Photoshop CS4 opening up only partially

Hi!
I am having trouble getting Photoshop CS4 to fully open up on the monitor screen.   It opens up and is showing just the very right side of the CS4 on the very far left side of the monitor.  The resizing tabs do not work. I have to shut down and restart the whole computer because if I try to use something else bits of other displays show up in the CS4 box.

Sounds like another case of a display driver with a problem.  Photoshop demands a lot of the display interface.
What kind of computer is it, what video card do you have in it, and what operating system are you running?
If you're comfortable with maintaining your system, visit the web site of the maker of your video card (e.g., nVidia.com, ATI.com, etc.), and download/install their latest display driver for your card.  This solves many display problems with Photoshop.

They are opened by Photoshop through the ACR plug-in you should make sure the ACR 5.7 update is installed for your CS4.

  • Photoshop cs4 opens images black and only in camera raw

I'm running Photoshop cs4 on a pc. Recently, it began having 2 issues. First, it started opening everything into Bridge Camera Raw instead of just opening the image itself. Next issue is that when I attempt to open an image from Camera Raw, it opens black. I can see the image is there in a layer, but the working screen is black. Every once in a while it will open normally. This is with all images, no matter what size the are.

On a Mac I don't know which directory it should be in.
Camera Raw preferences: Bridge: menu Adobe Bridge/ Camera Raw preferences.
Inhere you can set the wished behavior for tiff. By default it shows tiffs
only in ACR when you choose to do so with right mouse click menu (open in
Camera Raw) or if the Tiff had earlier been altered in ACR, then it opens
automatically in ACR unless you choose not to do so.

  • Photoshop CS4  shuts down only when creating new project.

I've had CS4 web premium since nov. 08 and everything worked fine until the most recent update from adobe.
I ONLY have this problem with Photoshop cs4: when creating a new project after selecting the aspects (name, width, hight, etc.) when you press ok it shuts down and no error is given as to why it shut down, it just does.
opening documents that had been created prior to the last update isn't a problem, I'm able to do everything Photoshop cs4 has to offer.
I can also open a file started in another program and edit them in PS CS4 (ie: fireworks , or AI).
but for some reason if I want to start a project in photoshop it just shuts down, never used to happen. any clues? any one else have a similar problem and know how to fix this?
    running on windows XP

I think you mean a new docuement - Photoshop doesn't have "projects".
Photoshop shouldn't "shut down" - there should be some message about a crash.
And the most likely causes at that point are OpenGL (try turning it off in prefs) and your default printer driver (try changing default printers).

  • Help: Photoshop CS4, Opens Adobe Help Website Automatically. Stuck in a loop.

    Hello there!
I am having an issue with Adobe Photoshop CS4 (part of Creative Suite Web edition).  Any action, including switching to the Photoshop windows automatically swaps out to Firefox and opens the Adobe help website.
My current action was converting a pentool path to a selection when the problem began.
I'm using Windows 7 on a PC.  Any help on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you.

Hi there and thank you for responding. :-)
I chose poor wording.  I wasn't using a predefined action when the problem started.  I used the pen tool to create a path and then right clicked to open the drop down, selected make selection and the error occured when the make selection dialogue box opened.
The Adobe help site then opened in Firefox.  Returning to Photoshop, even just by alt-tab swapping back resulted in the help site opening again.
Ultimaty, I didn't find a solution, and used the task manager to force Photoshop to quit/crash.
I've had the error pop up once or twice before, but it is infrequent.  I'd just like to try to find a preventitive method or solution, as so far, any time it's started, the only thing I can do is force Photoshop to quit completely.
I'm very sorry that I can't provide screenshots, but I hope that the explaination and additional system informaion might help.
    Additional Info:
I don't know if this will be of any help, but my hardware setup is as follows
Wacom Intuos 4 Tablet and Grip Pen Stylus. (The standard pen which is included with the tablet.)
Processor: Dual Intel Core i7 CPR 920 @ 2.67 GHZ
    RAM: 12.0 GB
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium Edition, 64 Bit
Graphics Card: Dual Nvidia Gforce 9800
And I am using Adobe Photoshop CS4, the version which ships with Adobe Creative Suite 4 Web Premium Edition.

  • Photoshop cs4 - changes seen only in small layers panel window

Hello.  I am operating from a mac, using Photoshop, CS4.  When I make any kind of change or alteration to my image, the change shows up only in the layers panel small display window, not on the actual image.  I have the correct layer selected etc.

Is the layer you are editing the topmost in your layers panel? Is it getting obscurred by a layer above it — perhaps even a blank white layer?

  • Flash & Photoshop CS4 Open Simultaneous Issue.

I am running Window 7 64 bit with 6 gb of RAM, two E5520 Xeons, two 10k raptors, one 320gb HD, and a ATI FirePro V5700. Brand New
machine and a Fresh install of windows.
Everytime Photoshop CS4 is open it will cause Flash Cs4 to Crash. I can work in Flash without any issues until Photoshop is opened. Flash will usually crash in under 5 min with Photoshop open. I have tested this over and over and it is Photoshop causing Flash to crash. Does not matter whether I am running the 32 or 64 bit version of Photoshop. I am starting to believe it is a memory issue but I am not sure or how to fix if it is.I have tested the memory and it passed all tests. This is really killing my production time. Help please...
    Attached is the Error Log.

I just installed the latest Wacom Driver because I noticed clicking was causing the crashes when PS and Flash are open. So far I have not had Flash crash. I am keeping my finger crossed that the Wacom tablet was the issue and it is just classic driver issues with a new release of Windows. I will post back if it starts to crash again.

  • Can Photoshop CS4 open a .CR2 file ext.?

I recently had a photoshoot done. the images are on a .CR2 ext. I was advised that I would be able to open themup in Photoshop CS4 but it's not working.  Any advice???

CR2 is a generic extension for all Canon raw files.
They will open (indirectly) in CS4 using the ACR plug-in.
You need to check the camera model and tell us – not all CR2 files are the same.

  • Why doesn't Photoshop CS4 open DNG files created in Photoshop CS5?

I download raw photo files from my Leica Dlux 4 and convert the Leica raw files to DNG files using CS5 Bridge.  Recently I discovered that when I try to access these DNG files in Photoshop CS4 I get a message saying 'cannot access this file'.  The files also do not show up as thumbnails in CS4 Bridge.  Do I need an upgrade or a plug in to see DNG files created in CS5 Bridge in Photoshop CS4?

  • Photoshop CS4 transparent layer only, no picture.

When I open a jpg, bmp or any other picture file in photo shop all that appearsis the checkerboard tranparent layer. Thee is no picture to edit. What is wrong with photoshop? It also takes forever for the blank transparent picture to load.  Windows Vista.

I found the solution after trying everything else including completely uninstalling Photoshop and deleting the files it left behind, then reinstalling did not work either. I then copied the color settings and PSP files from another computer, started Photoshop, opened a picture and everything is working fine now.
I would suggest anyone else with this problem just needs to get a copy of the files from someone else and or keep a back up of the PSP and color settings in a back-up folder as I have now. Adobe should consider a restore feature that automaticaly saves restore points. There are likely other Adobe CS4 programs that also  need to back up settings.

  • Why can't Photoshop CS4 open/save as PNG?

I recently had to downgrade to CS4 and I've been having A LOT of issues with it. The biggest one being the inability to cooperate with PNG files.
Online I've seen a few sollutions and I tried them all. I have PNG.8BI in my plug-ins folder in my Program Files, I ran it through my antivirus and it came back clean, I'm working in RBG color mode. Still nothing.
    Any other ideas?

  • Photoshop CS4 Open a smaller layer as a new smaller resized document.

    Hello,
Sorry if this question is novice.
I have a number of layers in my document which are small, I would like to export them to PSD documents and save them.
I would like the new document size in pixels to automaticaly resize around the object on the layer.
At  the moment what is happening is this. My original PSD is something like  1500x2000 pixels I take a small object which is 20x30 pixels, deselect  all the other layers and save it. What I've saved is a transparent  1500x2000 document with a small object in the middle of it, rather than  just a 20x30 document with a 20x30 image in it.
Please  do not say new document -> resize to 20x30. There are so many little  images and as I don't know all their pixel dimensions it would take me 2  days to resize the document exactly to the little image size.
Is it a script I need? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Open the actions panel (Window > Actions). Create a new action set called "my actions". Then create a new doc with one layer and the layer highlighted in blue in the layers panel.
Now go to the actions panel and create a new action "my action". Once it's recording, go to the layers panel and ctrl-click on the layer thumbnail. This selects the transparency. Then Image > Crop. Stop recording the action and throw away the temporary doc.
Go to your master file and use the layers to files script to save out the layers into a folder called "my small layers". Then use the File > automate > batch command and run "my action" with the source folder as "my small layers" and the destination of "save and close". Be sure there are no files in "my small layers" but ones that you just exported.

  • Photoshop CS4 Crashes When Opening Image - Other Adobe Programs Work

I'm at the end of my rope here.
The problem is (that has spontaneously occurred) is that Photoshop CS4 opens fine.  I go to Open, select image, it loads it on screen for a few seconds ,and then I get this Photoshop  has stop working and it closes out - no error codes or explanations.
    I have updated.
I have reinstalled with a clean it all up program beforehand.
The Open GL drawing is disabled.
    I have reset preferences.
Other Adobe programs (e.g., Premiere Pro) work fine.
Nothing particularly new or special done to computer except that I changed from AVG Antivirus to Microsoft Security Essentials.
    Windows is updated (I'm Vista - 32bit).
Is the problem my driver (a NVDIA GeForce 6150 nforce 430)?  It's updated to the current version, do I need to find the download for an older version and go back in time?
I have only 2GM in RAM (there's plenty of room on the hard drive btw), but I can't spend more money on this 3 yr + computer.  Do I need to set my RAM preferences differently?
And I've not had this problem before, it's always worked.
To prevent me from losing my mind any further, any help would be appreciated.

If OpenGL drawing is disabled, then the video driver isn't too likely.  Most of the problems in drivers show up with OpenGL drawing enabled.
But printer drivers and fonts can sometimes cause issues.
And there's always a chance that the video driver is failing at something simple (like drawing a menu or cursor).
