Photoshop CS5 image size

Please help. If I set up a new doc at 7.5" x 4.625", when I recheck the image or canvas size, it says 7.5" x 4.627" - why can't I get the .625 to stick?

Thank you so much for resolving this issue JJMack!!
I set my dpi at 300 (which I thought was fairly standard for most print jobs - at least that's what the printer asked for), and when I changed it to 600 dpi the 3 decimal places stuck just as you said.
If anything, it's taken a weight off my mind - I thought I was doing something strange.
cheers!

When I use the Export to Photoshop feature (or if I export to PSD or export to TIFF and then open in Photoshop), the images look like this:
When the original in Lighroom looks like this:
If I zoom in to 100% the weird artifacting/tearing goes away, but if I zoom out any more than 66%, it gets these weird malformations on the image. I cannot figure out why. It's not the image size since I've worked with 100+ meg PSD files in Photoshop before without this issue. If I export to JPG from LR and then open in Photoshop, it's fine. It just happens with TIFF or PSD. Driving me nuts.
    Anybody have any idea why?
    Thank you all so much.

That's a typical video card driver problem affecting Photoshop. Update the driver from the manufacturer's site (NVidia or ATI).

  • Photoshop CS5 - Image resize problem with move tool

    Hi People
    Here's my problem
When I try to resize an layer using the move tool (as opposed to the Free Transform tool), while I'm in the process of moving the scaling handles, the bounding box reflects my movement but the layer preview stays at it's original size. When I stop moving the handles there is a few seconds delay and then the new scale size shows up. If I try to move the handles again, without commiting to the transform, the layer preview reverts back to it's original size until I've finished moving the handles.
I didn't have this problem with CS4 and I've only recently upgraded. I work around this problem by using the proper Free Transform tool (ctrl+t) but it would be nice to know why the hell this happens. It seems to me to be more of a graphical glitch than a software preference but I thought I'd check just-in-case.

I also read you you tried updating your video dirvers and your syste crashed and you had to roll back.   Make sure you have downloaded the latest correct drivers. If that does not work try turning off Open GL in photoshops preferences.
On my old XP 32 bit system CS5 movet tool with transform dialog does not fail like on your system. I can move the handles time and time again without commiting the transform. The only way to have Photoshop revert the transform back to the original state is to press the ESC key to cancel the uncommitted transform.

  • Help with Photoshop Cs6 Image size

I am using Photoshop Cs6 on a MacBook Pro with retina display.  I'm working on an image that is 72 dpi and 1000 pixels wide by 300 pixels tall.  When I hook my laptop up to my external monitor, the image is a nice size.  However, when I disconnect it and look at it on my laptop it is way to small.  I have to zoom in on the image on my laptop to see the detail and then the graphics are distorted.  Can you please help me?

  • Photoshop CS5 pdf size fine - Bridge Multi page pdf size not fine

I know it must be asked a thousand times but here goes:
PDFs saved by photoshop display the true document size (let's say 70cm width on 72ppi)
When I try to create multi page pdfs fro bridge (thanks Adobe!), no matter how many ways I try to set it up, the image always is small in the center of a white background. Always.
    What gives?

    Hi,
    1. Why dont u try it in pdf itself?
U can just crop the required area in pdf file using crop tool so it can be applied for all the pages at a time.
    2. If u trying to remove particular area on a pdf u can place a white box on that area using pitstop tool it can be saved as actionlist like batch processing and applied for any number of pages and files.
Making this in pdf itself won't get u more file size. Size will be as equal as ur source file.

  • ILLUSTRATOR/PHOTOSHOP onscreen image sizes differ.

Why does an image appear larger in Photoshop cs3 than in Illustrator cs3.
The document has the same resolution and is at the same magnification in both programs

This issue is driving me crazy! Especially because I can't reproduce the results.
If you copy and paste as a smart object from Illustrator into Photoshop, edit, and bring it back into Illustrator, then the pasted/placed smart object is usually greatly scaled down. It is like the two apps share different world space. There is no problem if you scale the placed image up, but you have to determine the appropriate multiplier. 2.5 has worked for me before. Of course, the resolution stays intact, you aren't actually changing the raster image at this point, just its size relative to the vector images.
I think that's how it can be helped.
Does anyone have a better workflow suggestion for adding raster effects to vector shapes and embedding into .ai files?

  • Photoshop CS5 Image Rotation Problem

    Hi:
I have recently found out that I am having a problem with image rotation in CS5.  If I have a Background layer and jump the layer to duplicate it and then set the jumped layer to Flip Horizontal both the jumped layer AND the Background layer are flipped horizontally as if they are linked in some way.  The only work around that I could come up with was to duplicate the document, flip the layer in the duplicate and then combine the documents.  It works but what a pain.  As anybody else experienced this problem?
    Herman R.

    Charles:
My Background was locked and only the jumped layer was selected.
However, the "problem" grows more intriguing.  I tried using Duplicate Layer rather Command J (is there a difference between these two??) and was pleasantly surprised to find that the problem disappeared!!  I then went back to Command J and still had the same problem.  To make a long story short, I went back and forth several time and then even the jumped layer worked as it should.  It was as if it had "learned" the correct behavior!  I tested it now ony several documents and all is fine.  Does this make any sense to you?

Sure - just forget about the size in cm, but get the dimension right: e.g. 2000x1333

  • Photoshop cs5 changes size automatically

Greetings.  Im haivng a stupid problem with this program (cs5).  Im trying to make a file  20" X 34.125", and NO MATTER what i do, it automatically changes the size to 20" X 34.127".  I have no idea how to stop it from doing this, and help would be appreciated.
    craig.

You are trying to create a file with a one/eighth inch increment. PPI means pixels per inch. 300 ppi is not divisible by eight so PSD is extrapolating to the closest mutiple of eight. To be sure that files using measurements if 1/8 inch do not change size use a setting that is a multple of eight. (I recommend using 288 ppi for a variety of reasons.)

  • Photoshop CC Image Sizes

Photoshop says my photo is 55.8M but on the desktop it's only 12.3 megabytes. I don't understand the discrepancy.

Thank you for reminding me of this. I'm surprised at myself, forgetting that. AND do I correctly recall that compression tends to affect colour depth? A .tif is better for CMYK print?
I really appreciate your speedy responses.

  • When I have resized and saved an image in Photoshop (CS, version 8.0 for Mac) using image size, why is it so large when I open it in preview or another image viewer? Has it actually saved according to the size I specified?

When I have resized and saved an image in Photoshop (CS, version 8.0 for Mac) using image size, why is it so large when I open it in preview or another image viewer? Has it actually saved according to the size I specified?

You want to view the image at the Print Size, which represents the size that shows in the Image>Resize Dialog.
    View>Print Size
Since screen resolution is almost always lower that the print resolution (somewhere between 72 and 96 usually), images will always look bigger on the screen, unless you view them at print size.
(apple Retina displays have a much higher resolution than normal screens, closer to the average print size resolution)

  • How to make Image/size/resolution agree with metadata resolution?

After scanning the help file a bit and searching thru this forum a bit with `metadata resolution' as search criteria, I'm still pretty confused about how it is supposed to work.. I may have never actually found the right part of the help file.
Cutting to the chase: How can I make the resolution reported by the metadata tab for resolution agree with what is reported inside photoshop at Image/size resolution.  I didn't see any way to set how res is reported in bridge.
I see many pictures reported in metadata as 72 ppi for resolution and  reported in photoshop as 200 pixel/inch
They do BOTH mean pixels per inch right?  If so, or really even if they don't how can I get the two reports to show the same resolution?
There are too many processes that depend on knowing res in advance of opening a file for that to be so far divergent.

Some JPG or Tiff with Camera raw settings will be opened in ACR firstly when you double click them. In ACR workflow option (the bottom in the ACR dialog) the resolution value isn’t same with that in Bridge (metadata panel). If you go ahead to open the image in PS by clicking ‘Open Image’ button in ACR dialog and then check the image size from Image -> Image Size in PS, the resolution will be same with ACR (actually it is changed by ACR).
If disable ACR support for JPG and Tiff in Bridge (Open Camera Raw Preferences in Bridge and choose ‘Disable JPEG support’ or ‘Disable TIFF support’ for ‘JPEG and TIFF Handling’), JPG or TIFF files will be opened by PS directly and the resolution matches between Bridge and PS. I believe this is an ACR bug.
So what file types are you using and if they’re opened by ACR firstly in your workflow?
The files are *.jpg.   But I don't see where camera raw comes in.  These are common jpg files.  I'm opening them by double click in bridge.
Any way I did disable jpg and tiff in the Camera Raw preferences as you suggested.  At Jpeg and tiff handling, both disabled. and restared bridge.
    However, I see no improvment.
For example, a file reporting 72 ppi in bridge when opened in photoshop ... Images/size resolution reports 480 pixels/inch.
There is obviously some kind of miss handling that has been done to these files for them to have such a high resolution.   I suspect they may have been handled at Walgreens or Walmart... or similar since I had something very similar happen to me once when I had a bunch of pictures developed at Walgreens and they cam back with resolutions like that, when I know the camera would have given them something way less.
But I don't see how any of that should be effecting Bridges  inability to get the resolution right.
    Here is another example: some.jpg
It appears that bridge is showing an unusually huge file size in inches, to account for the reported 72 ppi.
    Bridge:
    Size: ...............1.14mb
    Dimensions:.....1496x1064
    Dimensions in
    inches ............20.8x26.7
    Resolution: .....72 ppi
    ===========================
    Photoshop:
    pixels
    Width 1496
    height 2064
    Document size
    inches
    width  4.987
    height 6.88
    Resolution 300

  • Cs4 small jpeg file shows as large image size

Hi I am using Photoshop CS4 and I am trying to downsize images shot from my camera to less than 1 mb, by shifting the quality of the jpeg slider to the left in the save as menu.
Once I've done that when I open the newly reduced jpeg file again, and I go to the image Size, it shows as 25 Mb,
This started happening after I reinstalled the Cs4 Creative Suite to my computer.
What can I do, as when I tried to upload the images, ebay said they were too large, ie the file size of the image didnt get reduced at all.
Is it possible to fix this as I have reinstalled the software twice, and I still get the same problem,
    thanks

Is it possible to fix this as I have reinstalled the software twice, and I still get the same problem
I think the problem is not at all Photoshop’s.
When you degrade an image by reducing the jpg quality the number of pixels does not change so the uncompressed image (as indicated for the opened file in Photoshop’s Image Size dialog) naturally has the old size.
What are ebay’s image requirements? Do they mention some maximum width/height in pixels?

  • Image not displaying correctly Photoshop CS5 Extended V 12.1. (Same file OK in PS Elements)

    I am having a problem with Photoshop CS5 Extended V 12.1.
    The problem:
When I open some files, some shades of BLUE colour is displayed as BLACK
However the same file  opens and displays correctly if I open it using Photoshop Elements V9.0.3.
When I save the file as JPEG and re-open it, the problem returns.
Opening the JPEG file in any other application, including PS Elements, does not cause the problem
    Source of files
The original files came from a Nikon camera, saved in RAW format. It is possible that the original files were corrupted in some way as the shots had an unusual blue cast - which was easily resolved by Photoshop when I originally opened the RAW files. However, I'm not sure.
The problem is not universal as I've not been able to reproduce it with any other files (RAW or JPEG).
I have calibrated my monitor display settings sRGB IEC61966-2.1 (default)

Thank you for yur reply, Curt. Yes, I do have the original RAW file. When I open it in PSE and PS, the colours appear correctly AT FIRST as shown here:
However, when I select "Open Image", it appears as here:
You will see that the blues in the lady's scarf and the wolly hat of a man in the forground are appearing as black. However, when the file is saved as JPEG or PNG and printed or viewed using PSE or Pait, or any other medium (even Premiere Elements), the colurs arer fine.
However, the same process when followed in PSE, does not result in the same outcome. The image displays correctly.

  • Photoshop CC not displaying correct image sizes, among other issues.

Hey, so I'd like a bit of help here!
I got my new laptop from the school a couple of weeks ago and photoshop’s been funky ever since I got it. It’s a brand new Macbook, and it's running Photoshop CC.
First things first, it won’t recognize some of the brushstrokes I make. It will show that I've made them, but they won’t show up in the history panel. I'll have to make another stroke for it to register both of them. (Making undoing things a real pain.) Also, some of the keyboard shortcuts I use won't work in a really similar way. If I go to switch to my brush by pressing b, it occasionally won't register it unless I make an additional brush stroke. This works with all of the other shortcuts I use.
In addition, file sizes are all kinds of messed up. Here’s the most recent example. The image dimensions are 500px x 135px, 300DPI, 8bit, RGB color. This is at 100% zoom. Those are the settings I normally use, but for some reason it’s showing the file as about half of the size it should be. (Tumblr post for comparison—they are 500px wide.)
Here’s another example. This one is 1254 x 1201, 300DPI, 8bit, RGB, shown at 100% zoom. The image size is 4.31M. If I go to double the size and change nothing else, the image size jumps up to a whopping 17.2M. I don’t feel like that’s right? I don't remember any other versions of Photoshop having images be that large.
Maybe it’s my computer settings? Right now I have the resolution set on "best for display," but even if i use the "scaled" option and change sizes, the images are still too small.
I don't know if I would be able to uninstall and then re-install Photoshop because the school has control over those sorts of things and there are certain programs that you cannot remove. I've tried restarting the program as well as the laptop, but neither of those helped.
if anyone can help me, I’d really appreciate it! Thank you!

For generic performance and trouble-shooting advice I’d like to recommend reading these:

    http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/2012/07/photoshop-basic-troubleshooting-steps-to-fix-mos t-issues.html
    As for the specifics:
The image size is 4.31M. If I go to double the size and change nothing else, the image size jumps up to a whopping 17.2M.
If you double the dimensions of an image the area is increased fourfold – so what is the problem there?
The image dimensions are 500px x 135px, 300DPI, 8bit, RGB color. This is at 100% zoom. Those are the settings I normally use, but for some reason it’s showing the file as about half of the size it should be. (Tumblr post for comparison—they are 500px wide.)
The introduction or Retina (and other high resolution) displays and browsers actually up-scaling images to accommodate those screen resolutions seems to have confused some users about the concept of pixels.
Could you please post a full size screenshot on this Forum of the image at View > 100% in Photoshop and on tumblr?
