Photoshop CS5 Color Replacement Tool Not Replacing White

I am trying to remove some sparkling from hair in an image.  I am attempting to use the Color Replacement Tool.  However, I am not having success, and I don't know why.
The hair is a dark greenish color, which I used the eyedropper to sample as the foreground color.  Although, in practice, it doesn't matter what color I pick.
My understanding is that you set the color you want as the foreground color.  Then, on the color replacement tool, you set the cross hairs on the color you want to have replaced (in this case, the white specks, since I want t turn the white into green).
What happens instead is that the hair changes color, but the white specs remain.
I have tried the different sampling approaches (Continuous, Sampling Once, Swatch), but no effect.  My mode is color, and other modes have made no difference.  Limits are Continuous, and Tolerance has run the gamut from 5% to 90%.
What the heck am I doing wrong?
Sample attached.
Thanks,
Steve

In my opinion Image > Adjustments > Relpace Color and Color Replacement Tool are basically worthless for professional work.
But I wonder if you mix the two up.
And, if I understand correctly, they are intended to change the Color while leaving Luminance unaffected, so they would not seem ti provide your intended results.

  • Photoshop CS5 Refine Radius tool not working

Hi, I'm following along the Classroom in a Book CS5 Photoshop book and when I try to use the Refine Radius tool in the Refine Mask dialog box and try to paint with it to refine the edges of the black hair model, the paint strokes do not hold. The painting works but then the action is basically undone. Followed all the instructions to a T, but saw the same problem when I tried it on another photography yesterday too.
Any tips as what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks but no. It's not the spacebar. The handtool works fine in Illustrator

  • Photoshop CS5.5 type tool not working after OS X 10.7.3 update

    Hi All
    Weird one ...
The first thing I noticed was that I could not use the type tool to create 'live' text on a layer. With the type tool selected I get the following error message when clicking to begin typing:
"Could not complete your request because of a programme error."
I quit Photoshop then attempted to launch the application by opening the file. The application opened but the file wouldn't, giving the same error message.
I quite Photoshop again and relaunched the application from the Dock. The applicatiuion opens fine but displays the same error message (before I have attempted to open a file).
With a file open I checked the type palette, where the dafault typeface is shown as Myriad Pro, but the default settings are:
    Type size: 1pt
    Linefeed (leading): 1pt
    Kerning: 1
    Tracking 1
    Type height: 0%
    Type width: 0%
    Baseline shift: 0
    Colour: black
    Language: multiple
    Type quality: none
Some odd settings there. The type tool bar (at the top of my display) has blank fields. Typing desired values into any of these fields doesn’t resolver the issue.
I have tried restarting, creating a new file but to no avail. The type tools in Illustrator and InDesign are working as expected, so it would appear to be a Photoshop problem and I’m stumped ... any ideas?
    Thanks in advance

  • Photoshop CS5.1 Extended: Could not complete your request because there are too many Files Open

I saved a file last night and now this morning I get an error message stating: "Photoshop CS5.1 Extended: Could not complete your request because there are too many Files Open. Try closing some windows and try again.". I've rebooted the system and made sure Photoshop was the only program running and that there were no other files open prior to trying to open my file. I increased Photoshops ram usage, checked the OpenGL settings, 3D and VRAM settings, cleared my temp files and am at a loss for opening this file.
    System Specs:
    Win 7 64
    6 core I7 processor
    32gb Ram
    3GB VRAM
600gb free space on 7200 rpm drive
    File specs:
1 3D object replicated maybe 5 times (yes, I should have rasterized them, and will do that to 4 of them if I get the file open)
    Maybe 8 textures
Not sure how many total layers.
Is there anyway to get Photoshop to reopen this file?

No, more VRAM is useless. I had the same thought as you so I tried with a friend's computer with 3GB of VRAM for 8GB RAM (mine has 1GB VRAM for 16GB RAM). Still got the same error message. Sorry guys but our files are lost until Adobe fix the error in Photoshop code. I hope in the future they will find a way to either fix this error or give a clear limitation, it is really a shame such a dangerous problem exists and persists for more than 3 photoshop gen.
Still you may be able to have at least a flat image of your latest file by trying to open the file as smart object. I started my work over by doing that. Not a lot but better than nothing.
However for my new file I am trying something different : Each time I think a 3D file is final, I do not rasterize it but make it into a smart object and save the new smart object into a single separated .psd file. If any change is needed I can still edit all of my 3D objects by opening them separately. So far it works, the global file is lighter with few to no 3D objects inside but I will not say it is a 100% no-risk method yet.
Last advice I can give everyone : Before closing the file you are working on, save it as a copy (File / Save as... and check 'As copy' in the options below) then with your main file still open, try to open the copy. You may need a lot of memory if your file is heavy but still if the dreaded error message appears when you try to open the copy then remove or rasterize some 3D objects in your main one. Save again as copy and try to open the copy until you do not get the message anymore.

  • Color replacement tool not working

    My name is Sami,
Im in photoshop and i drew my own pictures and scanned them and put them into photoshop. When i am using the color replacement tool it doesn't replace any color. I just want to make some highlights and darken certain areas but it won't do anything. HELP!

We can't know. We know nothing about your system, your images, your version of PS. and well, using the color replacement tool is usually the worst imaginable way to tweak colors...

  • Colour replacement tool not working

I have a jpeg file loaded into Photoshop CS6. This is a black logo on a white background. The colour replacement tool has no effect on this (I want to change the black to another colour)
I have read somewhere that the tool doesnt work with black and white? is that correct and if so, how do i get the colour changed
    Thanks
    Chris Anderson

    Hi Cjacs,
You may try using blending modes to achieve your desired result. Starting with a black and white logo:
    1) Create a new fill layer by going to Layer > New Fill Layer > Solid Color.
    2) At the first dialog box, click OK. Then choose the color you want the artwork to be.
    3) You logo artwork will then be hidden, but don't worry! We'll using blending modes to change this.
    4) In the Layers Panel, look for the area where it says "Normal." This is where you change the blend mode. Open this dropdown menu and select Screen.
    5) Your artwork will then be changed to the color you chose before.
I hope this was helpful! Please don't hesitate to ask more questions if this did not solve your issue.

  • Colour replacer tool not working...

I need to recoolour the gold text so its white.
If I select it its not really very good.
I thought about using the colour replacer tool but it goes gray.
How can I make it go white?
Or, should I be looking for a different method?
    Many thanks
    Edward

    Hi
I can wrote you one of a ways how to select only text from that image and colorize it as you want.
    1. press CTRL+J (or cmd+j if you are using MAC) this will duplicate your actual layer
    2. press CTRL+SHIFT+U for desaturate the image or in main menu  - Image/Adjustmets/Desaturate
    3. press CTRL+M for editing curves or Image/Adjustments/Curves - and move horizontaly with dots showed on graph to get the most contrast image with still soft edges
    4. Now switch to your Chanels tab, if you don't have it displayed you can do this in Window/Chanels
         - then just ctrl+click to chanel layer image to get selection of white color
         - Tip for the future use, If you are working with more complex images with a lot of shades of grey turn off RGB layer, and two other layers to gen only 2 colours palete, choose one you like the most and then width ctrl+click on layer thumbnail you get this selection (somenimes is needed to invert selection ... if you are selecting dark tones)
    5. Switch back to layers and create a new layer, fill the selection on that new layer and you have text on it's own layer where you can do whatever you want, for example change colour.
because you want to have a white you're probably done
    Hope this helped

  • My Photoshop CS5 color shifts where CS3 does not...

I've been having problems with my current version of Photoshop (CS5) and its "save for web and devices" option. All photos saved for web are significantly color-shifted - more contrasty in some cases, but oddly washed out in others. I've tried altering settings in the "saved for web" feature to no avail.
Even stranger, to my mind, the compressed photos only display the shifted colors when sent through email or posted on-line - not when looking at them in photoshop.
By chance, I recently had to "save for web" some photos using my laptop's CS3 - and here's the rub - they were perfect. No color shift whatsoever.  What's more, the settings for my CS3 "save for web" are identical to the CS5 settings.  I'm completely flummoxed now, and have taken to transferring photo I need saved for web to my laptop and using the CS3, but this still seems like madness to me.
I know this is a long shot, and of course there are too many variables to be accounted for, but has anyone encountered a color-shift problem with CS5 in partcular? One that does not appear in CS3?
Maybe I should completely reinstall my CS5 and see what happens.
    sigh.

Compare what you have in edit >> color settings
then also in save for web >> preview
Most major web browsers now recognize color  profiles which is good so mac & pc look alike, btu you may be viewing without profiles depending on what else you are using to view your images.

  • Color change tool not working properly

    I am running Photoshop CS5.
Now when I try to replace color, these are my steps
    color replacement tool
    mode: color
    sampling: continuous
    limits: find edges
    tolerance: 33%
    anti-alias: selected
I pick my color that I want to replace. If it is a green, or a blue, it will replace the color, but it replace with a neon color instead of the color that i pick.
If i use a white or a black, it will not replace the color at all.
Any ideas how to fix the problem?
    Thanks in advance

Any ideas how to fix the problem?
Plain and simple: Learn how to work with selections and then use adjustments or e.g. the paint bucket tool. You are fundamentally misunderstanding how the tool works. All of what you see is as it should be - based on your settings it retains luminance and just replace the color info which explains why black and white don't respond (as there is no color) and how substituting a color while retaining the luminance would yield an unexpected visual result. Again, your approach is wrong, not the tool.

  • Photoshop CS5 Clone Stamp Tool option-click just stopped working, why?

I've been using clone stamp tool option-click (healing brush  option-click also) on Photoshop CS5 on my Mac 10.6.5 and it stopped  working suddenly on Monday.  Had just used it on Sunday.  So, I've tried  to isolate the problem.
    1. Went to Apple store and my keyboard and  mouse work fine on their inhouse systems running Photosochop CS5.   Problem still exists on home system.
    2. Adobe photoshop suggested I go back to Mac 10.6.3.  I did and problem still exits.
    3. Reset all presets in CS5.  Problem still exists.
    4.  Spent several hours with Adobe Photoshop tech on phone -- he couldn't  make it work remotely either using his keyboard.  Reloaded Photoshop  from scratch.  Problem still exists.
    Question:
Could this be a hardware problem?  Graphic board problem?
Or is this a software problem aside from Mac OS and CS5?

    Hi Joan
It sounds like you are not having fun at all : )
    >I talked with a for fee Mac guru today who says I need to wipe slate clean and install operating system from scratch since I did not use time machine.
.....you ever notice how easy it is for a consultant to tell you what to do when they don't have to do it?
..... I wonder why the guru thought your system was gone if your new user account was working?
If your new user account is working.... why not use it?  The system seems fine but something went screwy with the settings in your original account.
hopefully someone else will chime in here with more insight before you start from scratch.

  • Photoshop CS5 Color Management

My question has a complicated back story, but here is where I'm at.  I'm still a newby when it comes to color management.  I'm running Photoshop CS5, Lightroom 3.3, Windows 7 64-bit, Dell Studio XPS desktop, and a new Dell U2311H monitor.  I really struggled several months ago trying to learn color management and Photoshop printing work flow, and may have made an error during that process that created my situation.  When I attach a new monitor (or different monitor), all of my images in Bridge, Photoshop, and Lightroom display with a strong pink/magenta cast.  Images displayed by applications that are not color managed look normal.  Once I calibrate the new/different monitor (with Spyder2Express), and reboot, the color managed images display normally.  If I go to the Control Panel, and assign another profile (such as sRGB IEC61966-2.1) as the default profile for the monitor, all images continue to display normally.  If I go to the Control Panel, and disassociate ALL profiles from the monitor, the images displayed by Bridge, Photoshop and Lightroom again display with a strong pink/magenta cast.
If no profile has been assigned to the monitor on which Photoshop is going to display an image, what does Photoshop do that might result in a pink/magenta image?  Might I have a corrupted profile somewhere, or might I have miscoded something in Color Management that is causing the condition?  If I need to provide some additiional info, please let me know what info is needed.
    Thanks for any assistance..

Andrew, thanks so much for taking the time to respond.  I believe I found
and corrected my problem last night.  When I attempted to do my own printing
from Photoshop last summer, I experimented a lot as I tried to figure out
the work flow.  I discovered last night that I had apparently introduced an
error into the Monitor Color settings under Color Settings.  The RBG Work
Space under Monitor Color was set to "Monitor RBG - xxxxx", where xxxxx was
the profile for the Epson paper I was experimenting with last summer!  I
suspect that Protoshop was using that profile when I didn't provide any
other profile for the display.  I changed that setting to "Monitor RBG -
sRBG", and my problem (the strong magenta casts when displaying images
without profiling the monitor) is gone.
I have been using the Spyder2Express for the past couple of years, and
usually work with a monitor I have previously calibrated with the Spyder.
This magenta problem only showed up when I switched to a new monitor, and
displayed images before running the first calibration.  I wanted to resolve
the magenta problem, however, to determine whether it might be connected to
two other problems I have involving color management.  The first was my
attempt last summer to print on a "hand me down" Epson 2200 printer.  I
finally got the work flow figured out, but was never able to eliminate a
slight magenta cast from some of my prints.  I tried printing from three
computers, using two operating systems, downloaded the 2200 driver and paper
profiles numerous times, printed on two different Epson papers, printed test
prints of the same image on two other printers (without the slight magenta
cast).  I've given up on the 2200 for now!
My latest concern, which really prompted my renewed interest in color
management, is my latest monitor calibration.  I just purchased a Dell
U2311H, and calibrated it with the Spyder2Express.  At the end of the
calibration/profiling process, the Spyder provides a before/after view.
With other monitors, I've always felt that the calibration/profiling process
improved the test image.  With the Dell U2311H, however, it appears to my
eyes that the "before" image looks super, while the "after" image appears to
have a yellowish, or yellowish-green, cast, and the after image is also
"lighter", giving the image a bit of a "washed out" look.
Any suggestions on what I might try next?
Thanks again for your help, Andrew.  By the way, I read the two articles you
sent links for.  I especially enjoyed the article on matching display and
prints.  I'll keep rereading that one until it all soaks in!

  • Photoshop CS5 64 bit tools window, why Crop tool disappeared from tools window?

I am using the above version of Photoshop in windows 7 64 bit.  A few week ago the crop tool just disappeared from the Tools window.  The crop tool is just below move tool and just above the rectangular marquis tool.  I have been using various versions of photoshop for over 15 years and have never had a tool disappear from the preset tools window.  Does anyone have any idea how to restore the crop tool to it's original location?  I have tried the help file, and I guess I don't know how to phrase the question properly to get any useful answers.  Also, is there any way to add additional tools to the tools window?  This windows installation is on a computer that is usually not conected to the internet for security reasons.  If anyone has a solution, an email to [email protected] would really be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jeff Warren1983

I suspect the crop tool is not missing but just not selected. In cs4/cs5 the crop tool is grouped with the slice tools in the toolbox, much
like older versions such as ps4 had the crop tool grouped with the marquee selection tools in the toolbox.
Location of all the tools in the cs5 toolbox:

I don't think you can add any tools that aren't already there, but you can use configurator to make your own panel having
the tools arranged the way you see fit.
