Photoshop CS4, Vista Ulitmate 32 bit, GeForce 9600GT - no image at all

Hi,
I read and read and searched but couldn't find issue like mine.
After I installed PS CS4 for the first time, everything worked fine. OpenGL support also worked.
I updated nVidia drivers from 17x.xx to 181.22 and problem appeared.
When I open any psd document, or create new one, I do not see content of it. I see UI, Tools, Tabs, Panels, but I do not see content of document and guidlines. I even see content in layers panel, but not in the main window.
However if I "float window", "untab" it, and start dragging it around I see content. As soon as I release mouse everything again disappears.
I updated drivers to 182.06, latest as of this writing, and problem is not solved.
- disabling PhysX does not help.
- disabling "Use for image display" in OpenGL advanced settings in PS does not help.
- disabling all options in OpenGL advanced settings does not help.
- disabling OpenGL in PS completely, helps.
Windows is updated.
Does anyone have similar problem? Any suggestions or workaround?
Because card is listed as supported, and PS used to work with OpenGL enabled correctly, I guess there must be solution, beside installing older drivers.

I think Adobe's recommendation to run the latest drivers is nonsense. Nvidia does a poor job of checking out drivers for its consumer (gamer) product line. I have a GTX 260 card and with the latest Nvidia driver I'm getting apparently random mishandling of drop down menus - they sometimes drop down with transparency - and if I click on a selection the graphic for that selection will remain on top of everything until a new transparent drop down appears and I use it, or I put the system to sleep and awaken it.
Kwan, I fear your happy hardware mix is potentially a driver change away from display problems, so I'd recommend you don't follow Adobe's advice and run the latest drivers for your adapaters.
If you have to roll back your drivers to get back to a functioning system, you may need to use a driver uninstaller to clean out the files that aren't touched by uninstallation and reinstallation.
Here are two that I've used trying to debug issues that I had with a previous Nvidia 9800 card:
Driver Sweeper (freeware)
http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1655
Driver Cleaner Pro (free evaluation only)
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Secure-cleaning/Driver-Cleaner.shtml
Welcome to the tail end of a product that's driven by the gaming market. The Nvidia Quadro CX card has essentially the same performance as the GTX 260 card I'm running. But the Quadro series drivers are optimized for workstation reliability and productivity. Unfortunately, there's a $1000 extra cost for the workstation card and access to drivers that aren't perpetually being tweaked for better performance with the most popular games.

  • Pen Pressure in CS4 Vista 64-bit

Even through all other applications on my PC were able to respond to tablet pen pressure, CS4 running in Vista 64-bit did not. I was able to get the pressure to work when executing the 32-bit photoshop.exe found in C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Photoshop.exe. I'll continue to use the 32-bit program until Adobe solves this in the 64-bit version.
It was good of Adobe to automatically install both a 32-bit and a 64-bit version of the program.

[high pitched Flanders] aaarrrrgghhhhh [/high pitched Flanders]
    ..>cough<..sorry about that.. :)
cs4 x64 in vista x64 does respond to pen pressure....have you installed the new drivers...are you using a Wacom?

  • Photoshop CS4 and PowerPC G5 GeForce 6600

I get frequent alert from Photoshop CS4 regarding display driver which say's to
check for driver update and that Open GL 2.0 is not available and that GPU is turned off. I can work in the photoshop but a few things are slow and look is not that great.
So can anyone help with this? I can't seem to find anything regarding a solution for this on apple or adobe or anywhere. anyone have some help or ideas. Do i need to upgrade to OS to 10.5 or is it a driver. which is can't seem to find. Also I have run apple software update a number of times and it says everything is updated and good to go.

the 6600 wasn't an officially supported card which shipped with any mac.

Ok, try this: Photoshop Preferences > Performance, UNcheck OpenGL Drawing. You don't need it, it's an eyecandy feature for the PS GUI more than anything else.

  • Photoshop CS4 stopped opening in Admin account but fine in all others

    Hello,
I have encountered a bit of an issue. i have used my CS4 photoshop for years now on my original administrator account which is the account I installed it on but now when i try to open it I get the splash screen and it starts to load and then where it should fully open it just goes away?? I can log in to any other account on my computer and it opens just fine. Anyone have any ideas as it is a bit annoying to have to sign out go to another user account edit then log out and then back in to my normal admin account..Thanks

I have read accounts from others who have said that disabling the ScriptingSupport.8li plug-in (e.g., by renaming it ~ScriptingSupport.8li) has restored operation for them when they were seeing something similar to this.
If you try it and it doesn't work, don't forget to restore it to its former name.
You'll find it in one of these places:
    32 bit OS:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Plug-ins\Extensions\ScriptingSupport.8li
    64 bit OS:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Plug-ins\Extensions\ScriptingSupport.8li
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4 (64 Bit)\Plug-ins\Extensions\ScriptingSupport.8li

  • Windows Vista 64 bit and HP 2840 Color LaserJet All-In-One - Workaround

Although HP has not provided a workable solution for a use of a HP 2840 Color LaserJet All-In-One with Windows Vista 64 bit, I did manage to get it to work. The solution is a bit convoluted and may not work for all users but here’s how I did it. I'm running Vista Ultimate 64 bit. Not sure how other Vista versions may behave.
I tried many different solutions that did not work. Attempting to install many different versions of the HP 2840 software in different compatibility modes ended up rendering my other HP 4385 All-In-One inoperative.  I deleted every piece of HP software and hardware from my system and reinstalling the HP 4385 software. Still couldn’t get my 4385 working again. I finally ended up restoring my system to restore point prior to attempting to install the HP 2840. All this to say that if you’ve made several attempts to get it working you may need to back up and punt with a restore.
Make sure your HP 2840 is NOT connected.
Press the “Scan” button on the 2840 (The control panel on the 2840 should say ‘Waiting on PC”).
Plug the HP 2840 in via a USB cable. A “New hardware” message should pop up on the PC.
Minimize this window. DO NOT MAKE ANY ATTEMPT TO INSTALL DRIVERS. Just ignore this message for the moment.
In Windows, go to CONTROL PANEL/SCANNERS AND CAMERAS. Hopefully you’ll see a “HP 2840 LaserJet Scanner”. If not, the rest will probably not work.
Now hit the "Windows Start" button. Select "Programs" or "All Programs" (depending on your setup configuration). Open "Windows Fax Scan". It should connect to the 2840 Scanner. Experiment with the scanner and select flatbed and feeder input  to make sure it functions properly. Once satisfied that the scanner is working properly you can configure the printer.
On the “New Hardware Detected” window that you minimized in step 4, select “Do Not Ask Me Again For This Hardware”.
Connect the 2840 to your network via a CAT cable.
On your PC press the "Windows Start" button and select “Settings and Printers”.
    Select “Add a Printer”.
    Select “Add a Network Printer”.
Windows will scan your network searching for printers. It should find your 2840.
Select “Next” (It is not necessary to let the search complete once your 2840 has been identified).
From the dropdown list, select ‘HP” and “HP Universal Printing PCL 6". It was the last one in the list for me.
    Print a test page
You should now have a HP 2840 network printer and a local 2840 scanner.
O course the drawback is that you can only scan to the PC where the 2840 scanner is attached via the USB cable. You can print from any PC on your network by following steps 9 through 15 on each network PC.
Another little tidbit I ran into; selecting any other driver besides the “HP Universal Printing PCL 6" driver cause my Microsoft Office 2007 to crash any time I selected the "Save As" option. I found some links on the Internet that indicate this is a known problem. It may not affect you but you might want to play it safe.
    Hope this helps someone.

Uninstall the HP software using the uninistaller in the HP folder.
    Restart your PC.
Get the latest software for your printer from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Just downloaded Firefox 4 on Windows Vista 32-bit and its not working at all.

So I just downloaded Firefox 4 on Windows Vista 32-bit, and it's not working at all. I open up Firefox and there is not tab bar, and all the command buttons are repeated 3 times, and are on 3 different bars. This only happens with Firefox 4 and not Firefox 3.6.10. Also, when I go the menu bar and I try to click soething, nothing happens. I'm not sure why this is going on. Help anyone? Here is a link to a screenshot of my browser.
    http://img683.imageshack.us/i/firefox4y.jpg/

I have this too, but doesn't even startup now? I downgraded to the previous version and all is OK. I also have a 64 bit version of Vista and it seems to work "a-OK" on that machine.
Seems to me to be 32-bit issue.
    Editing this post:
I just seen a possible answer...Do you have roboform installed (in the taskbar also)? If so, try disabling it or removing it and try to start again. I said above that I have 2 units and on the one (32-bit) I have Roboform installed and it crashes, but on the other one I don't...so go figure.
According to the report I read, if you upgrade Roboform it should be OK, although I have not tested as of yet...I am still at work...
    Hope that helps...

  • Photoshop CS4 (Vista x64) Type Tool Crash

    Hey guys,
I recently installed CS4 and am loving it a lot. Although, I have found a very fatal bug that I need to correct.
I'm running Photoshop Extended on Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 x64. I can start Adobe just fine, make documents, and such. The crash happens any time I go to make some text. I am able to start the text tool and then it will crash the second I click to start typing. I googled on this issue and found that it is likely a font in my library causing the issue, but how do you find the font that is causing the trouble?
    A few notes:
    - this only happens on the 64-bit version. 32-bit works fine.
    - looking at the list of fonts, there are only a tiny chunk that have font previews, the rest are blank.
Hopefully someone knows how to single out the font causing the issue and I can get this resolved.
    Thanks

The "issue", as you call it, is caused by the font being faulty (by omission or design). Adobe programs tend to object to faulty fonts but the onus is upon the font designer to follow specifications.
Having said that, it would be nice if Adobe could make their application degrade gracefully rather than locking up when it encounters such a problem.
    You
may be able to use the font by disabling font previews in preferences.

  • Photoshop CS4 fails to identify GeForce GTX 295

Photoshop posts a failure notice that the GeForce GTX 295 is outdated and unsupported. Newest driver has been updated. I have installed the script to allow Photoshop to talk to older video cards with no prevail. Open GL settings are dimmed aswell. Anyone know the work around for this issue?

As Chris said, check your driver ansd install the latest one. In the past, people had to disable the secondary GPU to get a 295 to work with PS, but that should no longer be an issue with the latest drivers. If it still is, check the NVidia panel and simply do as I told.

  • Photoshop CS4/Vista Blending Options "Mouse" Frozen

Odd issue that I may have caused while working fast and not paying attention. MAY have clicked "do you want to remove all your prefs?" that came up when using CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+S (save for web & devices). Since then, my mouse won't work in the blending options box. Example: I can choose gradient but cannot click the default gradient to get the list of my gradients. Also cannot switch from gradient to (e.g.) bevel in the same dialog box with my mouse, have to go back to the layer, blending options, choose the one I want, and use only SOME of the options. Mouse just won't work in the blending options box.
I renamed my prefs to "old" and let Photoshop rebuild them. Same issue.
Does anyone have any ideas? Many thanks in advance.

I am having the same problem using CS2. I cannot click on any of the checkboxes
    in blending options.
I dont think cs2 uses opengl.
    any suggestions are welcome.

  • Photoshop CS4 Extended    Vista

Customer Notes: Photoshop CS4 on 64 bit will only print a thumbnail, but on 32 bit it works fine.  Reinstalled drivers, no change.  print drivers are running from \windows\system32\spool\drivers\x64\.  All other programs 32/64 bit print without issue.
    1) How exactly you are trying to print ?
File, Print, select 'scale to fit media', click print.
    2) Are you getting any Error Message, If yes than what is it?
    No.
    3) Which product & version are you using?
    Photoshop Extended 11.0.1
The print problem happens on every single file I try to print.File is attached in the case
    Case number: 181143264

What is the printer? If the printer was known maybe someone might chime in.
Xerox 7760 has a problem history found on google with PS CS4 Extended on Vista 64 bit that was never resolved.

  • Help getting a Photoshop CS4 script to work with PS CS5?

I don't know AppleScript, but have a script for Photoshop CS4 that saves to the currently open image as a .png file on the desktop
    try
    tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS4"
    activate
    --get the current document name
set myDoc to the current document
set currentName to name of myDoc
    --remove .psd extension
set docBaseName to (items 1 thru ((length of currentName) - 4) of currentName) as string
    --write the temporary file
set theFile to "~/Desktop/" & docBaseName & ".png"
    --save the temp document
save myDoc in theFile as PNG with options {class:PNG save options} appending lowercase extension with copying
    end tell
    end try
Now that Photoshop CS5 is out I tried changing the script above from
    +tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS5"+
    to
    +tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS5"+
But this doesn't work. Is there any way of changing it to get it to work with Photoshop CS5?

Not able to help but I have seen problems posted with CS5 & AppleScript already at Adobe's forums…

  • Spot Channels & Smart Objects in Photoshop CS4

    Please Help!
I am trying to replace a smart object in Photoshop CS4 with a .psd, pdf or tiff image that contains a spot channel and it is not being honored in Photoshop
The Channel tab does not honor the "Spot Channel" from the replaced Smart Object image.
Question is: How can I replace a Smart Object and hold the spot channel?
    Thank you

I don't believe spot channels transfer from smart objects but there is a workaround.
    1. Select Smart Object Layer. Layer: Smart Objects: New Smart Object Via Copy
    2. Open the new smart object
    3. Load spot channel as a selection.
    4. Layer: New Fill Layer: Solid color.
    5. Hide or delete all other layers.
    6. Save and return to parent document
    7. Load the smart object layer as a selection and hide the layer
    8. Invert selection, save selection
    9. Change the new alpha to the appropriate spot color channel
Let me know if that doesn't work.
