Photoshop CS5 freezes for several seconds in Windows 7

I am using Photoshop CS5.1 Extended with Windows 7 Professional 64 bit with 6GB of RAM.  Everything worked good until about a week ago.  Now when I am working in the program all of the sudden everything freezes - the window, menus, everything.  The only thing that will move is the mouse cursor which is the tool that I was last using before the freeze occured.  I have to stop and wait for about 30 seconds then Photoshop unfreezes and starts working again until the next time it freezes.  Turning OFF the Open GL in the Performance Preferences doesn't help.  I have also deleted the preference file with no help.
Does anyone have an idea why this is happening and how to fix it?
Thanks.
Bill

Curt's advice is right on.
An overall freeze could indicate the display driver is crashing and being reset by the OS.  Look in the Windows Event Logs (System and Application) for more evidence of what's happening specifically.  If you're having a driver crash it will cause an event to be logged.
Also check to see if you have any network or hardware resources that were once available but are now missing (e.g., a mapped drive to a server that's not online or a printer that's been unplugged).

    Hi Guys,
I found the solution on Adobe's forums. Thanks to the adobe guys.
I have a program "RightZoom" installed. Needed to upgrade that to the latest "Lion Compatible" version.

  • System freezes for several seconds every minute or so?

Recently, within the past week, my OS has began freezing for several seconds every 40 seconds or so. I had not downloaded any applications around the time this began. The last app I downloaded was iMovie 6 (for the editing features), I downloaded this several days after this problem began. The last app I downloaded BEFORE the problem began was UnRarX, which I downloaded back in April. I have no idea how to check my specs, and computer info, please tell me how to get this and I will tell you.

Call AppleCare. Whenever you buy a new Mac, discs are always supplied with them. Usually they come in a white envelope that is square with the user manual in the box. If you bought it from a non-Apple source, you should call them and ask them to send you the disc. It isn't their's to keep, and they can call AppleCare to order them. And no, it isn't in the Utilities folder. It is a physical optical disc that looks like a music CD, but says MacBook Pro on it.

  • Firefox 4 freezes for several seconds for some websites

The new Firefox 4 browser seem to have become a nightmare for me; its freezes for about 5-10 seconds while loading some webpages(not all websites).
For example webcosmo.com home page and most other pages.
    cricinfo.com pages

    Same problem here.
Solved by downloading & installing Adobe Flash "square" for both FF4 (plugin) and MSIE9 (ActiveX).
    System: Intel Core i7-860/4GB, Win7 Ulti 64-bit SP1, MSIE 9 64-bit, FF4.
    Good luck!

  • Firefox often freezes for several seconds.

Firefox seems to freeze a lot on me. It usually happens when I do stuff, but not heavy stuff, just like, clicking and scrolling. It's not the Windows kind of freeze where the window goes white, it just literally stops, like a laggy video game. Usually lasts a few seconds, and then it executes my action after it unfreezes. It wasn't so bad at first, but now it's really, really annoying.
Firefox 3 was never like this, it's only since 4. It might have something to do with the crazy amount of memory Fx seems to use; it starts at about 100k and then gradually grows as high as 1.2m.

  • When I go to some web sites, my apple freezes for several seconds and then responds

I try to go to certain sites and my mac freezes and then responds.  This is happening more frequently.

I've experienced this too, it always seems to be caused by flash content. Mine happens intermitently so haven't really found a solution. Are all your plug-ins up-to-date? And are you running any sort of ad-blocker?

  • Streamed video constantly freezing for several seconds...

...then catching up to the spot where the audio continued without a problem, then again and again throughout. This happens for streams (including YouTube) that have not caused these problems for me in the past. A look at Task Manager shows Firefox using a lot of RAM and CPU. The problem seemed to start in the last month (or so). Here are my system details: Dell 4600 P4 2.40GHz, XP Home SP3, 1.5 GB RAM, Firefox 10.0.2, Flash ActiveX 11.1.102.55, Flash Plug-in 11.1.102.62, Norton Internet Security 2012, High Speed DSL (tested now as 3965kbps), Linksys WRT54G. Let me know if there's any other specs or problem description needed.

I'd try a couple of things.  First, does this only happen with Firefox?  Have you tried Chrome or IE to see if the behavior is the same?  If it's not, then try creating a new Firefox profile to see if that helps.
    Make a new profile
If it happens with all browsers, please take a look at YouTubes speed test page to get an idea of what they're recording for your bandwidth.

  • I have license for photoshop CS5 extended for windows , I have switched to mac , can  I install the same license copy on mac ?

I have license for photoshop CS5 extended for windows , I have switched to mac , can  I install the same license copy on mac ?

Unfortunately, no. the CS programs are platform specific. You have three options. Upgrade to CS6 and request a platform swap, in which case you will give up the Windows serial number. Second, you could buy a second serial number for Mac outright. Third, you can buy the subscription to Photoshop CC, which can be used on both Windows and Macintosh..

  • How do i freeze a frame in a movie and hold it for several seconds?

    Hi
I have a clip where someone turns round and gives the 'thumbs up' to the camera - how do i hold this thumbs up position, for several seconds?
Do i need to export a frame and import it back to the timeline or what?
    thanks

Cut the clip in the timeline at the point where you want the "Thumbs Up" to freeze and make sure the playhead is on that frame.
    Then select Modify>Make Freeze Frame.
The freeze-frame will appear in the Viewer.
Click on it and drag it down to the timeline.
You will have to alter its length according to what you want.

  • Photoshop CS5 freezes when opening files

Since, I belive, the last CS5 update a week ago, Photoshop is freezing for a few seconds (5 or 6) everytime it opens an image, any image, regardless of its size, color mode, layers, etc. This was not happening before. Anyone with same problem?
    I have a Mac Pro 2x2.66MHz with 11GB Ram and Mac OS X 10.6.4.
    Thx

Yes, here at work we use Font Agent Pro. I tried your 'unspoken' suggestion and the problem indeed goes away when removing the Font Agent Pro auto-activating plugin.
Thanks for the solution. Should we avoid the Font Agent Pro plugins in InDesign and Illustrator too? Is there a better way for auto-activating fonts (Suitcase Fusion)?

  • After updating photoshop CS5 to 12.0.4 x32 (windows) I cannot open my documents/files or create new

I had the problem before. Reinstalled Photoshop CS5 and updated again.
Clicking a file starts Photoshop but does not open the file.
If I click "new" to make a new file, nothing happens.
    Help....!!!!!!

    Hi PE
    Yes, but nothing happened.
I was instructed to press some key during startup of Photoshop, and it should reset the program.
    However, it did not work.

Hansson, did you get a window asking you if you wanted to reset your preferences.
Maggedotno, is it the english version? Do you have third party plug-ins? Can you post the contents of help>system info?

  • LVRT PXI Target ethernet stops for several seconds

    Hello,
I am experiencing a problem described in this thread:
    http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=101488&requireLogin=False
A brief explanation is: during TCP transfers, the data transmission will pause periodically, for several seconds.  In that case, LV version is 7.1, and the solution was a maintenance upgrade to 7.1.1.  In my case, the LV version is 7.0 (I am supporting a customer application), and because LV 7.1 was not purchased, the upgrade is not available to me.
Is there a similar fix available for LV RT 7.0?  OS is Windows 2000.
    Thank you,
    RonC

    Hello RonC,
From what I understand, you are asking for a maintance release to improve the TCP communication.  Unfortunately, that does require the upgrade to at least 7.1.1.  One other option that might help improve performance is to set your system to half-duplex.  I have included the instructions below:
When using a crossover cable to communicate between an RT controller and a windows host, it is important to ensure that the systems correctly negotiate signals. By manually setting these connections, you ensure correct communication with the RT system and host.
Configure the settings in Windows 2000 or Windows XP
Right-click on My Computer on the Desktop and choose Properties.
Select the Hardware tab and click Device Manager.
    Expand Network Adapters.
Right-click on the ethernet communication device (i.e. Intel(R) PRO/100VE Desktop Adapter) and choose Properties.
Select the Advanced tab and browse the list on the right hand side. One of the items will allow you to configure the communication settings by selecting an item from the Value drop down menu. In the Value drop-down box, you will see the following options:
    100Mbps/Full Duplex
    100Mbps/Half Duplex
    10Mbps/Full Duplex
    10Mbps/Half Duplex
    Auto Detect
Select one of the Half Duplex modes and select OK
The host system is now set up for half-duplex communication
Configure the settings on the RT Controller
Open Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX)
Expand Remote Systems and select your Real-Time target
Select the Advanced Ethernet Settings Button to bring up the property page
In the property page select half duplex and select OK
The Real-Time controller is now setup to use half-duplex communication.
    I hope this helps!

  • The browser freezes for a second while playing Zuma Blitz and Bejeweled Blitz on Facebook. It also freezes for a second while typing. What's going on?

During gameplay on Facebook it falls under Adobe Flash. If I "END" the plugin-container.exe the game crashes and have to refersh the page, in which case the plugin starts all over again. There seems to be no way to play without this process running. My typing is also freezing for a second before it catches up to my fingers. This has been happening for about two weeks. I never had this problem playing these games before.
My OS is Windows Vista and I'm running Firefox version 3.6.13

Update: Firefoxe's best browser was version ~2.2.21!
Ever since then, the user experience has been less and less. Slower browser, feats most users don't use (like skins)... really.. I'm a bit disappointed at the (negative) progress of late.

  • Mac Pro shows beach ball and pauses for several seconds

I have an issue with my new Mac Pro (2013) wherein I can be running nothing but Pages for instance (does same with other non-graphic intense programs as well) and I will get a beach ball, then the computer will halt for several seconds until the beachball clears.  Why is this happening?  I have 500 GB SSD and 16 GB Apple memory.   This happens also when bouncing a two or three instrument song in Logic Pro.  Anyone know of issues?

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
