Photoshop CS5 Extended 64 Bit (trial) crashes on start-up
Hi,
I have both, the 64 bit and 32 bit trial versons of Photoshop CS5 Extended. The 32 bit program works, but the 64 bit crashes on startup. It just tells me it has "stopped working". I am using Window's 7 (64 bit), and have an "ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670" video card, so it should work. Can someone please help me. I'd like to buy the 64 bit version but no sense if I cannot get it to open.
Thank you

Does that help at all?
Also, if you change the registry, will that keep you from doing anything important in the program? I've read on the forum that it keeps the 3-D part from working correctly?.... or not.

Photoshop CS5 64 bit trial version...I can't get edited images to save changes
CS5 Web Premium Trial Version
I'm using Photoshop CS5 (64-bit). I've made some minor changes to my photo. I've saved, yet the changes won't save. Is this because it is a trail version or am I doing something wrong? I'm wanting to use the photo in a Word doc. Every time I upload it there its the original photo
Thanks for the Help
DannyAre you saving the file using the same type (e.g., jpg)? Do you have file extensions hidden?
Same location as the original file?
Do you see the changes if you double click the file in Explorer and open it in the Windows Photo viewer?

Converting 32bits image to 8bits cause Photoshop CS5 64 Bits to crash
Everything is in the title. I removed my nVidia Display drivers in safe mode and reinstalled, the problem persist. I reset my PS settings... same problem.
It works only in Photoshop 32bits.
Any ideas of what is going wrong? Here is it:

Photoshop cs5 64 bit is crashing
Hello, I have the trial version of cs5 and it installed succesfully without any problems. I went to the program files (x86) folder and opened it from there without a problem.
However, the 64 bit ver in the programs folder keeps crashing as it tires to initialize. How can I fix this?
my specs - windows 7 64 bit home premium
asus g73jh-a1 laptop
i7-720qm
ati 5870
8 gigs of ramNice system!
I'm thinking perhaps the ATI 5870 10.6 drivers have a glitch with Photoshop and OpenGL.
There's a registry tweak to prevent Photoshop from trying to use the OpenGL system, which it will do by default unless it is disabled (or Photoshop itself disables it). The crash is probably preventing that disabling operation, and the following could help you isolate the problem to whether OpenGL is involved. Basically you're adding one DWORD registry value:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Photoshop\12.0]
"DisallowOpenGLWindows"=dword:00000001
If the above does allow you to start Photoshop, then you'll want to go into Photoshop's Edit - Preferences - Performance menu and disable OpenGL there, after which you can remove the above tweak via removal of the DWORD value.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Photoshop\12.0]
"DisallowOpenGLWindows"=-
As with any Windows registry edit, be extremely careful, and don't do it unless you feel comfortable with your abilities to recover from registry editing mistakes.
You will, of course, want to recheck this for the ATI 10.7 release.

Photoshop CS5 64-bit Crashing due to CoolType.dll
Spent 30 minutes on the phone with Adobe's fairly useless tech support, who asked me to do all the things I had already tried (delete prefs, turn of Font Preview, rename the scripting support plug-in, turn off OpenGL, etc.) in order to find out why my Photoshop CS5 64-bit on Windows 7 started crashing whenever I tried to use the text / type tool or opened a document with a type layer selected.
He thought he was done giving "support" when he said "Well, I suggest you just use the 32-bit version". When I reminded him that that didn't actually find / fix / solve the problem, he put me on hold again, then told me to use the System File Checker (sfc.exe) tool to check CoolType.dll, which is what's crashing Photoshop.
He told me that I would have to call Microsoft, because CoolType.dll is a system file and Adobe doesn't support those.
Hmm, I guess he didn't realize that CoolType.dll is an ADOBE system file that ADOBE put on my system.
Anyway...anybody know how to fix / replace CoolType.dll so that I can go back to using the 64-bit version of Photoshop CS5? I checked Adobe's website and couldn't find anyplace to download the current version.
Thanks in advance!
GensyI'm having this issue too. Not sure if I have two issues or it's all related to this. Most of the time, when I go to a folder to save an image, the program just dissapears with no error message at all and all my work is lost. Anything I did during that session in PS is lost, including any modification of preferences, new actions made, etc. I have tried reinstalling window 7 and CS5 and even on a clean system the problem occurs. I have also tried uninstalling all non-essential fonts and deleting the font cache. And, all the stuff you mentioned such as preferences in PS and dissabling OpenGL, etc. and have had three Microsoft tech sessions. They don't see any evidence of the crash on my system so can't help with it.

Both are referencing cooltype.dll. I ran Font Doctor on all system and non-system fonts and found no errors. Booted without Extensis Suitcase loading. Nothing works. All 32 bit programs work fine. Any clues would be appreciated. It does not necessarily mean a "corrupt" font, but can be a font that PrPro, and PS, cannot handle.
Though I have read that changes have been made, Open Office's DejaVu font would crash PrPro's Titler - every time. There are quite a few others. Font Dr, and similar utilities, will not see the font(s) as corrupt, but they are so poorly designed, that PrPro and PS cannot deal with them.
Though it can be a long, drawn out process, one can often zero in on the problem font(s), with a little work. This is accomplished by first defining the "System Fonts," and not touching them. Then, uninstall half of the remaining fonts, and testing PrPro and PS. If they launch fine, you know that somewhere in that list of fonts, the problem exists. If there is still a failure to launch, chances are good that the problem font(s) reside in that half, that are still installed. Note: because the problem still exists, does not guarantee that there are NOT problem fonts in that uninstalled group, so keep that in mind.
Repeat the proces, by uninstalling half of the remaining fonts and testing.
If necessary, repeat by removing half of the now remaining fonts and testing.
When you get to a point, where you are no longer getting problems, reinstall fonts, in small groups, testing in between. The smaller the groups, the easier it will be to pinpoint the problem font(s).
Keep notes on which fonts you are uninstalling and reinstalling, until you narrow it down to the problem font(s).
I would start by uninstalling any "free fonts," and then commercial, 3rd party fonts. A lot of free fonts are just poorly designed, and can cause issues, though they might work fine in some other programs.
I use a font manager, so that I only have ~ 350 fonts installed at one time, and then dynamically install fonts, as needed for Projects. That keeps my machine clean, and if, upon installation, I get a crash/hang, I know that at least one font in that Set is causing it. This helps, as my workstation has ~ 19,000 fonts on it, and some are free fonts, and many are from 3rd parties. Some are also very, very old.
Good luck,
Hunt
PS - one common cause for hangs on loading PrPro can be from VST's, used in Audio-editing. If you also have a lot of VST's, you could have two issues with two separate programs, i..e. PS hanging on fonts, and PrPro hanging on VST's. The results would be the same, but the causes could be different. That leads to even more work. For PrPro, also see this ARTICLE. If you get PS launching, but PrPro is still not functioning, drop by the PrPro Forum, and someone can help you there. -

Opening Photoshop CS5 Extended - It crashes immediately!
Hello All,
I have downloaded and installed Photoshop CS5 Extended.
The problem is that after entering my ID and password (first time),
the splash screen appears, saying Photoshop.
When it tries to initiate "plugins-SupportScript" it crashes every time.
I uninstalled and re-installed. I get the same problem.
What do I do? What should I check? I am using Windows XP,
Service Pack 3.
FeliciaThis is reported here from time to time.
One immediate workaround to get you up and working might be to disable the ScriptingSupport plug-in temporarily by renaming it to have a ~ character in front. On a 32 bit operating system you'll find it here:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Plug-ins\Extensions\ScriptingSupport.8li
Note that disabling this plug-in is just a workaround to get you to where you might be able to run Photoshop while you investigate this further.
I'd start by thoroughly searching this forum for "ScriptingSupport" and see what others have done to correct the problem. It may be that you have to clear your Photoshop preferences to default.

Photoshop CS5 Extended crashing on Windows Vista.
I've just installed Photoshop on my system. My video drivers and everything are up to date. Video card is NVidia GeForce 7050/ nForce 620i and it shows as compatible on the Photoshop tested cards list.
Photoshop CS5 Extended opens fine and dandy. But whenever I try to do anything it crashes. Tried scanning a document via the Photoshop import, scan starts, goes to open the scanned object, crashes. Tried opening a new document. Set my document preferences, click ok, Photoshop crashes... Try to open an existing image, the image starts to open, Photoshop crashes... I think you get the picture.. but I don't LOL.....
I have the event viewer log and it is as follows:

I'm at a loss..... Does anyone have a flashlight to help me find my way out of this deep dark cave? LOL
Thanks in advance.Latest is not always greatest with video drivers, ESPECIALLY from nVidia.
1. They apparently don't put too much effort into supporting older hardware.
2. The MUCH larger video game market has them all scrambling to improve their latest and greatest offerings to improve the frame rate in Crysis or whatever, and they don't seem all that interested in Photoshop users.

[BUG] Photoshop CS5 Extended 64-bit and the UAC
HI
Installing all the updates of the suite of Photoshop CS5 Extended 12.LS4 32-64 bit on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, you must completely disable the UAC to start Photoshop CS5 Extended 64-bit. Why?
THANKS
BYEThat's a fair question. Mine's not broken and I have not had to reinstall it, so I can't answer from personal experience.
General advice: Make a good backup and set a restore point before trying any restorative activity.
Also search this forum for something like "registry permissions"... I seem to recall at least one thread in early to mid 2010 where someone identified parts of the registry on which to alter permissions to solve some problem or another.

Photoshop CS5 64-bit crashes when opening an image; 32-bit works fine
This is a bit of a tricky problem, but if I start up Adobe Photoshop CS5 64-bit, it runs alright. But the second I choose an image and open it, I get "Photoshop has stopped working..." and Windows tries to find a solution.
However, the 32-bit version of PS CS5 works perfectly.
On my Mac Mini, however, which ONLY HAS Photoshop 64-bit (Creative Suite 5, Snow Leopard, latest updates), images open and edit fine.
On my PC, I also had this same exact problem with the 64-bit version of Photoshop CS4.
I read in a few forums that it might be a corrupt font, etc., but I have no idea why a corrupt font would be affecting how Photoshop 64-bit opens an image, especially if I don't even get a chance to edit the image or anything. The images I've been trying to update are JPEGs.
I have all of the updates installed on my PC regarding CS5. It's completely updated. I am really stuck. I'd like to be able to take advantage of the 64-bit technology and put that version of Photoshop to use, but I can't.
Thanks in advance. I'm willing to try anything at this point. Here you go, copied straight from the event viewer console.

I did my best to recreate it to look the way it looks in the console, so nothing should be confusing.
Also, @Chris Cox- I do have the most recent beta driver installed for my onboard graphics card, which is an Nvidia GeForce 6150SE, maybe that could be causing it. I will uninstall it and install the most recent recommended release from Nvidia's site. -
Problems installing plug-ins to Photoshop CS5 Extended on a new Win7 64-bit laptop. (Same CS5 and plug-ins installed OK several years ago on a Vista laptop. Now I'm just trying to migrate everything over to the new laptop.) Even some Adobe updates won't install. Instead, a message box pops up on the CS5 screen saying "could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document." Any solution?
CS5's automatic update mechanism is broken, perhaps because it is no longer updated and can't cope with the newer ways of updating.
So this means you will have make a list of the updates that failed, go here: Product updates
and manually download/install from there.

What do i need to uninstall and reinstall photoshop cs5 extended windows 7 32-bit?
what do i need to uninstall and reinstall photoshop cs5 extended windows 7 32-bit?
Photoshop CS5 Extended suddenly stopped recognizing my NVIDIA 3D card (NVIDIA Quadro FX 1800M). No 3D graphics will work in Photoshop. An Adobe online tech worked with me on it for about an hour. We concluded that I would go try to update the NVIDIA driver. The NVIDIA website is frustrating. The boxes to input my card model and system do not work.
Nawang uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop (my question below was about how to do that, but he did it for me and that did not help.)
My card is 3D capable. I used Repousse 3D effect two days ago and it worked fine. Now it is not working, all 3D controls are grayed out.

Can't unistall trial version of Photoshop CS5 extended in Windows 7
My trial version of photoshop cs5 extended has expired. I would like to unistall it. When I go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, both photoshop and bridge do not appear in the window. How do I unistall these programs?
I did go to programs and features, it is not appearing in add/remove
programs. I do have registry booster and it runs about once a month.
