Photoshop CS5 - changes in "baseline shift"

When opening old Photoshop CS2 projects in Photoshop CS5, everything looks as it did before.  But for about 75% of the text, the "baseline shift" field now has a value other than zero.  It seems like I will need to set my "baseline shift" of the affected text back to zero then reposition the text.  I would just prefer the "baseline shift" to be set to zero, as I am know I did not adjust this value.
Is it possible that the "baseline shift" value is something other than zero for certain fonts and I just never noticed that the value was not zero before?  Or is this an issue of opening a CS2 Photoshop project in CS5?
Thanks,
Angela

Hunt,
I did some more investigating.  First, can you let me know in Photoshop CS2 if the "baseline shift" value is automatically set to zero when inserting text?  Or, if some fonts have the "baseline shift" automatically set to zero while others are automatically set to a non-zero value?
For my issue, it looks like the value of the baseline shift is directly related to the resolution of the project.  For both TTF and OTF fonts, the following was found:
1. For projects with resolution of 72 pixels/inch (my DVD menus which have D1/DV NTSC aspect ratio setting), text has a baseline shift of -3.27pt
2. For projects with resolution of 150 pixesl/inch (my CD and DVD labels), text has a baseline shift of -8.33pt
3. For projects with resolution of 500 pixels/inch (my DVD cases), text has a baseline shift of -2.5pt
The only exception is the text created on a circular path.  The baseline shift of this text was always zero.
Is this works-as-designed and something I just did not notice before?  Or is this something that happened as a result of opening a CS2 Photoshop project in CS5?
Thanks so much,
Angela

  • Photoshop CS5 changes the keyboard language to Thai

So the problem is that very often the keyboard language is changed to Thai, but only inside Photoshop. Anywhere else in Windows I can still type in Latin alphabet. It seems to come completely randomly - I use my regular shortcuts and keys when I'm working, and suddenly I notice that any shortcut to any tool is not working anymore so I check by opening the text tool and can only write in Thai alphabet. Even when saving the file it only inputs Thai.
It's very irritating since right now I have only moved the problem a bit by restarting Photoshop, so when working with huge files it takes some time to save and load again.
I don't recall whether I ever even changed my Windows language to Thai on this PC since I don't even have the language bar visible, but Thai is regularly being used on my laptop - don't know how Photoshop would get it from there so probably just a funny coincidence.

Photoshop can't change the keyboard mapping:  it has no such code or capability.
But you may have accidentally set something in the OS to automatically change the keyboard layout when in Photoshop.

  • Photoshop cs5 changes size automatically

Greetings.  Im haivng a stupid problem with this program (cs5).  Im trying to make a file  20" X 34.125", and NO MATTER what i do, it automatically changes the size to 20" X 34.127".  I have no idea how to stop it from doing this, and help would be appreciated.
    craig.

You are trying to create a file with a one/eighth inch increment. PPI means pixels per inch. 300 ppi is not divisible by eight so PSD is extrapolating to the closest mutiple of eight. To be sure that files using measurements if 1/8 inch do not change size use a setting that is a multple of eight. (I recommend using 288 ppi for a variety of reasons.)

  • Adobe Photoshop CS5 Change Mode

While working in 16bit mode, changing to 8 bit and back to 16 bit again; will this destroy the original 16 bit data?

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    Chris Cox wrote:
3 of those are probably never going to work in 32 bit, and would be really slow in 16 bit.
I don't mean to beat up on you, but you are really not getting it are you, Chris?  If the user can work around the problem by hand, then you could code the workaround into the product.
Even though I don't buy your "it has to be slow if run on 16 bit data" argument...
Considering the requested Texture filters, you would be 99% of the way there if you would just make them directly work on 16 bit data by just using only 8 bits of significance under the covers.  Even if the result was written back to the 16 bit image quantized into 256 discrete values the ease of use of the product would be increased and the conversion could hardly add excessive time (no more time than running Image - Mode - 8 Bit and Image - Mode - 16 Bit in succession).
Think about it for a moment...
These are creative filters designed to do huge "damage" to the values of individual pixels.  Why would it be important for that to be done with 16 bit accuracy?  And if you are adamant that they need 16 bit accuracy, some parts could be left 8 bit (as described above) to keep that all important speed up.  For example, average the colors and brightnesses in 8 bits in the Stained Glass function, then just paint the gradients in 16 bits (better still, have OpenGL do it).
And just imagine that users might do something like Edit - Fade - 10%, which would yield the effect lightly rendered on - drum roll - 16 bit data.  Or they could even use layers!
And regarding your allergy to "slow" operation...  You could write the Texture filters as web apps that send each individual pixel to India to be hand painted and they STILL wouldn't be as slow as Content Aware Fill, Liquify, or Lens Blur.

  • Photoshop CS5 - InDesign CS3 conflict?

I want to upgrade Photoshop CS4 to CS5, but am concerned by a report on the Luminous Landscape Forum where a member claims that installing PS CS5 made his InDesign CS3 unusable. He says, " The Photoshop CS5 changes some core type files in the Common Files >  Adobe diectories, which totally prevent Indesign from even starting."
The LL forum discussion is at http://luminous-landscape.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=43396
Has anyone else seen similar reports or had this experience?  I am working on a project now where I'm required to use InDesign CS3 (and not a later version), so can't take a chance that the new Photoshop will screw things up with ID3.

Not that Mac users need any more reasons to think they have a better OS, but apparently the problem is with some Windows configurations. : )
I asked the same question on the InDesign forum and an expert there was able to both replicate the problem and offer a probable solution.

You didn't mention your OS. I just installed the trial on my XP test station and did in fact get an AMT Subsystem Failure -- You Must Reinstall warning, and ID CS3 closed.
I downloaded and ran the Flexnet patch from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=3750&fileID=3528 and all is well.
I don't know what all this patch does, since ostensibly it is a reapir for Acrobat 8 running on Vista, but if memeory serves it's been reliable for fixing that particular error on all versions of Windows with any version of Acrobat.

  • Photoshop CS5 does not want to open after I changed the scratch disks in prefs

I was working on a large document in Photoshop CS5 that ate too much of my main drive (to the point I had to quite and restart a few times to clear it out) when the main drive was set as a scratch disk. I went in to preferences and changed the scratch disk to my secondary internal drive, where I keep all my media. Then quit Photoshop to clear the cache.
When I tried to open Photoshop again I get a message at start up (haven't gotten in to the program yet) saying: "Could not open a scratch file because the disk is not available". Clicked OK. Then another warning message: "Could not initialize Photoshop because the disk is not available."
Both disks are mounted and available. Since Photoshop never actually opens up I cannot go in and reset the scratch disk to my intinital settings.
Anybody got an idea what I can do to solve this?
    Thanks,
    /Fred

Worst case: trashing prefs by keeping ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop (and then using the dialog) should allow you to open it.

  • If Ctrl+Alt+Shift buttons not working to reset your adobe photoshop cs5.1 preference to default

How to reset Photoshop preferences (In Windows):
First, hold down all three Ctrl+Alt+Shift buttons
Now "while keeping those button held," simply open Photoshop or a file that opens with Photoshop
As Photoshop loads, you should get a prompt asking if you would like to "delete the Photoshop settings file", Click yes
You should now have a fresh slate with all of the settings returned to their default.
Its strange some keyboard cannot reset photoshop after  you press  Ctrl + Alt + Shift buttons.
And its no pop up to confirm delete
At finally i found the problems is type of my keyboard not compatible with photoshop
i changed my old keyboard immediately and its works!!

  • Photoshop CS5 Colour changes toggling screen modes

    Hi.
I have recently started encountering a problem with a colour shift in Photoshop CS5 when toggling between screen modes (Full screen and normal window) My setup is a mid-2010 MacBook Pro with an Eizo CG243W Connected to the display port. Both screens are calibrated. While using the MacBook Pro as a seconddary display, the image on the external Eizo changes colour depending on which screen mode I set in PS. In normal Window mode the colours appear correct, but changing to Fullscreen alters the colours (They become a lot more muted and move towards a yellow/green tint) Trying the same on the MacBook Pro screen (with the Eizo connected) produces the opposite result, in normal window mode the colours become over saturated (a vivid red tint), but in full screen mode appear normal.
This started happening after upgrading to OSX 10.8.3 (From OSX 10.6.x) I have tried various suggested workarouds (such as altering OpenGL settings in PS) to no avail. I therefore humbly ask this community for any advice or suggestions you might have.

That can be a good workaround, but be aware that some things won't work...  For example, you won't be able to see a preview of your brush hardness using the Alt-right mouse button brush gestures.  And of course zoom won't be smooth, and pans won't flip with inertia (big whoop).  If you have Extended you may not find the 3D features as usable.
What I'd do if I were you is do some searches for people using your specific video card and see if any of them have found any older drivers that work better.  Then bug nVidia to fix their drivers.
Alternatively, a really fine video card with huge speed and memory can be had nowadays for a hundred bucks.

  • Color change on exporting from lightroom and saving in Photoshop CS5

I have been having issues with my pictures with color management.    I have Lightroom 4 and Photoshop CS5.  I thought over the last 2 years that it was just me.   I have bought a Eizo monitor with a hood, calibrate with a i1display pro, painted my walls gray, updated my strobes from alien bees to elinchrome bxri's.   Updated my sekonic meter to a L 758.   Have done custom white balance with gray card, expodisc, xrite kits.   The problem has been over the years when I work on a picture in lightroom and export it as jpeg or adobe rgb it gets saved to my external hardrive and the colors are really bad !!   You can go back and compare the picture in lightroom to the picture on my iomega external drive and there is a significant difference.   I do some animal photography and I had a dog that had brown fur and when I export it out of lightroom the dogs fur is actually a bright very orange color.  Same thing happens with skin tones.     When I import the photos into lightroom the pictures look ok.       The same thing is happening when I go from lightroom to photoshop the picture color looks good but when I go to File-save as - tiff or jpeg the colors are changing.   It does not matter what color space I am in I have tried them all it is still happening.    If anyone has any insight that would be great.
    Teresa

Thanks everyone for the help.   I have only been doing photography for about 2 years and the color managment part has been my hardest thing to get right.   My monitor ColorEdge CG243W LCD.   Wide color gamut of 98%.  Has a sensor on front of monitor that detects ambient brightness but this will only work if you are in a custom color mode.  Modes are: custom,  sRGB,DCI,EBU, Cal1.   I use the Cal 1 to be able to use the Colornavigator software that came with the monitor.  You also have to be in custom color mode to be able to manually adjust brightness, contrast, temperature on the monitr itself which I do not use because I use the Cal 1 mode.   I was not sure about the digital input signals.   I am on the DVI-I in which this allows digital signal input and analog signal input.    There is a DVI-D mode that allows only digital input only.    Also did not know if I needed to be concerned about setting the frequency that corresponds to the grahic board in the monitor ?    My bandwith was set to normal and now is on wide.   My digital input is for 1920x1200 resolution.   Appicable signal is Vesa CVT RB.  Frequency is 60 Hz.   Yes I did call Eizo twice last year when I got my monitor and did not get very far.     I have also called and spoke to a color specialist at my lab and told him the problems I have been having and he just told me to leave everything in sRGB.   Well I would like to get the most from my monitor's color gamut and when working on my pictures so that is why I am still determined to get this figured out.
I use the i1 Dislpay Pro hardware to calibrate with and the ColorNavigator software.     When calibrating.   I go to create a new target---select enter manually--Gamut ( monitor native--states recommended)--Brightness 100cd---White point (6500k)--set black level (recommemded states mininum 0.2)---gamma 2.20---priority (set automatically to standard, this adjusts gray balance while maintaining the contrast)---then I hit calibrate and it goes through the process.   The results I get are:                                            Target                                               Result
                          Brightness                                        100cd                                              99.9cd

                          White Point                                    6500k                                              6501k

  • Changes to Photoshop CS5 and Applescript

Looks like there are some major Applescript changes to CS5, which is unwelcome for anyone with existing scripts. From what I can see, the difference (that affect me anyway) are
    a) PSCS5 seems to dislike referring to files with "as alias" and removing this from my scripts helps them to work, whereas other apps need it, as did previous
    b) apparently script support for referring to the currently document has changed. "if visible layer of current document is true then..." no longer works, nor do document 0, document 1, etc. Anyone know how to refer to the current document?
    c) support for history doesn't seem to be there anymore. I cannot seem to use AS commands like, "set myState to history states as list" or "set current history state to history state newState" were awesome for my workflow, but are they impossible to achieve now?
    d) One more. The important "set docref to make new document with properties {height: 150, width: 150}" is also broken. How would one make a new document in Applescript?
I'd appreciate any help you could give me in updating my scripts

I just found the AppleScript documentation in /Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS5/Scripting/Documents/. But I don't think it's even accurate. Here's a very simple sample they give:
    tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS5"
         filter current layer of the current document using lens blur with options {class:lens blur, radius:13}
    end tell
If I enter this in AppleScript Editor and try to compile it, it selects the word "current" and tells me "Expected end of line but found identifier." It doesn't even recognize "filter" as a command. If I just change that 5 to a 4, it works fine in CS4.
Here's one way to run a JavaScript file from AppleScript:
tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS5" to open file "Path:to:file.jsx"
Of course there's no way to pass any arguments this way, so that greatly limits its usefulness. But perhaps this will be helpful to some people. I'm assuming the JavaScript stuff all works fine, as that seems to be their focus these days.
The really strange thing is that certain things seem to work fine in AppleScripts that are already compiled (using CS4). But if I try to re-save those scripts with CS5 installed, I get errors.

  • When opening a 6x4 landscape orientation raw (.dng) file in Photoshop CS5, it will automatically crop to a 4x6 orientation.  How can I change this?  I did not have this problem before now.

I need to know how to correct this so it doesn't automatically change the orientation.

That's new to me. I usually use the standalone dng converter to convert any raws to dng. Then I can open in Photoshop. Since I have never had this problem, the best I can do is to get you close to a fix if I don't have an exact answer. There is also a Camera Raw forum that can better advise you.

Since I'm most experienced in Photoshop, I can only hand out stock troubleshooting that would just miss the problem. Photoshop CS5 does host ACR. Is this happening when you open the dng in ACR from Lightroom, and not after you open the dng from ACR into Photoshop?
Finally when a dialog box isn't working correctly. It's the Alt key on your keyboard that would change the Cancel button into Reset in ACR. It might not work if you are using a Bluetooth keyboard. (My screen capture keys won't let me show the Reset button)
So try that and if it fails, check out the other forums. If no one else joins this thread, I should tell you I"m out of ideas, can't seem to locate an answer, and I don't want to hold you up.

  • I lose changes in the details when i open my photos from camera raw 7.0 to photoshop cs5, why?

I lose changes that I made with the tools in the "Details" section, just right after I open my photos from camera raw 7.0 to photoshop cs5, why?   The changes that I made with the tools in the "Basic" section remain.

First, how and why are you using Camera Raw 7.0 with CS5?
ACR 7.x requires CS6 to run.
Even if that's a typo in your post and you are running CS6 instead of CS5, no one should be running ACR 7.0, but ACR 8.4 —or at the very least 7.4.
Once any given camera model is supported by a version of ACR, it will continue to be supported in all subsequent versions of ACR.  Each update to ACR has unannounced, unheralded bug fixes and improvements.  Running 7.0 at this point is sheer madness.
    Please clarify.
If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand, such as your platform (Mac or Win), exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop and of Bridge, machine specs, what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far, what error message(s) you receive, if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them, etc., someone may be able to help you.
