Photoshop CS4 performance issue

HI
we use App-V for almost all of our applications and we work with a local cache mode
as far as I know - the performance of a local application and the virtual application should be the same even if the package is big. a great example is Office 2010 App-V package which works the same as a local installation
We saw that there are some applications that run very slow comparing to a local installation on the same hardware
specifically - Adobe PhotoShop CS4 is a good example. when we load a 10MB picture and try to make a simple task like mark a selection - it takes forever for the application to response!
the weirdest think is that we tried to sequence the application both in App-V 4.6 SP3 and App-V 5.0 SP2 we got the same results. we tried the default things as reset the client's cache or allowing local interaction, com objects... etc.
I really have no idea what else we can do. as I wrote, larger applications work in our environment just fine, but there are   some that stuck us.  another application that works slower is NIS. I'm not sure if the performance issue is always from
the same reason but I'm trying to figure out what can we do to improve it
would love to get some ideas

Hello,
Since Microsoft made this claim (as stated by you), my recommendation to improve your situation still stands;
Open a ticket with Microsoft to understand the topic. My assumption would be that you could name the engineer who visited you a few years ago, and revisit the discussion you had with him and Microsoft directly.
(the statement of course goes against any independt benchmarking - such as
Project VRC,
acknowledged facts by the Community and more..)
As stated already; If you have tested all that you described, I can't offer anymore suggestions apart from the above.

  • Photoshop CS4 Extended, issues with resolution and font sizes on Mac

I have Photoshop CS4 Extended, which worked fine on my old 15 inch Macbook Pro, I think it was 2011 and had high definition display.
I now have a new 15 inch 'late 2013' Macbook Pro with retina display (2880 x 1800), and OS 10.9.4
    I have 2 problems:
    1) Using photoshop now, the resolution is a lot worse than with my old computer, even though my screen is higher resolution.
For example, the images themselves are worse resolution on my display, far less crisp and more pixelated than any of my other programs. And even the windows such as 'save as...' screens are terribly pixelated also. Is there a way to fix this?
    2) When using the type tool, I cannot find how to change the size of the font. There used to be numbers which I could change, and also select the font type, both on the top menu bar always visible. Now there is not anymore. What there is there at the top, is what looks to be a bar on top of another bar. The top layer bar is on the left and reaches about one third of the way across the top, and I can drag it by its corner so it can extend more, but not less. It looks like there are things behind it which I cannot see, because it is over the top of them. Perhaps the text size and font options are stuck behind that. What can I do?
    Many thanks!
    Justin

Hi JJMack, you said "Seems like you want a low resolution display hook and external display to it." I do not know what that means. I did a google search for "low resolution display hook" and it came up with zero results. Also I do not have an external display, only my laptop.
Does anyone know what I can do to fix this issue? I would greatly appreciate any solution.
    Thank you!

  • Photoshop CS5, Performance Issues

Just got a brand new PC at work, and i am experiencing some very strange lagging issues in photoshop.  I'll go more indepth in a minute.  My system setup is as follows:
    Windows 7, 64
    Intel i7-2600, Sandy Bridge
    16g of ram
Quadro 2000, using 2 24in LED Samsung monitors at 1920x1200
    Two LITEONIT-LAT128M2S SSD Drives
All memory resident programs arent even installed, like antivirus and whatnot.
I am currently running the 4/26/11 Quadro performance drivers, as these are WHQL and Adobe/Nvidia certified.  I have also tried the latest Nvidia drivers and experienced the same issues.
I see the issues with OpenGL on and off, and combination of all settings.  I see ZERO performance issues in any other applications i run - Adobe apps are all that I am having issues with atm.
In the 32 and 64bit exe's (doesnt matter which, though the issue seems MUCH worse in the 64bit exe) i will experience consistent lag in the application with or without a file open.   The menus and cursor will slow to a crawl for about 5 seconds, and then pick back up again. This happens with and without files open.
I have tried moving my page file between drives, i have tried shutting all windows aero enhancements off, all in combination with turning openGL support on and off.  I have also rebooted between each change.
I also experience an IDENTICAL issue when i open up the CS3 exe.
I also experience IDENTICAL issues with Illustrator, only when rendering bitmap effects to any SVG drawing.
Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong?  This PC should be an absolute monster with adobe software, however my current work experience is nothing short of frustrating.

    Noel,
Yes, brand new installation.  I cut out all the extra startup processes once i started to see this issue.  There is no antivirus running because i disabled it.  I have only about 50 essential windows processes running currently, and stripped them out one by one hoping that one of them was the culprit.
There are no newer bios/motherboard updates currently.
There are no processes currently running that are taking up any significant resources.
    Any other ideas?

  • I need help with Photoshop CS4 reactivation issue

It may be more than just an activation issue.  CS4 has always worked beautifully on my iMac until yesterday when it failed to launch.  I tried everything and finally deactivated it, reinstalled it and it still won't launch.  I do not have Photoshop CS4 on any other computer.  I've been all over the web and ran into many people with the same problem.  Adobe won't help resolve CS4 issues so I'm stuck.  HELP!!

Does launching it give you an error code?
Try the procedures in this help document.

  • InDesign CS4 and PhotoShop CS4 Integration issue.

When working in inDesign CS4 Mac, I often click on a image to edit it in photoshop CS4 via the edit button in the InDesign links pallet That brings up the file in PhotoShop so that I can make my adjustments. When trying to save the photo in Photoshop the file will note save.
I get the pop up message that the file is in use. So I have to close the InDesign file in order to save the photo, re open inDesign to re-link the image. Very frustrating when working with a customer.... Any one else having this issue? or am I just lucky.
mac pro 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 10 Gigs ram Running Mac OS X 10.5.6

This could be a Leopard thing as I don't have that problem using those apps in Tiger.
You may also need to use Diskwarrior to fix your directory.

  • Photoshop CS4 install issues

I have a computer I just rebuilt with a new board, processor and memory.  I installed a clean copy of Windows Vista Business on a freshly formatted 300 gig hardrive.  I previously had purchased a download copy of Photoshop CS4.  I downloaded my software and when it began to extract the files it went about a third of the way and then I got an error message.
"A problem occurred while extracting some files.  Check available space on your computer and the write privileges on the destination folder."
The drive has 252 GB free and I am in an Administrative account.  I have redownloaded the software.  Emptied my temp files and checked the disc for errors.  I am stumped.  The folder it is extracting to is on my Desktop.  Before attempting to extract for the 3rd time I deleted folder.  Anyone have any ideas.

But have you configured it appropriately? Extraction errors usually point to either to insufficient temporary space in your user temp directory or a missing component required by the installer, which could be a part of MSInstaller itself or an auxiliary component such as .NET runtimes or MSVC DLLs...

  • Photoshop CS4 Fullscreen Issues

    Photoshop CS4 11.0.1
    Windows 7 x32
    NVIDIA driver 258.96 [GEFORCE 8800GT]
Hello, since a few new versions of the nVidia Drivers I can't use OpenGL in Fullscreen. Because the menus aren't useable, hidden, and don't show up when I hit the button on my pen. The cursor say me anyway they are there, but I can't see and access them. It seems they lay behind the image.
Switching OpenGL of solve the problem, but I can't work without.
Configuring the Drivers or use nHancer don't solve it.
So, anyone know a tweak for it?

Well, you could uninstall your video drivers and drop back to an older version...  I've not gone looking on the nVidia site - do they provide older versions?  I know ATI does.
And there is the possibility of using Photoshop windowed.  That's how I always use it (but to be fair I have a lot of screen space).
It's sad how the video card makers care 99.44% about video games and give serious computer users so little attention.  Sigh.

  • Upgrade to CS5 from CS4 Performance issues

This was originally posted in the Creative Suites section.  Bob Levine suggested I try a specific program forum to get better attention.  It has been a present performance problem for me with Premier Pro and Photoshop so I shall try here.
I have been using CS4 for several months on a new i7 quad 64bit PC with 4 x 1TB HDs and 12GB RAM.  When I use Photoshop or P.Pro, the performance is fast for several operations but slows down as I progress to a snail pace.  At times, I have rebooted the PC to get up to speed again.  I do not know if this is a problem with the CS4 32 bit program working on a 64 bit machine, even with Photoshop.  Perhaps I am clicking too fast.  If I install the source file on a separate drive to the C drive and send the output file to a third drive, performance improves as expected.  Perhaps timing within/between drives and the 32 bit program may be a problem on a 64 bit PC.  I have ordered an upgrade to CS5 hoping that a 64 bit program will provide better performance on the 64 bit PC.  Naturally the PC performance is expected to be faster, but will the performance that slows down to a snail pace improve?

Thank you all for your information.
I am beginning to imagine that because of the increased speed in dealing with data, an i7 quad 64 bit PC has a challenging time to switch and route the stream of data to the various processing and temporary/permanent storage locations.  It could be that dealing with 32 bit data for the demands of video editing compounds the problem.  I may have one or several slower components in the new PC.  In anycase, I am hoping that dealing directly with 64 bits will improve the performance.  If this does not and without further suggestions from the forum, I will have the performance of the PC components thoroughly tested for compliance to the required speed specifications.

  • Photoshop CS4 setup issues..

I have windows Vista 32 bit, I doubled clicked on the startup, run as admin, and........nothing happens. What's going on?

    Unlock:
Right click on the .exe file or Icon that was down loaded. On the general tab, right below the advance button, sometimes the download will have a statement that the downloaded software was downloaded from another computer (something like that) and there is a button to click to unlock it. Click the button then click apply. Sometimes it is there and sometimes it is not. Just depends on the download.
    To shut off windows defender:
Go to control panel, control panel home view. Click on Security. Look for windows defender in the right pane and click on that. On the windows defender window look for tools (next to the question mark). Click on tools. Click on Options. Uncheck Auto scan my computer. Then uncheck Use real time protection. You can turn on defender back on with the alert icon in the tray next to your clock. I have had no issues using CS4 with defender on.
    Windows installer to auto:
Easy way is to go to the search pane and type in services. Click on services and click on continue when the window pops up. On the services window go down the list and look for Windows Installer. Under the startup type it should read manual. Right click on manual the look for properties then click on properties. Under the general tab, about mid section, look for startup type. Click on the down arrow and select automatic, then click apply. Look for service status and click on start. When I was done installing CS4 I went back and reverted back to manual.

  • Photoshop CS4 Install Issue (corrupt file)

As someone else below had this problem, and apparently solved it, I'm reposting here because I haven't solved it, and the issue doesn't seem to be going away like it did for them.
I purchased the CS4 PS upgrade from Adobe's site.  After downloading it (using the latest non-beta firefox) I double click the EXE file (of the two it downloads) and get an error stating "A problem occured when extracting some files. Check available space and write privledges"
My drive has over 300gb free space, and I'm running as admin.
I have tried disabling UAC and turning off my AV software to no avail, re-installing and redownloading both with no UAC/AV going.  The gentleman (kfallsbob) that had this problem solved it by repeatedly downloading the software until he got a good copy.  After this revelation was made, I downloaded the trial version of the latest winzip to get to the .Z7 file and see if it was valid.  It extracts part way and gives a data error, so it appears the file is corrupted or becomes corrupted during the DL process.
I have downloaded this 7 times so far.  I'm reaching the limit of my patience.
Does anyone have a solution for this?  I submitted a request for help through the website, but apparently the case has dissapeared.  I will try calling when I get home, but I often work late.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
    Thanks.
System:  Intel E6700 running vista ultimate 64 with 8gb ram

Looked through that, looks like it's for non Akamai (the DL manager) downloads since those bypass the whole internet cache and whatnot.  I tried digging up the FTP site, but looks like they host only their free apps there (go figure...) I'm hoping that they have some alternate DL method I can get to, but still haven't heard from them.  Unfortunately phone support is only around until 5pm pacific time and strangely enough, I work until 5pm pacific time...  I would love to see a company that has people around later than normal work hours for support!
    WHEEEEE!
    Edit:
Given that the regular install process and winzip both choke at about 4% through the extraction process, I'm going to call that sufficient as far as unzipping the compressed file goes.

  • Photoshop CS4 Performance

Ok, first off, I am new to this forum. Second, I will admit it, I did not save the URL that I am about to as for, my bad. I was on another forum and there was a URL that was shared and I looked at that was very good. It was a webinar session where the gentleman really went into details of how to build a system for CS4. It covered CPU, Memory, hard drive, scratch desk for both PC and MAC. At the end it showed an example of each as far as how to setup. It was done in a PDF version if I recall and possibly with WebEx or something similar. Does anyone have this URL for this? BTW: it is not the help files within Photoshop because he starts of saying this was a long time coming and he always has wanted to do a session like this.
    Thanks,
    Tim

  • Photoshop cs4 printing issue on HP 7680

Suddenly, my HP OfficeJet 7680 printing from PS CS4 (Vista) - prints only a portion of the photo. For instance, an 8.5 x 11 photo starts out fine, then starts losing pixels as the page progresses. The photo's pixels also shift as it goes.
Generic printing through Windows' photo printers works fine.
    any thoughts? thanks!!
    Dana

Believe it or not you might need to reinstall.
The HP drivers that were installed on my MacBook were the PowerPC version (as opposed to the Intel version) and I had problems. The issue was solved by re-installing the OS which in turn re-installed the print drivers.
I would try any other advice first, though. A reinstall is a pretty major solution to what could be a minor problem.

  • CS4 performance issues

XP, 4GB RAM with 3BG switch, nVidia 9600GT 512 vRAM.
CS4 keeps sucking up RAM (sometimes to 2GB), shows bad lag time, the OpenGL crashes, and my workflow comes to a stand still.
I just put that video card in as an upgrade from a 7300 LE, as the 9600GT was on the list of Adobe tested cards.
    What's going on here?
    Edit: also running LR 2.2.

Harold - Adobe tested with the latest drivers at the time we were testing. We found bugs in the drivers, and the GPU makers promised to fix those bugs. Some were fixed before we shipped, but not all. But they are still working on some of them (and finding more) because different configuration issues were missed (multiple monitors, CPU and firmware dependencies, external utilities interferring, etc.) in their fixes or their testing. Even Adobe couldn't test all the factors involved because Adobe has no visibility into the drivers to know what factors MIGHT be involved. Adobe tried to get as broad a coverage as possible, but, well, we couldn't cover it all.
People are advised to update their drivers because many still have not done that, and because the drivers are still being updated to fix many of the bugs reported here.
People are advised to contact the video card makers because some of the bugs are still not fixed, and only the authors of the driver software know what details might be important (or missing) to figure out the cause and fix the bugs in the driver software. Adobe could report the problem to the GPU makers -- but we can't even reproduce some of these problems because we don't know all the factors involved (and thus we'd never be able to help isolate the problem, or tell if it was fixed). It is far more useful for the device driver authors to contact the customer directly and find out the exact configuration causing the problem.

  • Photoshop CS4: multiple issues ... unexpectedly quits, or quits with an error msg

Most often -- when I try to open an existing file or create a new one -- the application will shut down unexpectedly and without warning.
But I also experience application errors:  'Instruction at "0x1a3c4b6b" referenced at memory "0x00000028" Memory could not be read.
Has anyone experienced (and more importantly, SOLVED) this problem?

Have you updated to Photoshop 11.0.1?
Have you checked for new video drivers?
There are lots of other questions too.
They are all under that link at the top of the forum: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/433020?tstart=0

  • Photoshop CS4 Install issues - Serial # not accepted

I have just spent THE most frustrating 3 hours trying to deal with Adobe Support.
    -Upgarded my Hard Drive
    -Tried to reinstall PS CS4
-recieved error message on first screen saying that I had the wrong number
-Called Support, spoke to a lady I could barely understand (thick East Indian accent) and she couldn't help me directly bc of my outdated SW and referred me to the Forums
-poured over forums for almost 2 hours, found the same problem and the solution was "Call them back and insist on a supervisor who can at that point give you and override" ARRRG!
-called back, sw gentleman with accent worse than the first rep and explain all of the above
-Was told repeatedly that my Serial number does not resemble a current number
-Asked repeatedly to speak to a Super
-Rep kept putting me on hold and then returning with the same damn questions!!!!
-I finally excused myself and hung up.
CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP ME OUT HERE?
    Sam

I have been exactly where you are recently. The techs couldn't help but I finally found a solution. I copied the CD onto my hard drive and ran the install from there. My serial number was accepted and CS4 is running just fine. I don't know if it will work for you but could be worth a try.
