Photoshop  CS5.1 Printing

Hi - hope someone can help me -
When I try to print, I get the following window -
"There was an error opening your printer.  Printing functions will not be available until you have selected a printer and reopened any documents"
This occurred after I have been printing successfully for a long time.
Any suggestions??
Thanks

There really is no such thing as an upgrade.  It is all the same program, just a price break.  So you probably have some printer issues left over from the previous version on the computer you "upgraded" to CS5.1.
Check to see it you have the correct printer listed.
If that looks OK you might reset the preferences and it will clean out any junk that might be a problem.  Start PS and IMMEDIATELY hold down the ctrl + alt + shift keys.  You should get a reset window.  A little tricky, so keep trying if it does not work the first time.

  • HT204135 Photoshop CS5 Printing Problem on iMac with Epson 3880 printer

All of a sudden I can't print from Photoshop CS5 on my iMac with OSX Mountain Lion installed.  I am able to print from Illustrator, however.   Have tried to update the Epson 3880 driver. After clicking on "Print", it doesn't register with the computer, and from then on, the "Print" option is greyed out.

Are you using moab icc profiles or are you using one of the epson profiles?
I always use the moab profiles which you can download from their Web site. This way you are matching the specific epson printer with the specific moab paper.
At that point you change the printer manages color to Lightroom manages color and select the specific profile. Very easy to do - they even have instructions on the Moab site for installing the profiles if you haven't done that.
Once installed you can also use them through the system print dialogs in PS but it is really much much easier to use in LR - Since coming on board with LR last summer, I have switched to doing ALL printing from LR. Since you mentioned that you are having the same problem with LR and PS, I'm betting you are using epson profiles and this will solve your problem.
    Hope so

  • Photoshop CS5 Printing Preset Problem

I am trying to print from Photoshop CS5 to a Konica Bizhub c451 printer that uses account tracking and user authentication.  But, when attempting to print from photoshop CS5 the printer preset doesn't have the same options (doesn't allow us to put in owner information) as the other CS5 products.  For example I am able to print from Illustrator CS5 but not Photoshop CS5.  I am also able to print from Photoshop CS3 on the same computer but not CS5.  Any ideas?

Get a updated driver that supports application running in 64bit mode, or a new printer with drivers that supports application running in 64bit mode.

  • Photoshop CS5 printer functions unavailable on new 21" imac, OS X version 10.6.4

Epson Stylus Photo 2200 printer, with the newest driver will not allow me to perform several important functions in Photoshop CS5 These functions are available to me in Photoshop CS2 on a G4 laptop.
When photoshop (as opposed to the printer) is assigned to manage colors in the printer's driver, "ColorSync" and "Epson Color Controls" are grayed out under print settings > color matching.
The printer profile is not  available when I set photoshop to manage the color ( only when the printer manages the color).
Under print settings >print settings> ink, the color ink option is grayed out and the black ink option is not there.
These  functions are very important for accurate color matching. I would appreciate any thoughts you have. Thank you.

Not to sound silly, but have you rebooted? Sometimes features work better after a clean exit or reboot. Also it might be helpful if we know your running Rossetta or not. You did download the latest drivers from site and did not use the CD correct? EPSON is really clear about not using the CD in Snow. Assuming your running Snow Leopard. If you did and tried to do an uninstall the preferences have files that often are not deleted and hence could be locking out features. Just suggestions like you asked. Don't want to confuse you.
    You installed this one correct:
    epson13564.dmg - 10MB - posted on 11/25/09
This file contains the Epson Stylus Photo 2200 Printer Driver v8.12.
Also knowing what color profile your using for the display might be helpful. Not to sound far fetched, but under the printer you might take it out and put it in again under Print & Fax, but look at the features it can install.
I got the new iMac 27' and still have not gotten some of my printers in the office to work. So I know what your going through.
    All the best,

    Hello Joe,
Funny enough, I was just about to run this test and happened to check with another tech about this.  Apparently another customer had gotten in touch with us regarding the same issue and after confirming this, found that it is a bug.  As such, this has been logged and we should hopefully see a fix for it in our future updates.
Please continue to check our software downloads page for this update (we do an update roughly every 6 to 8 weeks).  Thanks for your patience.

  • Photoshop cs5 printing problem

can't print photoshop cs5 document to same size as created on 27" imac.

What you see on screen is not what you print.  How have you set your printing options?

  • Photoshop CS5 Print Printing problem: print count and print to ICC profile

Since Adobe still haven't acknowledge the printing issue with CS5, I start this thread to report my own problems.
    Problem 1:
print copy count is not working. The first print is always one print regardless how many copies you set in the dialog window. The next print will actually print the copies set in the previous print job.
This is a well documented problem, and until today no fix.  I am not too worried about this problem because I can always print one copy each time to get job done, until the day Adobe acknowledge and fix the problem.
    Problem 2:
when I let the Photoshop manage color and print to a custome ICC profile (generated by Spyer3Print), Photoshop RANDOMLY decides to print a light colored magenta cast picture.  It's like Photoshop has used the wrong ICC.  Now every time I print a 13x19, I have to pray.  Because this thing is so random, I can't even reproduce the problem consistantly.
here's the information about my system:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit (not a fresh system) with 8GB RAM.  Printer drivers installed: Canon Pro9000II, Canon MP600, Epson 1400.
I experience problem 2 after I installed CS5 with Epson 1400 printer, but not too frequent.  Later on I installed drivers for Epson R1800, Epson R2400, and I mainly print with R2400.    All the printer drivers, software updates are the lastest available.
I was a software developer. I wrote windows application before. I am pretty sure the problem is with CS5 based on my knowledge.  If I wrote an Windows application that crashs Windows or another party's appliction, I certainly would not blame Microsoft or another party for not writing a bulletproof system. I would try to find a workaround in my own application.  That's just my take. Adobe may have different mind set. They are still pointing finger to MS and Epson.

I don't condone the problems, but a workaround I've recently read about for the copy count problem is to do the following, in order:
    1.  Set the copy count you want.
    2.  Click the Print Settings... button to enter the printer driver setup dialog.
    3.  [OK] out.
    4.  Print
This is reported to get the proper copy count into the print driver and make it "stick".  I just tried it and it seems to work.
Keep in mind you may want to go through this again after printing to get the copy count to default back to 1 for the next print.

  • Photoshop CS5 Printing problems on Canon MP620 - why is Quality & Media crossed out?

    Hi
I used to print from Photoshop CS3 on my Macbook Pro 10.5.8 Intel to my Canon MP620 with no problem. Now with CS5 when I press Print Setting the options for Quality & Media (where you select paper type etc.) and the menu options below it are all crossed out and I can't access them.  When I contacted Canon they told me that they do not support 3rd Party Software.
Anyone else had this probelm and know how to fix it?
    Thanks for your help!

It's great that there is a help page for this, and I did previously look for it. Probably didn't use the right keywords. However, after following the instructions for synchronizing color settings (setting "Best Workflow CS5" in Bridge as recommended by Deke), I found the printouts to be exactly the same as before. BTW, it was set by default to North America General Purpose 2 for the suite. I'll have to look into this more tomorrow.

  • Photoshop CS5 printer alignment?

    Hi there;
My printer is printing oddly from Photoshop. The colors seem to be out of alignment and it looks all screwed up. For example, brown eyes look a freakish white/blue.
I aligned the printer and I reset CS5's settings by deleting the settings file.
    Thank you for your attention.

What type of printer do you have? What type of color handling are you using? Is it only when printing from Photoshop?

  • Saving Photoshop CS5 Print dialog box presets or defaults?

This question was asked in 2008 for PS CS3 with no answer, so I will ask it again...
    OS 10.6.4
Using Canon iPF 5100 and 6100 printers
    CS 5 Photoshop
Is there a way to set a preset in the PS Print dialog window for 'Photoshop manages color' and the ICC profile so that I do not have to reset them every time I print?
Also, where does PS pull the information for the printers pop-up menu near the top of the Print dialog box? Is this a preset or is it just pulling these printer names from the OS? I ask this because when I switch between one of the iPF printers, the Print > Color Management section defaults back to 'Printer Manages Color' and greys out the profile pop-up menu.
    Thanks.

No, no presets but you can record the settings in an action. The action can record printer, printer settings and color management settings.

  • Photoshop CS5 print dialog

I am trying to print with my new 27" imac i7 (G5 forced upgrade), Snow Leopard, Epson 4000, Epson Driver 8.19 and Pshop CS5 and having a weird thing occur. In the past (CS4 on G5) I have always gone into the Pshop print dialog box and shrunk the image and repositioned it to run sequential test, same sheet before I make the larger print version. The old G5 would send the image to the printer the epson 4000 would load the paper move it the the correct location print the small area and spit out the paper. Now I send, it the printer loads the paper and as if you are printing the whole sheet image the head moves the entire width and length of the sheet but only lays down ink to where I designated in the dialog box. So the test takes as long as a full size print. Any ideas whats up?
    Thanks
    Bob Barry

No, no presets but you can record the settings in an action. The action can record printer, printer settings and color management settings.

  • When using Adobe Photoshop CS5, print settings default within the same session.

Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.  As mentioned after adjusting some settings and printing, the settings reset the next time we go to print the same file within the same session. (never closing the file)

    Hi Chris,
I will definitely give that a try. I had a tech set up my computer after i purchased it less than a week ago but it is a possibility that he missed it. I will try and run an update this weekend and see if that increases the speed when OpenGL is enabled. I will get back to you on the issue in the next few days.
Thanks for your insight and helpful suggestion.
    Much appreciated.

  • What's the status of Win 7 64 Photoshop CS5 multiple prints?

I notice the thread on this goes back to May 2010 and it is now Feb 2011. The number of copies print setting is mostly ignored and prints just one. Sometimes though the petty little officious bureaucrat that is inside CS5 remembers you asked for 14 copies some time back and instead of printing 1 it now prints 14. It frequently loses the printer portrait vs landscape and has a particular fondness for reseting the paper size to A4 which I have never specified nor owned.
I have a new install of CS5 extended Master Collection on a quad Intel CPU 12gb memory Windows 7 64 bit. Likely irrelevant, th printer is either Samsung ML-2855ND B&W laser,  or Epson 3800 photo printer.
I have all the Windows updates and all the Photoshop CS5 updates.
Any suggestions please -beyond going back to XP and CS3 on another machine?

There is no selectable field within Photoshop CS5 "print settings" that I can see for selecting the number of copies. It displays the number of copies there, yes, but it is not a field that you can change. There is then only one place where # of copies is entered and that is on "Print".
I actually have no problem with printing just one copy since there is on the "File" drop down menu a "Print One Copy" function just beneath "Print".
The seemingly random reset, while still in Photoshop CS5 with Epson 3800 selected, back to A4 paper/portrait/Samsung ML-2855 is annoying but correctable by checking print settings before every print. What I was unable to get consistent was multiple copies when that number was changing between prints. The first time it would consistently ignore 14 and print just one, then it would print 16 instead of 14 where 16 was a number I selected a few prints back. Bizarre.
I have just completed 450 prints and achieved that by "Click, File drop down, Cursor down Click, select Print One Copy, cursor back to top......
This tedious process is physically wretched and has caused some amount of emotion with accompanying language which I won't repeat for fear of upsetting anybody's delicate sensibilities.
Whatever the esoteric reason for this failure that months of work by Adobe's finest have been unable or unwilling to solve, the workaround is simple. The task of repeating a function is accomplished by a FOR or WHILE loop. Take the "Print One Copy" function and NumberCopies thus:
    i = 0;
    for (i=0; i < NumberCopies;) {
        Print One Copy    i++;

  • Photoshop CS5: error when printing to Xerox Phaser 7750

    Mac 10.6.5
I get the following error when I print directly to my Xerox Phaser 7750 from Photoshop CS5:
    "Error: /Library/Printers/Xerox/Filters/pstophaserps failed"
All the other CS5 apps (plus Photoshop CS4) have no trouble printing.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Something doesn't add up since PS CS4 works ok. What's different about CS5? 64bit?
My guess would be that Photoshop is the only app you use that prints PostScript through the Cocoa drivers, and thus the only one hitting that particular part of the driver software.

  • Why does Photoshop CS5 cease working when I try to print a file on my Canon Lasershot LBP7200?

I am using Photoshop CS5 extended with the latest upgrade 12.0.4.0 installed. My OS is Windows 7 with the latest updates installed. When I try to print, e.g., a jpeg file using the print command I get an error message that says Photoshop has stopped working and will be shut down. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both the printer and Photoshop but this makes no difference - the file will still not print in v. 12.0.4.0 and the application crashes.

I thought of something you can try...  Not a very great chance of success, but not too difficult to implement (if a bit geeky)...
Just in case this might be because of recent security changes Adobe has made regarding loading DLLs, it might be interesting to try putting the name of the folder containing the Canon DLLs into your system's PATH.
    1.  You'll need to figure out in what folder CNAP2SMK.DLL resides.  That's not trivial, as Windows normally avoids searching in System folders by default.  Possibly the most reliable way is to start a CMD window As Administrator then type in the following command:
    DIR C:\CNAP2SMK.DLL /S
    2.  The above command may take a long time to run.  Assuming it finally does yield a folder name containing the DLL file and its cousins as installed by the Canon print driver installer, click Start, then right-click Computer, then choose Properties.  Then click Advanced system settings.
    3.  In the System Properties dialog, click the [Environment Variables...] button.
    4.  In the User variables section at the top, you may already have a PATH variable defined.  If so, double-click it.  If not, click the [New...] button and add the PATH variable.  If it already existed, add a semicolon (;) then the folder name you got from step 1.  If the variable is new, just add the folder name.
    5.  OK out, then log off and back onto Windows.
    6.  Do a test print.
    7.  If it doesn't help, you can go through the same steps to remove the folder from the PATH.

  • Photoshop CS5.1 crashes when trying to open Manage Custom Sizes in print window. Help??

I have OS 10.10.2.  When printing and trying to access the "Manage Custom Sizes" in the print window, my Photoshop CS5.1 crashes.  I have not had problems up until now.  Not sure what changed. Can anyone help me figure this out?

A preferences reset should fix it.
Macintosh - CMD-SHIFT-OPTION immediately after you double-click the PS icon.
Release those keys when you see the Delete Photoshop Settings dialog. Click "Yes" to do this.
You may have to go into the CS5 application folder and directly double-click the Photoshop.app there.
