Photoshop CS4 not autoloading scripts into menu

Hi all,
I've just done a fresh install of CS3 Suite and then CS4 right after.  I have two HD's, one is meant for OS and Apps, the other - for data.  I keep a folder called "Photoshop Files" in the data HD; that folder contains my actions, scripts, whatever.  This is good for if/when I need to reinstall apps or even the OS.
After installation of the Adobe suites, I made symbolic links that point to each necessary folder.  ex., "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Presets\Actions\myScripts" points to "D:\Files\Photoshop Files\Scripts".  Remember these are symbolic links, not just shortcuts.
Everything works OK in Photoshop CS3 - I can find the scripts in the File > Scripts menu.  However in Photoshop CS4, I cannot see the scripts.  Anyone have an idea of what's going wrong?

Re: How much RAM can PS CS4e use in Mac OS 10.5.x?
The answer is more complicated than that, and the amount of RAM that Photoshop can directly access has indeed changed as of CS3.  Elementary computing math. Both Panther and Tiger, under which Photoshop CS3 was developed and released, are 32-bit operating systems.  The 232 limitation still holds for all 32-bit applications (minus overhead/application footprint 231).  Because one bit is reserved, the calculation has to be 231, which works out to2147483648, and that's why up through CS2, the Photoshop limit was around 2 GB as it was for any other applications because of the limitation imposed by the 32-bit OS.  In CS3, the Photoshop engineers devised a workaround to circumvent the limitations of the 32-bit OS to let it access about 3 GB. (There's some overhead and rounding off.)  So, be thankful for the resourcefulness of the Adobe folks, rather than rant against the forces of nature and mathematics.

Please do not use the post title to post the entire question (no offense, it just makes the forum look ugly). As for your question - you really did install it? I mean with serial and install disc? If so, the update would work, because it would find the proper install info. That not being the case, there are a few things that may be wrong:
    - due to you language settings, the installer cannot find the folder because it has a different name (though on Vista, that shouldn't be an issue)
    - at some point, you used the CS4 Clean Utility/ Script to remove install info
    - you are using a pirated copy that you may have bought on eBay or elsewhere that has a modified installer to circumvent licensing
    - you are using an unlicensed version a "friend" gave you and that never was installed, but merely copied to the harddrive
That pretty much covers the immediate options, now it's up to you to tell us, which one may apply. Assuming, we are talking about perfectly legit software, re-installing it from the original media should take care of the problem. For illegal software, you should understand, that you are utterly on your own and nobody will help you, much less on the forums of the company producing the software.

  • MacBook Pro Photoshop CS4 not smooth zooming and fine lines are broken

I got a new MBP 15" about a month ago and am also running Win XP via bootcamp. On the Windows side Photoshop CS4 will not smooth zoom and if I zoom out, fine lines are broken apart and only partially show. When I go into the performance preferences enable opengl is checked and under advanced, advanced drawing is checked, but the use for image display is grayed out no matter what I do.
On the Mac side it works fine using either the 9400 or 9600 chipsets so considering Windows uses the 9600M GT which is the discrete one, it should work.
There's no driver updates here on Apple.com and Nvidia.com says there is an update available, but when it tries to install it says the hardware isn't supported... even though on the screen before it says it is.

  • Edit in adobe photoshop cs4 not working

    Hi there!
    I have Lightroom 2.3 & Adobe Photoshop CS4 installed.
The "edit in adobe photoshop cs4" function is not working for my RAW files (DNG). When I select "edit in adobe photoshop cs4", Photoshop is started up, but it doesn't load anything. It is working for other formats like JPG/TIF/PSD, as an -EDIT version though.
Anyone any idea? Thanks in advance!

Normally, when this happens it's because the version of Camera Raw installed with Photoshop doesn't support your camera. You haven't mentioned which camera you are using, but it's probably worthwhile downloading the latest version of Camera Raw (currently 5.3, but there's a release candidate of 5.4 available from http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Camera_Raw_5.4

  • Photoshop CS4 not opening & Wacom Cintiq 20WSX driver problem

    Hello,
I have been using Photoshop CS4 for quite sometime now with no issues. I have just started using a Wacom Cintiq 20WSX and installed all the necessary drivers and now Photoshop will not open (I have seen other threads relating to Intuos tablets but not the Cintiq 20WSX).
I have unistalled the Wacom drivers and Photoshop will open, on reinstalling the Wacom drivers the problem starts again "Photoshop cs4 has stopped working".
I am running Windows 7 Home Prem 64bit. Photoshop CS4 has all current updates and I am using the most recent driver for the 20WSX from Wacoms site.
Any suggestions as this is really really frustrating. (I have not yet attempted to uninstall Photoshop and reinstall it)
(Incidently I am using the Production Premium CS4 Suite and everyhting else appears to be unaffected -AE, AI are opening with no issues)
    Thanks!

Hi. I had the same problems with my Intous4 as well, and since both cintiq and Intuos use the same driver it probably is the same.
Try this. Uninstall the wacom, unplug it, restart the pc. Then download the latest driver from the wacom site (if you didn't already), and install that latest driver alone, without installing the one that came with the cintiq. This is how I solved my problem, it wouldn't open PSCS4 64bit and AE

  • Why is my Photoshop CS4 not installing both 64 and 32 bit versions?

    Hello,
I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit.
I purchased and downloaded Photoshop CS4 Extended and it installed as a 64 bit program. Now I need a 32 bit version also (for some Nik plugins), but the installer didn't install the 32 bit version (it would be in Program Files (x86). It should have installed both as a default.
Also, I didn't change the default pathing as I know that can screw the install up.
I ran the install program again and it runs through the complete install without giving me the Options Panel to select which version 64 or 32 (or both) to install.
Should I completely uninstall PS and reinstall to see if I get the install Options Panel?  Other Ideas?
    Thanks!
    Chris

"it is not possible to just install the 32 bit version without an uninstall?"
It's a great idea, but I don't know how. I have the downloaded the PS CS4 file from Adobe that I used to originally install PS. I re-ran this install program and it reinstalled the same 64bit program that I already have; it never gave me any options as to which version to install.
I'm think I'll just have to de-activate, uninstall, reinstall to get the PS install Options Panel.

  • Photoshop CS4 not seeing all RAM on Mac?

I just noticed my Photoshop CS4 is not "seeing" all of the RAM I have installed on my MacPro (2x3Ghz), running Snow Leopard 10.6.1.
My "About This Mac" reports (correctly) that I have 6GB of RAM installed.
However, Photoshop's Preferences > Performance window says there is only "3072 MB" available -- or half what I have installed. I know there is system overhead for the OS, but this is with no other applications running.
I know the Windows version of Photoshop is limited to seeing 2GB RAM because it's 32-bit, but I didn't think that limitation applied to the Mac side.
I've run the memtest application on the Mac, and it doesn't report any physical problems with my chips.
Is there anything else I can check or try to get Photoshop to recognize all 6GB of RAM?
    Thanks,
    Robbie

Surprise... you are running a 32bit app as well. That is why you cannot see more RAM for Photoshop.
    (Windows installs a 32- and a 64-bit executable. Mac only installs a 32-bit app)

  • Photoshop CS4: "not supported on this architecture" error

i downloaded the trial for photoshop cs4 and it installs successfully but i cant seem to open the program. when i click on photoshop cs4, instead of the blue Ps folder, theres a picture of a cd with a red "no entry" sign on it and the error message: "not supported on this architecture".
    what's wrong?

The CD with the "no entry" is an indicator that it's not running from the proper media, as in the installed application.
It sounds almost as if you have the dmg in the applications folder and you're trying to run the application from it.
Like Chris said, PS CS4 is designed to run on PPC G5 and Intel processors so if it installed correctly, and is running from the application, (not a CD/DVD or DMG) you shouldn't see a CD icon with the red circle slash on it. It should be the blue gradient square with Ps in it, or (on very rare occasions) the generic application icon.
One other thing that could cause this is the formatting of your Mac HD. If it's not a variant of HFS (some are set up with a unix kernel which will run OS X but not some software) it could cause you problems. Check in your System Profiler for HD formatting info.

  • Photoshop CS4 not working with Maverick?

I downloaded Maverick last night after using Photoshop CS4 all day. This morning when i tried to launch it, i got a message saying i needed to download Java SE 6 runtime. I said ok, it tries to install, but i keep getting the same error "Can not download software due to network error". I called Apple Support and they said if the software worked with Mountian Lion then it will work with Maverick I was told to call Acrobat. I did and they told me it was Apple's issue. After searching online it seems that it is Apple's issue. I tried downloading the SE 7 runtime that didn't work. Not sure what to do at this point. Any help would be apperciated.

    Here is the photo :
I use a spyder to correct my display color. It seem to be blocking me from chaning the accelration.
Could that be causing the problem ?

  • Photoshop CS4 not using RAM

I'm aware that Photoshop CS4 (Mac) is a 32 bit application and therefore limited to 4 GB of RAM.
My Mac (OSX Lion) has 8 GB of RAM. So I would expect Photoshop to use 4 GB of it, but in the preferences dialogue it only lists 3072 MB "available" RAM, and even suggests to only use 1689 – 2211 MB of it. (Obviously Photoshop assumes that the Mac has not more than 4 GB of total RAM and that the user must be protected from allocating too much RAM to Photoshop.) But although I told Photoshop to use at least those 3072 MB which it assumes to be available, it doesn't even do that: According to the activity monitor, no matter how big a file is and how low the "efficiency" drops, it never uses more than 2.45 GB of RAM.
What's going on? How can I make Photoshop to use at least those 3072 MB? Is there a trick to make it use the full 4 GB which it should be able to see?

While the address space available to a 32 bit application is theoretically 4 Gig, the reality is that the OS takes a lot of space, plus the space taken by loading the application binaries and OS library code. That leaves around 3 Gig available.  After working for a while, the address space gets fragmented -- 1 Gig total might be available, but it's scattered in 1 Meg pieces around the address space so you can't really allocate a large buffer.  And as you work, the OS consumes more address space for it's purposes and Photoshop frees up space as needed.
If Photoshop uses all the available address space, then the MacOS code will start crashing because it assumes that it will always be able to allocate more memory.  And many third party plugins assume that they'll be able to allocate large chunks of memory, and tend to crash when they can't.  So Photoshop can't safely use 100% of the available address space (hence the preference).
All in all, what you're describing sounds normal for a 32 bit application.

  • Since upgrading to Snow Leopard Problems when editing picture in Photoshop CS4 - not switching to dedicated space

    Hi,
I'd appreciate your help on this, maybe I just chose a stupid set-up to begin with.
I use spaces and have allocated Space 1 to Lightroom and Space 2 to Photoshop to always have a clear backdrop when switching to Photoshop.
Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, when I choose 'Edit photo in Photoshop', Photoshop (the frame) opens fine in it's correct space, but the picture does not show. When I click on Window and on the respective picture window the picture shows but all reverts to Space 1 and I have the Lightroom window in the background so that I need to extend the Photoshop window to create a less distracting background.
Any idea why this happens or any suggestions for a better set up?
    Thanks heaps
    Claudia

    Claudia
I am running PS CS4 as an external editor for my Lightroom 2.5 installation on a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.1 and I have exactly the same 'Spaces' setup as you (i.e. LR and PS each are in their own space) but I am not experiencing the behaviour you are experiencing.
If it's of any help, you might try fiddling with the window behaviour in PS to see if it changes anything? In the "Window" menu I have selected the "Application Bar" rather than the "Application Frame".

  • Photoshop CS4 not working after installing on new machine

Hi! I'm hoping someone here may have encountered this issue and can help.
I switched from a 32-bit PC to a Mac running Windows 7 (64-bit) via Parallels. I installed CS4 and InDesign/ Acrobat are working fine but Photoshop only opens and lets me create but can't save any newly created file nor open anuything including JPGs and PSDs. The installation gave me two Photoshop versions, one says Photoshop 64 bit, and they're both saying "could not complete command because of a program error" when trying to save or "could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document" when trying to open. I installed the new patch just to be sure. Any ideas?

I'll start by saying I don't know much about Parallels, as I use VMware myself.
Are you trying to access the files across some kind of special connection to the files in your host's file system?
You may well have a permissions issue.  You need to read up on how Parallels facilitates access of your hard drive files by the Windows user who's logged-in, and what permissions you have to set up to allow that user to access them freely.
