Photoshop CS4 missing files after uninstall of CS3

I upgraded the Adobe Creative Suite CS3.3 Design Premium today to CS4 on my MacPro. The upgrade went smoothly. After using the Adobe uninstaller for CS3 and starting Photoshop CS4, an error message appeared stating that required support files were missing, re-install Photoshop CS4. After a second Photoshop CS4 installation all is well.
Apparently the CS3 Design Premium uninstaller is removing a file required for CS4 also.
This is not an isolated incident, as it happened again when installing CS4 on my MacBook Pro. I have also read of similar incidents in other forums. It seems to affect only Photoshop CS4.
Jerry

As I no longer require CS3 on my Mac after upgrading to CS4 and waiting for the required plugins to be available I have successfully uninstalled CS3 using the Adobe CS3 Creative Suite uninstaller.
NOTE: please make a copy of the 'Adobe Unit Types.osax' found Macintosh HD/Library/ScriptingAdditions/Adobe Unit Types.osax
At home did this without making a backup of the 'Adobe Unit Types.osax', so when I launched Photoshop CS4 it suffered from the "Error: "One or more files in the Adobe Application Support folder.."
At work I did this with making a copy of 'Adobe Unit Types.osax', place it back after the uninstall of CS3... and presto so far so good.
for the 'Error: "One or more files in the Adobe Application Support folder... are missing' when you start Photoshop CS4 (Mac OS)" read here:

sorry if this has already been posted, I could not see this anywhere.

I have a Mac computer and am trying to use a Photoshop CS4 program, but after accessing my desktop files through Adobe Bridge and clicking twice on any of the pictures to get into Photoshop, instead of entering photoshop, I get on the lefthand side an enlarged version of the picture with red, yellow and green buttons on top. Any suggestions on what is wrong, or what can be corrected ?

And there is the problem. Your pictures are opening up in Mac's own Preview app.
Do you want all your jpegs to open in Photoshop, or only when you are in Bridge?
Selecting a program to open a certain file is called: File Type Association.
You can choose this at the MacOS level or the Bridge level.
    Here's how to do both:
Either MacOS or Bridge has the wrong app associated with the jpeg. Let's start with MacOS
Close Bridge and Preview. Select one of your jpegs, and press Cmd i, That will bring up the file info window.
Go down to the "Open with" section of File Info.
Choose Photoshop CS4 and click on the Change All... button to apply this choice to every jpeg on your Mac.
Then open Bridge and see if double-clicking opens it in Photoshop.
Now that means all jpegs on your Mac will open in Photoshop.  Maybe you don't want that.
You can set your jpegs to open in Preview when Bridge is closed.
When you open Bridge, there is Preferences > File Type Associations where you can direct Bridge to open the jpegs in Photoshop when you are viewing in Bridge.

  • Photoshop CS4 corrupted file while save to OS X 10.5 Server

    Hello
We have or Leopard OS X Server running for months. Running CS3 Clients on 10.4.11 without any problems.
A couple of weeks ago we swapped to 10.5 Clients and all Photoshop where corrupted when using "save", the "save as" works fine. After some discussions with the Adobe Support we decided to upgrade all our clients to CS4 (very expensive, while we own CS3.3 only for 5 months now)
The Same problem occured with CS4 Photoshop. After again a discussion with Adobe Support whe switched of VersionCue support within the Preferences of Photoshop. This solves the problem for our G5 Based Machine, but all the Intel-Based machines are still corrupting the Photoshop files.
Has some experienced the same problem? Is their a bugfix our a workaround. The Problem is that using "apple-S" key is an automatic mechanism for our people for your now, you can't switch the mind in days to use "shift-apple-S" Key
Discussing the Problem with Adobe and Apple is very frustrating, they both say it is not their problem or bug but from the other.
For me Adobe should fix this bug. They offer CS4 for Leopard so they should be aware of incompatibilities with the Leopard System
Who is able to help us? Are there some workarounds
    Regards
    Gérard

It's a shame that a company who sells CS4 license for more then CHF 3500 (US$ 2500) isn't able to support the standard FileServer of Apple 10.5. In different forums I found hunderds of entries of people who has the same problem saving photoshop direct to the server under CS3 and CS4.
A workaround is a solution for a new system but OS X 10.5 Server is availible for more then 14 months now. Why didn't they debug it and solve it, the should have enough resources to solve this. I read the problem also occured on some Microsoft 2003 Server but not all.
No Bugfix? Has someone experienced or this is a MS or Apple Server Bug, or morelikely a Adobe CS3/CS4 Bug.

As long as we have no Sync Tools as Connextic "FileAgent" under OS9 I refuse to work localy. We lose to many time to sort out the whole Hierachie of all the Folder that need to be modified!

This is a solvable problem, and indeed a number of networks work just fine with remote access and saving. But it requires your experienced IT to deal with it -- to understand the particular issues with your network and how to solve them on your end. Changing an OS and its network settings, computers, software, routers and switches and their settings, cabling, other network hardware or software or their settings can affect how reliably files can be accessed and saved to a server.
As Adobe has said for years, there are just far too many network variables for Adobe to guarantee that saving to a network will always work. So they recommend: drag the file to the local volume. Work locally. Save locally. Drag the file back to the server.

  • Adobe Photoshop CC missing files in application support folder

Photoshop CC was installed and working perfectly. In order to free up hard drive space, I uninstalled Photoshop CS4.
Now every time I open Photoshop CC (or Photoshop CS 5.1) a warning message appears saying: One or more files in the Adobe application Support folder necessary to run Photoshop are missing. Reinstall Photoshop.
Dispite the warning, I click OK and Photoshop CC opens and runs fine.
I do not want to reinstall any old versions of Photoshop. So how do I get rid of the warning message?
    Thanks,
    Peter

    re-install ps cs 5.1.

  • Photoshop CS4 - Saving file displays a Quicktime Preview Error

    Hi,
I recently transferred my system from an iMac to a Macbook Pro (OS X 10.6.3). Everything seems to work except every time I now go to save a file in Photoshop (CS4) it displays a message: "Could not build a preview because of a problem with Quicktime"
I've searched forums, un-installed and re-installed Photoshop and still no fix. Even setting save Preview to 'never' in Photoshop Preferences does not help. Has anyone seen this? Is there a preferences or permission that I need to fix or trash in Quicktime?

    Hi Chris,
Thanks for your reply. I also tried reinstalling Quicktime X from the install disk (using the Pacifist application), still did not fix. I did however find that setting the Save preview preferences then closing and re-starting Photoshop does sort of fix the problem. With the Macintosh preview disabled the message does not appear so yes I would say it's an OS problem.
Would still be nice to know if there is an actual fix, as yet I haven't seen the error in any other application.
Update: I also found 'copy to clipboard' and 'paste into PS' also did not work! So after a day of erasing the MacPro hard drive and re-installing the OS and all applications from scratch everything seems to work correctly. Seems Apple's migration from one computer to another really doesn't work that well.

  • Missing files after upgrading to lr 2.3

lr 1.4 starting acting odd a couple days ago when certain photos in certain folders when clicked on and viewed in the filmstrip mode suddently changed right in front of me. they were cting like the syn mode was stuck in +20 wb. as soon as the change occured on each file there appeared an error message above it with 3 straight lines and an exclamation mark saying metadata had been charged. so i figured it was finally time to upgrade to 2.3 which i did by trying the trial issue just to see if the files showed up normal or appeared corrupted or changed too. well it got worse when the new catalog automatically loaded and of my 25,000 images nearly all say photo missing. this wouldn't be a problem if this was a couple but it is most of the catalog. i did a back up before the devil took over my machine and started changing the metadata. so i have that if i knew what to do with that info.
I was hold on the phone to tech support from 6-7 last night and have been on hold with tech support since 10 am and it is now 1:30 on the west coast. I can't do much of any of my work as all my files, editing, printing are tied to LR. i got desperate and even tried creating a new catalog but when i clicked the photos on my tree in explorer to add them to a new catalog lr couldn't see them. i have avg software and no virus, i can see my photos in explorer, adobe cs3 and in bridge. i haven't changed the placement of the folders on my computer, any changes i have done have been within lr and they were mainly adding new meta tags which also didn't come thru and renaming some of the files from 2009-3-9 to adding pt scenery etc.
i'm totally frustrated, i have spent so much time on hold i had to run out and spend $40 to buy a land phone so i could sit here without my phone battery dying. any suggestions while i sit here? i'm afraid to hang up on cs as i have been disconnected twice and they must have some sort of order in answering however at this point in time i can't figure it out.

i have been so busy trying to find the files i just went back to some older files and found that the same rendering problem still exists. i open a folder click on a photo in the filmstrip and it automatically changes before my eyes, for a second i see a message that says rendering setting changed. i didn't touch a thing it just does it. i have gone into the syn and checked that everything is unchecked and it still happens. is there some other place for the rendering setting to be changed? it can't be a preference that i've accidently changed?
For those photos that are changing, I can think of two things that it may be:
If images are edited outside of Lightroom (in Camera Raw, etc), that can change the metadata (or Develop settings) of the file.  When you view the file next time in Lightroom, the new conflicting settings are applied to that photo.
When raw files are imported into Lightroom, they initially appear with the embedded camera-generated JPEG preview. After that, Lightroom generates its own previews which typically look different than the original ones.
Not sure if it's either one of those.
so you think i can just click on your link and do the 2.4 update and things should work? i'm just not sure i want to do a backup with all the missing files, won't 2.4 open up with all the same problems or do you think the file naming issue will be corrected?
I'm not saying that upgrading to 2.4 will necessarily fix the way things are now.  I doubt that it would make it worse, though.  I think you should make sure your photos and catalog are backed up, which it sounds like you said they are, then upgrade to 2.4 (if you're not already running that version).
After the upgrade, you can go through your catalog and clean things up.

  • Left Over Files after Uninstall

IBM PC running Win 8.1 in Desktop Mode
I uninstalled PSE 8 several years ago and installed PSE 9.  I now want to uninstall PSE 9 and replace it with PSE12.  In addition PSE 8 still appears as being installed and if I select Uninstall A message appears stating that "This action is only available for products currently installed.  However when performing the uninstall using a "Powerful" uninstaller over a 100 files referring to PSE 8 still remain on my computer.  It seems that these files are slowing up PSE 9 start-up and after installing 12 I don't want both the 8 & 9 files in addition to 12 to remain on my hard drive if they are not necessary.  I think there were also some references to PSE 8 in the registry also.  I would like to know if it would be okay to delete those remaining files manually?
    Thanks

If you navigate to C:/Program Files/ you can safely delete the folder called iTunes after uninstalling the software. iTunes intentionally leaves some library files behind so that if you update iTunes, or remove and reinstall it, you don't have to worry about having your library backed up or losing your files, or anything of that nature.
Microsoft offers an option called the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, which is good for ensuring an application is completely removed from the computer after uninstalling via Add/Remove Programs. It is available for download at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
Launch it by going to Start > All Programs > Windows Installer Clean Up
Select the application you wish to remove, and then click "Remove"
    Hope this is helpful

  • Photoshop CS4 Ahmbed file

I've downloaded Adobe Photoshop CS4 today and when I tried to open the "setup.exe" the ahmbed file comes up. I've been waiting for Photoshop CS4 for awhile and I just don't know how to get rid of this ahmbed file, I've tried deleting it plenty of times. I'm out of solutions, can someone please help me?

If you downloaded (that is, purchased) Photoshop from Adobe, then you should call Adobe support. They offer free phone support for installation issues. I'm sure they'll be very interested in the "Ahmbed" issue.

  • HT5654 Missing files after the update

I am unable to start itunes since the latest update. I keep getting missing files pop up boxes and I have followed the directions and reinstalled - have tried both using the repair function and a the uninstall and reinstall function but nothing has fixed the problem. What do I do now?

    Hi there,
Earlier iTunes (and supporting applications) need to be completely uninstalled before you can install the new version. Here's the complete Apple info on this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Mobile device application will most likely fail to uninstall, so you would need to visit its location(s) and manually delete the files then folder(s). The location of the folders is documented in this link from Apple.
It's a pain, but it should work.

  • Missing Files after Lion Upgrade

After upgrading to Lion I am missing files from a folder named "printers" I had created.  The previous os used a "printer" folder but not "printers".  It seems as if the Lion operating system deleted the existing folder and placed new files in there. I've searched the computer after enabling hidden files to no avail.  Any ideas as to how to recover the files?
    Thanks

Where had you put that folder?
If in the top-level System or Library folder, that's why; those were replaced by the Lion installer, since we mere mortals are not supposed to fool with them.
Restore it from your backups, but put it somewhere else; either in a user home folder or the special Shared user folder.

  • Need help: Itunes cannot locate multiple missing files after renaming

All of music had strange names after transfering them to a new computer. I decided to use a program to rename all of them using a renaming program that renamed all of my music files based on their ID3 tags (Title, artist, etc).
Well now I went to Itunes and it cant find the any of the files (figured that), so I find one and Itunes asks if it should find more missing files, and hit yes, but it doesn't find any of the other newly renamed files. Is there anything I can do short of doing this for each individual file? Is there a way I can change Itune search parameters for finding missing files? Thanks

This is my standard post on the missing files thing...
This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
I sort of assumed the third party tool wouldn't have put things in an iTunes standard form which is why I offered my scrupt at the outset. If you can explain how they are organised I might be able to tweak up the script to work for your layout too.

  • Missing files after System Recovery, HP Pavillion G62, Windows 7, 64 bit.

    My 5 month old laptop is showing signs of slowing down. When this occurs I do a system recovery in an effort to correct any problems. After completion of system recovery I always get the following error;
(the system cannot find the file specified (Ox80070002))
                               C:\users\owner\applicationdata\locallow.
                               C:\users\owner\contacts.
                               C:\users\owner\searches.
The notice is in Notepad. None of the files can be found with a search from the main menu. If no refererence to the files can be found how does the computer know they exist? My feeling is that the computer cannot operate up to speed with missing files?
I do have some other oddities occuring but I don't think you can solve anything if files are missing.

Those are user file locations and will not affect windows or how it runs, you can ignore that error.

  • Missing files after moving itunes music folder

i moved my itunes music folder to my external hard drive using the directions posted here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301748 to the letter. a lot of things transfered but now when i look in my itunes music folder and compare to my itunes library, i see that a lot of things are missing. i really don't want to have to go through every single artist folder and check every song. shouldn't consolidating my library have taken care of this?

I just had a very similar issue, I moved my iTunes library from a 120Gb Drive to a 500Gb and the library was a bit corrupted because the main drive was full b/c of an error, but that's besides the fact.
SOLUTION To missing files, that aren't really missing because they exist and were all copied no problems.
go to the iTunes folder in your Home folder, and move the iTunes Music Library.xml file to your desktop (with itunes closed of course)
Then re-open itunes and the library file that's not an xml doc, will re-search your files and all should be well.
You should be able to safely delete the xml doc now, because iTunes made a new one.

  • Missing Files After Deleting OS X System Folder from Disk

This is my first post; I'll try to be brief.
I got a new computer (G5 dual) and so wanted to "clean up" my G4 tower for my wife's use. I had three hard drives in the G4, one of which was an 80 GB drive with OS X (Tiger, I think) on it. Another drive had OS 9 on it.
I bought a 300 GB drive for the G4 and put Tiger on that drive. Then I moved OS 9 to the 80 GB drive. In the process, far as I can remember, I deleted only the OS X System Folder from the 80 GB drive (not any prominent folders that appear in "fancy" form on the left side of a Finder Window); so, one OS on each drive.
I deleted a number of files, and moved a number of files, in the process of doing my "clean up." Those files that I *moved* I can now find, no problem. But I left some files in the Movies folder (the "fancy" folder that is on the left side of a Finder Window in OS X) on the 80 GB, and those I now cannot find. My concern is that perhaps, in deleting the OS X System Folder from that drive I somehow either 1) also deleted the Movies Folder (inside the Home Folder inside the Users Folder) by the very act of deleting the System Folder (which seems unlikely to me) or 2) I managed to "hide" the Movies Folder by deleting the OS X System Folder.
I have far more available space on the 80 GB drive than I would expect to see, given the steps I had to take to get some files onto CDs, etc. (I needed all the space I could free up, as I recall). So, this suggests the missing files just might still be there. Spotlight can't see them; booting in OS 9 and using Sherlock doesn't reveal them....
Have I inadvertantly removed these files, or is there hope that they can be restored to life? A related question: If I did delete these files, is there a way to "un-delete" them at this stage?)
Many thanks for any thought anyone may have.
    Bob ("rsimon")
    G4 Tower (pre-mirror)   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   Also have G5 dual

If you did actually delete your valuable files, you want to stop using that computer as soon as possible. You'd have a good chance to recover deleted files, unless they're already overwritten by other data.
Boot your G4 in Firewire Target Disk Mode (hold down "T" at startup) and connect it to your new G5 using a Firewire cable.
The drives inside the G4 will mount as removable media, so you can browse them and try to find your movies folder. It should be located at
    harddrive/user/username/movies.
You can use a utility like WhatSize to find large, (maybe hidden) files.
Post back, in case your data has disappeared and you need a file recovery tool.
    Good luck.
