Photoshop CS4 transform selection bug?
Hello.
First off a minor rant about these forums. I already had a Adobe ID which doubles for a forum login ONLY ON FORMER MACROMEDIA FORUMS! I have to have a completely different login for original Adobe software forums. Jeez WTF?
Ok so if I make a selection in Photoshop CS4 Extended, then go to transform selection and transform the selection, the resulting selection has a 1-2 pixel semi transparent edge. I have double checked my settings so make sure there is no feathering applied. It only happens when I use select>transform selection. It is driving me nuts as I use this method for making pricise selections in my regular workflow. I find it easier to make a close selection then resize with transform. But now when I go to paste it into a new layer/document there's now a "feathered" edge for lack of a better term. So now I have to either use add/subtract from the selection or make a precise selection in the option bar.
has anyone else noticed this in their PS CS4? I never noticed it in CS3. I'm contemplating going back to CS3 as the "tabbed" interface is balls as is app frame. And yes I know I can turn it off which I have, but still have to deal with inadvertent document tabbing when moving windows around.
Thanks.
>the ATI 9600 which is another beast
My bad. :(
> I always hate trashing the preference file as I end up having to spend time getting everything back the way I like it.
Kevin, you won't lose your workspaces, just the settings from the Preferences menu item and your Color Settings. But, here's a tip: next time you have to re-set them, just record yourself in an action as you're doing it. Next time all you have to do is run the action. :)
Oh, and you don't have to trash any file(s) manually. Just hold down Command Option Shift as you launch Photoshop.

Photoshop CS4 printer selection failure
Wondering if anyone might know what's happening here....
Using Photoshop CS4, Windows 7 SP1, Novell Network Printers.
There are 2 problems:
1) In the print dialog box, no matter what printer is selected, the page setup button has settings for a different printer.
2) After clicking print on the print dialog box, the system print dialog box has the wrong printer selected. The selected printer is random depending on what printers are installed. It is not the default printer necessarily.I am not understanding what your trying to do or the steps. When you install the plug in your saying there should be your printer listed in PS CS4 Export as a option to choose from? Do you have a 64 bit OS? If so my guess is that it is only a 32 bit plugin option and maybe you installed it in the 64 bit plug in folder? Or the opposite?

Photoshop CS4 brush cursor bug on Thinkpad T61p
I've got a Thinkpad T61p with a Nvidia Quadro FX 570M onboard (driver version: 6.14.11.7471). There seems to be a bug with the graphics driver in conjunction with the new Adobe Photoshop CS4. Photoshop now uses GPU-optimization with more brush capabilities. Unfortunately the cursor clips when using brush-sizes larger than 64px. One can see the bug on the nvidia cs4 promotion "brush resizing" at http://www.nvidia.com/object/adobe_photoshop.html. Nvidia corrects this bug in newer driver versions, but lenovo only offers a WinXP-display-driver from 2008-04-28.
Does anyone know any workround? I've tested somo older forceware drivers (178.24) with partial success. The display bug in Photoshop is fixed, but e.g. After Effects CS4 crashes while detecting the GPU.
Message Edited by mikey on 10-23-2008 03:20 AMToday I've installed the latest Forceware Drivers 180.60 from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ to test the bug behaviour.
The brush cursor now seems to be able to handle big brush sizes but the performance is reduced noticable. When painting inside a new document the rendering of the brush path is done after painting over the area, even when using small brush sizes.
So let's wait until Nvidia/Lenovo roll out a new driver.

Photoshop CS4 Snow Leopard Bugs: Cursor Position & Grains
Currently running OSX Snow Leopard (10.6.1), and just installed the latest Adobe updates this morning (9.22.09).
There are two bugs in Ps CS4 I've encountered, one minor but aesthetically unpleasant, and the other major and disrupting:
The first bug occurs at random when Ps is extended to "Full Screen Mode with Menu Ba." As seen in the image at the following link, graininess occurs in Ps's canvas background, and wont disappear until the screen mode is toggled (pressing the "F" key three times): http://img.skitch.com/20090922-tyxk4dfrak4dtf2f4rg7fgyn59.jpg Again, not a major bug, but simply annoying to look at.
The second, more annoying bug, has to do with the cursor and selection tools. I could not determine when exactly this happens and how it goes away, but a few times throughout the day the selection cursor is a few pixels off. When either the lasso, magic wand, marquee or other similar tools are selected, the actual area from which Ps begins to select is about 10-15 pixels below the cursor position, see image in link for clarification: http://img.skitch.com/20090922-1jyqdtj34xw99ysq4gjxhxx57c.jpg
I hope this notice gets the bugs fixed. If you're experiencing similar Snow Leopard side-effects and can detect how and when they occur, please let me know. The canvas background pixelation, I can live with...but the cursor selection bug makes my day twice as difficult and slows my workflow down to a snail's pace. Not sure about the graininess as I have never seen it but it seems to be the same fix as for the curser being off by 10 pixels. cycle though the screen modes with the F key. this has nothing to do with Snow Leopard as it is present in both Tiger and Leopard as well.
This bug is only present when you create a new doc in full screen mode. If you are a new convert to Mac from Windows you might want to use the application frame, this will give you the gray background without those two annoyances. You can find the application frame at the bottom of the Window menu. this is a new feature on the Mac version with CS4. -
Photoshop CS4 serious dragging bug
I'm running Photoshop CS4 in two different MacBook Pro's unibody, both with 10.6.4 installed, both PSD versions are separate copies with different licenses and both are updated to the latest release, 11.0.2.
In both machines I've experienced a serious dragging issue that so far seems to be related to something in Safari, particularly when I drag an image straight from the browser to the photoshop window. The bug consists of immediately any function that includes dragging something across the screen (painting, scaling, panning, cropping, rotating, you name it) becomes impossible to do, and the screen "stutters" all over the place for several seconds until the issue goes away itself. The problem has become super frequent in one of my computers, the newest one which I mostly use with an intuos 4, the other one I use with an intuos 3, as mentioned before both laptops are unibody, but one i got in december 2008 and the other one in february 2010.
The issue has gotten to the point where it is almost impossible to work with that computer, as it is happening sometimes up to 5 or 6 times each minute.
Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated. From the PS CS4 manual:
Change the Color Picker
Instead of using the Adobe Color Picker, you can choose colors from your computer operating system’s standard Color Picker or from a third party Color Picker.
1 Choose Edit > Preferences > General (Windows) or Photoshop > Preferences > General (Mac OS).
2 Choose a Color Picker from the Color Picker menu, and click OK.
For more information, see your operating system documentation.
Note: To return to the Adobe Color Picker, choose it from the Color Picker menu in the General Preferences. -
Photoshop CS4 Network Printing
I have an issue if I have multiple network printers mapped on my workstation of the same model type/driver, the Adobe Photoshop Print Dialog resorts to the first of the two printers when going to page setup or hitting print when the second printer is selected. For example:
I have two printers A and B, both same model using the same print driver mapped in Windows. Printer B is set as my default printer. In Adobe Photoshop CS4, when selecting > File>Print when the dialog box opens for the print options, if I select "Page Setup" the page setup dialog box for Printer A will appear (even though printer B was set in the printer drop-down menu on the Print dialog gui. In addition, if I have printer B selected in the Print gui, and I select the "Print" button, when the next windows print dialog box pop's up, Printer A will be selected. Photoshop always resolves to the first alphabetically mapped printer of the same model.Network printers with the same driver need to be mapped to different virtual printer ports to be truly distinguishable. has to do with how windows resolves shared resources. If the printer driver doesn't offer this option during install, you can always do so manually in the advanced printer settings...

Re: Lightroom 4.3 images do not show in Photoshop cs4
Running Lightroom 4.3 on Vista, I cant pass processed Canon EOS 6D RAW images to Photoshop CS4. when selecting to edit in CS4, Photoshop runs but no image appears. There is no error message. In Lightroom Photoshop editor preferences it makes no difference whether I select PSD of TIFF. Is thsi because CS4 is passed an incompatible RAW file... if so whyt no error message? Anyone any ideas?
You need to make sure Lightroom does the rendering (as CS4's ACR isn't compatible with LR4). When you choose edit in photoshop, do you get a compatibility warning with a prompt allowing you to choose "Render using lightroom" or "Open anyway"? If so, choose "Render using lightroom".
If you don't get the prompt, to to Edit menu, Preferences and general tab and click "Reset all warning dialogs". -
Colours do not Print correctly with Photoshop CS4
I am using the Adobe Master Collection CS4, and use an Epson RX650 printer, but for the life of me I cannot get Photoshop to print what is on the screen.
The prints are dark, and no where near the ones on the screen.
I am using genuine Epson Ink, and Premium glossy paper, so as to remove this issue, is this a case of my screen needing to be calibrated?
I have considered buying the Spyde Studio calibrator to ensure that this is correct, (do I need to?) and I have read as much as I can about setting up Adobe to manage the print settings and colours, but still no luck.
My current settings are as follows
In Adobe Bridge, my creative suit color settings are set to Europe General Purpose 2
The in Adobe Photoshop (version 11.0.1) I am selecting under colour management, Document Adoby RGB (1998), Photoshop handles colours, Printer profile is Epson sRGB Colour Space, Rendering intent is Relative Colourimetric, and I have ticked the following boxs, Blackpoint compensation, Match print colours, Gamut warning and Show paper white.
Can some one please advise me?I too have had problems with prints being much darker than what I see on screen.
Below is my solution which works fairly well for color prints--not as well for grayscale.
I used the huey Pro monitor calibrator purchased only a couple of months back to make my prints look right and be consistent.
1. Use the huey to calibrate the monitor
2. From Photoshop (CS4), I select the ICC profile for my Epson 2200 printer and the paper being used. I then set up soft proofing in Photoshop (in the View menu) which allows me to see on screen how the image will be printed. Usually it is a bit darker than I like.
3. so I adjust the brightness such that in the soft proof view, the image appears as I wish.
4. There is more yet to do in that you have to set various settings for the print process like letting Photoshop manage colors, setting no color adjustment for the printer. And a few more minor settings regarding the printer
By the way, there is something wrong with the print driver for the 2200 in XP so that when you come to the last screen before printing, the print preview has a very red tint. You simply ignore that since the print has none of that. This is in XP. Possibly Windows Vista has a driver that doesn’t do that.
This has given me good quality consistent prints the first time they are printed—at least on the few I have done since getting the huey

Unibody Nvidia + Photoshop CS4 OpenGL bug?
I am experiencing a particular bug in Photoshop CS4 Extended which is related to the OpenGL GPU acceleration which is very dependent on the video driver. The particular bug I'm seeing is when I free transform a object/layer or perform a transform selection the transformed object/layer/selection is off by a pixel and that pixel is semi-transparent with whatever is being transformed.
Can anybody with both a unibody and Photoshop CS4 test this on their system to see if its really an issue with the driver or if it is something with my Photoshop installation?
Here's what I do to test. 1. creat a new doc at any size/ppi. 2. drag out a selection and fill with a solid color. 3. free transform object/selection. 4. zoom in on transformed object and look at the edges to see if there is this feathered/semi-transparent edge.
I haven't tested in bootcamp since I don't have a Win version of CS4.
Thanks.Here are screenshots:
I reset Photoshop preferences. Then reinstalled Photoshop which seemed to make things kinda better. I only get the distortion when free transforming and not transforming a selection. -
Photoshop CS4 Trial Bugs - Eraser & Text problems
Hows everybody doing...I recently downloaded the Photoshop CS4 Extended Trial and installed it on my computer...I am noticing some bugs and im not really sure if its just a bug in the trial version which will be fixed when i buy the program or if there was an error with the install...
I dont have screenshots at the moment since im not on the computer having the issue but i can get them if needed...
First lets start with the eraser tool...When i set the eraser tool as a size of say about 10px it works fine...However, if i zoom in on the image above its nautral size i start to lose the eraser...When i say lose the eraser i mean you can no longer seen the round area which will be erased..When you zoom in part of the circle disappears...It will still erase and area of the set size but its sort of hard to do erasing on detailed images when you cant see the whole eraser....
More bugs with the eraser....If i set the eraser to a larger size, say 30px or more, i right off the bat start seeing less of the eraser area....It will go from a whole circle down to something like a half moon with only half the circle being displayed...
This may be a little hard to understand so if need be i will get some screenshots of what im talking about later....
I am also having a problem with the text...For starters, i cant scroll through the text...When i enter text and highlight it and highlight the fonts i would expect to be able to scroll through the fonts while watching the actual text change on thet screen....I am unable to do that, i highlight the text and the fonts and CS4 will let me scroll maybe 4-5 fonts and then it just stops and wont scroll anymore...
Another issue im having with the font is the size....Whenever i enter text it is extremely small...Even if im working with a 200px x 200px image if i set my font at say 75px its tiny, tiny enough to where i cant even see it to highlight it....There appears to be something wrong with the sizing of the text...Just to get text to show up normally, at a readable size, i have to set the font size to 800px+ and this is on images which are only like 600px wide and 300px tall...Usually a font of 800px would fill up this image but when i do it the 800px font shows up like a 36px font...
Like i said if this is all to hard to understand i can get some screen shots later on...I wanna make sure this is something which can be fixed before i go ahead and drop 700+ on the program...Yes i installed the patch...That was the first thing i did, before checking the video driver...The patch didnt fix any of the problems im having...The video driver update did however fix the eraser/brush issue...
I did what you said in post #1 about un-checking the option listed....When i did that nothing changed for me....
I have some more details about the scrolling issue though....From what i am able to find it seems that if i just enter digits i am able to scroll through the entire list of fonts and see a live preview of every single one....
With any sort of text it will only allow me to scroll through 5-6 fonts...You can see that it wants to scroll more when i hold the arrow down cause you can see the blue hightlight flashing and the words trying to change but it just wont go any further...At times when i hold the arrow down to scroll through the fonts it will scroll through 5-6 and then all of a sudden just go white and wont let me scroll up or not...At that point i have to select the font list and pick a font -
Photoshop CS4 Crashes when I try to transform anything
Sorry if I'm not following some cardinal rules, I'm a first time poster. I will try to be as descriptive as I can.
Photoshop CS4 crashes whenever I try to free transform anything not just eps/smart objects, literally anything. It locks up and freezes the whole computer. I have to reboot to do anything. I've read some of the threads and have tried the following things:
• Deleted the eps parser plugin.
• Deleted any fonts that came up as corrupted or any warning of any kind.
• Reseted my photoshop preferences.
• Reset the pram on my iMac.
Please any help or ideas would be extremely appreciated.
Here is a screenshot of my "About This Mac". So you know what kinda setup I have.It doesn't totally lock the computer up. I can move the mouse around but I have the beach ball and I can't click on anything. Their was a few times that I got it to unlock and fully crash but then my screen gets all funky (lack of a better term) like color blocks and distorted. I then have to restart it anyways but I at least am able to shutdown properly.
I've had this problem before, about a month ago, but I cannot find the site online that told me what to do. What ever it was that I did, it worked.
I think this might be the crash report.

Photoshop CS4 selection tool 1px off
HI,
for some reason, when using rectangular marquee tool in PS CS4, the selection is 1px off. Ie, when i draw a selection rectangle around a box, on 100% zoom it seems a perfect fit, but when zooming closer, the selection is off to the left by 1 px.
When i use "transform selection" and drag the selection 1px to match the shape again on high zoom, it shows OK both on 100% and zoomed in.

Of course, if you can provide us with information about your GPU and OS version, we can try to track down the cases we missed, and continue to work with Apple and the GPU makers to get the driver issue resolved.
Since you asked... still 1 pixel off with openGL on, Mac OS X 10.6.6 and Photoshop 12.01.

Photoshop CS4 Menu toolbar display bug and fullscreen slowness...
http://img384.imageshack.us/img384/8202/menutoolsbugee3.gif
I'm having a display bug with the menu toolbar in Photoshop CS4 Extended. Notice the area of tools is gone and replaced by random pixels? This happens whenever I enter the fullscreen mode that hides the interface. And when I exit that fullscreen mode, that bug appears and doesn't fix itself until I restart Photoshop. Can this be fixed?
Image view rotation also happens much slower than normal in that fullscreen mode when interface is hidden. But performs normally after I bring back the interface.
I'm on WinXP, Athlon 64 4000+, 3GB ram, GeForce 6800 GT video card [driver 169.21]. I'm not sure if this is a video driver bug or CS4 bug.Yeah, Dave, I can understand how that can happen. I've seen that sort of weirdness when I've seriously overtaxed my hardware.
<br />
<br />Had way too much running all at once yesterday, switched over to Firefox, and clicking on folders in the Bookmarks bar, I had 4 bookmark/folder menus dropped simultaneously.
<br />
<br />I managed to grab a screenshot with 2 of them showing, but man! You shoulda seen it with 4!
<br />
<br />I ESC'ed out, quit GarageBand (had a song project of several hundred MB going) and all was fixed.

Edit in Photoshop CS4... does not open the selected file.
Sorry if this is an old topic, but I can not seem to find the answer and I was hoping someone here might know.
When in Lightroom (2.2 or 2.3) if I select "Edit in Photoshop CS4..." or any of those dropdown commands, Photoshop opens....and that is it. The selected photo from Lightroom is NOT opened/merged/panoramaized. duuh. frustrating.
So I re-installed Lightroom, updated to the 2.3, re-installed CS4. all with the same effect that Photoshop opens, but the selected file is NOT opened.
Has anyone experienced this? Any solutions?
Thanks in advance. When you remove the obvious,
that which is left must therefore be the truth -- Sherlock Holmes
Short version:
When I created a new lightroom catalog, and imported a single, standalone file, It worked fine. But when I imported to the new catalog, any photos from my existing catalog, it would fail.
Turns out that I was doing something a bit out of the ordinary with the IPTC Copyright field. In order to make my copyright information look "different" when I would export a file.
One would normally put in that field something like "© 2009 someone". I discovered a few months ago that I could make this field display as a multi line entry.
ie.
if you wanted to put XY into the copyright field, but wanted it to display as:
X
Y
all you would have to do is to put a carrage return between the two characters. (hint ctl^enter). Now when you displayed the "copyright" in an output file, it will display
vertically instead of all the characters in a horizontal line.
After being frustrated by this for a couple of weeks, I simply started removing every option that I might have applied to photographs that I would import with Lightroom. One of the last ones was the "vertical" information I put in the copyright field in a Preset. (when you remove the obvious...).
Funny thing is that no program really cares about the formatting of that field, or if it has multiple lines in the data, or special characters.......It even opens up just fine in Photoshop / Gimp / PSE / etc. with no problems.
But, if you have multiple lines of data in the Copyright Field (and I suspect others as well),
AND you want to open up the file from Lightroom in Photoshop, using the standard menu item of " Edit with Photoshop CS4", for some reason Photoshop will start, but never open the designated file. I would expect some parsing something just giving up after it encounters a CR.
But.....All is well that ends well. Now I can quit obsessing, and move on to something else...
Best,

Isn't the Adobe forums to report the bugs ? Is there a special contact form for bugs ?
No... this is a USER TO USER forum, not Adobe support... only the space is provided by Adobe, for users to try to help other users
Go to http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform - do be
