I wasn't clear on my question. I know the system requirements. Terminology in describing devices is making it difficult for me to find the correct machine. My wife's Surface allows me to use her stylus to sketch directly on the screen in Photoshop. No other tools or attachments required. I simply open up photoshop and I can write on the canvas with the stylus. Terms like touchscreen and digitized screen are used so loosely that I can't figure out what other devices, still portable like the Surface but with a larger screen, will actually work the same way. I realize that nothing like I'm describing would be suitable for a brilliant artist but I can't even draw a stick figure on the Dell XPS 18; it ignores the existence of the stylus though Paint pics it up just fine; of course Paint is extremely crude and will not open my Photoshop projects. Nothing about system requirements helps me to figure this out. The system requirements just reveal the minimum requirements needed to run the software. I've turned to this forum because the only solution I can think of is to lean on someone with experience. I can't go out and buy every device out there until one works; eventually the stores would quit letting me return them...

My student has been using Lightroom 4 with Photoshop CS5 on her Mac for well over a year. Because of the difference between the Camera raw version available to her in Photoshop CS5 and the raw process in Lightroom 4, she has been exporting her raw images from Lightroom and choosing the "Render using Lightroom option when it popped up in the dialogue box. She has been doing this for over a year and a half without any problem. Today when she hit Command E no dialogue box appeared and the image just opened in Photoshop. I'm concerned that all of her Lightroom edits are not being rendered to Photoshop. Anyone have an idea as to how we can get the "Render using Lightroom" dialogue back?

It's not possible. Serial numbers are platform specific. Even if you install the CS5 trail version, it won't activate with your PC serial. Your only option is to upgrade to Creative Cloud.

As far as I can tell, the only software items available, are the ones you already mentioned. The HP Print and Scan Doctor, and the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows. So if you are looking to install your printer, I would suggest trying the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows. Close the jpeg in Photoshop! This procedure is done on an unopened (closed) file in the finder, Photoshop is not involved.
Open a FINDER window, click ONCE to select your file (NOT double click to open it)
Command I or in the Finder, File menu, select Get Info.
In the GET INFO window, change the Open With item to Photoshop
Click the CHANGE ALL button, You will get the warning "This change will apply to all Adobe Photoshop CS5.app documents with extension “.jpg”.
Click CONTINUE and from now on all jpegs double clicked in the finder will automatically open in Photoshop

What's the Best Photoshop CS5 Scratch Disk Setup for New MacPro 12 Core?

Hello all...
I'm awaiting delivery of a new MacPro 12 Core with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD drive (Bay1) + 2TB (Bay2) + 2TB (Bay3). Normally I would partition about 60GB of one of the 2TB drives to make an exclusive scratch disk for Photoshop to ensure optimum performance.... with the new spec MacPro and especially the new 512GB SSD, do I still need to do this..?
Any suggestions of comments most welcome... as I want to try to get my new machine set up as best I can before I start copying over my existing data and filling hard drives etc. Photoshop CS5 and Quark Express 8 are my two core apps that I use daily.

How to Have photoshop CS5 shortcuts in one FILE in start menu

Hello everybody
I would like to have in one FOLDER all Photoshop CS5 shortcuts in Start menu, I mean force photoshop setup.exe to do it (not do it manually). I heve been searching for a solution for a long time and never found something usefull.
If anyone can help, that would be much appreciated.

Recommendations for printer/all in one for use with 10.9+? Help!

Does anyone have recommendations for a printer/all-in-one that will work with Mavericks? Monochrome (b&w) laser printer/all-in-one preferred. This is for a small office (5-8 people). Frequent pdf printing and 30+ page documents.
Right now I'm looking at Brother MFC-7860DW (might need something with a larger capacity), Brother MFC-8710DW, Epson WorkForce WF-M1030 (again, may need something w/ larger capacity), and Canon Laser imageCLASS MF4770n or Canon Laser imageCLASS MF4890dw. Also have looked at Canon imageCLASS MF6160dw but reviews are iffy. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Photoshop CS5 unable to open for edits from Lightroom 3

Have been experiencing numerous issue with the new LR and Photoshop not playing nice with each other on my Mac Pro w/10.6. Photoshop CS5 is will open in 1 attempt out of 8, and won't open from LR for editing purposes (it did once). Have been using in 32 bit mode to accommodate NIK and Topaz filters. I have reinstalled three times so far. Anyone got any ideas?

Try deleting the prefs folder for Photoshop. Mine was doing something like this where it would not open the image inside
of CS5 when you right click on the image and try an "open with". But it would work from the menu, most of the time. The cost is having to recreate custom settings inside Photoshop but since my CS5 was a new install as was LR3, it did not matter to me. It did require a reboot for the new preference file to fully take effect.
From Adobe's own workaround
5. Re-create the Photoshop preferences files.
Re-create the Photoshop preferences file to eliminate problems that a damaged preferences file might cause.
Note: Re-creating the Photoshop preferences file restores settings to their defaults.
To re-create the Photoshop preferences file:
Quit Photoshop.
Rename the Users\[username]\Library\Preferences\Adobe Photoshop CS3 Settings\Adobe Photoshop CS3 Prefs.psp folder to Adobe Photoshop CS3 Prefs.old.
Start Photoshop. Photoshop creates a new Adobe Photoshop CS3 Prefs.psp file.
If the problem continues, then the Photoshop preferences file isn't the cause. To restore custom settings, quit Photoshop, then delete the new Adobe Photoshop CS3 Prefs.psp file and restore the original name of the previous Adobe Photoshop CS3 Prefs.psp

I am trying to set up my MacBook to a wireless printer Epson All in One XP-600 on my home wireless network. I need to find a driver that will work with system OS 10.4.11. Without the driver when I print the printer keeps printing page after page with some type of code starting with: %!PS-Adobe-3.0 %RBINumCopies: 1 %%Pages: (atend) %APL_DSC_Encoding:UTF8. My MacBook Pro running system OS X 10.5.8 works fine, beause I was able to install a compatible driver.

Photoshop CS5 all menus grayed out

Photoshop file after working on image all the menus go grayed out. Able to save file but can not select any menus. After you save the image quit and then reopen file works fine. This has happened 5 times today.
Tried the file in CS3 Photoshop and have not had this problem

Yes, Sam, it wouldn't matter if your laptop were only two weeks old, laptops always use very slow hard drives to reduce both power consumption and heat, that's just one of the tradeoffs you make when you choose a laptop instead of a desktop.
What should you be looking to upgrade to? Well, there does happen to be a high-spead option for laptops today that was not available when you got your laptop a couple of years ago: solid state drives (SSD), which are now an option (albeit expensive) in MacBook Pros. They are amazingly fast.

Can I download and use CS5 as part of my photography subscription? I have tried CC and CS6 and both crash very often on my computer and work much slower. For comparison when I tried CS5 it worked perfectly. For now I am most interested in a version that is stable even if it's older, so what are my options? I have looked for subsrcitpion for CS5 but it seems it's not longer available. What can I do?

My OS is Windows 7, 32-bit. CC crashes when saving to jpg, when saving psd file bigger than 300MB, when turning on liquify, when file has more layers and many other times, I have already lost hours of work. Generally when CC is starting and when it is saving it lasts twice longer compared to CS5.
Yes I have installed all updates. I also reinstalled CC, changed my graphic card driver, changed PS preferences, but nothing seems to work. I have searched and found that some people have similar problems with this version and most of them wasn't able to fix the problem, same as in the thread I mentioned.
So I am focused now on getting CS5, what are my options with subscription?

Photoshop CS5 keeps asking me for serial

I have a subscription version of CS5. I had a problem when got my credit cards replaced, the payment did not process and photoshop stopped working. I logged onto Adobe and changed the details and it processed my payment. Now every time I launch photoshop Application Manager launches and asks for the serial number, which it accepts but then photoshop never opens. If I uninstall and reinstall it works but the next time I try and launch it does the same thing. I have plugins which get disabled when I reinstall, I can't do that every time I start photoshop anyways! I am told by the online helper people in India to call during business hours, but that's no good when I am at work and am not in front of my Mac.

ALL about fps for DUMMIES

I am new to the world of final cut suite/pro ... is there a recommended book to learn about frames per second etc... you know the basics of video.... i.e what is written below? I am interested in getting an HMC40 panasonic... I would like to eventually do weddings and some painting with light stuff.... this is kind of in my price range... unless you have any other ideas for a camera for me?
1080i60 is NOT 60fps. It is 29.97fps. There is a HUGE confusion about this because of the naming convention. When you see an "i" before the number, it indicates INTERLACED, and therefore FIELDS per second. So 1080i60 is 60 FIELDS per second, and two fields make a frame, so that means that it is 30fps running at 29.97. It doesn't matter that it is saying 59.94...that again is a bad naming convention. it is 29.97. When you have a "p" in front of the number it means PROGRESSIVE, or FULL FRAMES...so 720p60 is 60 PROGRESSIVE frames...60 full frames per second.

I'm actually going to do a series of training DVD's next year because the deal is just too sweet to pass up, and I don't have to shoot/edit them either. I love that.
But gotta say, that last chapter 13 in that book will teach you a thing or two. In fact I think you could actually do that book in FCP 7 and it still would work OK. My mistake with it is having you repeat what I edited exactly by timecode. But hey, you'll learn to type it fast.
That said, you'd do yourself a big favor if you took the pro training classes near you if you have them available. It will save you months of trying to teach yourself.
This stuff isn't learned overnight, and it's getting worse I think. LOL... I remember the days of 9 tape formats and thought THAT was too many. How many codecs/frame rates/sizes are there now? I don't even want to think about it... It's plain stupid if you ask me. I want someone like RED to win, then we just deliver to h.264 flavors and consumers get something like AVCHD and that's the end of it. Course I want all the different frame rates but that's it man... Yeah, I know, a pipe dream.

Hi Anne,
I understand you're wanting to use your Deskjet 3510 printer with your Mac that has the 10.4.11 operating system. I will certainly do my best to guide you in this.
I did quite a bit of research to see if there was any way to make the Deskjet 3510 work with 10.4 and in the end I have concluded that the two are not compatible with one another. There is no HP software available for the Deskjet 3510 for anything below Mac 10.6 and the Apple Update software would be much too new for your 10.4 system and won't work that way either.
At this point you would either need to upgrade your Mac operating system to 10.6 or higher, or do your best in finding an older printer that would work with 10.4 (such as the Officejet 4500).
I am sorry I wasn't able to find a way to get this to work for you but I hope the information I've provided will assist you in finding something that works for you! I hope you have a great weekend!
