Photoshop CS5 photomerge with dng files crashes

hello and greetings from Finland,
I have constant problems with photomerge tool when using dng files converted from Nikon´s nef files. Photomerge loads all pictures, normally 4-6, starts to align them etc. process seemst to be running just fine. Just before finished panorama picture should appear to screen, photoshop returns to default state. With original nef files, everything works just fine. This happens only with dng files. I´m using iMac (i5 processor with 12 GB RAM, cache for Photoshop in separate HD etc.)
So far I have tried following tricks for this problem; several resets for Photoshop settings file and reboot after that. Uninstalled and reinstalled whole Ps twice. Used two different, formatted memory cards in camera (Nikon D700).
After those, no help. Maybe second reinstall gave some relief for this, dng files worked fine couple of times, but now I have that same error again and I´m running out of ideas what to do next. And once again, I have this problem only with dng´s.
Any similar experiences? Did you managed to get things work again? How?

I don't mean to break your rocks, Chris, but try to keep some perspective... A component of Photoshop exiting abnormally (and delivering no results) is a crash to any user who doesn't have a deep insight as to how it's implemented. Maybe it's not as serious as a "whole Photoshop crash with loss of data", but it's not an unreasonable interpretation.
"Not finishing" could be your internal definition of it, and I might even agree with your terminology if it just popped up a message saying "The price of tea in China has risen too high - Photomerge must exit", but just quitting without any message is a crash by any reasonable definition.
Regardless of what Adobe may say, rillumarei, I personally have come to believe Camera Raw leaves some corruption of memory somewhere as I've found any editing session after a Camera Raw run seems a little more likely to fail than one where a PSD or other "normal" image format is opened (without Camera Raw).

Photoshop cs5 is not appending file extensions

in previous versions, photoshop appended to the file extension in the fiel save/save as dialog box. it no longer does this and when you save a file it does not append the file extension to the file name, resulting in unknown fiel type.
i am running windows 7 64-bit with photoshp cs5.
it does not make any since to have the option of appending the file extension if the program is not going to do it.

Loading updates fails at the end of the loading. Tried it yesterday and today same errors. Are the files corrupted at server or how to fix this ?

Using Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended with MacBook Pro Retina

I intend to buy the new MacBook Pro with retina display. Does anyone know if I will be able to use Photoshop CS5 Extended with it? I could upgrade to CS6 but it seems an unnecessary cost given that I am still quite happy with CS5.

CS5 does not offer Retina quality display - in fact, it looks awful. The current version of CS6 was updated to work with Retina display models (you'll need to check with Adobe to see what the current version of CS6 is... I know they haven't 'abandoned' it, but I subscribe to CC so I'm on CC 2014).

My computer died and I have to buy a new one which will probably come with Windows 8. Is Photoshop CS5 compatible with Windows 8? I can't seem to find a straight answer.

It is not officially supported as the OS was not available with CS5 was written. It will work on it however.
From what I have read Win 8 is a step down from Win 7 from a purely operational view. It also has an annoying problem with the screen blinking with many of the video cards. So see if you really like the features of Win8 before committing. Win7 should still be available but you would have to make it a special request.

I need to get a new photoshop, mine is out of date. Will Photoshop CS5 work with OS 10.7.2? Adobe doesn't include 10.7.2 in their tech specs.

It's also possible you may have to reinstall photoshop cs5 even after installing the above java, because sometimes the upgrade to mac os x 10.10 messes up the photoshop cs5 installation.

Adobe Lens Profile Creator Crashes with DNG files

Hi, I'm using Win 7 with the latest version of the Adobe Lens Profile Creator, v 1.0.4. I have no issues generating profiles from jpeg or tiff files, but every time I try to add a DNG file, I get a "Adobe Lens Profile Creator has stopped working..." error message. The DNG files were created from a Canon 5D Mk II .CR2, using the latest DNR converter 7.3.

It remains a profile created from jpg source, CameraRaw could consider it like a raw lens profile but it has no more value than a jpg profile, I believe...

Photoshop cs5 photomerge crash

i have photoshop cs5(x64 & x32) install onto my asus n82j, which runs on win7 64bit, i5-520m, geforce gt 335m (vram 1gb), 4gb ram, 34gb of free space on my c drive. I can use everything without a problem except photomerge, whenever i click Automate>Photomerge, photoshop stops working and crash.

Fair enough. Something's changed on your system, then.
Things that can cause Photoshop to fail:
Newly installed 3rd party plug-in, but which is incompatible or has a problem.
Newly installed font.
Newly installed driver (e.g., for the display, by Windows Update).
Corrupted preferences.
You should know if you installed a plug-in or font, and if a driver update caused the problem you can usually get a better driver from the web site of the maker of your display adapter (video card).
To reset Photoshop's preferences to defaults, you can press and hold Control-Shift-Alt immediately after starting Photoshop from its menu entry or shortcut. You have to be quick. Keep in mind you'll have to reconfigure a lot of things again if you've changed them from defaults.

Why does Camera Raw 6.7.1 w/ Photoshop CS5 not convert raw files from a Nikon D610 camera?

I just upgraded my Nikon D90 camera to a D610. I've been using Adobe Bridge to manage my photos made with the D90, and Camera Raw 6.3 to convert the raw files for use in Photoshop CS5. The new D610 writes different raw files, so I upgraded Camera Raw to the latest version (6.7.1) which is said to be compatable with the latest Nikon cameras.
The D90 files still convert fine with Camera Raw 6.7.1, but the raw files from the D610 cannot be read. Does anyone have any insight into why not?

There will not be another update for Camera Raw 6.x which is the version that is compatible with Photoshop CS5. So you will not have a way to natively open your NEF files from the Nikon D610. But you can download the DNG converter (version 8.3 RC) from Adobe Labs and use it to create digital negative copies of your NEF files. And then you can use those with the Camera Raw that you already have. Other alternatives would be to upgrade to Photoshop CC, or Photoshop Elements 12, or add Lightroom to your workflow. If you choose Lightroom you would have to use the 5.3 release candidate at this point to have support for your camera. It will, of course, be supported in the final version of Lightroom 5.3 as well as all subsequent versions of Lightroom.

Photoshop CS5 - OnOne PhotoTools round trip crashes post Lion upgrade

Any other OnOne PhotoSuite 5.5 and CS5 users out there seeing this?
Problem Description: When I take an image in CS5 into OnOne's PhotoTools 2.6, make some adjustments and click Apply then upon its return to CS5 it will process the changes and then crash just as it's about to render the updated image in CS5
Recreate Steps: Open an image in CS5. Then File->Automate->PhotoTools 2.6. Within PhotoTools apply some adjustments (I applied Local Contrast, Grunge and Digital Fill) -> Apply. It will then go back into CS5, you will see the usual progress bar go to 100% and then when it goes to render the image it will crash.

Hark! Is that the sound of the sanctimonious self-righteous, self-appointed forum police? I believe it is!
I love how in forums you get these long standing forum regulars who like to puff out their chest and respond with "google it', 'do your due diligence' - basically they treat 'their' forum as though it's the last place anyone should post and that one should have tried every other option before posting here.
So, let's me just set the record straight regarding my specific problem detailed in the first post.
Photoshop CS5 was crashing. I could get through the OnOne software and back to CS5, only when it went to render the image did it crash. This meant it was one of three potential issues
1) A local environment issue. Something with my set up. Hence my question whether anyone else was seeing this
2) A general problem with plugins in CS5 since upgrading to Lion
3) A problem specific to OnOne's plugins
Based on this it's entirely appropriate for me to ask the question I did in the first post while simultaneously looking around the web for other reported incidents. Also, when I did find the answer I returned to this thread and updated it JUST in case anyone in the future sees the problem. I'll also update this thread with the actual version OnOne release too that fixes this problem so that future persons who perhaps upgrade to Lion many months from now will find the answer quickly along with the what version they will need or later.
So I thank you for your pointless reply and suggest that if that's the best you can offer then you can remain benevolent for all the good it would do me or anyone else.

Update for photoshop cs5 not working, deletes files before installl happens

My computer crashed, so I rebuilt it. I installed photoshop CS5 with no errors. I go to update it and it downloads without any problems. Then when it goes to install it errors out. I found that just as one part of the update is 100% downloaded, it is deleted. And this happens for each and every part of the update, so when it goes to install the updates, there is no files to do that with.

I went to that web site and downloaded those files. And what happens? Most of the files extract without any problem, but the one that errror out on every single one I downloaded was the AdobepatchInstaller.exe. I have 2 computer and tried it on both computers and both said the same thing. When it does extract it, it says it is corrept. So now how is that my computers fault????

If that is the case something is wrong with your set up. The slider bottom right Yammer p pointed you to does alter the size of the thumbnails, not the panel itself.
Top right are the workspace names, at the right of it is triangle, click on it and choose reset workspace. Otherwise restart bridge holding down option (mac) or control (win) when restarting bridge and choose reset preferences.
If still out of luck provide more details about your computer (RAM / VRAM) OS version and exact Bridge version.
