Photoshop CS4 or 5 curves command-option-shift click

Back in the day, if you did the combination of command-option-shift click while in the curves adjustment window, it would mark those points on all channels so you could then make adjustments to that one place. That seems to be gone. Is it? Is there a replacement? That click/drag curve point is not what I'm needing.

Open Curves panel.
Activate Targeted Adjustment Tool (the little finger thingy).
Command-click on image places a point on the active curve.
Shift-command-click places points on the all of the color channel curves.
Cycle through channels:
Option-2 for composite channel
Option-3, 4, 5, 6 (if CMYK) for individual color channels.
Takes a while to get used to, but it's the reality now. You'll get used to it.

Command option mouse click

Hi,
Since I upgraded to Lion I have the problem that I'm unable to use ccommand, option, shift and alt with mouse click.
Keyboard shortcuts still word, but the combination with the mouse doesn't work.
The strange thing is that at first it worked then suddenly anymore then it worked again and now since the last reboot it doesn't work anymore.
Does anyone have an idea what the cause is?

It's OK and fixed my problem with 90%. Before New Tab which I wanted to open in Background, was opening just after main Tab. Now New Tabs are opening in Background, but at the end...
But it's OK - like Safari.

Photoshop CS4 Active Window in Color option ?

I can't find a way to make the active document stand out from the inactive documents in CS4.
Sometimes I have multiple windows opened, and it was handy in CS3 to have the active
document stand out from the inactive ones, to avoid confusion about which document is
being edited.
Is there any way to distinguish the title bar of the active window as before ?

I'm not joking; if you look very closely you will see that the text on the title bar is black on the active document and grey on the others.
Very helpful! Just as helpful as losing the ability to right-click the title bar for that handy context menu.
These are elementary oversights on the part of the UI design team. According to Nack this whole UI was designed with the aim of being easier to use than the old one (which most of us were happy with).
EPIC FAIL!

Trying to get Photoshop CS4 functional with Mavericks and an Epson 3880 printer. CS4 fails to send a file to the print queue. Have reinstalled the Epson 3880 driver for Mavericks. All looks good but no file is sent.

What EXACT version of Photoshop CS4 are you running? You should be on Photoshop CS4 v 11.0.2.
Also run Apple's software update to see whether it offers you the latest Epson update:

MOST IMPORTANTLY: have Photoshop re-create its own Preferences:
To re-create the preferences files for Photoshop, start the application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"
Note: If this process doesn't work for you while you're using a wireless (Bluetooth) keyboard, attach a wired keyboard and retry.
Important: If you re-create the preferences by manually deleting the Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings file, make sure that you only delete that file. If you delete the entire settings folder, you also delete any unsaved actions or presets.
Reinstalling Photoshop does not remove the preferences file. Before reinstalling Photoshop, re-create your preferences.

Photoshop CS4 freezes when adding text to box.

Typing text into a rectangle box freezes Photoshop with the unclose-able error box "Could not complete your request because of a program error"
Force quit and clean-start with command-option-shift Start Photoshop and still same error. I can type text into the box for about 10-20 characters and then error box again.
Using PS CS4 v11.0 with OS 10.5.6 with G5 Dual 2 Ghz PowerPC accessing files on external firewire drive.
Any suggestions?

Corrupted font cache(s).
Cleaned out and dumped all caches with Cocktail and restarted clean. A-OK now.

Photoshop CS4 quits when saving

When I save a document, Photoshop unexpectantly quits. I'm running Mavericks on a late 2009 iMac. 8Gb of RAM. 300+Gb of hard drive available.
I've ran DiskWarrior, Apple's Disc Utilities, Restarted the iMac.
I've held-down Command, Option, Shift when starting Photoshop.
I've removed the Adobe Photoshop CS4 Prefs.psp file.
I've deleted third-party brushes and restored the default brushes.
Thinking it was font related, I used Suitcase Fusion and FontDoctor to find any corrupted fonts. It found some. I set those aside.
Nothing has helped.
I've noticed when I close a Photoshop document after working in it, then choose Save from that dialog box, it saves my work and Photoshop doesn't unexpectedly quit.
I noticed in a Guest account on the computer, Photoshop seems to work fine (it doesn't unexpectedly quit when I save).
Does anybody have any other ideas?

Photoshop CS4 transform selection bug?

Hello.
First off a minor rant about these forums. I already had a Adobe ID which doubles for a forum login ONLY ON FORMER MACROMEDIA FORUMS! I have to have a completely different login for original Adobe software forums. Jeez WTF?
Ok so if I make a selection in Photoshop CS4 Extended, then go to transform selection and transform the selection, the resulting selection has a 1-2 pixel semi transparent edge. I have double checked my settings so make sure there is no feathering applied. It only happens when I use select>transform selection. It is driving me nuts as I use this method for making pricise selections in my regular workflow. I find it easier to make a close selection then resize with transform. But now when I go to paste it into a new layer/document there's now a "feathered" edge for lack of a better term. So now I have to either use add/subtract from the selection or make a precise selection in the option bar.
has anyone else noticed this in their PS CS4? I never noticed it in CS3. I'm contemplating going back to CS3 as the "tabbed" interface is balls as is app frame. And yes I know I can turn it off which I have, but still have to deal with inadvertent document tabbing when moving windows around.

Kevin, you won't lose your workspaces, just the settings from the Preferences menu item and your Color Settings. But, here's a tip: next time you have to re-set them, just record yourself in an action as you're doing it. Next time all you have to do is run the action. :)
Oh, and you don't have to trash any file(s) manually. Just hold down Command Option Shift as you launch Photoshop.

Every time I open my Photoshop CS4 I get the following pop-up:
When I load an image file I get this pop-up and my Photoshop closes:
I am running Vista and have had CS4 since it first came out, and never encountered any problems.I have a NVIDIA GeForce 7100 that is up to date, and GPU acceleration is enabled in my Photoshop.
If anybody can suggest what might be going on and how I could fix that, I would greatly appreciate it!

I'd start by resetting the photoshop cs4 preferences:
Press and hold the Shift+Ctrl+Alt keys just after starting the launch of photoshop cs4.
Keep holding the keys down until you get a dialog asking if you want to Delete the adobe photoshop settings file.
Press Yes because you do.
In that dialog about graphics card acceleration, you can check Don't Show Again
If resetting the preferences doesn't solve the issue, try turning off Enable Open GL Drawing and restarting photoshop cs4
If that works, then most likely something has gone awry with your graphics card driver.
(you might have to reinstall the graphics card driver)
Double check the Nvidia website to be sure you have the latest graphics card driver updates

Compatibility of Dreamweaver 3 with Photoshop CS4

I have Photoshop CS4 and want to buy Dreamweaver CS3 (because it's less expensive than 4).... will there be any compatibility issues if I do this? Or does this even matter? I have never used Dreamweaver which is why I'm asking.

CS3 is a previous version so make sure you are buying this from a legitimate source. Also with Photoshop CS4 you do have the option to upgrade to a discounted suite.
Anyways, back to your topic, no there should not be any issues. There are some added features in CS4 such as the ability to handle PSD files, but it's really not a big deal and I can tell you from my experience I typically export slices from Photoshop and build the HTML by hand in DW to make it work. So you should be fine if you go with CS3.

Photoshop CS4 Epson Stylus 3880

Using photoshop CS4 with an Epson Stylus 3880 printer photoshop CS4 will not allow the option of "have photoshop manage colors" option in the print window. Is there a way for the printer to recognize this option?

I take it you are seeing "Photoshop Manages Color" in the print dialog box? Epson drivers are pretty good, so I'm not surprised you are getting somewhat better results with "Printer Manages Color". The key is to apply the RGB and CMYK profiles used in Photoshop in the driver dialogs. For instance, if you've set the RGB work space in Photoshop for Adobe RGB, then ( I would ) use the same profile in the driver. Some images perform well in sRGB; but I typically stay away from sRGB because of its limited color gamut. I've used "Colorsync" in the print dialogs, but there are several other options you can try to get closer. The Blues and Reds you see on screen will sometimes not be able to be printed with certain printers because of their limitations. However, you've said you didn't have problems before and now with this new printer you are seeing new problems. Try contacting Ballard again and see if he has any recommendations. He might even be able to calibrate that printer for you. Or, try a third party calibration service like ColorHQ.com. If you apply an RGB profile in Photoshop, like the Adobe RGB profile, then you are somewhat having Photoshop manage color in the application. By selecting "Let Printer Manage Color" in the print dialog, you are telling the driver to honor the color coming out of Photoshop and you can confirm that by selecting Adobe RGB in the print dialogs. I would experiment with all of the RGB profiles ( Colormatch, ProPhoto, Adobe RGB, and sRGB ) to see which one performs the best using the print driver.

Photoshop cs4 install fails on Vista with registry access error 1406

I've been trying to install Adobe Photoshop CS4 on my Vista for a couple of days now. It grinds for a minute or two then tells me "Installation of the following components has failed: Adobe Drive CS4, Adobe Photoshop CS4" when I cancel the install and click the "More Information" button, I see this:

Error 1603. Error 1406.Could not write value AdobeCS4ServiceManager to key \SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
When I go into regedit, I have no problem creating a string value in the indicated key.
Here are some of the things I've tried:
1) run setup as administrator (even tho I have UAC turned off)
2) run setup in WinXP SP2 compatibility mode
3) use the Adobe Support Advisor to track down the error in their knowledge base and followed steps to apply permissions to descendents of the indicated tree
Done lots of googling plus searching of the experts-eschange knowledge base.

Choose Custom during install, deselect Version Cue, Adobe Drive and Acrobat.com. The CSI Service is related to that.

Photoshop CS4: Using pen tool to add corner anchors instead of curve anchors

Hello folks, I have searched all the resources I could think of using different phrasings, but have yet to figure out how to do this or if it can be done. I am working on a project that requires adding many corner anchors to paths. By default, using the pen tool in Photoshop CS4 adds curve anchors. Thus requiring me to add the anchor and then convert it to a corner. Is there some easy way to make PS create corners instead of curves with the pen tool? Even using the shift-cntl-alt-click combos didn't help? Would save me time and sanity!

I think if you just click and don't move the mouse before you let off the mouse button you get corner anchors, no? But that's when you're creating the path. I guess you want to add corner anchors with the Add Anchor Point Tool?

why can't I save as my photoshop cs4 file to .png file? I don't see any option for saving .png in Save As diolog box now? It was working fine until yesterday. Neither I can open a .png file nor save my psd file to png file?

In Photoshop CS4, .png open/save support was provided by a plug-in. It is possible the plug-in has been deleted or moved, or has become unavailable to Photoshop because of a change in file protections.
Do you have the file PNG.8BI on your system. It should be here on a 32 bit Windows system:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Plug-ins\File Formats\PNG.8BI
