Photoshop CS4 takes to long to open.

My photoshop CS4 takes a really long time to open, almost 5 minutes. it used to open a lot quicker. how can i fix this?

My first guess is that you moved the application out of the application folder, and someplace like the root level of the hard disk.
So when it goes to search for plug-ins and presets, it ends up scanning the whole hard disk. Just put the app back where it belongs.
Another possibliity is that you dumped thousands of files into the plugins or presets folders. Take them out.

That would be due to your network.
Some common things to check
Current connection, use speedtest.net
Go to istumbler (Mac) or netstumbler (PC) to get a report of your network, it will help see if there's interference.
On Apple TV go to settings - general - network. Make sure DNS is set to automatic.

Photoshop CS4 slowdown when Lightroom is open...

Hey everyone,
I am using Lightroom (x64) to manage and sort my files and my typical workflow has me editing in Photoshop (CS4 x64) from out of lightroom. I noticed at first that when I tried the new healing brush that it was a lot slower than the CS3 version of the brush. One day I was editing out of Bridge and noticed a significant speed boost while using the brush, it was working like the previous version of the brush. I pointed the finger at Lightroom, so I opened it and tried editing out of LR again. Same slow down. The only thing I can think of is that they are both using openGL and there might a conflict somewhere? LR works fine by itself and PS also work great while LR is closed. And PS works fine as long as it isn't using any of the new openGL (assumption) features, like the healing brush. If anyone else has been experiencing this and has found a solution I am all ears. My system is a Q6600, 8gb ram, ati Radeon 3850, all drivers are up to date.

In terms of RAM usage, I am fine, it's totaling around 6gb when both are running.
In terms of OpenGL, I just assumed it was. I am using LR 2 and thought that was the reason for the speed of the adjustment brush and thumbnail sizing. It seems visually obvious to me when either PS or LR does a redraw using openGL. Please correct me if I'm wrong, as I can't seem to find any documentation.

Does your DW CS4 takes too long to close?

My Dreamweaver (CS4 Mac) used to take SOOO LONG to close! The more open documents the longer it took, and the past week I had about 8-10 documents open, which were at least open the week before ( I barely turn off my computer) and they closed in a flash!
I even re-opened DW and many documents, and after many hours working with them made a video of the closing windows (tabs). They closed so fast that in the video you couldn't see the windows flashing which means they happened faster than 30fps! It was like a machine gun!
I don't remember when it started to take that long to close the open documents either because it happened very gradually or because it started so back in time, but this is the first time they close that fast, and the issue is gone now. I wonder whether it's just an isolated case or there are others out there who experienced that.

Edit in Photoshop CS4... does not open the selected file.

Sorry if this is an old topic, but I can not seem to find the answer and I was hoping someone here might know.
When in Lightroom (2.2 or 2.3) if I select "Edit in Photoshop CS4..." or any of those dropdown commands, Photoshop opens....and that is it. The selected photo from Lightroom is NOT opened/merged/panoramaized. duuh. frustrating.
So I re-installed Lightroom, updated to the 2.3, re-installed CS4. all with the same effect that Photoshop opens, but the selected file is NOT opened.
Has anyone experienced this? Any solutions?

Short version:
When I created a new lightroom catalog, and imported a single, standalone file, It worked fine. But when I imported to the new catalog, any photos from my existing catalog, it would fail.
Turns out that I was doing something a bit out of the ordinary with the IPTC Copyright field. In order to make my copyright information look "different" when I would export a file.
One would normally put in that field something like "© 2009 someone". I discovered a few months ago that I could make this field display as a multi line entry.
ie.
if you wanted to put XY into the copyright field, but wanted it to display as:
X
Y
all you would have to do is to put a carrage return between the two characters. (hint ctl^enter). Now when you displayed the "copyright" in an output file, it will display
vertically instead of all the characters in a horizontal line.
After being frustrated by this for a couple of weeks, I simply started removing every option that I might have applied to photographs that I would import with Lightroom. One of the last ones was the "vertical" information I put in the copyright field in a Preset. (when you remove the obvious...).
Funny thing is that no program really cares about the formatting of that field, or if it has multiple lines in the data, or special characters.......It even opens up just fine in Photoshop / Gimp / PSE / etc. with no problems.
But, if you have multiple lines of data in the Copyright Field (and I suspect others as well),
AND you want to open up the file from Lightroom in Photoshop, using the standard menu item of " Edit with Photoshop CS4", for some reason Photoshop will start, but never open the designated file. I would expect some parsing something just giving up after it encounters a CR.
But.....All is well that ends well. Now I can quit obsessing, and move on to something else...

Photoshop cs4 crashing on saving and opening .pdf

Each time i try to use photoshop cs4 to save a file as a pdf or open a pdf the pinwheel will pop up and the programs will crash. I still use the cs3 nd it will do save the files as pdf with no problem. I have a mac book pro 2.4 ghz processor with 256 graphics card and 4gb of ram.
i dont think memory is the issue.

No, that is NOT a problem.
The problem would have been uninstalling CS3 incorrectly.
I have Photoshop 7.0.1, 8, 9.0.2, 10.0.1 and 11.0.1 (CS4) happily coexisting on my machine.

Photoshop CS4 crashes everytime it is opened

I have have photoshop cs4 installed on this computer for a little over a month now. Up until today it has run without any problems whatsoever. For Christmas, I recieved a Wacom Pen and Touch tablet. I installed it yesterday and had some time to play around with it and doodle for a while. Today when I went back into Photoshop I was greeted by continuous crashes. Photoshop itself will open but I am unable to open any documents, create new documents or even browse menu options. Anything that I click on brings up the "Photoshop has encountered and error and needs to close" box. Every once and a while I get a video driver error and notified that openGL has been disabled. I have updated Photoshop, my graphics driver, and even uninstalled, tried the adobe solutions at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405064.html and even uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop. Nothing is working and I am getting quite frustrated. What could be wrong that yesterday it was working perfectly but today it will not even open. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is the Bamboo a USB tablet? Could be a conflict with your USB controller?
What other USB devices do you have connected? Mouse? Externals? Keyboard? Other?
If the proper installation of the Wacom driver does not fix things, this would be my next area to research.

Business Rules Project Takes Too Long to Open

Does anyone know why it takes too long (~3-5 minutes) to open/edit a security project definded for assigning business rules to planning application forms? We are using Hyperion v11.1.1.3.0. Essbase is on Windows server, Shared Services on Solaris 10 Unix. Even before we migrated Essbase to Windows to gain better performance running calcs, opening projects using EAS has always been very slow to open. Please advice if there is a way to improve performance on this.

Photoshop CS4 and iMac(ATI 4850) Open GL problem?

Hi: My problem is; when I click full screen mode with menu bar options(Shortcut is F) my workshop background grey area has a colorfull noise and lines(Randomly). My machine and graphic card compatible with Open GL. Anyone know why did happen like that? Buy the way I did all updates. My guess this problem happened after Mac OSX(10.5.7) updates. How can I fix this?
Ps: My machine 2009 iMac 2.93 Ghz with ATI 4850....

yeah, short term test deems keeping both cards in.
So, here are the results: Notes: I have 2 monitors, an Apple 30" and Apple 23". The 30" can only be used in the dual link dvi port and NOT the Mini Display port. Second: The ATI 4870 seems to have an issue with the Mini Display port, it does not work, alone or in tandem with the dual link dvi port being used. Apple is replacing the card (heretofore, I had no cause to use the Mini Display port on the 4870 at all) Third: Only Photoshop CS4 extended was used to see if the card was detected and if it had enabled Open GL

Won't allow Photoshop CS4 to be default to open PSD files?

I am running Windows Vista and I'm trying to set Photoshop CS4 to be the 'default' to open .psd files, but for some reason it won't allow me to do this? Has anyone else ever had this issue. I have no clue why it won't allow me to do this because it's the default for several other extensions...
Any help or insight would be MUCH appreciated!

Weird thing is, it shows that PhotoShop CS4 is what is used to open the .psd, .psb, etc files.. but I right click it and it has two other options.
I actually chose "Open With" Adobe Bridge, just out of curiosity to see if it would work and it does. It seems like Photoshop CS4 is the only program I can't set to default open these files!
It's not making much sense to me right now haha.

Why does it take too long to open attachments from email account?

It takes forever to download attachments from my email account. I have tried to do the following tasks explained on the vista forum :http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/6b046ae9-1434-4423-9303-400ff6fe686b1033.mspx#ESD but none of the possible fixes work.
After clicking open on the pop up box asking whether i want to open or save the attachement It takes too long to download it. The transfer window stays open showing that it is ready to download but stays at that bhox window. I press cancel and try to open again, if lucky it opens that file, otherwise it takes forever forceing me to cancel. The files very small files most of the time, usually between 50kb so should take seconds.
I have even tried to save the files but again same process. The transfer box stays open but does not download.
Any one any ideas.

It is not easy to say what happen exactly but it must be something with email account provider and their page. For me this case is not some typical Vista problem but you can try to find solution on Microsoft Vista IT Pro forum.
By the way: do you have alternative mail address by some other provider? Is there the same situation?
