Photoshop CS4 .psd Win Explorer THUMBNAILS
How? its certainly not an option to be enabled in the installer or anywhere else for that matter....
And why are Adobe trying to force users to use that bloated and useless bridge ****? by not implementing default windows support for thumbnail generation of .psd files?
And if you haven't guessed I don't like bridge and if it were possible to not have it on my system I would surely make sure it never touched my pc.. so much for Adobe's useless installer forcing this onto customers.
You are showing your attitude again!
None of us
users
like the lack of Explorer thumbnails but it is the result of an unresolved incompatibility between Adobe and Microsoft since Version 7.
We
users can't do anything about it, except use un-approved workarounds which may result in catastrophic loss of data.
If you are unhappy, write to Adobe not us!

Why Does Premiere Pro CS4 Import Only 10 Seconds Of Layered Photoshop CS4 .psd??
Why Does Premiere Pro CS4 Import Only 10 Seconds Of Layered Photoshop CS4 .psd??
I have a 24 second clip I layered in Ps and when I import the psd into Pr THE SEQUENCE IS ALWAYS ONLY 10 SECONDS!
How can I change this? Why does this happen? I really need to know as soon as possible. I have a video project due this Wednesday (granted it's for an AV class where I'm just learning Pr. But I can learn VERY FAST!)
Thanks for your help.
--OSXniCKelsJust in case I wasn't clear in my last line "just Click-drag on the Tail of your .PSD to set the desired Duration," once you have Imported your .PSD (as Footage), just drag it to the Timeline, Click-drag on the right-hand margin (the Tail) and stretch out its Duration, as is required.
Now, if you Imported as a Sequence, open that Sequence's Timeline, and do the same.
I normally will set my Edit>Preferences>Still Duration to about what I think will be applicable, do my Import, and then with the Info Panel handy, just alter the Duration to suit.
Good luck,
Hunt

Photoshop CS4 Extended Win XP x64 Help files (Documentation) Prob
Hi
I have just updated to CS4 extended.
Help>Photoshop Help [F1]
Launches the default browser taking me to
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Photoshop/11.0/search.html?AH_ION=true
with a link to http://community.adobe.com/help
Why no application documentation?
How can I install it?
Thanks in advance
davidSorry I was obviously not clear-- I found the connections tab but it has no option to keep offline.
There are two options > Kuler
> Connections
The latter opens a connections tab which enables one to enter an email address and password.
When login is activated F1 takes me to :
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Photoshop/11.0/search.html?AH_ION=true
which is a page with a single link:
http://community.adobe.com/help
which when clicked upon takes me to:
http://community.adobe.com/help/?l=acrobat_product_adobelr
It does not appear to take me to the page you guys suggest.
To digress a little>>>>
I have two User IDs with adobe. One was originally with macromedia and the user ID is an email address. My original Adobe ID (since 1999) is the other. That ID is NOT an email address but a simple string. The log in refuses to accept a login ID that is not an email address.!!! All my adobe products are to be found under that ID!

Photoshop CS4 psd conversion to jpg
This is an inconsistent problem but one I havent been able to figure out. I resize a photo for web display, image size says 892k for the psd file after resizing. I do a save as jpg and the jpg size is 1.7 MB. at about 80%, it gets bigger? This does not happen with every file but does with the same psd files consistently. I can save the file as a bmp then use on external program to save as a jpg, and the file size is as I would expect, around 200k.
The strange part is I can open that same bmp file in Photoshop and try and save as a jpg and it doubles in size just like it did when save when it was a psd. Any ideas.
Thx!Save for web worked as expected so that will be my method from now on. This problem is very strange as my work flow is exactly the same when saving (save as) for all jpg files. Most files save as one would expect, but the odd file has the issue. It has to be something additional in the file, but I have no idea what. I always flatten them before saving as jpg and the example I gave, the flattened resized psd file was 892k, but when doing a save as jpeg with 80% compression, it grows to 1.7 MB when it normally would be around the 200-300k range. I'm thinking it has to be a bug. The reason I never used save for web is it strips out my exif copyright information

Photoshop CS4, Win XP Pro, NVidia 9800GT
Be forewarned!!!
If you have the above stated system you will have a problem from day one with the installation. After trouble shooting with Adobe using their infernal email system the end result is that Adobe's install routine for Photoshop is corrupted.
IF at a view scale of 100% of a graphic, say 20meg or so, you have slow response using the Marquee tool AND you use or do not use the OpenGL settings (it really does not matter) it is because of a bad install of PS CS4.
You will know this is occurring if you have Norton Systemworks' WinDoctor (or some other program) and it reports problems with various Adobe installed programs. AND these problems are not repairable by your utility.
The reported files that are missing are msvcr80.dll, msvcp80.dll, mfc80u.dll, and one other. They were utilized in CS2 and in CS4. And if you think you can just copy them over this does not work. The CS4 install utilizes newer versions of these files specifically written by them. Older Adobe versions do not repair the problem nor versions from other vendors.
Adobe's Expert Support Staff reported the following to fix the problem.
1. Backup my 500gig hard drive to an online paid backup site.
2. Format the hard drive. (I did this just before I installed CS4 as part of my standard install routine).
3. Install Win XP Pro and all the Service Packs and everything else for Windows.
4. Install Photoshop 6 and migrate up through the version of Creative Suite.
5. Install the other 70 or so programs on my main system. And of course five of them are no longer supported by the vendors so I would have to pay for their Tech Support once again since it has been 30 days. Damn Copyright Issues!
6. After the 2 to 3 days of backing up to the Internet (or purchasing another larger drive, AND spending the week to install all the software packages, proceed to the next step.
7. Test the install to see if it fixed the Photoshop CS4 problem with the marquee tool.
All because of a poor install routine. You may notice this problem also if you double click on a PSD file, or other graphic file, and nothing happens or an older install of Photoshop starts. This was the clue as to what the initial problem was the bad install routine.
And I did not even go into the software bugs, reported to and known by Adobe, for Dreamweaver I discovered. They will fix them when they release Creative Suite 5(possibly) after I pay for the upgrade! NEVER!!!

How to enable Windows Explorer Thumbnail Viewer to display PSD files?
Hi,
I am using Adobe Photoshop Extended CS5 (64-Bit) on Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate (64-Bit).
When using Windows Explorer to browse through file folders, I notice that the Photoshop files (.psd) do not display a thumbnail preview, like other graphic files do. How can I enable the Windows Explorer Thumbnail Viewer to display PSD files?
Thanks for your help,
The MiJiTAdobe software doesn't provide a 64 bit codec and as far as I know there is no freeware to do it on x64 systems.
There are two pay-for applications that I know of: Mystic Thumbs and Ardfry's PSD codec

Photoshop CS4 Crashes When Deleting In Explorer Window
I'm running Windows 7 with gigs of hard drive space and 9 gigs of fast RAM. Whenever I open a file in Photoshop CS4 Extended (v.11.0.1) the "Open" file explorer window pops up and I then navigate to any image folder. If I'm in this window and see any file I don't need any longer and try to delete it PS crashes. I get the "Photoshop no longer responding" error and it shuts down. Other times it happens while I'm working on a file, sometimes when applying filters. The following error always shows up in the Event Viewer:
Faulting application name: Photoshop.exe, version: 11.0.1.0, time stamp: 0x499bf9b5
Faulting module name: QTCF.dll_unloaded, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x4aa21f2c
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x67cec11b
Faulting process id: 0x1fec
Faulting application start time: 0x01ca793f11f8305d
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Photoshop.exe
Faulting module path: QTCF.dll
Report Id: 92ee343e-e532-11de-8888-0024e81c8cb0
I've looked everywhere for an answer and Google doesn't have anything. I did try the following as suggested on other forums for similar crashes:
Repaired/replaced the QTCF.dll file (Apple QuickTime DLL)
Ensured fonts aren't corrupt
Ran diagnostics on RAM, HD and system incl. registry - All OK
Ensured scratch disks were local and correct
Deleted PST temp files
Tried starting PS without preferences
Reduced/Increased memory allocation
Installed latest video drivers from ATI
Reinstalled PS CS4
Any idea what is going on? This is seriously affected my workflow and I can't seem to find anyone with a similar issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
JimAccording to a few google searches the dll has to do with either itunes or quick time. The quick time fix was to go to control panel, programs, click on quick time then repair. If you have itunes install do the same but there might not be a repair option when you highlite.
Go to the adobe website to see if there is a quick time viewer for Windows 7 64 bit.
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
I don't have itunes or Quicktime installed on either computer. I can't remember if the CS4 Extended disk install quicktime. All I installed off the Disk was CS4 Extended and Bridge. -
My questions are: Does the PSD file have the printer information encoded?
Also why has this just started to show up? My wife has work successfully under the same conditions, files moved and printed on different printers, with no problems in the past.
I (we) have been struggling with a recent problem trying to print PSD files from Photoshop CS4. (Vista 32 bit, Epson 3880 networked) When trying to print certain, but not all, PSD files I get the message: "Before you can perform printer-related tasks such as page setup or printing a document, you need to install a printer." I have been in contact with Adobe support about the issue but with little in the way of positive results. I was referred to a kb link: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/409/kb409119.html Tried all that to no avail. (The first suggestion is absurd to the point of making me wonder what process is used to construct the kbs. You cannot open the print menu when you get this message so....?)
Other solutions are not acceptable for the work my wife is doing, editing high quality photographs for an exhibition with test prints and so on. We are under intense time pressue with four shows coming up in a very short time. The final solution offered is that CS5 has solved all of this. Hum? interesting. No comment except new program, new problems so not a real solution for us.
In searching the web about this problem I have come across many other people with the same problem working from different platforms and even different Adobe products. I noticed that the MAC OS seemed to cause the same problem and that there was a problem with Reader and Acrobat. In every case the problem is never solved by Adobe or anyone else and users find some "workaround". I too have found what we hope is a workaround in our contiued travels on the blogosphere, on flickr http://www.flickr.com/groups/wellington/discuss/72157621548183001/ as "...a nasty, nasty solution" but we skipped the flatten part and the GIMP part and resave the PSD under a different name.
Adobe does seem supportive but not that interested (CS4 right) but I would like to find a real solution and I think many people would benefit from it.
Anyway what I have found is that the PSD files that will not print have been printed on another printer at some time in the past. In my case the Printer was an Epson Artisan A50. The printer we are using now is the Epson Stylus Pro 3880. Even when trying to print wirelessly to the 3880 from the laptop (Was Vista, now Windows 7) that was used to edit and print with the A50, (USB connection) we saw the same error. So it seems that the printer information is somehow embedded in the PSD file (also mentioned in a Blog) and is keeping PS from seeing the printer because the same printer is not there.
Has anybody already found the fix?
I know this is a long post but I have been working on this problem and have heard all of the pat and frankly useless answers and workarounds. Can we find a solution and fix the problem?Just a few examples, since you ask:

That attitude, Dr. Craig. Plus the verbosity you unconscionably inflicted on your fellow forum users.

Why can't I view metadata added in Photoshop CS4 in Windows XP's explorer?
I'm using Photoshop CS4 on Windows XP. I've been editing the Title and Description fields in Photoshop (and yes, I've been saving things). When I try to view the metadata in Photoshop at a later point I can see everything just fine. When I try to view the metadata by going in to windows explorer and looking at the properties, those fields just show up as blank. This may be a silly question (I'm a bit of a noob), but what am I doing wrong?
I believe Mylenium is referring to this: Start Bridge, then Edit - Preferences - Metadata.
I don't know what settings to tweak to accomplish what you want, though.

Has anybody already found the fix?
I know this is a long post but I have been working on this problem and have heard all of the pat and frankly useless answers and workarounds. Can we find a solution and fix the problem?Tech support put me on hold for about 30 minutes to 'look up my serial number'. When he came back he started saying he did find my serial nu..... and he hung up. I had already given him my callback number. Yet he never called me back when we were 'disconnected'. There is no excuse for him not calling me back. I have no reason to believe this was anything other than intentional avoidance of the problem. Before he started looking up my serial number, he told me that Photoshop didn't support working with files on a network drive (???). He also told me that even if it was found to be an actual defect in the product, I still owed the $39. The $39 was "not for finding the defect... it was for the technician's time.... (???) Where do they find these people to answer the phones?
Sorry about the venting... I'm just losing money by the day, and I get to pay for these kinds of moronic statements.
Here's the situation, yet one more time.....
1) I complete a PSD file and save it
2) I print it on one of the printers accessible by that machine
3) I then try to close the PSD, but it says the 'file has changed' The ONLY thing that has changed is that I PRINTED it. So you can't tell me PS is not saving at least something about the printing task in the file
4) If I say 'no' to the save-after-print question, I can go to another computer, open the same file and print with no problem
5) If I say 'yes' to the save-after-print question, and I go to another computer and try to print the file, I get the "In order to perform printing tasks you must define a printer" message
6) This scenario applies to any machine. Once I hit 'save' after printing, that PSD can now never be printed on any other machine other than that one.
7) And this is a user problem (???)
Somebody please tell me:
1) why PS marks a file 'changed' and requires saving after doing nothing other than printing it if it is not saving printer history/setup in the file?
2) Why I can print the PSD from any computer with PS installed as long as I don't do a save after printing from one, but as soon as I do a save after print, the file is basically locked permanently to that one machine forever?
Right... and they want a minimum of $39 to tell me a) this is a user problem, b) Photoshop doesn't support files on a shared network drive; c) "...NO.... we don't save printer information in the file, and d) get hung up on with no callback.
I have 40 years of experience in software architecture and development. I know enough to know a little bit about how these things work. And I also have been around long enough to recognize intentional denial of a product defect by the support team. -
Installation and compatibility issues with photoshop CS4 - Win 8
I recently purchased a new computer with Windows 8. I am experiencing issues when attempting to install the downloaded and upgrade copy of photoshop CS4. Initially unpacking the software presented issues, but I believe they've been resolved - specifically I had to change the folder attribute from read only while unpacking, of course the tedium arose when this endeavor didn't seem to apply the new attributes to all subfolders and files. I percivered though by repeating it for each folder throughout. When I select the icon for the setup.exe file though the process ends as quickly as it began. I considered that it my have been seeking the previous version (in my case photoshop elements) so I sought to install it first, but as you may have guessed the old software is experiencing it's own compatibility issues. Does anyone know if photoshop CS4 will even work in Windows 8, and I hope someone will have already cleared this hurdle and can give me direction - please, I really am hoping for a life preserver here!
Thankyou, Chris
PS I did attempt to open one of the attached adobe reader files that came with the downloaded copy, but unfortunately they won't open prior to installation given they show the file size 0kb. I don't know if these files are simply acting as place holders for the cab files - or whether there remains an issue while unpacking the files to begin with.If the executable doesn't even run, it's either being shut down by some security stuff on your system or can't find a component. Impossible to tell. whiel there may be compatibility issues, on a more general level CS4 should run on Win 8...

Photoshop CS4 on Mac OS X Yosemite keeps crashing when saving as PSD
Please help!! I have a major project due involving hundreds of photos that require editing, and I cannot save an edited photo using CS4 as a PSD file - just crashes, closes and pops up a crash report. I am desperate! I have a new Macbook Pro and am using OS X Yosemite 10.10. I can save a simple jpeg with no editing, but my edits require masks and layers and so have to save as PSD. I really dont know what troubleshooting to do. I have plenty of storage - about 85GB free. Please help!!

Photoshop CS4 11.0.1 crash upon save, leaves small sized corrupt PSD file
Hi!
I've just updated our retouchers Photoshop CS4 to 11.0.1 but one of the issues we had with 11.0.0 remains. The problem doesn't happen that often, but since the result is an unusable .PSD file it's pretty nasty...
Sometimes when saving Photoshop crashes and the .PSD that was to be saved becomes a small (68 KB in the last example) and unusable.
The hardware/software we have:
Mac Pro 2.66 GHz (some with 5 GB RAM and some with 9 GB RAM)
Mac OS X 10.5.6
Photoshop CS4 Standard (updated to 11.0.1)
People work on server volumes shared via AFP. I've heard saving over the network isn't supported, but there's no other way, plus this issue never happened in CS3 so...
Any ideas on what can be done?

2 MultiProcessor Support 0x1This is the boilerplate text I use in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that
normally, it does work
, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please
cease and desist immediately
in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files.
Working across a network is not supported.
See:
http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/322391.html
Copy the
CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work. It should.
Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does
not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost. -
Why can't I see the layers of cs4 .psd files passed to me in photoshop elements 11?
why can't I see the layers from cs4 .psd files passed to me in photoshop elements 11?
You should be able to see normal layers, but PSE doesn't understand layer groups/sets or comp layers. The inexpensive add-on elements+ from simplephotoshop.com will let you expand layer groups. (If you also have Premiere Elements installed you should be able to see layer groups in PSE without adding anything.)

Unexpected end of file occurred while opening Photoshop CC psd in Photoshop Cs4
Can anyone help me? I'm using Photoshop CC 2014 on Windows 7 at home and Photoshop CS4 at school. I get an Unexpected end of file occurred when I try to open my assignements at school.
How can this be fixed?
Thank you!
SasHi Curt...I'm new here, so I'll get the hang of it. Thank you for your quick response. I'm using the Mac OS X version 10.6.8 I'm a digital artist and was working on a psd file. I use a wacom tablet and all of a sudden everything stopped responding. I had to force quit Photoshop and open again. That's when the window telling me an unexpected end-of-file was encountered. So much work has gone into this piece of artwork, so needless to say, I'm beyond frustrated. I had saved this work along the way just so I wouldn't lose it, but now this unexpected twist. I will try what you suggested to see if it will help.
Again THANK YOU!
Katy

Replace iPhoto '11 with '09?
