Photoshop CS5 does not recognize many AVI codecs

I'm extensively using my Win7 PS-CS5 for automated rotoscoping of AVI video, but I have been frustrated by its skimpy support for AVI export codecs. My other video applications, including cheap ones, give me so many codec options not recognized by CS5. What does PS offer? Cinepak, 3 flavors of DV, and "None." This is pretty outrageous, wouldn't you agree? In particular, I would like to be using Lagarith, but I certainly wouldn't mind picking up support for eight or nine other choices. Is there any solution?

Thanks for your quick reply, although I assure you this is dismaying to hear.
I don't know how to say this without sounding sarcastic (not my intention) but can't we inform Marketing that truth-in-advertising principles suggest the application be described as having "limited" AVI support? In a related question, does Adobe have a protocol for accepting feature requests (eg, "genuine AVI support")?
I have a tricky pipeline for rotoscoping and I am afraid this situation may complicate things. In any event, my final file must be in AVI format.
However, if I can wrap my head around migrating to QuickTime for the first time in my life, maybe not all is lost. Doesn't the QT Animation codec have a good reputation for being nonlossy, good with small-color palette videos, and supporting alpha?

  • Bridge in CS5 does not recognize card reader

Help!  Suddenly, my Bridge in Photoshop CS5 does not recognize my card reader.  I have a HP Pavilion Elite HPE that has the card readers (for 15 different cards) built into it and all of a sudden it will not recognize the card reader drive.  I have uninstalled CS5 and re-installed it thinking that if the path had been broken that it would be reestablished by the reinstallation, but that did not happen.  I have checked the device manager on my HP and it tells tme that this drive is working correctly, but however, it is not evidently working correctly. Has anyone else had this happen to them and if so, what was the solution?  I have an e-mail to HP for tech support, but have not heard from them as of yet. Thank you in advance for your input.

You want to at least choose the 1st, reset preferences.
Purging the cache can solve some problems, it will be rebuilt as you visit each folder.
Resetting Workspaces is probably not necessary unless you have display problems.
To view the files in Win. Exp. you have to open then navigate to the device where the card is being read.
If you can view the card in W Exp then the card works, and you can get photos in Bridge with File/get photos from camera.
If you do not get the auto load window when you stick the card in you will have to look at the autoload optons in the Op. Sys.  Look in Help file for info. on where to look.

  • Photoshop CS5 does not print amount of images accurately!

Photoshop CS5 does not print amount of images accurately!
what ever you ask for above 1 copy of an image you do not get it..
you ask for 5 you get 1 you ask for 8 you get 1.. sometimes you get the leftover amount from the previous image printed on the new image..
adobe support has no idea about this problem..I'm assuming most people print one image and they don't recognize the problem since CS5 is just on the market... try print multiple copies and see what happens?

The solution is purported to be to get a driver update.
Since the problem seems to be a "delay" or "staging" of the values being sent to the driver through some intermediate location, a workaround has been proposed that may be helpful.  This may depend on the printer driver:
    1.  Set the copy count you want.
    2.  Hit the Print Settings... button.
    3.  Go into the Printer Driver setup screens and verify the copy count.
    4.  Then do the print.

  • My photoshop cs5 will not recognize raw photos from my canon eos 70d

my photoshop cs5 will not recognize raw photos from my canon eos 70d

No.  DNG is a RAW format.  There are a few small manufacturer specific items that are left out when converted to RAW (for example, Nikon's Active D lighting) that aren't maintained, as well as some Meta data and focus points, etc.  Personally I never noticed the difference, but perhaps some do.  There is no impact to the image quality, you have just as much post production freedom with DNG.
I did it for a couple years before upgrading to CS6.  It's an extra step, but you get used to it and it's not a huge deal.  I would put my card in my reader, and download to a temp file.  While that downloaded I would go to the fridge and grab a beer [Edit - you can substitute the beverage of your choice ].  Then I would run the RAW to DNG converter, and drink my beer.  It was usually done before my beer (if not I got another).  I saved the CR2 files as a backup at first, but once I got comfortable trusting DNG I stopped doing that.
Another option is to get Lightroom and use that for your developing.  You can then send over a TIFF file with the edits.  But in this situation you couldn't send the image over as a smart object (I think, I assume this would use ACR?).

  • Photoshop CS4 does not recognize raw photos taken with newer cameras. Anyone else have this problem?

Photoshop CS4 will not recognize RAW2 photos taken with my new Panasonic Lumix FZ100 camera. This camera is listed in Adobe's 6.2 Camera Raw update for Photoshop CS5 but cannot be loaded in CS4. I paid a lot of money for CS4 and don't want to buy CS5 just because I bought a new camera, but it appears that Adobe no longer updates Camera Raw for CS4 or with newer cameras. When I called the Help Desk to find out if there was some kind of patch I could get to make CS4 compatible with my new camera a gentleman in New Delhi informed me that he couldn't even answer my question until I paid $40 since answering questions about CS4 was a "paid service." I hung up in a rage. Does anyone else have this problem and is there a solution?

This camera is listed in Adobe's 6.2 Camera Raw  update for Photoshop CS5 but cannot be loaded in CS4.
Adobe does indeed not update obsolete versions of Camera Raw for new camera types.
And guess what: It’s the camera producers who seem to like to change their raws – so how about spreading some of your indignation their way?
I paid a lot of  money for CS4 and don't want to buy CS5 just because I bought a new  camera
The upgrade is cheaper than buying the full version.
Anyway, you could try the free DNG Converter which should be able to handle everything the most recent version of Camera Raw can handle.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS5 do not recognize my scanners

    I have 3 Canon scanners.
They are all reconised by Photoshop CS4 extended.
Now I bought and installed also Photoshop CS5 Extended.
None of those scanners are recognised by CS5. So I have to scann with CS4, save the picture and then openwith CS5.
    I have Windows VISTA Ultimate
Will you advise me what do do in order to be able to scan directly from CS5?

I'm not being difficult but I don't understand what the problem is or how it takes more time.
    "Sorry.
I did that. It takes much more time than scanning using "Import" from
    Photoshop itself.
It seems to me it was not worthwhile what I paid for Photoshop CS5."
Photoshop is a photo editing program.  It has no influence concerning how fast your scanner scans.  There is no TWAIN for 64 bit, therefore, no IMPORT.  I fail to see how using Canon software directly takes longer.  I scan hundreds of photos.  I have not used IMPORT since I bought PsCS4 and use a Vista64 machine.  It hasn't affected the time required or the quality of the scans one bit.
I believe Photoshop to be worth every cent, as a photo editor.  It's NOT a scanning application and was never intended as such.
I use an Epson scanner.   My routine is to scan (in Epson software) the image and it is saved as a tiff in whatever folder I want it to be in.  I click that file and it opens in Photoshop.  Does not take long at all.
Please explain exactly the process you are using (using Canon software) and how it takes longer.

  • Photoshop CS6 Does not recognize my Nikon D800E

When trying to open my raw files in Photoshop CS6 it tells me that it does not recognize my camera or that the camera is too new.  What do I need to download (Apple OSLion)to proceed?

Which version of Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) do you have installed?

The D800E is fully supported in ACR 7.1

  • Photoshop 11 does not recognize external harddrive when trying to reconnect images?

I have moved my catalog to a new computer, using Photoshop Elements 11. All images are on 2 external harddrives. The PC recognizes both harddrives and shows folder structure and files correctly. When in Photoshop Organiser the thumbnails appear, with the question mark, as the drive structure is different to the old PC. When trying to reconnect the images to the second external harddrive Photoshop suddenly does not recognise this harddrive anymore.
Please anybody advise on what I can do to fix that?

Please try steps mentioned on blog: http://psekb.blogspot.in/2013/03/how-do-i-reconnect-missing-files-in.html Let me know if it doesn't help.

  • Photoshop CC does not recognize my plugins

I'm on a Mac. Photoshop CC does not recoginize my plugins that I had in CS5 like Silver Efex Pro, Topaz plugins, etc.  How can I fix this? I tried copying the plugins from the Plugins folder in Photoshop CS5 to the Plugins folder in Photoshop CC but that did not work.
    Thanks, Tom

You will have to get the proper CC compatible updates from the plug-in vendors. This behavior is intentional, since incompatible legacy plug-ins will crash the program otherwise.

  • Photoshop CS5 does not want to open after I changed the scratch disks in prefs

I was working on a large document in Photoshop CS5 that ate too much of my main drive (to the point I had to quite and restart a few times to clear it out) when the main drive was set as a scratch disk. I went in to preferences and changed the scratch disk to my secondary internal drive, where I keep all my media. Then quit Photoshop to clear the cache.
When I tried to open Photoshop again I get a message at start up (haven't gotten in to the program yet) saying: "Could not open a scratch file because the disk is not available". Clicked OK. Then another warning message: "Could not initialize Photoshop because the disk is not available."
Both disks are mounted and available. Since Photoshop never actually opens up I cannot go in and reset the scratch disk to my intinital settings.
Anybody got an idea what I can do to solve this?
    Thanks,
    /Fred

Worst case: trashing prefs by keeping ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop (and then using the dialog) should allow you to open it.

  • Photoshop CS5 does not respond to Lightroom

Hi. I have just recently upgraded both Photoshop CS4 to CS5 and Lightroom 2.7 to 3.0. They're great upgrades and am enjoying the new features. However, there is one hangup that I am running into. When in Lightroom, I do a right click over an image to Edit the Image in Photoshop CS5. Most of the time the image will then open in Photoshop and I can then proceed to do my edits. But, after a short while (after a couple hours), this procedure stops working. When I click in Lightroom to Edit in Photoshop CS5, Photoshop will begin to load up, but then the image to edit never appears. I then quit Photoshop and reload it, but then it still doesn't respond to Lightroom. After quitting both programs and retrying the whole process, Photoshop still won't respond.
The only way to fix this I've found is to restart or log off the comp (I'm on a mac with OSX 10.6). Some on here have said to delete the preference files. I've done this, but still no luck. I've deleted Photoshop CS5 and reinstalled it, and still the problems persists. I've updated my CS5 to version 12.0.1, and still the same problem. Has anyone else out there experienced this problem?
    Thanks

  • PHOTOSHOP CS4 DOES NOT RECOGNIZE MY SCANNER

I just installed Photoshop CS4 64 bit in a new computer with Windows 7.  I downloaded and installed Twain Driver and Epson Scan Utility v3.04A as recommended by Epson for my Epson Perfection 4990 Photo Scanner to use with Windows 7.  The scanner works fine as a stand alone and works with Microsoft Paint, so the drivers seem to be installed correctly.  But when I open PSCS4 and go to file/automate, the scanner is not seen.
I spoke with Epson tech support who tells me I am missing a 64 bit twain plug in for PSCS4 which is required for the scanner to be recognized by PS.  They said there is no problem with 32 bit, but I need to wait for this 64 bit Twain Plug in to be released by either Adobe or Microsoft in order for this to work with my set up.
What are people doing with PSCS4 and Windows 64 bit and Epson scanner?  I realize I can scan outside of Photoshop as a work around, but this is not ideal.  Any suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Matthew Kraus

As John Joslin suggested... try VueScan. Excellent scanning software, very reasonably priced, unlimited upgrades, less than U$ 100. Just check if your scanner is supported (i just checked and it seems to be).
    http://www.hamrick.com/
I used to use it and found it excellent. In fact, one of the cool things was that i could do all my scans in one session and then open the images in PS when i wanted / needed to work on them.

  • Photoshop CS3 does not recognize the scanner Epson Perfection 1670

I'm an new Mac-User on an iMac 24", 2,4 GHz with Leopard. So I will scan some photos, but the Epson Scanner will not be recognize under CS3. Somebody, who can help???
    Thanks so much!

    Jaclyn.
That is as expected, if you are running a Mac-Intel machine.
When you run CS on a Mac-Intel box, it runs in Rosetta, which emulates a PPC Mac (non-Intel box).
But CS3 runs native in Universal Binary, so it needs Universal Binary drivers.
You can get your scanner to run with CS3 if you set CS3 to run in Rosetta emulation software, but you will experience a substantial performance hit.
The best solution is to scan outside of Photoshop.
This has been covered to death here. Please do a forum search on
    Rosetta.
