Photoshop cs5-no video card detected in GPU settings

Running photoshop cs5 on a new iMac 27in with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M video card.  Under performance preferences GPU settings is not detecting the card.  What do i need to fix??

Same issue here.
Running the same system here with the Geforce GTX 775m. Currently running OS 10.9.5.  Photoshop CC 2014 shows no GPU detected under Preferences and all video card related options are disabled.  I've tried installing nVidia's web driver, but it's not compatible, unfortunately.  The 10.9.5 update hasn't helped either and I haven't found any further driver update from Apple.
Is there a way to force detection or manually specify video card specs?

set to 2 virtual external discs with about 900gb hard drive.
the latest photoshop CS5
the latest Macbook pro 15" i7 with 8gb ram
When I open this file, the refresh seems to go off crazy into bitmap and cannot preview properly. Here is a sample:
It also hangs my computer and i have to hard restart.
Do I need to set a proper way for photoshop to make it work on my latest MBP?
Please advise as I am stuck now, thank you
Calvin

Your "card" (it's actually integrated into the motherboard) doesn't support Shader Model 3.0 which is needed for the OpenGL and 3D features from Photoshop. Nothing you can do about it except buying a new one.

• Photoshop CS5 Qualified Graphic Cards

Updating computers to Windows 7 64bit with a new graphics card and need to know Adobe's recommended graphic cards for Photoshop CS5. Is there any information regarding this. They have them listed for Photoshop CS4. I would like to be like a good carpenter and measure twice and only cut once.
Thanks.

CS5 still says there is a GPU problem and when I look in "preferences/Performance", there is NO video card detected. Every time I re-enable the GPU, CS5 turns it back off. Anybody have any hints? The ATI 4000 series is a supported GPU.
The 32 bit Catalyst 10.7 drivers do that to me too at the moment (I have an ATI Radeon HD 4670 card) - OpenGL cannot be enabled in Photoshop 32 bit (it reports the somewhat bogus error message "No GPU Options Available in Photoshop Standard").  Photoshop 64 bit loves the 64 bit drivers from the very same set, though.
Clearly the ATI developers have something wrong in the latest 32 bit drivers.
This has been a problem since 10.5 and I have reported the problem to ATI. I suggest you do so as well.  Perhaps if enough people complain they'll start testing their new driver releases with Photoshop CS5, which I don't think they're doing now.
For what it's worth, I am discovering quirks in the OpenGL implementations of the various drivers from the various video card makers myself as I do my own OpenGL software development.  The realm of OpenGL and graphics drivers is highly complex, evolving rapidly, and more oriented to gamers than serious users with, e.g., Photoshop.
If you're interested, I posted some info in this thread about how to override Photoshop's default startup OpenGL checking, which can allow you for test purposes to enable Photoshop's OpenGL features despite whatever's failing:

• Video Card Detection

I have 2 Video Cards installed an ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT (Vram 256 MB) and a ATI Radeon HD 5700 (Vram 1024 MB) In my Performance GPU Settings only the 2600 is recognized. Can Photoshop CS5 recognize and access both cards? Must I remove the 2600 in order to access the better performing 5600?
Thank you

Apple's support for more than one card is abysmal.  Don't even attempt to run two different cards that are not identical to each other.
There are several existing threads dealing with this.

Most people come here to solve problem before asking MSI Tech support, because myself and many other think they are well skilled user here, but I do say there lack resource here to do any testing. There really no need to post any more info about this issue, but at this time those video card didn't work until bios 1.6. Clearly it not PSU, CPU, or RAM causing this issue, which I've already made clear in other post.
I was welcome to more feedback on any other video cards that didn't work. At the end of the day only thing we could have really do is report back to MSI about our problems.
I do think that when comes down to it, big issue that impact many user in same way, only really support is contact the manufacture. Along the way I do my best to help everyone, at the end of this problem I'm happy to report that I took the time to solve and answers the questions of user using this board, well I do this daily anyway ~yawns~ make me so tired

• Photoshop CS6 (extended)  Video card minimum requirements.

Can you tell me if my video card is adequate for using the 3D feature in CS6 Extended?  The 3D tools don't seem to work.  I get  the message below.  Do I need an updated video card or driver? Let me know if you need more information. Thank You.

The CS6 Minimum requirements are here. http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/system-requirements-photoshop.html
You need at least 512 MB of video ram to use 3D.
You go to Photoshop's Help Menu and select System Info. I copied and pasted my video card info and as you can see I don't have enough video ram for 3D and it's dimmed out. No driver update will help.

• What is a great video card that supports GPU acceleration?

A customer of mine wants to speed up his Adobe Lightroom 6 setup.  He has various SSD's, and is ready to upgrade his graphics card to take advantage of the GPU acceleration found in LR 6.  I was wondering if there was an up to date list of suggested, or sought after LR video cards?
Thanks!

On my system with an an i7-860 cpu and Nvidia Quadro 600 graphics card there's no benefit from LR CC GPU support. In fact when browsing image files in the Develop module there is an additional `1.5 to 2 sec. delay before the image becomes fully sharp. I suspect my i7 860 Quad Core processor is actually faster than my Quadro 600 GPU for updating the image previews, so I have it disabled. In addition there have been numerous reports form people with AMD GPU based graphics cards due to driver incompatibility.
My best suggestion is to get the highest performance Nvidia graphics card the customer can afford. If the customer also uses PS and a 30 bit (10 bit/color) monitor you will need an Nvidia Quadro model card. AMD FIrePro supports 30 bit color, but as mentioned many users currently have driver compatibility issues with LR CC. PassMark is a good site for benchmark comparison:
PassMark Software - Video Card (GPU) Benchmark Charts
If the card is strictly for speeding up LR CC I'd hold off for a while until the dust settles.

• PS CS5 claims my video cards have zero memory, no GPU access!

Hi folks
Firsrt post here. I hope some one can assist as I have been dealing with this issue for few days now. My hard drive died last week...had to reinstall everything. Now, for some reason Photoshop refuses to enable OpenGL access even though before I was able to use Photoshop with same video cards. I have reinstalled the app multiple times, reset prefs many times, installed various versions of my video card drivers (right now I am on the latest drive). I checked Adobe and NVidia sites and my cards are listed as supported. I checked Device driver (shows cards installed ok) and Windows sees my cards and I check Direct X diagnostics and it sees my cards memories.
Here are my specs:
Windows Vista 32
2 x NVidia Geforce 8800 GTX (have a 512 memory each, not running SLI)
4 Gigs of RAM
2 x 500 Gig WD drives
Wacom Cintiq as second display
I know my OpenGL works because I am able to run Modo fine. I checked in Device Manager and all seems ok.

• PS CS5.5 No Longer Detects GPU

On 9-4-2012, I was given a brand new Dell at work. At about 1pm on 9-12-2012, I noticed scrubby zoom had stopped working. I checked Preferences>Performance>GPU Settings, and I’m told the graphics acceleration is unavailable. I found that very strange, as I had been using said acceleration for over a week.
I've spent several hours searching for a solution, but found nothing that even remotely addresses both my problem and circumstance.
I'm not an idiot, I've been using Photoshop since 1998 and I've been building computers as a side business since 2001. I don’t have a giant magnet sitting next to my computer, and said computer isn’t resting in 3 inches of water. There are no tin foil covered Honey Badgers running amok inside my computer case.
Yes, I have rebooted my computer.
Yes, all my video/device drivers are up to date.
Yes, Windows is up to do date.
Yes, all Adobe products are up to date.
Yes, all my Adobe products are legit.

Yes, my video card (Nvidia Quadro 600) is official supported by Adobe…

No, I’m not using any third party plug-in’s
No, I have no cheap off brand nonsense installed or plugged into this computer. It’s exactly how Dell shipped it, but with Adobe CS5.5.
I’ve attached a screen cap showing my specs and that all my drivers are up to date.
Let me just reiterate. At 11am this feature was working fine. At 1 pm it was not. I did nothing to this machine between that time, other than reboot Photoshop. And please, no "Buy a Mac" responces. Don't you think I'd have one if my company was willing to buy me one?

• Video card issue

I am currently running Photoshop CS5 and my video card is an ATI Radeon HD5400, when I open Photoshop and check the prefrences I see the graphics card listed and Enable OpenGL Drawing is ticked. However as soon as I open an image or new document, and check the prefrences (performance) the GPU settings are greyed out, I have downloaded the latest drivers for the card (as at 13 December 2011). Prior to opening the initial image I have gone to the advanced settings in the GPU settings and changed to basic, this had no effect!, everything works fine in PS except the GPU functions, any help wopuld be much appreciated.

Hm, I got mixed results.
Catalyst 11.12 seems to support OpenGL okay for Photoshop on my video card, and my own apps seem to work fine with it.
But...
I did manage to get Photoshop to drop out of OpenGL mode during editing under some conditions...  The checkbox was still checked in the Edit - Preferences - Performance dialog, but the display of the open document actually reverted to GDI operation.  What I normally do to test is select the Zoom Tool and click and hold the left mouse button.  If the screen zooms in smoothly, OpenGL is active.
Thing is, in EVERY case where I could reproduce this behavior, I opened an image through Camera Raw.
In EVERY case where I DIDN'T open an image through Camera Raw (even the very SAME image I had opened before, which I had also saved as a PSD), I could NOT get Photoshop to drop out of OpenGL.
Having updated Camera Raw to 6.6 just yesterday, and for that matter having taken about a dozen Windows Updates, as well as updating the ATI Catalyst drivers to 11.12, things may be a bit muddled.  Plus, I'm not sure whether going through these same gyrations might have done the same thing before.
More testing is needed.

• Photoshop CS5 and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295 Crash

My specifications:
Photoshop CS5 (x64)
Windows 7 x64
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295 (latest v197.45 driver)
Intel i7 920 2.67 GHz
My card is listed as a tested card for CS5 and NVIDIA says this is compatible with CS5, but today after using it, my screen went blank and the display driver recovered itself. It took about 5 minutes until Photoshop CS5 became responsive again and the GPU features were disabled. I am going to try GPU advanced mode and basic mode instead of normal mode to see what happens, but this is a shame that I have issues like this. I also had issues with CS4 like this.
What I did to cause this issue: I clicked" Place.." to place an object and that is when it crashed. It only happens randomly as I use Photoshop. Please NVIDIA or Adobe fix this issue. I love the GPU features and I want to run them, but this crashing is annoying for spending so much on buying this product. I hate to have to pay to contact Adobe technical support, it should be included with the purchase of software!
How to fix this without having to go to basic GPU mode or disabled GPU mode?

With my own problems and a keen observer of this thread it making me think that I should stay away from Nvidia cards cards completed and go ATI
It comes down to policies within companies that in some cases we simply cannot know.
For example:
Does nVidia or ATI have a better plan to support cards with new drivers into the future?  My experience is that right now, with my particular video card, ATI does a better job of making new features available (and making them work right) than nVidia.  Is this based on support policy or simply what the engineers can and can't do?  Maybe it's partially a matter of funding.
Who has a better handle on how to develop unified software and keep it working on all a whole family of cards?  What is their software quality?  I am active on Windows forums, and it sure seemed to take nVidia a lot longer to stabilize their drivers for Windows 7 than ATI.
Who has a better test lab?  You can imagine that if one company has a better built/funded/maintained test lab, they're more likely to make new versions of drivers for old cards work properly if they have a computer set aside somewhere with that old card in it just waiting to try out new drivers.  Unfortunately you can imagine with these companies making many, many new models all the time that funding that lab (and funding the MAINTENANCE of that lab) could get to be HUGE!
Lastly, how much do Marketing or other greedy business people influence company direction, vs. Engineers?  Imagine a Marketing person's thoughts:  "Stop making new drivers for that old card; we're not selling those and haven't for a long time.  If a person has one and can't run the latest game or graphics software, he'll go buy a new one, and that's more money for us."
By the way, just to get an idea of how many different cards we're talking about, look at the sheer number of models listed in the various lists on this page:  http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/
Just food for thought.

• OpenGL issue when launching Photoshop CS5 Extended from Lightroom?

I noticed about 2 weeks ago that the scrubby zoom and rotate commands stopped working.  Obviously OpenGL was not
enabled and was greyed out, not letting me enable it.  I have a 295GTX video card with dual GPU's and I have updated all drivers NVidia 280.26.  When I went through the Adobe troubleshoot doc I reset my preferences/defaults by holding <CTRL><ALT><SHIFT> when launching Photoshop and it allows me to enable it.  I can even open a bunch of images and everything works but only if I open them FROM within Photoshop.  If I pick an image from Lightroom (Latest Version) and launch it to photoshop it will not allow me to run OpenGL features any longer and the only way I can get it to work again is to reset it doing the <CTRL><ALT><SHIFT> move.
Any suggestions or knowlege of issues / bugs?

As a temporary workaround, you can uninstall the driver and try using an earlier release.  Sometimes they break new things with new releases.

• Photoshop CS5 content-aware scale

Hi, I'm a photoshop CS5.1 64 bits user, I'm following the "Learn adobe photoshop CS5 by video" with the instructor  Kelly McCathran. Well, I need to know how to create two layers with different sizes to apply content-aware scale...I can't! I import a picture (4000x3000) from adobe bridge...When I create a layer with a different dimension (3000x2000) the picture (4000x3000) turns to (3000x2000)!!! What am I supposed to do?

With the smaller image appearing with the larger one in Photoshop, click on the smaller image in its Layers panel and drag it over the larger image.
Once the smaller image is sitting on top of the larger one in the Layers panel, you can change the size of the smaller image by using Edit > Transform > Scale.
Hold down the Shift key as you alter the scale, the image maintains proportion.

• Which computer screen and video card are best for editing photo's with CS6?

I edit my photos with Photoshop CS6, and want to buy a new windows computer and screen. What are good screens and do I also have to purchase a special video card? Greetings, Wil.
[ email signature removed - see http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-3731 ]

I'm personally fond of a new Dell Ultrasharp U3014 monitor I got several months ago.  I have a video card a couple of years old - an ATI Radeon HD 7850 with 2GB VRAM, and it drives the big 30" monitor as well as my two older 20" monitors turned up sideways perfectly, to make a Photoshop editing station that's potent.  All the various Photoshop panels are on the sides, and the entire central monitor is available for the actual editing.
As far as computers go, I've yet to find a machine better for Photoshop work than a Dell Precision Workstation.  Others will of course have their own opinions.
It's possible to find off-lease workstations, such as the Precision T5500 system shown above, being sold used on eBay by refurbishers.  Depending on who you choose you might even get a Dell warranty (I did).  Their newer T5600 line is current, which makes the just off cutting edge systems cheaper.  You can score a good deal this way, but you need to educate yourself very well on the options before choosing a model with particular set of features.  Another member on here (JJMack) got a good deal on a Precision T5600 refurbed from Dell direct.  I hope he chimes in and describes his experience with his T5600.
Some things to think about:
SSD storage is greatly preferable over HDD storage, and is well worth the additional cost.  Do not skimp here.  Get more than you need.  Consider building a RAID array of them.
More RAM is better, and much more is much better.
A good balance between individual core speed and core count is needed.  Too much of one and not enough of the other isn't as good.
If you want multiple monitors, a single modern video card that can drive multiple monitors is essential; don't try to run Photoshop with multiple video cards.
