 64-bit

  • Photoshop CS4 graphics problem solved in Windows 7 -64 bit

I recently spent several days tracking down why i was getting odd graphical behaviour in CS4.
Often, while using the polygon lasoo tool andother tools, the screen woud jump and the selection would stop in mid-stream.
I also noticed other odd behaviors.
the solution was to turn of the AERO effects by right clicking on the desktop, choosing personalize and choosing "classical theme".
Prior to this problem, when I started the latest premiere pro, I couldn't access the tabs in the choose settings fields. After talking to tech support, we found that I had set my default font size for Windows 7 to 125% of normal, so i could see the high res screen better. Resetting it to 100% by right clicking the desktop choosing settings, advanced, cleared up the problem.
I hope this helps other users avoid similar headaches.

    Thanks for posting the information.

  • Photoshop CS4 Crash, Unsaved Document, Layers Gone?

I was working on a psd with multiple layers, having not saved, the program crashed. I reopened the file and my layers (that were saved from a previous session) were gone- leaving me with a flat image. Why?
Is there a way to retrieve them, I am assuming not?
    Thanks!

Norton is NASTY stuff in OS X.  Stay away from anything with the Norton name if you're on any version of OS X, especially do NOT let anything with the Norton name (like Norton Anti Virus, File Saver) ever reside on your computer.
NAV (Norton Anti Virus) can lead to permanent file damage.  Files damaged by NAV are not recoverable.  NAV can also prevent many PostScript files from parsing, even if not damaged permanently.
Disk Doctor and Speed Disk are known to cause the kind of directory damage that can lead to kernel panics.
    http://www.macmaps.com/kernelpanic.html
Another excellent reason to steer clear from all things Norton!
The kernel panic FAQ is divided by the order of most common occurrences of kernel panics:
    • Directory
    • Drivers
    • Permissions
    • RAM
        1. A directory failure or user accidentally moving .kext files that should be left alone. The directory may fail, due to an accident caused by Norton Utilities or Systemworks, which may at random corrupt a directory even when trying to repair it. Norton Anti-Virus will not do this, but Norton Disk Doctor and Norton Speed Disk have a history of doing this.  [emphasis mine]

  • Photoshop Cs4 doesn't work :(

Hi! I'm italian, excuse me because I don't speak English very well!
I have this problem with Photoshop CS4:
my operating system is windows vista 64 bit,I has installed many times the version of test of Photoshop Cs4, the installation goes to good, but in the moment I try to use Photoshop, windows says me " the program has stopped of work" and it is closed all…
I have watched in the visual display unit of events of windows, in the section registries of windows and the error that appears is the following one:
" Application that it has generated the Photoshop.exe error, 11.0.0.0 version, timestamp 0x48d3882e, module that has generated the error nvoglv32.dll, version 8.17.12.58 96, timestamp 0x4c378f09, code exception 0xc0000005, offset error 0x000a85db, ID process 0xe14, date and hour of start of the application 0x01cb706c671eed10."
I hope that someone can help me, thanks!

Hi Mylenium! Thanks you...but in that way I can adjust my configuration? And which configuration?
And when you say: "install a newer one", you refer to Photoshop? Because I have installed many times it.
Excuse me for all these questions and for the disturbance!

  • Photoshop CS4 crashes

Mac OS 10.4.11, Powermac G5, 1.5 gig RAM. After working for a few minutes in Photoshop CS4, the dreaded non disappearing window would appear saying "Could not complete your rquest because of program error". Had to force quit each time. Adobe support was quite helpful. After trying numerous fixes (trashing preferences, repairing permissions, addressing colorsync issues, deleting version Cue, etc, etc., we finally found that the problem stopped when we turned off all the fonts in Fontbook. We left it that I would experiment with different fonts to find where the conflict is. Unfortunately, I have >600 fonts. Anyone have any suggestions about likely suspects?
Also, has anyone else run into a similar situation? I'm wondering if this is a common problem and Adobe will come out with another repair update.
Thanks in advance for any input.

FontAgent Pro is the best font manager out there. It will find corrupt fonts. Fontbook is pretty sucky as font managers go.
Next you only have 1.5GB RAM 10.4 takes up a chunk of that Photoshop needs as much RAM it can get. And you have 600 fonts active at the same time. Each font is an application that uses RAM. So with that little RAM no wonder it will not work.

  • Installation and compatibility issues with photoshop CS4 - Win 8

I recently purchased a new computer with Windows 8. I am experiencing issues when attempting to install the downloaded and upgrade copy of photoshop CS4. Initially unpacking the software presented issues, but I believe they've been resolved - specifically I had to change the folder attribute from read only  while unpacking, of course the tedium arose when this endeavor didn't seem to apply the new attributes to all subfolders and files. I percivered though by repeating it for each folder throughout. When I select the icon for the setup.exe file though the process ends as quickly as it began. I considered that it my have been seeking the previous version (in my case photoshop elements) so I sought to install it first, but as you may have guessed the old software is experiencing it's own compatibility issues. Does anyone know if photoshop CS4 will even work in Windows 8, and I hope someone will have already cleared this hurdle and can give me direction - please, I really am hoping for a life preserver here!
    Thankyou, Chris
PS I did attempt to open one of the attached adobe reader files that came with the downloaded copy, but unfortunately they won't open prior to installation given they show the file size 0kb. I don't know if these files are simply acting as place holders for the cab files - or whether there remains an issue while unpacking the files to begin with.

If the executable doesn't even run, it's either being shut down by some security stuff on your system or can't find a component. Impossible to tell. whiel there may be compatibility issues, on a more general level CS4 should run on Win 8...

  • Photoshop cs4 - changes seen only in small layers panel window

Hello.  I am operating from a mac, using Photoshop, CS4.  When I make any kind of change or alteration to my image, the change shows up only in the layers panel small display window, not on the actual image.  I have the correct layer selected etc.

Is the layer you are editing the topmost in your layers panel? Is it getting obscurred by a layer above it — perhaps even a blank white layer?
