Photoshop CS5 shows canvas with old image when opening a NEW file
Hi,
Everytime I try to create a new file in photoshop with FIle->New, the same last image I was working on shows in the canvas.
This is bizarre behavior. Has anyone encountered this problem?

Sounds like a buffer isn't being cleared in the display driver...
Visit the web site of the maker of your video card and download/install the latest video driver for your particular hardware and OS.

Has any encountered jumbled images when opening a new file?
When I open an image on CC 2014 it appears jumbled with various other images and random purple shapes. I had this same problem with CS6, but was hoping that when upgrading to CC 2014 the problem would resolve - it hasn't. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm working on a MAC.

Feh showing black images when opening certain .bmp files
Hi all,
I've been using feh (I'm using imagemagick too) from quite a bit and today I noticed it shows plain black images when opening certain .bmp files, those files are obtained from a Java WebService and they may not be correcty formed, still firefox can correctly visualize them. Would it be possible to make feh correctly display them ?I've set Photoshop to ask me if there's a conflict with embedded color schemes but it doesn't ask when opening this file. So I presume it doesn't use any specific profile. (Can I check this directly somehow?)
EDIT: I've now set to ask if there is no profile embedded and Photoshop now says that the image has no embedded RGB profile.
My color profile within Photoshop is set to sRGB which is the default for my display.
When I try switching to other RGB profiles in the list, the colors change but the distortions are still there no matter which profile I choose. -
I have Photoshop CS5.5 Design Premium and need to open Nikon NEF files
I have Photoshop CS5.5 Design Premium and need to open Nikon NEF files.
I just downloaded the plug in for CS5.5 and it does not work. I put the Camera Raw.8bi file in the correct location as specifiec in the "read me" file.
Can someone guide me on how to do this, adn make it work?

I ran DNG program for Windows (I have Win 8) and ran the menu to convert
the files on the same memory card from the camera. Of 135 files, the
status column for the first 68 files said "converted," but the for all the
rest, it says "There was an error writing the file."
Of the files that "converted," they do not open, and I get the same error
message as before: "Could not complete your request because it is not the
right kind of document."
So, what a mess.
I get conflicting indications of the version of Photoshop I have. When i
click "About Photoshop in the Help menu, it says CS5 Extended. The Error
message for the dng files says CS5.1 Extended. Does it make a difference?
I've been at this three hours now. It's a pain. For many years I had no
problem with NEF files, as I had installed the plug-in as required. This
time it is not working. So I am not new to this.

[SOLVED] KDE switches activities when opening a new File
First off, I've been using KDE Plasma Workspaces for a few months now, and for the most part am largely satisfied. Thanks to both the developers of KDE and to the contributors on Arch who made setting everything up a breeze.
One thing that does annoy me however is how it switches Activities when opening a new file, if the default application already has a running instance. For instance, say I have one Activity which I am using as a development environment and have Kate open to view source. Now I switch to a second Activity where I am working on editing style sheets for my web page and again wish to use Kate. If I open Dolphin and click on one of my style sheets (launching Kate as the default editor) I will be switched back to my first Activity and have the style sheet opened in the already running instance of Kate.
To me this behavior is not ideal, I would rather have the DE spawn a new instance of kate for that Activity. I've perused through some of the settings options but haven't seen anything obvious.

Also, these suggestions are specific to Kate, where I would like this behavior to extend across KDE.
Maybe I am just making a big fuss over nothing, but for me it seems more appropriate to spawn a new instance of a program if I click on a file from a file browser, such as Dolphin. If I wanted to open a file in an already running instance of a program I would use Ctrl+O from that program, or drag the file over to the program as schmidtbag suggested.
I'm thinking about reposting over at kde.org, I'll be sure to follow up back over here, no matter what the outcome is. -
Photoshop CS5 - what is causing major delay when opening files?
New laptop running windows 7, 64 bit machine, i5 intel core processor, NVIDIA NVS 3100M graphics card. When I open new pictures in photoshop there is a significant delay - the pointer just sits for several seconds seeming to 'look' for files, then the round (new hourglass in 7) rotates forever! I timed this new machine with a 7 year old Dell Latitute running CS1 photoshop - opened 11 photos from each hard drive...the 7 year old computer opened them in 15 seconds, the NEW machine took 80 seconds. I'm not trying to do anything fance with Photoshop, just simple photo corrections, so I don't need a fancy graphics card. WHY is it taking so long to open files - I've changed every setting Adobe recommends and nothing helps. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

No active layers and error when opening a new file
I've been having this problem with my PS CS5 for awhile now. A little while ago I accidently pushed a shortcut, or something, though I can't remember what keys I pushed down because it was in a hurry. And since then I can't use the adjustments under Image or the filters. Everytime I try it looks like this;
And when I try to open a new file it looks like this (and I tried to open a 100px x 100px file here):

As with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems you might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed) by pressing command-alt-shift on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.
System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts, cleaning caches, etc.) might also be beneficial, Onyx has been recommended for such tasks.

Weeding out bad fonts never seems to be a bad idea, either. (Validate your fonts in Font Book and remove the bad ones.) -
How do I resolve issues with missing layers when opening a Tiff file from Photoshop CS5.1?
I am downloading Tiff images from a partners website. After extracting the file and opening from Photoshop CS5.1 it's only displaying one of the original image layers. For example and image with two guys shaking hands in an office is only opening the clipped two guys and not showing the backgroud. The vendor says the files open fine on their end which leads me to believe its a download or photoshop issue. Any recommendations?
Thanks Curt... I don't think my explanation was clear. I'm downloading an image from an external webiste. The image downloads in a ZIP archive. After extracting from the Zip file, I go into photoshop and do file open. Only part of the image appears. It looks as if it's the top layer of a photoshop image but since I didn't build the image, I'm not certain it was built with multiple layers. Any ideas?

Photoshop CS3 Freezes When Opening/Creating New Files
My System: Mac OSX 10.5.8, 2.1GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
My Problem:
It seems to be that if I download print drivers Photoshop will freeze anytime I want to open or create a new file. This problem arose when I downloaded a new print driver (unfortunately after deleting several others to ensure the problem was fixed). I was able to delete the print driver resolving this issue, but now it seems to be that anytime I download a new print driver, even though these previous print drivers had been on my computer before it freezes PS again. These previous drivers had worked perfectly fine when I had PS on my system before and I can't understand why all of the sudden now PS won't work with them.Because of a bug in the printer drivers.
Photoshop asks for basic information ("name of printer", "default page size", etc.) when creating a document.
If the printer driver has serious bugs, then it may hang or crash at this point. -
Photoshop CS5 crashes every time I try to open a TIFF file, why is this?

Having trouble with character encoding when opening a .csv file either on excel or in numbers!
Hi.
I oftenly use internet banking services which produce .csv reports for the transactions i make. After downloading these reports i try to open them in numbers (and excel) but the encoding for Greek is messed up. Opening the same file with excel on a windows computer everything works fine. Is there something i can do to fix this?Same thing happens to both my Macbook Pro and my iMac.

JohnI suspect that the .csv reports are not in Unicode which is required on Mac's. You would probably have to open the files with something like TextEdit and resave as Unicode to get them to display properly.

Recurring glitch when opening/making new files.
Hi All,
Firstly, I'm using Photoshop CS6 on Windows 8. I'm using a Toshiba Laptop with a GTX 630m. My graphics drivers are up to date.
Usually Photoshop works fine, but, occasionally, when I open another file, or make a new file, the new "tab" that opens up is completely blank. All of the files that I already have open work fine, but the new file is completely glitched out. I've included a screenshot of the error. No amount of zooming/resizing of the window/switching from fullscreen/etc helps. The only fix I have been able to find is to completely restart Photoshop each time this happens.
Anybody else experiencing this? I tried searching for it online, but either I'm the only one with this problem, or others that have been posting about it have been using different words to describe the problem...

Dull images when opening InD CS6 files in CC
When I open an InDesign CS6 document in CC the images appear and export dull. I have relinked the links, but it stays the same. Only after replacing the image one by one does the vibrancy come back. The images are RGB, but when exported they appear CMYK even though it is exported in RGB. I work on a MacBook Pro.
Ask in the ID forum and provide proper system info, exact color profile/ color management details and so on.
