Photoshop CS5 New Document - RGB as default

I work in the print industry, and do a fair share of copy + paste into a new photoshop document. My photoshop color settings are set as I need them (CMYK), but everytime I create a new document in Photoshop, it defaults to RGB, and I have to change it manually every time.
Does anyone know how I can get this to default to my chosen color settings (the Save Preset option when creating New Document also saves size dimensions, which does not work for me) ? Thanks!

Answer 2: There seems to be no way to uncheck size dimensions when saving the preset. Anything I try remembers dimensions.
Answer 3: We discussed using an action as a workaround if needed, but were hoping to solve them problem. It's just frustrating because under the Save Preset option, it says "Document profile will default to working space if not included in the saved preset." It's not behaving this way, in fact:
A.  It does not default to the last options selected in the new dialog window either.
B.  Also, it does not recognize color settings of my clipboard content (from Illustrator). It defaults to RGB in Photoshop whether I copy/paste from an Illustrator CMYK workspace or RGB workspace.

For one thing you forgot to mention the version of Photoshop you use.
Did you place the image as a Smart Object? Liquify got Smart-capabilities with Photoshop CC.

If prefs are the same as Settings on a MAC, OK, it would have been more

  • Photoshop CS3 New Document Resolution

For some reason when I create a new document in PS3 and then increase the resolution, lets say to 300dpi, the document is created in the default 72dpi resolution. If I want to increase the resolution I have to create a new document with the default 72dpi resolution and then increase it from the image properties.
Does anyone else have the same problem or knows how to fix it?

do you understand what changing that value does? take that 300ppi document fill it with a color and print it.
now create one that's exactly the same in pixel dimensions (568x452) fill that with a color and print that.
does that show you the difference between 72ppi and 300 ppi? for all intent and purpose, there is no on screen difference in the 2 images. the "72" or "300" value is just a bit of what's called "meta" data. data that's not part of the image, but is part of the description of the image. it has no bearing on what you see on the screen. it's only in printing when the resolution comes into play.
    another example from my website:
    http://aikodude.tripod.com/difResTest.html
both images shown are the same pixel dimensions (800x600), but one is 72ppi, one is 300ppi. yet they display exactly the same ON SCREEN. they are essentially the same size on disk when you save them. now try printing them... ;)

  • CS5 New documents open small

Well, I just got a brand new computer, and upgraded to cs5 (from cs2), and I have yet to start even using it... mainly because of a really annoying issue... I like to use my photoshop in windowed mode so I have access to my desktop. This has been fine in cs2, however with cs5 (and no luck in any options... unless i'm missing one) I open a new document, and it always opens INSIDE my windowed minimized screen... so it will open up at about 0.33% as of now...
If I have it it normal maximized mode its fine, this only happens in windowed mode... is there any option to turn this off? when you opened a new file/document is just opened up in the screen, not in the window...
    example:
    img850.imageshack.us/img850/5519/unled2ex.jpg
anyone have any ideas of whats going on? I would really like to be able to use photoshop in windowed mode =/

It tries harder to keep its windows within its application space now, as this is more in tune with Windows' philosophy.
Just drag the bottom of Photoshop's main window down and your new windows will open against the gray Photoshop main window.  You will have to get used to minimizing Photoshop or moving it out of the way to be able to access other things on your disktop.
There is a "kind of" exception if you use two monitors.  I haven't experimented with it much, but documents always seem to open on monitor 1 regardless of whether the Photoshop main window is on monitor 2.  When set up this way, the documents try to open at their 100% size over the top of the desktop (or fit to the monitor if too big for that).
I'll say this:  There may be some other way to arrange things to get closer to what you want, but I haven't seen it.  I keep Photoshop's main window mostly covering my left monitor and panels all on the right one.

  • Indesign CS5 New Document Lagging

    Hi,
I am experiencing a very weird problem with Indesign CS5, when I create a new blank document and turn overprint view on the document lags significantly when scrolling (even though it is blank). However, when I open up an old document I have worked on and view in overprint view there is no lag at all.
Have tried almost everything - with no luck. Am thinking a re-install might be the best way to go.
    Has anyone expereinced this problem?

No problem here, before you try a reinstall try replacing your preferences.

  • PhotoShop CS5 the document exceeds the 2.00G

    Hi sir
I have this problem in a Mac Pro 2012 with Mac OS X 10.8 . When the format PSB is selected  a progress bar appears but before the end , the 2.00G limit appears .
    Can you help me ?
    Thanks

Thanks for your answer . I found the solution with a friend.
Go to the Preferences in PhotoShop and then go to Performance . In Memory Usage move the bar from 70% to 100% .
After that all worked fine .

  • Setting Photoshop CS5 as the default for opening all photo files?

How do I make Photoshop CS5 the default for opening all photo files?

Close the jpeg in Photoshop! This procedure is done on an unopened (closed) file in the finder, Photoshop is not involved.
Open a FINDER window, click ONCE to select your file (NOT double click to open it)
Command I or in the Finder, File menu, select Get Info.
In the GET INFO window, change the Open With item to Photoshop
Click the CHANGE ALL button, You will get the warning "This change will apply to all Adobe Photoshop CS5.app documents with extension “.jpg”.
Click CONTINUE and from now on all jpegs double clicked in the finder will automatically open in Photoshop

  • Changes to Photoshop CS5 and Applescript

Looks like there are some major Applescript changes to CS5, which is unwelcome for anyone with existing scripts. From what I can see, the difference (that affect me anyway) are
    a) PSCS5 seems to dislike referring to files with "as alias" and removing this from my scripts helps them to work, whereas other apps need it, as did previous
    b) apparently script support for referring to the currently document has changed. "if visible layer of current document is true then..." no longer works, nor do document 0, document 1, etc. Anyone know how to refer to the current document?
    c) support for history doesn't seem to be there anymore. I cannot seem to use AS commands like, "set myState to history states as list" or "set current history state to history state newState" were awesome for my workflow, but are they impossible to achieve now?
    d) One more. The important "set docref to make new document with properties {height: 150, width: 150}" is also broken. How would one make a new document in Applescript?
I'd appreciate any help you could give me in updating my scripts

I just found the AppleScript documentation in /Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS5/Scripting/Documents/. But I don't think it's even accurate. Here's a very simple sample they give:
    tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS5"
         filter current layer of the current document using lens blur with options {class:lens blur, radius:13}
    end tell
If I enter this in AppleScript Editor and try to compile it, it selects the word "current" and tells me "Expected end of line but found identifier." It doesn't even recognize "filter" as a command. If I just change that 5 to a 4, it works fine in CS4.
Here's one way to run a JavaScript file from AppleScript:
tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS5" to open file "Path:to:file.jsx"
Of course there's no way to pass any arguments this way, so that greatly limits its usefulness. But perhaps this will be helpful to some people. I'm assuming the JavaScript stuff all works fine, as that seems to be their focus these days.
The really strange thing is that certain things seem to work fine in AppleScripts that are already compiled (using CS4). But if I try to re-save those scripts with CS5 installed, I get errors.

  • Where is the extract filter in photoshop cs5?

Where is the extract filter in photoshop cs5?  Thanks

    from an Adobe Tech Sheet:
Photoshop CS5 can be run as a 64-bit application on Mac OS, 10.5.7 and higher. Because of the changes that were made to the application, some plug-ins are not available when you run Photoshop CS5 either as a 32-bit or a 64-bit application. To work with these plug-ins, run Photoshop CS5 as a 32-bit application, then when you are done using these plug-ins, return to working in Photoshop CS5 as a 64-bit application.
If you copy old plug-ins from previous versions of Photoshop, or third-party plug-ins that are not compatible with Photoshop CS5, into Photoshop CS5's Plug-in folder, you may see different problems, such as errors or crashes.
If you have set the Additional Plug-Ins Folder in the Plug-Ins preferences to a folder, deselect this option, or make sure all the plug-ins in this folder are compatible with Photoshop CS5.
The easiest way to determine if third-party, old plug-ins, or plug-ins from previous versions of Photoshop are causing problems is to move them all into a new folder called "3rd Party plug-ins."
If this folder is outside the Photoshop/Plug-Ins folder, you can use the Additional Plug-Ins Folder Plug-In preference to allow Photoshop to access or not access the plug-ins in this folder.
If this folder is inside the Photoshop/Plug-Ins folder, disable the plug-ins by renaming the folder by putting a tilde (~) as the first character in the folder name.
Plug-ins not supported by Photoshop CS5 on Mac OS, running in 64-bit mode:
    Lighting Effects
Extract (Use Refine Mask under the Selection menu)
    Variations
Web Contact Sheet II (Web Photo Gallery)
TWAIN support will work on some scanners
    Video Preview
    Send Video Preview to Device
    Embed / Read Watermark
    Firewire
    Firewire DLL
To run Photoshop CS5 on Mac OS as a 32-bit application, select the Adobe Photoshop CS5 application file, installed by default in the Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS5 folder. Choose File > Get Info, and select Open in 32 Bit Mode. Deselect this option to run Photoshop CS5 in 64-bit mode.
To determine if a plug-in causes an error or crash, remove all old or third-party plug-ins from the Adobe Photoshop CS5 > Plug-Ins folder, and deselect Additional Plug-ins Folder in the Photoshop > Preferences > Plug-Ins preference.

  • ECC 6.0 - Consideration on creating new document type

    Hi Expert,
My current system is SAP ECC 6.0 with document splitting feature enabled.
Question:  What other things / settings, besides the followings 3, need to be created in order the newly created document type can be up and running?  New document type is merely for FI double entries.
    1) Number range attached to the new document type
    2) Reversal document attached to the new document type
    3) Classify Document Types for Document Splitting for the new document type
    Thanks and regards
    sbmel

These setting are enough for procesisng a new document type.
However you can in addition configure this new document type as default for transactions in case those transactions needed to use only your new document type.

  • Problems installing plug-ins (and even Adobe updates) to Photoshop CS5 Extended on a new Win7 64-bit laptop.Instead, a message box pops up on the CS5 screen saying "could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document."

Problems installing plug-ins to Photoshop CS5 Extended on a new Win7 64-bit laptop.  (Same CS5 and plug-ins installed OK several years ago on a Vista laptop.  Now I'm just trying to migrate everything over to the new laptop.) Even some Adobe updates won't install.  Instead, a message box pops up on the CS5 screen saying "could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document."   Any solution?

CS5's automatic update mechanism is broken, perhaps because it is no longer updated and can't cope with the newer ways of updating.
So this means you will have make a list of the updates that failed, go here: Product updates
    and manually download/install from there.
