Photoshop cs4 serial nr question

Hi,
i got adobe photoshop cs4 extended as a trial on my pc.
recently was bought adobe photoshop cs4 (not extended), so should i uninstall extended version and install photoshop from new disc or not?
i asked because when i entered code from the disc i got red cross in the end instead of green tick.
Thanks in advance,
Alex

The procedure I mentioned in my initial post was EXACTLY the info I received from Adobe support. When I downloaded the Extended version the notes seemed to imply (if not directly said) that by purchasing and entering a S/N for a lesser version e.g. the basic version then some features available in Extended would not be available. Like you, having twice entered the S/N and having twice received that red cross I telephoned support. They told me to uninstall Extended (the installers for both apps are different) and do a clean install from the basic version on DVD which I had purchased via Amazon. I did exactly this and everything went without a hitch. If you are still having trouble it might be worth trying again to uninstall Extended but prior to installing from the DVD run a registry cleaner such as CCleaner (free) to rid your computer of any crap left over from Extended.
I must admit to having serious concerns with regards to Adobe. They've had a good few years to practice this, and are leaders in the market but still don't appear to get the simplest of things sorted out. Do departments actually talk to one another I wonder. :-(

Photoshop CS4 Serial number flagged as invalid when I know it's OK. I have been transferring my software to Windows7 from XP by running two operating systems on separate volumes so I can keep working while dealing with compatibility problems. I have my original CD with serial number that I have been using for years. I have wasted a lot of time on this but I am now at the stage where I have deactivated and uninstalled PS from XP, reinstalled from download from Adobe on Win7. When I install I'm asked for the serial number which is accepted OK. When I try to run PS I'm again asked for s/n but this time it's flagged as Invalid. I have had to resort to running as 30 day trial while I trying to find a solution. I'm now desperate, Help Please!

Thanks for that. Yes, I had seen that before and tried it. It made no difference unfortunately.
BUT the good news is, I have tried again this new day and NOW it goes through. Go figure!
Thanks to everyone in this Discussion for your suggestions.
    Problem somehow resolved itself?!

  • Finding the photoshop cs4 serial number

So, I'm wanting to put Adobe Photoshop CS4 on my new computer but can't find the e-mail with the serial number in it. I've used countless softwares but no serial found works.
The question now is: How do I find the serial?

If you bought it as a download from Adobe, click the red logo at the top of this page, then the My Adobe link, and finally the My Products link.  You can retrieve your serial number from Adobe's web pages.

  • Photoshop CS4 Experience, Problems & Questions

    Hi all,
i just installed my Production Suite Premium on the following System (fresh install, clean System, no other versions of Photoshop):
    Intel E8500 Dualcore
    Nvidia Geforce 9800 GX2 (Driver Version 178.24)
    3 GB RAM
    Windows XP Professionel SP3
Photoshop has its own Scratchdisk assigned with at least 50 GB free Space.
I know that the 9800 GX2 is considered to be a "Gaming-Card" but as a freelance artist i work for the game-industry on many occasions and I need a decent gaming hardware to test what I am working on. As far as I know, the card meets all requirements for CS4 and Nvidia tells me, that their GPU's are perfect for CS4. (wasn't a problem with any version before, I use Photoshop AND Nvidia-Cards since Photoshop 4)
Here are the things that bug me:
    - Photoshop disables the OpenGL Features on random occasions, stating, that it has encountered a problem. This happens either in Two GPU-Mode or One-GPU-Mode.
There's no obvious reason for any errormessage, because IF Open GL is activated it seems to work pretty good, zooming and rotating works quite well and fast. I noticed, that the problem happens either after saving my file or when i open photoshop.
    - Photoshop crashed on several occasions mostly concerning heavy transforming of multiple layers. It simply didn't respond anymore in the midst of the transormation-process.
My guess is, that this is also linked to the GPU/Driver. System-Memory is checked, GPU works like a charm in all other applications. CS3 has not once crashed in one year, so i guess it has to do with the changes made in CS4.
Strange thing is, that even with open GL deactivated, the above written problems occur. I would have thought, that with OpenGL dectivated, Photoshop would somehow become kind of CS3 again, but it seems, there had been to much changes to simply disconnect photoshop from it's new OpenGL interface.
Apart from these two Problems, Photoshop CS4 is doing ok. It feels kind of sluggish compared to older versions, but that might also change with some new drivers.
Sad thing is, that the rotate canvas feature and the extended moverange for images, the main reasons why i upgraded to CS4, are only working with
OpenGL activated. I really hope there will be a fix in the near future.
There are other questions concerning PS CS4's usability:
    - The Scale-Brush Feature uses alt + right mouse buttons, what seems kind of strange when using a stylus (Even more when using a stylus without buttons like the wacom layout-marker).
I would prefer another combination of keyboard shortcuts plus stylus movement ctrl + alt for example. so far i have not found a way to remap the keys. Am i missing something? Or is this impossible?
    - Is there a way to get window behavior back the way it was in CS3? The new way of handling windows is ok, but i liked the old one better. If i disable "floating windows docking" there's no way to maximize a window INSIDE the photoshop workspace. The maximize button on top of every window is right now completely useless because it maximizes the window AND gets rid of all the menus and palettes. I don't see why i want to do that.
That's it. I hope this is useful either for the guys at adobe or for other users. Every new Photoshop-Version has had its problems, i hope that these will just be dealt with like the ones before.
    All the best,
    Pickman

Photoshop CS4 does cause crashes. I can vouch for that too. When it happens, the first instinct is almost always to assume that something is wrong with the computer and start from there. Comments to this effect are prominent in many threads. It is also Adobe's prevalent approach. So people experiencing these problems will tend not to post on these forums. Statements like 'because there are only a few posts, a significant number of people are not experiencing [these] problems' are therefore unfounded. There simply has not been time yet for people to resolve potential hardware/system problems.
In my case, I started experiencing unexplained crashed with CS3 in July (see below) but it was only when Adobe admitted that they could be partly to blame that I posted my experiences (elsewhere) on this forum.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, I have installed Photoshop CS4 on a newly reformatted HDD containing a fresh clean installation of Windows XP/SP3, fully patched, with everything working hunky dory, and no legacy installations of Photoshop or other CS software to worry about. All the same PS CS4 keeps crashing. The symptoms are unexplained total freeze ups occurring at random. I may get several hours use, sometimes a lot less, before I am forced to reboot and start all over again. Certainly the ability to do any useful work is severely compromised, and yes, the first inclination is to blame the hardware or system installation.
The thing is I had been chasing a similar, probably related, problem with CS3 (possibly caused by cloning my system drive, see http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b6bd8d/ ) while Photoshop was still activated, so I have had several months head start over anyone who may now be experiencing similar problems with CS4. As a result, Dell, whose support has been great throughout, have replaced just about every component under the hood of my PC, certainly everything that could be causing a problem. (GPU, CPU, memory, MB, PSU, disk controller, disk cables...). As a result, I am running a virtually brand new computer. Hardware and system problems have been all but eliminated. I have all the latest drivers for everything. It is virtually a brand new computer!
Yet PS/CS4 keeps crashing for no reason that can be established. Adobe have given me lots of homework to do to try to find out what affects it or remedies there are. It is all very tedious, but so far, nothing...
I am coming to the conclusion that there must be something intrinsically wrong with PS/CS4 that makes it incompatible with some systems and software installations, but not necessarily because of any fault with the latter. I have to say that, after initially trying to push me away, Adobe are being very helpful and clearly want (need?) to get to the bottom of this. The trouble is that when the system locks up, it is completely and utterly paralysed, so any diagnostic and error reporting systems are inoperative. This suggests something beneath or beyond Windows, and, if it is not hardware, this points the finger of blame squarely at the activation software, which uses rootkit technology. (Would this be the same on a Mac, I wonder?)
For the record, my system is a Dell Precision 370 desktop with Dell/Phoenix BIOS A08, 3.2GHz Pentium 4 CPU, Intel 925X chipset, 2MB ECC SDRAM, Nvidia Quadro FX3450 graphics, 2x Seagate 146MB Cheetah 5.5k disks (SCSI) in non-RAID configuration. From the limited experience I have had, it seems perfectly capable of running the software (apart from when it crashes, of course.)

  • Photoshop CS4 Serial Truncated

Please help. I have Photoshop CS4 extended which was installed as part of Design Premium CS4. I wish to delete it off one machine and install it on a new machine and can only find a 20 digit serial number in Photoshop>Help>System Info. I have no boxes or records to refer to now and am hoping there is a way to do this. Thank you for your help.

I am sure that you have twigged I am a PC user not a Mac user. I did a little more investigation and found reference to a bit of software for the Mac called "Jellybean Key Finder". I have absolutely no idea if it works as I cant try it but it might be worth a look.

  • Photoshop CS4 Extended quick question

    Hello,
My question is simple so I'll keep it brief. I'm able to buy Photoshop CS4 Extended via the University I go to, but I would only use the photography features. Does Photoshop CS4 extended work the same way Photoshop CS4 does in that regard, but with just more advanced features for video etc?
In other words, will Photoshop CS4 extended work the same was as Photoshop CS4 would with my photos?

  • Photoshop CS4 serial not working for 64 bit

Ok heres the story, ive been using my copy for about 8 months straight without any problems, yesterday I start up photoshop as I do every day and BLAM, it tells me the serial Ive been using is no longer valid.
When i try to re enter the serial it gives me a big fat red cross.
The weird thing is that the 32bit version seems to work just fine.
I already tried re installing the program, used the CS4 cleaning utility and whatnot, but still the same problem, 64 bit asks for serial, 32bit works, I have 8 gigs of ram in my rig and hate to let it all go to waste by using the 32 bit, so if anyone has any clue about my problem, please share.
    Cheers

Sounds like a specific part of the licensing service does not launch. Have you checked your event viewer and your Services panel?

  • Photoshop CS4 Scratch Disk question

i've asked questions about this topic before, but did not quiet get the answer i was looking for.
First: How much hard drive space should be allocated to photoshop? We are working with files at times exceeding 6GB. We have 32GB of RAM and a few hard drives, internal and external.
Second: the size of my Documents folder is no more than 250gb and the capacity of the system hard drive is 500. What else could possibly take up so much room? the programs take up about 50gb so im left with 200 missing GB?
    Thank you for your attention.

Turn off system restore or at least manually delete older restore points and reduce the number of states to store. Windows will create restore points after every install and also in regular intervals without you doing anything. Even if they are incremental, they are taking up oodles of space. The hibernation cache is usually the exact size of your system directory + swap file + RAM amount, so if you have a lot of RAM and a large swap file, it wil lbe pretty large, too. It can however be eliminated by simply turning off the hibernation in the energy management options. For further cleanup, use Windows' own Disk Cleanup Utility or tools like CCleaner.

  • Quick "Photoshop CS4 Student Edition" Question

How many times am I able to download the CS4 Student Edition? If I can recall, I was able to download my old CS3 version twice, but I am having difficulty locating where to find this particular information. Thanks for the response. Much appreciated!
    Jenna

As far as I know, the Student Editions range is no different from any other Adobe downloadable product. In their Online Order FAQ, they write:
"How long will my download be available?
You may return to your Online Store account to resume a download, or re-download your products for 3 years after the day of purchase. If for some reason you are unable to access your account or are unable to find your previously purchased downloads, please contact customer service. Adobe reserves the right to change this policy at any time with or without notice."
    (Taken from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/167/tn_16719.html#Completed_download )
That seems to indicate that you're not limited to a number of downloads, but a time in which to download. If you click on the 'Your Account' link at the top of the Adobe site, and then on the 'View Order History' link, you should have a 'Your Downloads' tab that will make all your purchases available to download.
You may find that this varies slightly with volume licensing however. I'm assuming you mean a Student Editions individual purchase, but if you're buying through your university for example, you should check with them. If you're unsure of what kinds of student editions are available, check out this article explaining the different Adobe Photoshop Student editions, http://www.easyelements.com/adobe-photoshop-student.html .

  • Photoshop CS4 Extended Trial question?

If I download the trial of PS CS4 Extended and then later purchase the full version can I use the key from the full version to activate the trial?

In theory yes but, bearing mind all the problems being reported here, I wouldn't do it.

  • Cross Platform from Photoshop CS4 to Photoshop CC offer

Is it possible to use an existing Photoshop CS4 serial number (Windows Platform) to take advantage of the Photographers offer currently available AND at the same time move to Mac software.  I have an old verson of photoshop but since then I have moved across to using Mac computers.

    What Mylenium said.
The Windows only or Mac only serial number distinction is a thing of the past with Cloud software.
Cloud apps are activated via your Adobe ID (no serial number required) so as a Cloud member, all your software can be installed and used on Mac/Mac or Mac/Win or Win/Win at any time.

  • Photoshop CS4 - Adobe chat customer support can't remove serial number

I purchased a USED copy of Photoshop CS4 via Ebay. When I received the package and DVD I was supicious of the authenticiaty. I chatted with Adobe Customer support about the serial number validity against my Adobe ID. They said the serial number is "valid". I know that serial numbers can be "faked" and I don't want to install malware on my computer. I never installed the software or activated it.
I would like to have the serial number removed from my Adobe ID account so I can return it to the seller without issues. Chat says they can't remove a serial number.
Question - who can, if Adobe can't. I need to make sure this isn't linked to me.
    Harley

To add to the discussion, regarding why I don't want to install:
    1) The seller agreed to provide an Adobe Transfer of License form (prior to my purchase) and he's not provided the form and will not.
    2) The package arrived from an overseas location which was not on the original sale.
    3) The box packaging has some suspicious markings (per Adobe's website link on How to spot counterfeit Photoshop CS4 product) - the box labeling has Adobe Genuine printed in Gold, the description has IE and not UE in the title, it is listed as Made in Singapore, the DVD has the serial number taped to the back of the case
So even though the serial number checked with Adobe, I'm not interested in risking my system security with an unregistered product from an overseas seller. The seller wants it returned and will refund me. And I don't want the software registered to My Adobe ID.
Can someone at Adobe help delink this serial number to my account?

I have to install Photoshop CS4 extended on a new computer from a disk because my old computer had a hard drive crash.  There is no serial number on the back of the case.  How can I obtain a usable serial number?

    Find your serial number quickly
You can activate software without following up and registering it... at least that was the case in the past.  The serial number is normally located on the disc case or a box inside the main box.  If you did not purchase the disc from Adobe then it is possible you would have dealt with a redemption code, in which case it would have been up to you to keep a record of the serial number, especially if you did not follow up and register the software.

  • I have Creative Suite 3 Master Collection. Am trying to install Photoshop CS4 upgrade. It will not accept any of the serial numbers from my Creative Suite 3 Master Collection. The upgrade is for Photoshop CS 4 only

I am ask for serial number of Photoshop CW, CS2, & CS3 I put in the serial number from my Creative Suite 3 Master Collection. None of which are accepted. What do I need to do to accomplish upgrade?

When you purchase a Creative Suite collection, you can't run an upgrade on an individual product within the Suite. You have to upgrade the entire collection.
You could purchase a copy of Photoshop CS6, or a subscription to Photoshop which can be as little as $9.99 with the Photography plan to the Creative Suite.
Adobe no longer sells upgrades to CS3 or CS4.
