Photoshop CS5 - InDesign CS3 conflict?

I want to upgrade Photoshop CS4 to CS5, but am concerned by a report on the Luminous Landscape Forum where a member claims that installing PS CS5 made his InDesign CS3 unusable. He says, " The Photoshop CS5 changes some core type files in the Common Files >  Adobe diectories, which totally prevent Indesign from even starting."
The LL forum discussion is at http://luminous-landscape.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=43396
Has anyone else seen similar reports or had this experience?  I am working on a project now where I'm required to use InDesign CS3 (and not a later version), so can't take a chance that the new Photoshop will screw things up with ID3.

Not that Mac users need any more reasons to think they have a better OS, but apparently the problem is with some Windows configurations. : )
I asked the same question on the InDesign forum and an expert there was able to both replicate the problem and offer a probable solution.

  • Different Colors when printing from Photoshop and InDesign CS3

Different Colors when printing from Photoshop and InDesign CS3
    I have the following problem:
When printing from Photoshop or InDesign to a PostScript printer, Adobe recommends to let Photoshop handle the colors (I use the German version, so I don't know the exact term used, it changes slightly in all CS3 apps anyway).
The manufacturer however told me to let the PostScript printer handle the colors.
When I chose this option in Ps's print dialog and then choose ISO Coated as the printer pfofile, the results are fine.
But when I place the exact same image in an InDesign file and print from InDesign or export to PDF and print via Acrobat, again using "Printer handles colors", the results are the exact same as if I had used Ps and chosen to let Ps handle the colors (way too saturated and a bit too red).
    ·Photoshop CS3
    ·InDesign CS3
·Test image is a TIFF in CMYK Fogra 27 Coated (which is also the working color space in Ps and ID.
    ·Printer: Xerox Docucolor 3535
    ·Printer profile: ISO Coated
How can I make sure the printer handles the colors in other CS3 apps than Ps? I tried it with ID's print dialog (translated from the German version: Color Management > Options > Color Handling: PostScript-printer decides colors).
    Thanks a lot!

RE: "You don't indicate what Xerox printers you have"
In my first post I named it, is that the information you need?
    Docucolor 3535 using Splash 3535
That's interesting, so I have to find a way to turn off the printer's Color Management function? I mailed them, hope they can tell me how to do it easily. They usually just tell me to not use any profiles and so on, but that's the general rule in this area, I'm really tired of hearing it. Everybody seems to think profiles and LAB mode are nuclear science and I should stay away from it.
Anyway, the test image I'm using is a simple photograph (size A3, 300dpi), so no transparencies at all. I'm placing this image into an equally large ID file and print it from ID, then export it to PDF-X/3 and print it from Acrobat. Hope that helps.

  • Photoshop and InDesign CS3 keep quitting unexpectedly

I'm having issues with Photoshop and InDesign CS3 quitting unexpectedly. At first it was every once in a while, now it's happening numerous times a day and is becoming most irritating. I'm using a mac with OS X. I wasn't here when they installed CS3 and am the only one in the company with a mac so the computer services department won't be any help.

Run the normal maintenance tasks including Repair Permissions.
If it still crashes make sure that the TWAIN plug-in has been disabled and try trashing Photoshop's Prefs.
Otherwise, suspect bad Fonts. FontAgent Pro can ferret those out for you.
(Because it is also happening in InDesign, I suspect that bad or duplicated fonts are involved.)

  • Upgrade to Photoshop CS5 from CS3/CS2/6.0

I purchased Adobe Photoshop 6.0, then upgraded to CS2, then CS3.
    Can I upgrade to CS5?
If so, can I install the trial and later activate it once I have the key?
Since the key is an upgrade key, what is it going to ask for to verify the fact that the CS3 version (which was an upgrade) was based on a full retail version?
The reason for all these questions is that I'm going to be upgrading from Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit. I'd like to just install Photoshop CS5 and try it out, then order the upgrade to complete the install later. I'm concerned about an upgrade not being appropriate (1) and a need to install Photoshop CS3 completely and then run the update to CS5. If I have to do that, I may just install CS3 after my Windows upgrade.
Thanks in advance for your responses. While I did see some questions about upgrading, I missed this exact scenario if it was previously posted.

The upgrade process is really quite straightforward these days - even on a new box which has never previously had Adobe software installed.
Upgrades are as good as full versions once installed. When installing upgrades, all that matters is that you have a serial number to an earlier qualifying version handy - Adobe has given up tracing this all the way back to your full version which could be up to 20 years ago. Upgrade serial numbers can only be verified by serial numbers up to 3 versions back anyway so Photoshop CS does not qualify for a CS5 upgrade.
There's no need to install older versions on a new computer before installing the CS5 upgrade version. It's actually the full code on the disk regardless of whether you purchased a full version or an upgrade - the serial number tells the installer if you've bought an upgrade or full version license.
When you enter your upgrade serial number for CS5, the installer will ask you to enter an earlier qualifying serial number (full or upgrade does not matter). I've successfully completed this exact scenario myself several times.
The only caveat to the above is that there is a world of difference in licensing terms (and serial numbers) between a suite and a standalone version. If you install a CS5 suite trial then want to keep just the Photoshop component (and enter its serial number), you'll have to uninstall the entire suite first then install the upgrade version of standalone Photoshop CS5. Then enter your CS5 serial number then verify by entering your CS3 serial number.

  • PhotoShop Cs5 to Cs3 Brush issue

    Hello.
Previously I was using PhotoShop CS5 for my personal art design, however i had to switch back to CS3 for various reasons. Having devoted a lot of time and care into my CS5, I saved up my
swatches, styles, brushes, etc..... so I wouldn't lose all my work. I spaced, however, and saved the CS5 brushes with the rest of my generic brushes in the process of a mass save. I no longer have access to CS5, and when I attempt to load the .abr into my CS3, it gives an error.
"Could not load the brushes "D:\etc\etc\etc\Brush Set 1.abr" because the file is not compatible with this version of photoshop."
Is there anyway to get in there and delete those specific brushes, recover the ones I'm after......or.....anything?
    Thanks

Call Customer Service. You will need Photoshop CS3 media as a start as Adobe no longer provides media for older versions.

  • Différence de couleurs - Photoshop CS5 à Indesign CS5

    Bonjour,

  • I cannot open my photoshop cs5, indesign, or illustrator.

None of my adobe programs are opening except bridge

Not what I'd consider a lot more information.
You're here seeking help, and you need to put in some effort to facilitate that.
Try and imagine other users here who could potentially help you diagnose your problems might not feel like begging you for each scrap of pertinent information.  At this point we don't even know what kind of computer you have, what version OS you're running, whether it worked before then started failing, etc.
Not even knowing that basic information people don't even know what to ask you for.  Make sense?
Please try again.  Or not, it's up to you to help others help you.  I'm done here.

  • Photoshop CS5 doesn't import mp4 files?

    Hi everyone,
I have tried literally everything but I'm really lost right now. Photoshop won't import mp4 or any other file, it only accepts avi container files.
It's a pain to convert every single file to avi if I want to use Import > Video frames to layers.
I have already installed Quicktime Pro but that doesn't seem to work.
    Can somebody please help me?

Though Adobe Photoshop CS6/CS5/CS4 was announced to be compatibility with MP4, people still have problems in importing MP4 to Photoshop CS6/CS5/CS4. MP4 file format is a container format which defines the storage of MPEG-4 audio, scenes and multimedia content using the ISO Base Media File Format, the MP4 file may also contain any number of audio, video, and even subtitle streams. So it is impossible for the MP4 file to determine the type of streams in an MPEG-4 file based on its filename extension alone. If you have problem of importing MP4 to Photoshop CS5/CS4/CS3 on Windows or on Mac, it is better to convert MP4 to Photoshop CS6/CS5/CS4 supported video format MPEG-4.

You didn't mention your OS. I just installed the trial on my XP test station and did in fact get an AMT Subsystem Failure -- You Must Reinstall warning, and ID CS3 closed.
I downloaded and ran the Flexnet patch from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=3750&fileID=3528 and all is well.
I don't know what all this patch does, since ostensibly it is a reapir for Acrobat 8 running on Vista, but if memeory serves it's been reliable for fixing that particular error on all versions of Windows with any version of Acrobat.

I have a PC running Windows XP (yes an antique) with CS3 Photoshop and InDesign and lightroom 2 (yes all antiques). I have acquired a PC running Windows 7 with no programs. I also have a MacBook pro  with full CS5 suite. The programs were already loaded with I got it as a gift. Question 1. If I find serial numbers used to download programs to the old PC, can those CS3 programs be put on the newer PC. Question 2. I really want to put CS5 suite on PC machines. Is that possible? Especially since my MacBook is showing some hard drive problems.

You should be able to get the CS3 programs installed and running on the new pc since CS3 is spec-ed for Windows 7 Service Pack 1.  Downloading the programs does not require a serial number.  You can find them here:  Download CS3 products  but you will need the serial number to activate the programs.  You might be able to find that thru your Adobe account online.
You will not be able to install the CS5 Mac version on a PC and you won't be able to trade it to a PC version either due to it being an older version.  Trades are allowed only for the latest version (CS6)

  • I have a psd file made in Photoshop CS5 which I have to send to a Graphic Designer who works with the old Photoshop Version CS3. He can`t open the psd.

What to I have to do now? Is there the same possibility as in InDesign to export it as an Interchange Format (IDML), so that he can open the document without any problems?
    Thank you for your help...

Those are the three possible settings – which one have you chosen?
Regardless, if the psd file has been saved in Photoshop CS5 with Maximized Compatibility it should be able to be opened in Photoshop CS3.
