Photoshop CS5 Nik Color Efex Pro4

  • Nik Color Efex Pro

I read online that there are issues with Photoshop CC and Nik Color Efex Pro being compatible.  The issue I'm reading about is the Nik plug in being installed into Photoshop CC upon download.  Has this issue been fixed?

Ask the makers of Nik software.  They have had many issues with their plug-ins and only they can't tell you if they have an updated version to address your particular problem.
It's up to Nik to fix their bugs.

  • Aperture 3.6 crashes when using Nik Color Efex Pro 4 (v. 1.2.8)

I have recently bought a collection of Nik Color Efex Pro presets from Flypaper and had it installed within the plug-in. Since then, if I call the plug-in, Aperture will crash when I close it. I have tried to revert to a previous plug-in, dug up from my Time Machine as well as a previous Aperture from the same source. Useless.
I also ran the newly populated plug-in from LS and it operated perfectly. So the plug-in doesn't seem to be corrupted.
    Do you have any suggestion?

Google updated the plugins recently to correct this problem:

Version 1.109 (December 11/2013) is the latest:
Fixed black or white tile artifacts that might have occurred after returning to Photoshop from plug-ins
You can find out the version you have installed by launching Photoshop:
On Mac: Select Photoshop>About Plug-in>Analog Efex Pro… (or any other NIK Plug-in)
On Windows: Select Help>About Plug-in>Analog Efex Pro… (or any other NIK Plug-in)

  • PSCS 3 and Nik Color Efex 3.0 crashing on start.

    Hi All,
Running a MacBook Pro 2.2 Intel, PSCS 3 latest versions of all.
I'm trying to load 'Color Efex 3.0 Complete' (15-day demo version).
Seemed to install fine, but upon re-opening PSCS 3, PS freezes at the end of the launch process, requiring a 'Force Quit'. Seems to be as it's loading the plugins and/or fonts. I have temp removed all my 3rd party Plugins and reloaded one at a time to try to find the conflict. This happens even with Color Efex 3.0 loaded as the ONLY 3rd-party plugin. Seems to have something to do with the 'Selection Folder/Plugin' that comes with Color Efex 3.0. At least that's when it hangs. If I remove that folder, PSCS3 opens fine, but then Color Efex 3, although it seems to allow you to use the filters, doesn't apply them upon clicking the 'OK' button.
Now, I would assume that it's a simple Color Efex issue with this 'Selections' folder trying to load. But here's the rub. When I first loaded the software, it wouldn't open on the first couple of attempts. But then on the 3rd attempt, it did open up fully and I worked with the software for the first entire evening, 5 or 6 hours (2 nights ago). Seems like a great piece of software. I then closed out of PSCS 3 at the end of that session. Now, it WILL NOT reload. It hangs PS every time on start-up. I have to remove it from the plugins folder to get PSCS3 to open up, which after that, does run fine.
FYI, I did also try to 'uninstall' CEFX 3 and re-install it, a couple of times, but that hasn't worked.
Anyone else tried this software, had a similar experience. Any solutions, suggestions.
    Thanks in advance.
    Sol

After trying to fix the problem of Nik 3.0 crashing my PSCS3 on Leopard all day yesterday to no avail, I tried something different this morning and . . . lo and behold . . . it now works fine.
    Here is what I did:
    1. In Finder, I located the Nik Software folder in /Applications/Adobe PhotoshopCS3/Plug-Ins. I then "drag and dropped" the folder Nik Software onto my desktoop.
    2. I then opened PSCS3, and, since the Nik Software folder wasn't in the plug-ins folder anymore, CS3 opened just fine, without crashing.
    3. I clicked on "Photoshop" tab (next to the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen). Click on "Preferences" and then click on "Plug-Ins".
    4. A window will pop up, and there will be a check box for "Additional Plug-Ins Folder". I clicked on the check box and then clicked on the word "Choose".
    5. Another window popped up, and then I located the Nik Software folder on my desktop and clicked on it to select it by clicking on "Choose" again. My Additional Plug-Ins Folder is now listed as "Macintosh HD:Users:####me###:Desktop:Nik:Software: Now click on OK.
    6. To my amazement, When I opened CS3, everything worked fine. The Program opened quickly, and when I opened an image, I could access the Nik Software through the normal CS3 filters tab.
Essentially, I think PSCS3 wants to have the NIK filters accessed through a separate additional plug-ins folder. I'm certain it could be located anywhere (I just left mine on the desktop) as long as the PS program knows where to find it in the other folder.
Wow, the Nik Filter 3.0 program looks great . . . I'm anxious to get back to working with it.
    Hope this helps.

  • Photoshop CS5 ruining color now?

    Hi all.
I captured a screen shot on my Mac using Grab, and pasted it into Photoshop.  The color was way off, with a pinkish cast added.  You can see a comparison here; the original is on the left and Photoshop is on the right.
I brought this split-screen shot into PS and the cast got even worse.  I tried both TIFFs and PNGs, and Photoshop is wrecking the color.  I can't find any explanation in the settings.  Any ideas?  PS is pretty much unusable at this point.

Mobius Strip, discussing the profile of screen grabs is all distracting twaddle…
Since you don't seem to be aware of this, your Color settings are located here Edit > Color Settings. You need to make sure these settings match in CS4 and 5, and that no "Convert to…" settings are switched on in either. 'Convert To…" will automatically convert opened documents to your default profiles, specified in this dialog. Which you don't want.
You need to develop some basic understanding of Color Management.
what is Photoshop displaying when "proof color" is off?  Because it's not what other apps are showing from the same files.
It is attempting to display the actual colors contained within the document. Whatever profile that document may be in. It uses the monitor profile, which it assumes to be accurate, to do this. This attempt is restricted only by the full gamut (range of colors) available on your monitor.
There were no changes to Color Management features between Photoshop CS4 and CS5. In every resect they will display colors the same. To be 100% sure than Photoshop is behaving the same in both cases, make sure also that Open GL is consistently switched on or off for both versions.

  • Photoshop CS5: Any color with zero red information will turn black

I've been having this problem ever since I installed Photoshop CS5 (12.0.4) on a Windows 7 64-bit machine. I've used the program on a Windows Vista 64-bit PC in the past with no problems.
Any color that has zero red information will turn black when in RGB mode and in either 8 or 16-bit mode. If I use the paintbrush, for example, a color with RGB 0/100/100 will be black. However, the color 1/100/100 will not. This problem also occurs with imported images. I've only tried JPEG and PNG so far. The problem does not save out though, as any image exported from Photoshop will appear fine. The issue seems to go away when in 32-bit mode, but it's a little RAM-intensive, and the file sizes are quite large.
I have reinstalled Photoshop, reset its preferences, and reinstalled my video card's drivers (I have a Radeon HD 7870). My PC has 8 GB of RAM and plenty of free hard drive space.
Below is a screencap of what's going on. I'm a bit lost here...any help would be greatly appreciated!

    It's a well-known issue with current ATI drivers and Photoshop's GPU-accelerated color-management logic.
You can work around it a couple of different ways:
    1.  You can install ATI's latest Catalyst 13.2 beta driver, which does solve the problem, or you can uninstall and drop back to Catalyst 12.8.
    2.  You can switch to Basic GPU mode (and restart Photoshop).  Basic mode moves the color-management logic into the CPU.  This might be a workaround you'd prefer to take until AMD releases their next non-beta driver where the problem is solved.

  • Photoshop CS5 shows colors incorrectly on my CintiqUX21

All I know is that it is really just Photoshop, When viewing images or documents on the Cintiq they display the same colors as on my main monitor.
But when I draw something in Photoshop the colors are more saturated. This is especcially noticable when I undock the working space and drag it on my main monitor.
Testing with a rainbow gradient I can see that relative to my main monitor the purple gets darker and the blue gets stronger; almost turning into a solid bar rather than a gradient. The green also gets slightly lighter.
    What am I doing wrong?

Hmmm I've been working in sRGB IEC61966-2.1 Always have been, never really changed it.
Appearantly there is an option called Cintiq12wx.icc which seems to work better. (The blue is still a bit strong but it ain't no solid bar any longer)
    It is a great improvement!
    Thank you Mylenium! Good guess!

  • Lightroom 5 - Nik Color efex Pro 3.0

    Hallo zusammen,

  • Adobe Photoshop CS5  has stopped working (weird)

    well i'm using
Photoshop CS5 (Extended) With Sum Plugins
    Alien SKin Bokeh
    Nik Color Efex Pro
    Dfine
    Imagenomic Portraiture
when i had CS4, no problems were happening.

when i work with this plugins. doesn't matter which one, it sumtimes crashes and say, Adobe Photosop Has Stopped Working,
i really have no clue, how this issue can be fixed.. any suggestions would be much appreciated

VGA Card- Nvidia 8600 GT ( I have updated the latest driver to ENABLE OPEN GL)
    2 GB OF RAM
    350 HDD

    OS Vesion: Windows 7 X86

As a plugin developer myself, I can tell you that the problem is most likely in the plugin if it starts/stops working properly because of changes to the memory size allocated to Photoshop.
It's unbelievable how many people fail to program simple error handling robustness into their code - the error in this case being insufficient memory in which to work.  In most cases it takes no more effort than this:
    BufferPointer = malloc(RequiredSize);
    if (BufferPointer == NULL)
         *gResult = memFullErr;
         return;
(Note that I usually frown on return from within a module myself; this is just an example - I prefer a single function exit at the bottom)
Given that the consequence of using a bad pointer can be crashing Photoshop and the loss of the user's work, you'd think plugin designers would be more concerned with proper error handling.
    -Noel
P.S., Depending on what else you'd like to be able to do on your system while running Photoshop, it isn't out of the question to allocate quite a bit more memory than you have to Photoshop in the Performance settings  (e.g., 75% or even higher).  The thing to do is to try it.

  • CS6 slow startup, hanging on Color Efex Pro 4

I'm in Lightroom 4.  When I do an "Edit in Photoshop CS6", it takes a very long time (usually over a minute) for PS6 to start up.
The splash screen comes up right away and hangs on the "loading Color Evex Pro 4" for a long time.  It eventually starts, but this is really annoying.
CS5 starts up within a few seconds.

I removed all the Nik filters and PS6 starts up quickly.
Reinstalled Nik Viveza 2 and PS6 still starts up quickly.
Reinstalled Nik Color Efex 4 and PS6 took two minutes to start up.
So, it’s something with Color Efex 4.  What I don’t understand is why PS5 starts fast and PS6 starts slowly.
I’m on a Dell XPS running Win 7 64 bit and have 6 Gb of memory.

  • Color efex pro in elements 9

    Hi all,
This has probably been covered before but I couldn't find it by searching. I can't find my Nik Color Efex pro in my elements 9. I have it in Lightroom and Elements 7. So I have to use it in 7 save and then open again in 9.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks, GD

Ummm, sorry, I wasn't clear. What I meant was find the folders where the efex pro files are residing in PSE 7; then, move the files in these folders to the same folders in PSE 9.
